AOSP Froyo green and pink lol! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently running CM6 RC1 and I am loving the rom but I am not sure if some of the colors are off. When a call disconnects or things like that the colors are green for connect and the disconnect color is pink? Should it be red or is pink right? Also is there anyway to change this without going to a theme. I like my current setup and the only thing I am not liking is the pink. Nothing against pink just dont like it with green I guess.

haha noticed the same thing the other day, stuff that you would guess should be red are instead pink, i really suck at editing images, but it you wanna give it a try all the images should be within the Phone.apk i believe.

Found the Apk what do I use to open it so I can see the images?

Ok.. lol I have put the file on my desktop and found all the image files but when I open them they are just code. Am I opening them wrong? I tried opening them with paint.net but it didnt work. So are the images really just code or am I doing something wrong?

from the phone.apk, there are drawable png files within res, i believe. they are png files, so you should be able to open them with any standard image editing program. i would think that paint.net shouldn't have problems opening the png files, but i am not familiar with the capabilities of paint.net
if you are opening the xml files, or files with any extension other than png, you are opening the wrong files.

upload the images on here and ill see if i can fix them

[Q] help with all apps fc after modifying images in framework-res

i decided to make my taskbar and tasktray transparent so i pulled framework-res from my phone, extracted and modified the images, and then made a flashable zip and reflashed it (i used the update-script from a theme i have that replaces the framework-res so i know it works). it flashes and boots fine and doesnt bootloop or anything but any app i open whether it be settings or gmail or root explorer force closes and theres no way to do anything but scroll on my home screen. the only thing that works is the usb connection type picker.
images i modified:
activity_title_bar.9.png
status_bar_background.png
status_bar_close_on.9.png
status_bar_header_background.9.png
status_bar_item_app_background_normal.9.png
status_bar_item_background_focus.9.png
status_bar_item_background_normal.9.png
status_bar_item_background_pressed.9.png
title_bar_portrait.9.png
i have a sneaking suspicion that its either the title_bar_portrait.9.png and/or the activity_title_bar.9.png
or just *.9.png files in general. all are rgb color and between 50% and 75% opacity if it matters
please help
edit- i took out the title_bar_portrait.9.png and the activity_title_bar.9.png and it works now so it was one or both of them. does anyone know why they broke everything and how to make it so they dont?
Id carry this over to the Q & A forum cause u gonna get told lol
Sent from my phone... I think using Tapatalk??
Patch9 files are not normal png files. You may have destroyed the .9 data by editing it. Also, take a clean copy of your original framework-res.apk off your phone and then using 7zip just open the file (don't unzip), and then drag and drop your modified images into the appropriate folders in the apk. Don't try and resign or make a new framework file.

how can i modify them and restore the data? right now though i have the .9 images from above minus activity_title and title_bar modified and the system seems to be working like a charm. all i did was change the opacity in gimp aside from the background which i changed to a digi camo pattern

You could open the images with the 9patch tool in the sdk and double check them. Then save it using the tool.
Sent from your mom's phone.
i never noticed that before
so just open them with it and save them and i should be all good?
You could try just re-saving them. If that doesn't work, you can use the tool to check for problems. Maybe the easiest way to make sure everything is ok would be to open the original 9patch image and look at how the borders are drawn, then make sure you have the same borders in your image. I'm not an expert on 9patch files, but hopefully that will help you.

[Q] editting png

I have been looking for this png(see attachment) I changed one in HtcContact.apk. I've found several others like it but not the correct one. it's the default contact image for when you don't assign an image to a contact.
anyone?
also, I have been editting png files by pulling the apk with android commander, then editting or replacing a png using 7zip then pushing back using commander.
any harm in this? I haven't seen any yet........
try taking a peak in the framework files. /system/framework/com.htc.resources.apk and /system/framework/framework-res.apk
No harm, just keep a backup of whatever apk you modify. If something goes wrong you will basically just get force closes until you restore the original file
Thanks, found it in /system/framework/com.htc.resources.apk

I edited both of those pics using gimp. I'm not sure which one is the actual image for the contact list cause I got impatient and changed them both.
I sorta followed this thread>http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-evo-4g-themes-mods/133616-how-theme-building-sgbz.html
what I actually did was pull com.htc.resources.apk with the program android commander (http://androidcommander.com/), open the archive with
7zip, copied the png to a seperate folder, edited with gimp, copied back to the open archive, closed the archive and then pushed back to phone.
I must tell you, my profession is in auto repair, I really have no clue what I'm doing but I am having fun and learning as I go...

Need help with boot animation

I made a custom boot animation to go along with the theme that Shane6374 and I made (you can find our theme here: [THEME]Special Edition:midNIGHT ROM Autism Awareness Theme+LP+Icons+Boot Animation) and its not working. Basically what I did was I took a boot animation that works (its the one I am using now) and replaced the .png's with my own. But when I boot up all I get is a black screen until the phone boots. I have checked everything I can think of. The pics are the same dimensions, the same resolution, the same format. The only thing I see different is that mine uses more colors. IDK if that is a limitation on boot animations (but I doubt it). Does anyone have any ideas? There must be something I am missing. I'm going to post the bootanimation.zip I made here so feel free to download it and see if you can figure out what is wrong.

