I have a new htc evo 4g and i bought my phone on the 31st from at best buy. His dumbass installed the new 2.2 update with the new baseband and now my phones flash player isnt working. My friend has a unrooted evo with the 10.1 flash player on his phone and it works fine. So i want to downgrade my baseband and rom to the ota that was released before sprint released the 2.2 update so i can root. Can anyone help me ? Thanks in advance !

First, wrong section. You may want to have a mod switch it before all those angry people come in here with torches and pitchforks Anyways, currently there is no way to downgrade. Until a root exploit is found in 2.2, there won't be. That said, you should be able to get Flash player runnning by factory resetting the phone. A lot of people had some issues with flash originally, but factory resetting seems to help a lot.
Weird that someone would flash 2.2 for you, since its not actually official yet, you may want to go back to the store and talk to a manager about inappropriate conduct. That's not an official update and they never should have done it, even with your permission.

Hey I was just wondering if there was a way to download a multi gig file such as a movie on the HTC Evo. I have been able to download a couple avi movies on the evo, but when I tried to do it with a 8.75 gig movie it wouldn't download it. I was hoping a dev could take a look and see why. I wad on WiFi when trying to download so I ruled out the possibility the network rejected it. Could someone help me ? Thanks in advance.

Is this a different evo than the one you were using on 7/25? Lol.
Nice try blaming it on best buy.

Yes of course we need this option and when the official is released by Sprint then the delv will start
Sent from my EVO using XDA App
No this is not the same evo i had on 7/25. My girlfriend dropped my last one in the bathtub. I wasnt to happy to say the least. I had to wait about two weeks to get a new one. I have not tried to reset it but i will. My phone had the update notification when we first activated the phone. Thats how i got 2.2 before most people did. So i am not ragging on best buy.
I'm gonna call BS on this 1, I seriously doubt that a Bestbuy employee found the leaked OS and downloaded it and renamed it update.zip and then hooked your phone to a computer and went through all that BS to update your phone to a unofficial OS
BTW I'm sure the devs are not gonna feel sorry for your lame BS story and start working on a fix, I my self installed the leak just like you did and am gonna have to wait for HTC to bail us out
Why would the updatebe available when it wasn't even released yet?
Sent from my EVO running Fresh
Hang on, guys. Wasn't the FIRST OTA released last week on the 29th? The "unofficial" one? It wasn't sending notifications, but some users were able to manually apply it by going to Software Update and checking for it. Heck, there were dozens of posts from users here that got it right out of the gates. Poor souls.

So I just bought Evo's for both me and the wife. I watched the sales girl take them both out of the box and she did NOT do any updates to either of them, but I seem to have the famed OTA upgrade done on both... I was wondering, on Cyanogen's forum, someone posted the official RUU for sprints 2.2. Could I drop this onto my phone and run it to downgrade so that I can root?
No it won't work unless you have rooted the phones before and the hboot OS set to S-off your stuck waiting for them to crack the OTA like so many of the rest of us. Sorry

OKay for weeks now i have been searching ways to Root my HTC EVO I have been looking and looking maybe i am confused so now i see great methods to root the files are no good such as ginger breaks and other ways such you tube videos but unable to find a video who do play by play how to do a easy successful root method now i am currently S-on my Hboot is 2.15 and build number is 4.24 now i know unrevoked is not working since the update make a long story short if anybody has some of a method please reply in a nice way and don't bash me because i may not know this phone stuffed by i am geek in computers so we all have good things what we do best.
Put simply, 2.3 hasn't been rooted yet, they're making progress but you're out of luck for the moment.
Still no method yet, waiting impatiently, check the forums multiple time daily. I'm sure there will be an announcement when it available, so just keep your eyes peeled. Just rooted my wifes evo because she never accepted the OTA, now I'm drooling in jealousy.

Well I have my HTC evo 4g fully rooted with unrevoked. What I did is I broke my phone and I'm under the black tie program with sprint. I called asurion to get my NEW AND UNUSED PHONE. They asked if I would rather it come fully activated. Or would I rather activate it myself. I told them I'd rather activate it myself. I paid the 100 dollar deposit and while Isaac activating my phone I stopped the firmware and software update. It only comes on the phone as an ota if you activate yourself. If they activation it you will be stuck where you are. After stopping the firmware update I was sitting at stock android 2.2 aka froyobwith hboot 2.10. If you're willing to spend 100 bucks to do this, it will come a lot faster than the HTC bootloader update or the developers hacking methods. No offense to the development team. You Guy do an amazing job. But yea, that's the way I did it. Then I rooted with unrevoked and am currently running cm7 and am extremely happy with improved battery life along many other things. Maybe this will help you

I agree with this. NEVER EVER EVER EVER LET SPRINT activate a phone. DON'T EVEN LET THOSE ASSHOLES TOUCH IT! Biggest mistake you can EVER EVER make! spread this around. :-D However!, I find it hard to believe on the "I called asurion to get my NEW AND UNUSED PHONE."
It might not be unused but it definitely came in mint condition with the froyo firmware on it so that's all I needed lol as of right now if you're willing to spend the 100 bucks its well worth it in my opinion. Good luck getting root guys ill see if I can't find a way to help the devs and the others working in the collaboration in the development section.

That is not necessarily true. My evo was destroyed in a car accident. Asurion sent me my replacement. I was hoping it would be 2.2 and denied their request to activate my phone. When the new phone arrived, it had already been loaded with 2.3.3. I didn’t even bother to activate it and ended up going back to my rooted hero for the time being. Getting a replacement phone is a crapshoot. There are multiple posts on XDA giving anecdotal reports of replacement phones. Most are shipping with gingerbread. Some still will have froyo. Some (very few) will come with S-off. Don’t assume that by breaking your phone and dropping $100 you will automatically be shipped a phone capable of being unlocked at present time.

