[Q] Exchange ActiveSync Froyo 2.2 - FAIL - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried 3 different 2.2 ROM's and all of them fail to connect to my exchange server which is a must have for me. I have tried built in Exchange ActiveeSync, AOSP mail.apk, calkulin's mail 2.2 apk and nothing works.
Does anyone know of a work around or what the hell I can do to get it working. I have asked this question a couple times in Rom threads and nobody apparently uses exchange activesync other than me.
Side Note:
Exchange 2007 R2
Not using self signed SSL Cert
Also, I know what section this is but when I posted in Q&A nobody responded and seeing how there are more knowledgeable people here I am hoping to get a resolution.
So thank you in advance for any and all insight given to me!

There might be something in your setting for exchange. I am able to connect to my companies exchange server with all the mail apps, I have it working with the Leaked OTA HTC 2.2 with there built in Active Sync. I also have tested with CM 6's nightly and it also syncs.
Now it's funny that in our system we have to setup the login as domain\user_name instead of how the email address is. in our case it's [email protected].
Also we had to use owa.ourdomain.com for the ssl server.
Hope you get it going. As it works great for me.

Mine works also. I am running the Froyo OTA leak. I am on Exchange through Active Sync.
Maybe a re-flash? or check your settings. I use the same settings as I would for the getting into my mail on the web.

My exchange works fine under Avalaunchmod's 2.2 and under FreshEvo 3.0. Like said above, try the domain\username. That's how mine works.

I would check with your IT department.
I have tried just about every recent 2.2 (read: since the "leak") rom and have not had an issue connecting to my exchange on any of them.

Ok thank you for the tips and will try that. I have seen some others having this same issue but haven't found a solid root cause or solution posted anywhere and I have searched for quite a while. I am flashing back over to 2.2 right now and will attempt your suggestions. On every version prior it was never a problem and I simply entered
[email protected]
mail.domain.com
domain.com

mine is
email address - [email protected]
server address - owa.domain.com dont use owa, it is what your owa is called.
domain - domain "no dot com"
username - domain/username or just username
password - password case sensitive
SSL - checked

user name: yourdomain\johndoe
pasword: XXXXXXXXXX
server name is the OWA address. Example, ours is : mail1.engineerpros.com
I have tried the server name with the actual IP address and it does not work. Only worked with the OWA.
Hope this helps

For the user name its a back slash: domain\username

I got it working but thank you so much for all of your suggestions guys!
I got on the exchange server and verified which certificate was default and it was our secondary domain.
Changed server address to: mail.secondomain.com
Domain: left blank
User: domain\name

I may very well be wrong but it may have something to do with BakedSnack because I am having the same issue as you. My Exchange worked fine pre-root and seems to work fine on Fresh but on BakedSnack (9.7 or 1), nada.
It's been driving me nuts because I love the BakedSnack ROM. Interestingly, when I first set up my Exchange on BakedSnack 1 yesterday it worked for the very first sync but I ended up with "unable to connect to server errors thereafter." Over the course of the past few weeks I've flashed and reflashed Baked several times and could get the Exchange account set up but no email.
If you discover a fix, please let me know.
Also, the Exchange Server at my office is 2003. Maybe it has something to do with that.

I have the same problem, so far unsolved

Hotmail via mail app

so ok. I have my new lovely desire. But one problem. I added my new email address to the Mail aip. It works but i can receive email. Instead I just get the message: "This is an old news letter and has expired".
how can i fix this?
Use the following settings
pop 3 address: pop3.live.com
enable SSL
smtp add: smtp.live.com
enable TLS
job done
Bump!
I've run into the same problem. Above posted settings don't work for me, when manually inserting them. Same goes for auto-detected settings after filling in my hotmail address and password.
When I change the app's settings to download the previous X amount of emails instead of past X amount of days, emails do get downloaded. The problem here, however, is that these are the very first emails I received, dating from the year 2000 and marked as "unread". When going through them to mark them as "read" again, new "unread" messages won't get through and the very first emails are kept.
Very strange problem that only affects, as far as I know, a minimal amount of users.
I've tried deleting the account, restarting and even a hard-reset to no avail.
Furthermore, I've contacted microsoft and htc. Microsoft's answer was rubbish, stating I should try the settings they provided in the email, which were the exact same settings I told them I had already used... Still waiting for HTC's response.
PS: Other mail accounts work fine btw.
Anyone experiencing the same problem?
I'm gonna go ahead and try this again. Bump, please help!
Just tried with these settings and it worked for me:
POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes USE TLS
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example [email protected]
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes USE TLS
Important things to note are in red. Hope that helps
Thanks for the reply, but I already had those settings (everyone assumes I got them wrong ). Anyway, I solved it this afternoon after a lot of trial and error...