Your desc.txt file is saved in windows format. it uses a different code for carriage returns than does unix formatted text files. you can just open it up in something like notepad++ and under edit-->EOL Conversion switch it to unix format and it should work.

Didn't work. You were right about the the format, so I changed it to Unix, but I still get a blank screen instead of the animation while its booting.
I uploaded the bootanimation.zip with the new desc.txt file just in case you wanted to double check.
Here is something interesting.....
I decided to look at the files in the bootanimation.zip on my phone. I used Root Explorer and went into the part0 folder. The images display just fine with Astro Image viewer, but Gallery just gives me a blank screen. I think its some sort of issue with the native image viewer not being able to display these images properly. If this were Windows I would say I am missing a driver, but its Linux.
So, I say again.....any ideas?
Oh. Your zip is compressed. Make sure you set it to no compression when you make your archive.

I started with the boot animation that is currently on my phone. I used 7zip to open the bootanimation.zip and replaced the original images with mine. I didn't change any compression settings (that I am aware of anyway).
I'm not sure about 7zip, I use winrar, but I imagine it might work similarly. If I just drag and drop files into and out of an archive it automatically compresses them. When I opened your archive the PNGs were ever so slightly compressed, not much since they are already so small, but any compression will stop it from playing. In winrar I just add the folder and txt file to a new archive and just use "store" as the compression method. I don't know what the setting is in 7zip but it probably has some similar setting.
OK, so now I need to figure out where the compression settings in 7zip are.
Thanks
There was also some issues with your file names. They need to be in the format "ANYNAME_00001.png" I believe. So you need to have any random name with an underscore, it doesn't matter what, but the numbering has to include 5 digits. I went ahead and did it and packaged it up for you. Works on my phone, Bonsai 3.0.1. Cool stuff!

Thanks! I knew it had to be something simple that I was missing. If I could hit the Thanks button 1000 times I would. I just flashed it on mine and it works.
Thanks again.
Frames can be named anything as long as th order is inlin for android to read properly.
Ex.
Name_001
Name_002
Name_003
Name_004
Name_005
Name_006
Name_007
Name_008
Name_009
Name_010 and so on.
Also use 7zip for zipping them up with it always set on store.
Another thing to watch out for is that when creating your part folders usin a pc running wndows, be careful not to let windows throw a hidden indexing file into the folder. This happens a lot and will give the animation the white flash screen that so many ppl have problems with, it can also cause the black nothing screen.

Thanks. This is my first one so I had a bit of a learning curve. I used up all my thanks on optmsprim2 but I'll come back tomorrow and get you.
BTW I looked but I can't find where you set the compression settings in 7zip. How do I set in on store?

JB, I found it last night. When you "add to archive" the options for compression come up. It almost the same as in winrar.
Sent from my Epic 4G running the midNIGHT rom via Tapatalk
Everything works and its packaged up to flash with CW3.
Thanks a ton for your guys' help. Follow the link in the OP and go to post #2 for the Clockwork flashable zip

I assume the original image is actually in framework-res.apk?
If so, I suspect it's a decompiling/recompiling problem.
Also, if it's just a png or jpg you're replacing, there's no need to decompile - just drop the new image into the correct folder in the apk using 7-Zip.

Hi, thanks for reply, basically i have just taken a pic from someoneone elses theme and swapped pic with that of the theme i am using so should be right format (right?) but how when i have extracted with 7zip how do i get it all back as .apk file... i used a program called formatter to do it first time!!
Don't extract it, make sure the image you want to replace is named the same and it isn't a .9.png...open the framework-res with 7zip (open archive) navigate to the necessary folder and drop your new png in. That should work
If you extract it you break the signature, that's why you're getting a bootloop.

Thanks matey, just done itand it works great, didnt realise it was that easy...
EDIT: Also thanks to you m1keyb, you answered as i sent this post!! lol :good:
If the picture you're replacing is in the same apk and is the same format (png, jpg) and has the same name and is the same size (px x px) then it ought to be OK.
If the picture you want use is OK, open the apk with 7-Zip (don't unzip it), and simply drop the picture in the correct folder and it'll replace the picture that's already there.
Edit: sn0wman1 edited the post I was replying to and m1keyb replied too - lol, I'm slow!

Yeah. its just an png image file. Just gotta find where its at/what apk its in and swap it out

download 7zip (free), Take the apk it is/is in, right click the apk, select extract, go to res/drawable-xxhdpi or res/drawable-sw360dp-xxhdpi, youll find it in one of them, rename the image you want to use and name it the same and copy it to the same place. delete all the other folders inside the res folder except the one/s you swapped images out in, then right click the apk again, select open as archive and just drag and drop the entire res folder you just swapped the image out in, close the window and flash/adb push it to the phone.
Build.prop doesnt control images like that, and adb is for debugging/pushing/pulling/etc purposes
apktool (which I prefer over ones with a GUI like multi-tool, etc) can decompile apks tho. But you dont need to do that if all youre doing is images. If you want to edit xml colors, layouts,or smali edits, and those kinds of mods youll need to decompile the apk.
Thanks, you make sound so simple ??? , I have 7zip already on my pc, just need to extract or d/l image that I need so I can swap it out. Can I save the apk as a zip so I can share it ?
