I used the 2gb sd card come with the HTC Desire to make the gold card. Follow all the procedure properly, just that, after using HxD to change the hex value and save, take out the card, put in again, windows require to format it (means card cannot be used). Try many times, still the same.
Some body says that we can create gold card using the sd card come with Desire.
Is there any work around (using other hex editor to change, or different procedure to do) ? I dare not buy another card since I will not know whether it works or not, no point buying a lot of card just to find the one that can be goldcard, am I right?
So really need your help to fix this, bro.
Only some cards work. U need to try another card.
I had an old 256mb card that worked.... them were the days huh!

Hi will a 1gb sd card work as a gold card?
If it does because i dont have a sd card reader can i make the gold card from mounting it from my phone to the computer ?
Hi, any size card will do. All the gold card does is overwrite one sector on the card. as long as the card is FAT 32 then you should be fine with just the phone. However some cards are 'touchy' i have had no problems with a samsung or a sandisk card. worth a try!
I used this method and the tool mentioned - makes it a very easy job!!

If you want to root then follow this tutorial on XDA or this tutorial on MoDaCo, you don't need the generic rom.
Go to post 3 on XDA or the first 1 on MoDaCo and just download the correct version for your bootloader and follow the instructions, to check your version, turn your phone off, and when you turn it back on, hold the back button when clicking power, your bootloader version is on the second line, it will say HBOOT-0.75.xxxx or HBOOT-0.80.xxxx
Hope this helps
hi all,
I got a HTC Desire HD from vodafone with hboot 0.85.0018 and rom version 1.75.
I want to debrand this so i made a goldcard (tried with MMC1 and MMC2 as described everywhere). i used modaco's goldcard tool and when i loaded the goldcard img and pressed 'patch MMC' it says succesfully created goldcard.
So i putted the debranded zip on the sdcard. it loads the zip but then gives the error 'main version is older blablab'.
i think this is related to the goldcard right?
I made a goldcard like 5 times again and with another micro sd card but it all didnt work.
so now i cant debrand my desire HD
Please if someone can help me!!
thanks in advance!
Nick
and this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 doesnt work for you?
So I think Vodafone 1.75 is Android 2.2.1. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
On top of the gold card you will also have to follow the procedure for downgrade to 1.32 (Android 2.2). Otherwise you won't be able to flash an older rom version over the existing software.
There is a guide to the downgrade procedure stickied in the development section.
Someone swyped my idea.

and yes its android 2.2.1
Are you using a low capacity sd card? Gold card won't work on sdhc, only sd. Use a 1 or 2 gb card.
Only other thing I could suggest is using a hex editor to insert the code manually, just to eliminate all possible errors.

yep i used to micro SD cards from 2gb.. and i insrted it manually too lol
Well im gonna try MMC1 on my 1 sd card and MMC2 on my other sd card in minutes and check if it works then .
So i just format as fat32 then make goldcard with MMC2.
Then put the zip on the SD card and insert it in my phone.
Then follow the downgrade process and check if it installs the zip right?
IT WORKS! it starts the update
basically i took my stanadrd desires sd card and created a gold card for my desire hd. now that my desire hd is done, can i reuse my gold card as my standard desires sd card?
Yes, but you'll need to reformat the sd card.

will my card still b able to be used as a gold card incase i need to ruu flash in the future?
You'll have to go through the whole process again to make it into a goldcard if you wish to use it as a standard SD card unfortunately.

Buy yourself a cheap 1GB or 512mb sdcard off eBay for the goldcard purpose and then have it locked away somewhere
So, if I have a gold card, and i want to use it as normal SD card, i need to format it via computer ? And everything will be as default ?
just got the DESIRE HD yesterday and ive been trying to goldcard it all day, im not a complete noob (ive had the X10, HTC dual, htc snap, htc hero), but im having a noob moment....
Its something im doing wrong when im goldcarding.......
*i use gold card finder to get the reversed mmc2 then i get the .img from the site
*i start up the hex editor in Win7 (64bit with admin perm) pull up both the flash disk and image.
*i have modified the flash disk in a card reader AND via the phone
*ive copied th .img file and replaced the lines from 000 to 0170 and saved .
*BUT every time the card becomes unusable, EVERY TIME.
*i have 2x 8gb stock cards and an 16gb sandisk card,
*each 1 of them does not work.
GRRRRRRRRR
my phone is unbranded purchsed in NZ, with no branding but i get the CID error so i have to goldcard
ANY HELP would be soooooo rad
Did you select your SD as physical disk? Did you do a full format to your card (FAT32) before starting the process? Try those..
ill give that a try thanks

Hi there,
I hope someone can give me a little advice on this matter as I can't find the answers I'm looking for so far.
I have basically flashed my first rom on my dhd using ace hack kit to root and s-off my device and make a goldcard as it was locked to t-mobile. Everything has worked fine and I flashed runnydroid no problem at all. Becuse It was my first time flashing I used a new 8gb sd card so I could start fresh. I have filled this sd card up really quickly and would like to swap it for my 16gb card I am wondering if this will cause issues with the gold card and other files.
If I clean my new card can I just transfer all files over from the current sd card can I just carry on or will the card need to be partitioned and so on? Can someone just give me a heads up on what I need to do?
Thanks in advance

You should be fine with the goldcard thing! If not just redo the process. HOWEVER! When you move the files from the old SD card to the new one remember to take ALL the files. Including hidden ones. Very important!

You can format your SD card after doing the rooting. You can make gold card any time. If you still sceptical about this keep all the files somewhere safe. Specially the file start with "part7" which contains important information regarding partition when stock ROM was installed. This is most important file, rest you can delete IMO. SD card doesn't need any partition, just format it with FAT32.
Be gracious, hit "Thanks" if my post helped you.