I did two things to get it to work. Perhaps one would suffice, but I couldnt be bothered to check which one fixed the problem. Here's what I did:
- Somewhere in the settings you can link your hotmail to your live account. I did that.
- I had a huge amount of emails in my inbox. I moved like half of them to a new folder.
Afterwards, the mail app synced without a problem.
Good luck!

Exchange DirectPush/ActiveSync not pushing

We run Exchange 2003 here. Push sync is apparently not working on our T-Mobile HTC Desires. The device makes no attempt to sync unless and until you visit the Mail app. We're due to be upgrading to Exchange 2010 this year but until then I'm wondering if anyone else has similar experiences or ideas for a workaround (other than changing to a 5 minute poll frequency).
Actually this seems to be just one of many things (e.g. buggy IMAP implementation) that's broken with the stock Mail app. Haven't tried a reboot yet but even if that fixes this for our phones, it's hardly a "fix"...
Go to Settings > Accounts & Sync and make sure 'Auto-sync' is checked. I was stumped for the better part of a week before I figured out why my Gmail/exchange push wasn't working - this was the reason.
Have you tried Touchdown to see if that works ok? Whilst it is a paid app, it is better suited to a corporate environment than the standard HTC offering.
Regards,
Dave
@carrige: 'fraid not. Syncing is all set up correctly.
@foxmeister: Yes, TouchDown is on my radar. So far however, none of my users require Task syncing, which as far as I can see is the only particular feature advantage that TouchDown has over the HTC app (assuming the app works). Plus, TouchDown is uglier.
I appear to have found the solution though. It's obscure, so bear with me.
Ever since we started using DirectPush, our Exchange server has been logging errors along the following lines:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Server ActiveSync
Event Category: None
Event ID: 3005
Date: 13/05/2010
Time: 11:32:22
User: OURDOMAIN\joe.bloggs
Computer: OURSERVER
Description:
Unexpected Exchange mailbox Server error: Server: [ourserver.ourdomain.local] User: [[email protected]] HTTP status code: [400]. Verify that the Exchange mailbox Server is working correctly.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Push email and Outlook Web Access always worked fine, so I just filed this under "annoyances". Well, it transpires that the problem is down to a misconfiguration within IIS. From EventID.net:
Removed this error message by removing all host headers from the Default Website in IIS. Go to Properties for the default Website for IIS:
- Click on ''website'' tab.
- Click on ''advanced'' next to IP Address.
- Remove all headers except an entry for ''Default 80'' with no host header value.

Now, this doesn't make sense, since we enforce HTTPS on a custom port. Nevertheless, making this change has simultaneously stopped the annoyance logging, and resolved the push email problem on the HTC mail app.

Exchange Active Sync on HTC Desire stopped pushing
Hi Rob - got a similar problem that only started on Tuesday this week 11th and haven't been able to figure it out. Guess it must be EAS on 2003 on my home server as I haven't lost any other functionality on the phone (eg internet access data connection, SMS etc)
However I don't have the error 400 code on my server admin and trying the fix you suggested didn't work as there were no header to delete.
Any clues? Seems to be a widespread problem...? Thanks.
If you force a sync and look in your application/security logs, can you see the connection being made by the phone?
Fixed it
Rob - thanks for advice. I seem to have fixed the problem by deleting the acount and re-instating it. Not very scientific and doen't help understand whay it broke in the first place, but at least it work now.. Lets see how long it lasts.
BTW called Orange and whilst they were very helpful, they weren't aware of a generic problem.
Also, have now changed the APN setting which were mostly blanks so could have been these (or lack of them( that might have caused the problem.

Interesting that you resorted to removing the account, I had to do the same when my HTC Desire stopped being able to send emails. Receiving was fine, but impossible to send. Deleted account and re-installed, problem resolved.
Only issue now, which is what I was searching for when I came across this thread, is that occassionally I get emails that simply will never arrive on the handset. At home I mix between WIFI and GSM connection, and push appears to work perfectly. Today I discovered that 3 or 4 internal corporate emails of 20 or more received during my manual sync off-peak period, just will not come down to the phone. They are on the server, on my laptop, but not on the phone. Touchdown, running in paralll to Android mail client, has them perfectly.
Any ideas anyone?
For me unfortunately the conclusion is absolutely inescapable. In a corporate environment, the niggles with the stock HTC mail app are unacceptable.
But the good news is that Touchdown is only $20, which really isn't that much to pay if you take into account the overall cost of whatever package your users are on. After a short trial of Touchdown, I'm going to start deploying it to my user base shortly.
Shame on HTC for releasing the phone to market with so many bugs. But I suppose that's what we get for being early adopters...

