Hi,
I have major problems now with 2.2 after update. It was said to be quicker, much quicker.
In fact - my Desire is now slower as HTC Sense is reloading almost every time I come back from Gmail, Camera or other applications. This is so awful! Do you have same issues?
Also - I found that I cannot move all of my apps to SD card. Why? Can I force it?
So far was able to move to SD only 4 or 5 apps...
As for the slowness, sorry but I can't help, here it's the opposite.
About the apps move to SD, the coder has to update the app to be compatible with Froyo and the move to the SD card. Not all have been so far.
Maybe there were a few issues that HTC overlooked and if so, then they will probably bring out a fix for it.
Hi Guys, my update did not go too well and the phone keeps rebooting and I do not get any radio. Any thoughts. Anyone knows where I can get the 2.2 RUU to do a manual install? Thanks
My market application is broken....so i can't install any apps, and i can't browse my sd card for appcs, because a browser app is missing...ahhhhh
I don't have any issues after the upgrade. 2.2 is working just fine! Everything is much faster than before!
EDIT:
Except that Sygic don't wanna start

Android 2.2 Update: Major & Minor problems
Hi.
I'm in the UK and I got the OTA update this afternoon.
The update was over and done in less than 15 minutes.
Since then I had to uninstall & reinstall one app to make it work (WallSwitch) - the minor issue, and my Desire won'tconnect to my home wifi (MAJOR ISSUE!)
Can't talk about the quality of the update yet I've spent all my time trying to get my wifi to connect.
oh almost forgot...it looks as if the previous separate Voice Search is now fully integrated but it leaves the previously distinct Voice Search app installed. I haven't worked out if I can remove it yet.
Update 3rd August: Finally found a workaround for my wifi connection problem: Switched to a using a static ip address. Not ideal but good enough. btw I'm using a Belkin N1 Router with the latest firmware (Belkin haven't updated that in over 7 years and I doubt they ever will!!)
Found several folks with similar wifi connection issues.
Having fixed the wifi issue, I have noticed that my phone seems quicker and more responsive could be the "Update Placebo" effect but I hope not
Update: 30th August: since the Froyo update I'm also having problems connecting to GPS and 3G. I guess I'll have to wait for another minor update.
I dont have same issues as you, but my homescreen is sometimes reseting on its own.. it happens rarly but still, i want a perfect system...
Here all is perfect....froyo to win!!!

After updating my phone replaces the selected recipient of an SMS or MMS with a different random identity. The best part is I've no idea if it's happening or not until the text is sent.
Hey,
Check out this post:

I had the same problem with the froyo update on my Desire. Step #1 puts it back to how it was (SO REMEMBER TO BACK UP OR USE DIFFERENT SD CARD THAN YOUR USUAL), then you can have a second chance to redo your update.
I just wrote an SMS and froyo didn't recognise the standard dutch library which it came with, I find this quite annoying.
edit: problem fixed by adding the dutch language to keyboard language option.
Update: 30th August: As well as ongoing WIFI problems, since the Froyo update I'm also having problems connecting to GPS and 3G. I guess I'll have to wait for another minor update to fix them.

The update seems rushed (BIG SIGH HERE). Too many minor issues, but they keep on piling up. HTC's Éclair was near-perfect.

I've downgraded my radio and gone back to PAYS 2.1
Too many probs with Froyo at the moment from wrong locale, market not working, laggy scrolling, gps and location not working, flaky wifi, etc
I appreciate what the modders are doing but froyo is not ready for daily use yet.

Working with Froyo since last week.
It's almost perfect. Radio is working correctly and functionality has been tried in deep. I've just found that orientation sensor is not precise as in 2.1. And I'm using: DJ Droid, A2SD+, Odexed. No problem with nandroid backups, nor with pc connection, nor with radio.

Well I've no idea whats going on , I went back to last nights back up reflashed the radio and its been fine. However I am not convinced.
My phone was locked to tmobile I got an unlock code of ebay for £8 killer , cant be locked now so I am happy with that.
I am going to try the other froyo release's I think it maybe something to do with Orange - the coverage is poor at work and maybe froyo isnt reattaching to the network once it loses coverage (i worked in the industry)
One thing baffles me , where and why do my widegts detach and disappear when I mount the phone as an memory stick for videos?

