Froyo Update: What you gonna lose - Desire General

I know Google claim that Google claim no data will be lost during update. Let's post here what will be lost.
I lost APN

Not exactly data loss but I lost a couple of applications: Power widget and Tell2me

I didn't loose anything, except for the apps I manually deleted before the upgrade, in order to free enough space for it.

Nothing lost here at all.

I lost absolutely nothing. Everything stayed in place.
SMS, Contacts, Calendar, Gmail, Apps, Settings.

A few issues:
* Interface switched to German (from Switzerland English in 2.1). But can be switched back in the settings;
* Some of the old alarm clock ring tones seem missing, check your settings.
But the rest is working well, very well...

Panoramio killed the camera app for me after I updated to froyo. Removed Panoramio and all was well again. So I suppose I lost that...

I lost my apn settings as well!

I did a 2.2 update via custom rom with built in root and the data i have is on the sd and now just looking at restoring it back. shouldnt be that hard to do

Whats the go with the marketplace apps we can no longer install/download (even paid apps)?
I uninstalled a bunch of stuff and now can't re-install.
Anyone know when this will be fixed or how it will be fixed. Whats stopping the devs creating a completely new entry of the app and making everyone pay again?

I didn't lose anything! That's so good because I'm used that it gets reset whenever you update/flash it (had an Sony Ericsson C510 before)

Hmm how long has it been since setting it all up. It might just be all of the google stuff syncing... I had the same thing happen to me! Leave it for 20 minutes or something and see if it works any better
same issue here.. I HATE IT
I doubt it is because of root or rom. I had this issue as wel up until yesterday. It was suddenly fixed. I think because I usually install apps using Astro (or any file explorer), because of hard resetting etc. I thought maybe if i install an app directly from the market, it would fix it. I installed 'msn talk', did a reboot and it's fast now.. I don't know if this was what made it work, but it's working great now.
edit: before that I tried to uninstall a market update and reinstall again. But it was still slow after uninstall, reinstall and cleared caches.
I am on a non rooted device btw.
I`ve rooted 4 devices today and all same to have this issue .. ?
Just out of interest were any of you also missing the "top paid" tab as well. It was missing from my market after rooting as well as the slowdown, then it just appeared about a half hour in. Also did any of you have a similarly slow market when you first got the device. I am on T-mobile and for the first couple of days it was lagging in much the same way as it is now. Maybe it is to do with something new devices do, like the Google sync suggested.
I found that it is best to install all apps manually. Backup programs somehow slow everything down for me! Plus I dont know if the updates are pushed to you because the g market doesnt think you have installed them
My market is so slow but I didnt rooted my device
same issue here...

is that new issue or something to do with android market??? recent update or something? or it is just the desire? Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
It's the same with mine (not rooted) since about 4 days. Have to keep rebooting even to try and install/uninstall anything.

Hmm..
No problems here at all.
Fast market, top paid apps showing.
Rooted with r3 linux cd method.
did not install a2sd.
so far no hiccups at all.
I'm getting this. Rooted, Apps2SD.
Been on a few different ROM's, now back to the original rooted one.
Not all of my restored apps (using Titanium Backup) were showing when I went to Downloads. What I have just done is got Settings - Applications - Manager Apps and cleared the market cache and all the apps seems to have returned. Still very slow though... but maybe getting quicker. Is it a syncing thing?
Anyone that did have the slow down, is it getting quicker now?
I can confirm, clearing the market cache seems to fix this.

Hello,
Yes before i rooted the Market was a dogs arse, Very slow, then after a day or to, it was as fast as i would expect it to be, then i rooted my device, again it was slow for a few days, but is now back to normal.
I think it just needs time to sort its self out, like a alcholic the morning after!!.
The only thing i have used diffrently since i rooted was the cache cleaner app in the market.
I can confirm, clearing the market cache seems to fix this.

It's not instant, but I had to do it again yesterday. I cleared cache and installed about 30 apps. By that time the market was back up to speed.
what if you have no cache to clear and the problem still persists
try logging into google talk, that works for me

Facebook app non-operational....

So as of last night, my stock facebook app is not showing the news feed. It keeps on giving me an error 500 and does not work when i try to look at it. I did not make any changes to the phone or to my facebook account, it just quit working. Does anybody have a fix for this or is anybody seeing this issue? I already tried the newest version of the app off of the market, same result. I also reset the phone a couple times and even pulled the battery, with no luck.

Nobody huh. I guess im the only one on the planet with this issue.

You said you tryed the latest version. Did you uninstall and reinstall? Did you go to settings applications manage and force close and wipe cache?
I have had my Desire only a few weeks and i have had this issue from the start, however it is an intermittant problem, sometimes it works sometimes it dont.

Try emailing the dev? Thdere should be an option in the marketplace.
Yep i tried everything to no avail. I reverted, rebooted, used the force..... Nothing. I even went as far as modifying things in my privacy and account settings on facebook, and changed passwords. Nothing worked. I gave up, and magically this morning at about 8am it started working again..... Im pretty sure this was an internal face ook error, not software or hardware on my end.