[A] Exchange Settings CM7

Well, took me a while to figure out how to setup exchange for the Cyanogen Mod 7 (CM7) nightlies. I figured this could help some others having trouble. It asks for email address and password. I would enter this. It would fail. Then I realized it actually wants this:
[Domain]\[UserName]@[exchangeserveraddress]
So my email address might be: [email protected]
But I know my exchange server is "exchange.mail.com"
and I know my domain is "Staff"
So I don't enter [email protected] as my email address. I instead enter:
Staff\[email protected] as my email address.
Note: At my work, exchange is setup with all kinds of security and none of the auto discover junk that helps with setup. So these settings may help other people with 'difficult' exchange servers. For others, this may be completely unnecessary.
Weird. I didn't have any problems at all when I went to Settings>Accounts>Add>Corporate. Just punched in my email, pass, then on the next screen the username (Domain\user), FQDN of the public-facing exchange portal, and enabled "use all SSL certs" because my admin is a cheap crackhead who refuses to get a real cert.
Worked first time, too.
Thanks Joe.

Yes, there are all sorts of variables with exchange depending on security settings, auto-discovery settings, and the version of exchange server. What works on one server, does not work on another.
At my work, exchange is very secure with none of the auto discover junk that helps with setup. So these settings may help other people with 'difficult' exchange servers. For others, this may be completely unnecessary.
I just tried cm7 nightly. No problem getting exchange set up BUT my server requires that the password lock be setup on the phone and I kept getting a message that phone did not allow the required security. This is not an issue on the evio2 Rom I've been using.
Anyone else run into this on cm7?

That's because your other ROM doesn't have a fully compatible Email.apk which supports all the ActiveSync admin permissions. Just setup a phone lock which meets the minimum complexity (usually a 4-8 digit PIN will suffice), and accept the Admin rights via the notification you get.

My other ROM does support the ActiveSync permissions, which is why I'm able to successfully setup the password and sync with the Exchange server. This is NOT the case with CM 7.

Exchange
Hey all, I found this thread while looking for a solution as to why I cannot setup my exchange account. I'm using CM7 but I have a moto cliq xt (I know this is the EVO threads).
I'm not sure from reading this thread, but are you all successfully connecting and syncing to exchange servers with CM7?
I know my credentials are correct (they worked on other roms and on stock) but I'm not sure what the problem is now.
My username is different than my email address on the exchange server, so Joe's suggestion wouldn't help me. I have a logcat from my push to the server if someone might be able to point out the problem from there.
I apologize for posting this in your thread, but I'm out of options and can't get an answer or solution from my home thread.
*Note - another user from my thread was able to, but his username matched his email, and he did it like Joe suggested. Also, I can connect using Touchdown and the same credentials (but I don't want to use Touchdown as I would like the native Email app to handle this.)
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
No go for me... Stupid Exchange 2007 and your damn security policies! Why on earth do you work with the stock sense email.apk and not AOSP!

I know this thread hasn't been touched in a while, but I don't see a good solution for my particular Exchange setup. I run into the "This server requires security features that your phone does not support." issue and I was wondering something. If I have the Mail app from stock backed up in Titanium Backup, can I restore that app and use it? If so, would I need to uninstall the Email app that comes with CM7?
Since I really really miss my calendar/contacts sync from before, I may not wait for an answer and just hope that my nandroid backup in ROM Manager is a good safety net and go for it. I'll post my results if I do.

So I didn't wait, and I went ahead and mucked with it, but I got way less than stellar results. I was able to uninstall "Email.apk" using Titanium Backup, but when I tried to restore my "Mail.apk" from the same, it just sat there and never completed. I assume that the installation actually failed behind the covers due to some requisite not being in place and that TB was not able to interpret the error as a failed restore.
The search for an answer continues...

Virtuous ICS RC3 email wont work

hey cant seem to get the email service working on all ICS roms including the Virtuous RC3 one, it just says username or password invalid. How is this possible?
cheers
Some more information please!
Which email provider do you have?
Have you try to set up the email account not automatically?
Maybe the informations that your phone get are wrong and you must set up the account on your own!
I have RC3 and my mail works fine! Googlemail and an other provider
Hi, I'm trying to use the email client with microsoft outlook exchange, Gmail works fine. I input my email address and password and click exchange and it just says details are incorrect. I dont understand why, because this has always worked before.