It really depends on if the phone was made before the ota release date and whatnot. You cn request that it come with 2.2 instead of gb. This method may not work for everyone but I know that it has worked for the friends I have around my area. They saw what happened and wanted to try it and its worked for them. If you feel that its a longshot at getting the right phone
Then by all means stick with what you've got. I just was willing to try anything to get rid of gb. But now I'm running cm7 with a tiamat kernel and am very happy. Little side note: I actually didn't break my phone on purpose.

I see your method and point so I am in KCMO AKA Kansas City MO doing some research online and from Best Buy they have an HTC EVO for 99.99 in white Android 2.2 and even called them to confirmed but doing some thinking and playing around on the Android Market SPB 3D its Awesome since I cant root my phone but I pay the 14.95 that way my phone is not harm and I have my warranty still but i am sticking with SPB 3D
They just came out with the revolutionary root for gingerbread. Look in the android dev section and you'll find it. It works too. I rooted a friends phone using that method and he had absolutely no issues with his phone. Even though my usb cord had a short in it there was no problem with it that made it brick even though it disconnected multiple times. Id have to say that it is a very safe root method. So check it out if you're still interested in root

I recently got a new evo due to a replacement and like many other folks I'm stuck unrooted with 2.3.3. It came with the 4.22 update instead of the 4.24 update. So should I stay with 4.22 or upgrade to 4.24?

if it is best buy. do your best to get a new one. lol.
but anyway.... I personally wouldn't upgrade UNLESS you use the compass and other reasons why they came out with the patch. lol. but then again, no one is working on trying to root 22. they are only working on 24..
I personally would have made my own OTA update for 24 that would have included root on it. :-D because you know you can actually do that. :-D

How do you know this? I only ask because I'm on 22 and not upgrading because I don't know which version will eventually be rooted. However, if I can upgrade to 24 and the phantom VM issue goes away, I might be able to convince my dad to trade evo's with me....because he's on froyo...

I don't have any inside info on this but logically working on 24 makes more sense. People on 22 can get to 24 for a root but some one on 24 can't get to 22. So it will help every one for them to find a root for 24 and just some for 22.
My buddy has the dinc and it is stock and he does not want it rooted at all but when i connect it to wifi it won't find the OTA is just keeps saying he's up to date and its on 2.2 anyone have any ideas?
They roll out these updates in batches. More than likely your buddy just isn't in any of the groups that have rolled out so far. Verizon does this so their servers aren't always clogged with people trying to download.
My girlfriend is in the same boat. Just be patient.

I don't know if VZW does this but my brother is on T-Mobile. He went to the store and they updated his phone there by plugging it in and updating it. Might want to ask them.

I called Verizon last weekend because my wife's stock non rooted dinc hadn't received the update - they talked to an engineer who said they were still going out, and that they didn't have a timeline for completion. That was 8 days ago and we are still waiting. The good that's come of this is that I'm actually considering getting s-off on her phone just so when we sell them next April hers will be worth more.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
Does anyone else get the sense that Verizon has stopped updates in the last few days? I'm probably wrong, but it doesn't seem like there have been any word on the update still going out. I wonder if it was halted because of some of the issues that were found (such as wrong screen size and the Sprint error).
I wouldn't be surprised if we saw another OTA (version 4 perhaps) rolled out in another month or so to correct those issues -- and maybe then the update will reach everyone.

Hey guys and girls just joined the site been looking around and reading alot of interesting things.
Like the title says im running 4.1.2 but i hear there might be a release of 4.2 coming the 20th?
I'm wanting to root my phone and join the club. I'm pretty much a newb when it come to this I want to make sure i do everything right when i start the process i'm a truck driver so my phone is a important part of my day to day activity and cant end up bricking my phone.
Ive been looking at youtube vids and reading comments some people having problems and some doing just fine.
Could someone recommend a link one with a video to show the process that would be great, should i wait for a over the air update to 4.2
Sprint won't be going to 4.2 . They are bypassing and the upcoming update will be 4.3. I would wate until the update comes out before you root. That way the roms and rooters will be able to be written and hou can have all the perks of an official 4.3
Sent from my Sprint Galaxy Note II on Tapatalk Pro.
I disagree. I would root now. It's possible with any OTA update, it could secure the root exploit. And nothing has been really said when any update is coming. Could be a couple weeks or a couple months.
And if you're rooted already, you'll only need to wait a day or two before someone uploads a rooted version of the update to flash.
Plus, if you fubar something, it's likely already been done and you'll be able to find a fix.
And if you do depend on your phone, it's hard to say what things may get borked with the update. So by waiting those few days for the updated rom, you'll find out what is not working and can decide if updating is right for you. Sometimes updates will bork things like GPS.
Personally, I don't see anything you really gain by waiting.

Ditto on rooting before an update. Get root before the Knox **** hits your phone and your warranty is permanently b0rked. Once 4.3 and Knox is on your phone, if you ever root there's chance in hell of ever claiming on your warranty. More likely than not.

What happened with the link being removed for the toolkit download? I watched the video on post #4 seems to be easiest way to do this.

Is this still a good option for rooting the phone?
Any ideas?
Just got my 4.1.2 note today. Within an hour after bringing it home I found the old toolkit I rooted with my other note before I traded it. Why wait