[Q] Restoring Apps from AppBrain

Hi. I am in desperate need of some help...I updated my hTc Desire HD from 2.2 to 2.3 but unfortunately had many issues with my internet, both 3g and wiFi. I finally had no alternative but to reset my device. I am basically having to start all over, however, my apps are still on AppBrain via the Web but I can't figure out how to sync them back to my device. Despite 'back up my settings' and 'automatic restore' being checked under the privacy setting absolutely nothing got retored! It is so annoying that this update caused so many issues and even after the reset my WiFi is still not working and 3g is intermittent. Any help would be much appreciated. Kind regards, Scott
Don't know id it will help you, but try in appbrain:
Manage and sync -> my list -> select one check the date -> add all apps.

Many thanks for your reply, unfortunately, this does not appear to work. Kind regards, Scott
Sorry for that. Hope you will find out.

Hi Scott I had this issue with appbrain too - unfortunately I had to reinstall also. I am now using Titainium backup and that does restore all apps extremely well.
Sorry its not a solution to appbrain.

Thank you. I had to eventually go through the very painful of reinstalling all of my apps manually! I remain very disgruntled because as I stated in my original post WiFi is still not working and I had to download and install all my apps via 3g which was intermittent and painfully slow. I do wish that I was able to revert back to 2.2 Froyo which I had no issues with. Kind regards, Scott

For me appbrain only seems to sync apps on the DHD and shows when there is an update, not sure how to get it so apps are backed up on appbrain.
I would get Titainium backup if I was you as it backs up absolutely all apps and also system settings if you want also which makes everything much quicker when restoring.
There are also some other good backup apps about.
I have things like sms contacts etc backed up on my Google mail so automatically syncs from web to DHD.

[Q] htc locations automatically starting up

I'm experiencing a very annoying what seems common problem.
Where HTC locations loads itself automatically at random intervals.
I have looked all over the site for a fix but unable to find it.
Tried deleting the navigation folder from .data. cleaning usb socket. Resetting phone. Clearing all caches etc
I have also installed an app called "skip HTC locations" but hasn't and isn't doing a thing. Also notice its happening more and more when pluggging in my charger
But its still happening. And assistance is greatly appreciated
Lee
You tried to uninstall it?
Can be uninstalled from /System/App, Remember to do a backup before removing anything.

Its not a rooted phone so unable to uninstall i think ?
in applications i have both "locations" and "locations launcher"
only thing i can do is clear cache which i have done and on "locations" i can "uninstall updates" which i have also tried and problem is still there,
Just that when i have removed the updates, it still automatically starts up "htc locations" randomly and then asks me to download files.
Hmm yea It's not much to do when you are not rooted I think. =\

The locations app has now stopped launching. But when I make a call loudspeaker is automatically activated at the start of the call so seems like usb socket is shorting somewhere thinking its in dock mode still?
Yes that could be the problem =\

Same problem here, did you manage to fix it?
I had the same problem yesterday. I really went mad! It started locations like 5-6 times and wanted to download some update and maps, I just couldn't get rid of it! Then I downloaded something and it prompted me to download (actualy purchase) individual maps and I rejected and then all of a sudden it stopped. The phone was NOT in the charger. No new popups since.

Still doing it to me, whether in charger or out. Posted a thread about it which is down the page but no replies!!!
I have found a "fix" for the issue.
I could not root my phone for some reason, so normal uninstall of locations wasn't an option for me.
I cannot exactly tell the steps I have done, cause I tried several things at a time and I don't know which one worked, but the main thing was:
- I made a factory reset, which did not change much appart from that I could plug in the phone to PC and see it as a drive.
- I removed some files related to locations from SD card
- In one of the menus related to application managment I had an option to reinstall locations
- I clicked on it
- AND I removed the battery in the middle of installation
- After turning on "Locations" were asking about making an install once again, but I chose an option "go to hell" and voila, no more hate against your own phone.
FIX by destruction

What to do with wifes wildfire s..... and rom advice

Bought this for my wife for christmas last year and recently shes been moaning about it for a bit becoming really slow and also that the facebook friendstream app keeps hanging. I'm guessing the friendstream thing is a bug? Its a sim free handset and totally stock. The only way to get it to work is to remove the FB account and re enter details, it'll then work for a few days and then just stop updating and the only way is to remove it again....
Any ideas on that part? Also there is only about 3 or 4 apps and its got 20mb free and the handset keeps complaing about low space, so I'm guessing the only way around that is to root and unlock the handset to install a custom rom that allows data2sd etc?
Not that fussed about the rom but she likes sense widgets so a sense rom is preferable but something that doesnt feel like its going to grind to a halt every minute
Thats providing I can of course unlock the bootloader, something ive not yet tried.
1. Download SOS Backup, backup everything.
2. Factory Reset.
(That will fix the low memory problem, because it will clear all the unnecessary data that apps leave behind after deletion. As well as deleting everything in the internal memory. Don't worry about your music/photos/videos though, they're safe unless you tell it to clear the SD card as well. Which would be a stupid move on your part! )
I can only help with the slowness problem if her phone is rooted. So, is it?
thanks, no its not rooted its 100% stock

Well that may be fixed with a factory reset too.. But in case it isn't, just remove the friend stream and Facebook widget etc.. They're notorious for slow performance. Sorry i can't be of better help than that.. :\
if you root your phone you can install a custom ROM and you can get rid of all these problems but you'll lose your warranty so i think its your choice.