Mmmh okay it's seem to be that exchange makes troble!
Some people reported already the problem:
[URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21611103&postcount=1510[/URL]
So that means you have to wait till a update is relased or you change the configuration on the exchange.
But i have no experience with exchange server =( I can't help you with this!

[Q] Exchange e-mail failure - Optimus G

Hi all,
I have an Optimus G and all is going well except for exchange integration. I configured the System Settings->Accounts & Sync as follows:
[email protected]
password
domain\username
mail.server.com
domain
Use SSL -> checked
I get past the next two screens and see a TOAST popup that says: "Server is not available. Please try again later."
The same settings worked on my Samsung Captivate running Cyanogenmod 7 and beyond over the last two years, right up to a nightly from a week ago. AFAICT, this issue is isolated to my LG phone and LG's implementation of Exchange accounts.
I tried other apps like Divide, MailDroid, etc., and they all work - but I want my work calendar via Business Calendar or the stock Calendar app, and I cannot find a way to get an Exchange account to work on the phone natively.
I've spent hours on Google and testing apps, all with no luck. It's the curse of buying a brand new phone, I suppose.
Any ideas?
Check your exchange email for devices.. if you flash a lot, each time you set up the email it will count your device as 1..I know the email won't accept more than 10 devices

Good thought - but the list only has a few attempts from various apps I've tried, and I've been clearing it regularly. The only attempt that apparently NEVER showed up in the list is when I tried to use the included Exchange account setup (the one that keeps failing). It's like it gets right to the last step and then gets rejected.
I recently moved from a Desire Z to the Optimus G. On Gingerbread or any ICS Roms on the Desire Z, simply putting mail.domainname.com worked for me. However, I had the same problem you are using when attempting to add my school's exchange server to the phone. I worked around it by using exchange.domainname.com instead of mail.domainname.com. I recommend that you try doing this.
Once I input that as the server name (username was [email protected] and so was email address), everything worked.
Hope it helps!

YOU WIN! While the server name was already correct, your note inspired me to replace "domain\username", which apparently works on all other phones in the company, with "[email protected]". That worked!
Hooray! Now I have work e-mail and calendar on my personal phone...hey, wait a minute... :silly:
I am having the same problem "Server not available. Please try again later".
So am I correct in saying that instead of username, I should put [email protected]?
For example, if my username is worldjunction and my domain is batman then for the Username field I shoud put [email protected]?
And for the Domain field should I put batman.com?
Your advice is greatly, greatly appreciated. I'm getting desparate here.
Using [email protected] doesn't work me. Anyone else have this problem?

I am having the same problem where it is saying "wrong address or password." The password is correct (because i can set this up with my other andriod devices) but there must be something going on with the username or server address
For example:
email address: [email protected]
password: password
username: sample & company/sample & [email protected] have all been tried
server address: mail.company.com & exchange.company.com have been tried
domain: company
Anyone figure this out yet?? your help is much appreciated
thought i was the only one with this issue.

EDIT/ Not sure if this is helpful or not but for some reason MailDroid works but K9 doesn't.

I'm having the same problem with my LGOG phone. like many i ahve tried all possible combinations and it doesn't seem to work.
like wise, maildroid was such a breeze to set up and K9, like the stock email app doesn't work. k9 didn't work for me in my older phone either after one of their update.
Same problem here
I seem to have the same issue as everyone else. Exchange email works just fine on my iPhone, and everyone else's Android devices (Galaxy S3, Nexus S, etc...). I use the exact same settings and the stock app on my LGOG will not connect. I installed a third-party email app and it worked, but it's ugly, and I want all my email accounts in the same place - as well as calendar and contacts integration.
I've tried all the suggestions - various combinations of usernames, server names and domains, and nothing is working. It appears something is horribly wrong with the LG email app.
Is there any way to install the email app from the Nexus 4?

Try This
Guys,
I just got it working after struggling with it for a while. Try this:
emailaddress: [email protected]
password: password
username: username ONLY (no @domain or anything else)
server: mail.domain.com
domain: domain ONLY (no .com or anything else)
Best of luck! Let me know if it works for you.
well done

server not avalible error
Hi All,
Ive also got same problem "server not avalible error", tried all combinations as per above , still no fix for me
Im on 4.1.2 and like the others ive not recived any updates to fix this error.. For those that updated ...Do you have to update via the LG software on the PC or check for updates via the phone its self...
Phone has been rooted, dont know if that makes any difference?.. yes i can get it to work with 3rd party software , but want to use the inbulit mail if i can.
Regards
Joe
I tried to update via LG software and the PC and it said no software update...