Im reading about a fair few people who can't upgrade their unbranded handsets today.
Ive also heared a few noises that the update may have been suspended !
Yesterday was fine, I posted a walkthrough and link to a useful guide for debranding over on the android forum and most people were reporting back with success however today, two or three have mentioned that after debranding and installing a generic Rom they are getting the 'no update available, your handset is up to date' message when checking for the 2.2 update
Combine that with the thread on here about no update for unbranded T-Mobile and im beginning to wonder if somethings going on.
Most unbranded handsets will have most likely been updated by now so it will be interested to see if any more people who haven't yet done so are still offered the update.
don't know, but maybe they want to fix the issues before they roll out to more users.
Issues I have: GPS and WIFI don't work anymore. Pretty major, so I hope they push out a fix fast!
Today I should guide a friend to the OTA update. But she got same issue says device is up to date.
And she is unbranded no root stock 2.1 ROM. so sure something is going on in the HTC lab.
Exactly the same here - debranded a Vodafone UK Desire today and no update available :'(
Although if GPS + WiFi don't work for some people this is a pretty unstable release

No problem for me! Sorry for you.
It's wierd , I have an unbranded Desire with a Virgin sim in it. when I tried the check for software via mobile internet, nothing, said I was up to date, when I tried it via wifi, it updated seamlessly... No issues with wifi or GPS so far either. Best of luck to you though..
Yeah I had the option to upgrade yesterday and now it's gone, so +1 for the silently pulled theory.
I'm confused is the 2.2 update rolling out at the moment in the UK? I cant seem to get it on orange?
the funny thing is, wifi worked directly after the update (Sunday) but stopped working yesterday.
I tested GPS since I read other people had trouble with it, and indeed, no location fix for me.
I sent a mail to HTC support, hope they fix it soon.
they may have stopped it, but today isn't the first day I've tried it...
it didn't work on Saturday, Sunday, Monday or Tuesday either...
Pauly (op t-mobile thread)
someone over in t-mobile thread says you can't force the update through the check for updates button anyway, you need to wait for a service message?
Perhaps they are only sending the message out intermittently and I've been unlucky enough to be out of signal each time?

if it is unbranded, try occasionally. it worked for me.
Maybe they did pull it. It updated last night by checking manually on my de-branded T-Mobile desire. I've had nothing but problems with froyo. Switching home screens seems laggier, as does the browser. Also, my biggest problem is the battery life seems to have gone terrible for me. I unplugged at 8:30am, its now 6pm, and I'm on 50% and I haven't used it at all as I've been in work. With 2.1 I'd have 80+% left.

I manually checked for upgrades on my unrooted and unbranded Desire on Sunday and it suggested Froyo. I hesitated to update cause I wanted to be able to root at a later time, and cancelled. When I manually checked for upgrades today, it claimed there weren't any. To me that also suggests that they pulled it.

I think if you cancel an update Desire will no longer ask for it. (I think I read about a similar case in a Bulgarian forum which happened on the day of the update)
Hello All.
I know this has been covered a little before through the search but im still after some advice.
I "upgraded" from my n85 to the HTC desire last week. I imediatly got the 2.2 update on there OTA and all was well and good. However i appear to be having issues with regards to getting a gps fix.
A-GPS apears to work fine and i can get a position on googlemaps within a a min. All well and good if it actually showed my proper location. So im sat there waiting for a gps fix. I.e. last night i was sat there for 10 mins on the moors in the car, frweezing my knackers off, and still nothing!
Sooo
if i reboot the phone i can get a gps fix within a min or so. But i have to do this if i want to use the gps which seems a bit rubbish to be frank and ive got the iphone boys laughing at me because theres fixes straight away.
So what am i doing wrong? how can i get a good fix from the off? Its spoiling anotherwise good phone.
I have this problem in Google Navigation also. As you say, after rebooting the phone it finds a fix pretty much straight away.
This is my biggest annoyance with the phone right now and I hope they fix it soon. Prior to 2.2 I didn't have this problem at all so I am sure it is a software problem.
Hmm i'm afraid there is nothing really to fix. My Desire gets a GPS-Fix out of any situation straight away within 3-5 seconds (outdoors of course)...
Maybe a different radio would sort out this problem? I`ve heard talk of different radios being better for some and not for others, Trial and error I supose.
O and my GPS fix seems rather slow too.
I also have significant delays in getting a GPS fix. I do not recall if it was the same behavior before I did the HTC OTA FroYo update.
I also notice that I never get very good "signal strength" (as measured with the app GPS Test) from any of the satellites, even when I DO have a fix.
Hello.
I recently bought a secondhand HTC Desire and I am having the same issue.
It has stock 2.2 on it and it can not get any GPS fix whatsover.
I have tried rebooting, taking sd card out and back in, taking sim card out and back in, etc. without any luck.
I have tried apps such as GPS Status, GPS essentials and GPS Test and they all either are stuck at searching for ever or show 0 visable and 0 used satellites.
How can I fix this issue? It is rather important. If I install one of the various custom 2.3 ROMs will it fix the issue?
There isn't Desire with vanilla Android. If it has stock FroYo, then it's custom ROM.

Sorry, my mistake.
I meant it has the official 2.2 Froyo with HTC Sense as far I can tell. The previous owner must have upgraded it to that.
Anyway, is there any way to get my GPS working?
Try to root, s-off then update the radio to the latest. Search the forums for info on how to do that. It's rather easy if you're a little versed with computers.

Done. Still doesn't work.
That's weird. It may be a hardware issue, then. Get GPS Status from the Market, install it and see what's going on under the hood. Does the phone "see" the satellites but can't get a fix or does it not "see" any satellites at all?
its not difficult understand if there is an hardware fault or not
run the latest froyo ruu, go out of ur house, enable internet connection, enable gps, open gmaps...after few seconds u should get ur exactly position with a possible error of 1/2 meters
if even after some minutes, and even in different locations/city, it doesn't show ur correct position, call htc and sent it to service with warranty.
solved
0 satellites seen and 0 satellite fixes.
According to the previous owner it didn't have the GPS problem before the 2.2 ota update, which would make me think it is software related.
Never trust the seller. Of course he/she will not admit that the product they've sold you has/has had issues. I would return it, to be honest.
I just can't find the latest firmware neither in support site not via Firmware update section in Settings.
Just a thought, maybe HTC cooking something.

Well maybe its for the better. Only thing that i got from this OTA are problems.. Battery temp is higher then before, and there is problem with installing apps from market( maybe its not related but it started to happen after upgrade)
No root
Hi, the same with my Desire... I got the update offered once, I canceled that and from that time never offered.
I assume I should wait if I don't want to root right?
It seems that HTC removed the update. It isn´t even listed on their website anymore.
It might have a reason that they did so, but i didn´t find any information about it yet.
(I too got the update available-message which i also cancelled. 2 days later (3 days ago) i tried a manual search and i found nothing, even with friends phone on stock rom)).
C'mon guys, the update was obviously pulled for a reason. Do you really think HTC is denying it to your for s**ts and giggles? There's obviously something wrong with it and you don't want it on your phone.
Whenever I tried to do an OTA update it would download and then tell me the update is corrupted and couldn't be installed. I was running a stock euro ROM at the time.
In the end I gave up and installed a generic WWE ROM which included the latest update. Everything works just fine for me. The battery life seems much improved although I don't notice this as much as others may as coincidentally I've started leaving Bluetooth on for use with my car kit.

Agree... this update was great... it solved at least 4 problems to me:
1. the drop to 90% when removed from the charger
2. bluetooth connection to my headset greatly improved
3. when opening the first SMS on top of the message list it sometimes was opening the last one, not really a big problem but annoying
4. when writing long sms it sometimes would start an endless of conversion of "sms-to-mms" and "mms-to-sms" over and over again...
and so far have not seen any drawback.

I am also getting a lot of process failures..
So updating
EDIT: Damn, having problems -> here.
On screen keyboards look different I *think* - slightly bigger keys - (I was just messing on an iPod so may be mistaken!)...not noticed anything else.
I managed to snag this update via OTA. I'm on 2.2, unbranded, un-rooted. All is as HTC/Google intended.
Since installing this update I've noticed slightly better battery consumption, but I'm having a few FC issues. Downloading from the Market, browsing pictures, sending an SMS, using Twitter for Android will all drop an FC on me every one in fifteen times I'd estimate. This is up from never prior to the update.
I can only guess this is an issue related to this update as I never had this problem before hand, and I have more free memory on the Desire now than ever before after having a spring clean to find the space to install the update.
May not be this update, but it's the only system aspect which has changed since it began.
I havent had any problems updating to this.

Hi. I received an OTA notification yesterday (14/12/10) that a software update was available to download. I have successfully updated my unbranded sim-free HTC desire to 2.29.405.2. So far I have not noticed any changes to my device nor any adverse problems since the update.
Kind regards
Scott
Looks like it was either a server crash their end of just a staggered release...only thing really of note is a few app updates and smaller bug fixes
I posted this in NilsP's Business GingerSense thread, but don't think it's a ROM issue, more of a Google Talk issue. Running the 2.0 version of that ROM.
The issue is where Google Talk shows all your contacts as Offline after a period of say five to ten minutes, maybe shorter than that. I'll be messaging someone, and after a few minutes when they haven't responded, I'll wake my phone and open GT. All the contacts are Offline. A simple sign out/sign in fixes that, and the usual contacts show Online or Away.I've noticed this all week, so I'm thinking it's a GT issue, but I've never had it happen before.
Don't want to have to sign out/in every time I want to use it. Cleared GT cache, fix permissions, multiple wipes of data/system/cache/boot/dalvik/user data before each ROM install, and haven't had this before now.
Thoughts?
EDIT: After playing, it happens when switching from 3G to WiFi and vice versa, so maybe it is a ROM thing...?
i'm having the same issue. noticed after my gingerbread OTA update from verizon.
Droid 2.
It seems to happen a few minutes after logging on.
I also have that issue with Gtalk. After some time all contacts appear to be offline, but only when I'm on data connection and not on wifi.
There is still no solution for this?
Cheers!

Me too. Anyone was able to do something?
Well I've since moved on, and haven't noticed it on other ROMs. Right now I just tested toggling Wifi on and off, and the contacts would appear offline, then come online once 3g or wifi connected.
I'm thinking in my case, it was that version of the ROM I was running at the time.

True. Right after I rooted over a year ago, I had an issue with the alarm clock not going off intermittantly, and coincidentally I was using ATK at the time. After reading that ATK could be the issue, uninstalling it fixed the issue. Since then, I don't actively kill tasks, but I do have System Panel installed just in case.
I'm running Stock+ v2.6, and since moving on from v2.0 of NilsP's ROM where I had the initial issue, I haven't noticed/had the problem.

Hi,
Me and the other user are I9000 users. No task killers. We're trying to figure out if its a stock / custom ROM issue (since we're both using the same ROM), or some app forcing GTalk to sign out, or even a network problem (we both use the same mobile operator).
Thank you both for your input.
If you're on a stock ROM (you're both rooted right?), back up your ROM and flash another just to see if it happens in something different.

Yes, we are.
The thing is that it seems to me that it happened only after XXVJR (meaning it happened to me in XXJVS and XXJVT, and now we're already at XWJVU, all these being Samsungs "leaks"), and I have a friend with XXJVS that works just fine.
I even tried flashing a stock ROM, to see if it happens again. Testing that one now.
Thanks for your advice.
Same problem here.
Although I have not tried it with stock non rooted phone...
I'm having the same problem on a stock rooted Motorola Photon. Very annoying to have to sign out and back in to see who's online. Hopefully someone comes to the rescue with a solution.
Hi,
The only thing I could find is that the problem is, indeed, NOT in the custom ROM's. It's google's problem.
The only way I could get by was with an alternative IM. And, for me, the better is Trillian (taking battery, performance, etc. in consideration.)
I updated my software which included an updated gtalk with video..so far so good.

I am having this issue too. I have had it since the beginning, when I had the preinstalled stock rom, I had it with all the other stock roms I flashed, I had it with all the versions of Talk I tried (those which supported video calls), I had it with all the other customs roms I tried (Simplicity, CyanogenMod, MIUI). I never used any task killer. For these reasons I am strongly convinced this is a Google Talk related bug.
Some more details about the problem:
after a few minutes after having logged in, contacts are shown offline on Android while they appear online on the desktop client;
despite their offline status I still receive messages from them and as soon as I answer only that contact appears online while the others keep being shown offline;
signing out and back in fixes the problem temporarily, but it happens again after a few minutes.
What surprises me is how come very few people seem noticing it or being annoyed by it? How come a huge bug like this has been out for so long and Google hasn't fixed it yet? All the posts I have seen reporting this problem on Google Talk Help Forum have been ignored.
Exact same problem with my I9100, Gtalk with video. Very annoying.
I have the SGS i777 (Samsung Galaxy S2 on AT&T), and just recently (since late February) started experiencing the same issue. When on WiFi, it doesn't appear to be an issue, only when not on WiFi, particularly if I have just recently turned off WiFi.
Other "friends" show me as "Away", so I am connected.
This is bone stock 2.3.6 Samsung official ROM (never rooted UCKK6).
I tried crawling a bit through the logs (aLogCat output), filtering for "[Tt]alk", but I can't make enough heads or tails about where the failure might be (not being an actual developer), other than lots of messages get created. I'll see if I can't figure something more useful out about it.
A hard reset with no apps installed has the same problem. Though I've noticed that the problem appears to get "worse" as the phone "ages" - namely, hard reset fixes the problem, but it slowly (over days) gets worse and worse.
Update: I have not noticed this issue at all since getting the official Samsung/AT&T ICS build (IML74K.CLE5).
Google Talk failing for toooo loooong
Hi there,
I'm a cyanogen 7.1 (stable) android user, and I just want to join myself to every other person who's affected by this issue.
I'll leave here some links to other places discussion exactly the same issue:
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?can=2&start=0&num=100&q=gtalk%20offline&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars&groupby=&sort=&id=24242
You may check this thread: groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!topic/chat/6m0YqHoiIDg
Until now, I wasn't also able to find any clue to what the cause may be.
Starting to suspect that's something on Google's side, not android/rom itself.
Maybe something to do with our google accounts' settings?
Are there any news about this issue? I'm having the same problem.
