According to this: http://support.sprint.com/support/a...e-wh164052-20100527-115429?&INTNAV=SU:DP:HDIA

How is this the wrong forum? He's asking the developers if his downloading Froyo, extracting it, and sending it to them would be a help to their development of Froyo-based ROMs.
Ha!
I swear to God 80% of all posts on XDA are people replying to other people, telling them they are posting on the wrong forum (without even telling them where they 'should' be posting) Very Hilarious but also far far more annoying then the supposed misplaced post itself. p.s. please reply to this telling me I'm posting in the wrong forum, it will make my day.

Welcome to XDA. Please notice the nice place set up for questions like this, conveniently labeled "Q/A." See all the question marks there? It's for questions, just like this! The devs read that forum too! Now take a look around this subforum. Notice threads with content, downloads, changelogs - in essence, development.
I hope this was helpful. Have a great day!
Thank you!

5 posts of "Wrong Forum". You're just as cancerous as the threads that you post in.
to OP, Thank you for willing and waiting with the rest of us and yes if you do get your hands on that OTA it will help tremendously. Do post here if you get it.
Really?
Ok first drumdude are you a moderator? Have you done any development ever? Do you post anything other then nasty remarks? If I were a moderator I would ban hammer you not the person offering to help.
Seriously people just because you have anonymity behind your user name doesn't give you the right to be rude. Stop jumping on a post and yelling at the poster, if the moderators have a problem they will move the post you are not the police and all you are doing in potentially scaring off help!!! Which correct me if I'm wrong a development forum is DEPENDENT on.
I for one have been taken aback and offended by some of the blatant rudeness on this forum.
We never know who is new or who is posting something. What if a HTC dev was posting a question with the intent to leak info to us and you blasted him like this? Do you think he would want to help after that? Or what if someone who was posting a question also happened to be at HTC legal and got pissed enough to force all our nice developers to stop using anything HTC with a cease order (which they can legally do whenever they want) all because of some rude poster.
Please people be responsible and think before you speak the world and this forum will be better for it.

You might want to step back and take a deep breath or two (jeez probably three.)
You're not a mod either, so how about you calm down and go outside or something?
Check to see if the PRI updates from 1.34_003 to another one.
seriously, folks....
Did you not read any of the forum guidelines before you started posting? Did you not understand them? IF YOU AREN'T POSTING UP DEVELOPMENT MATERIAL (e.g a new ROM, a new kernel, a system hack, a new radio) STOP STARTING THREADS IN THERE.
the q and a forum is for questions.
and, if you are having an issue with a particular kernel, rom, radio, troll the thread concerning that particular item. chances are that someone else has had the problem, and that another person solved it. if it hasn't been solved, post in that thread, with specifics to your issue.
you do not need to start a thread. in fact, when you start threads that have to be moved, your leftovers have to be cleaned up behind you.
/rant
and no, i don't need some person (db, i'm looking at you) to come in here and say "blah blah blah you're just a wanna be mod", or some other non-helpful comment. the fact of the matter is that there is a place for everything. please keep it in its place. you're more likely to find your answer by searching first, and posting in the correct place. you will also find that you are not starting a load of silly flaming as people bicker and fight about stupid crap.

why am i complaining? because why should i have to sift through 8 tons of crap because someone else can't read? the development forum is busy enough. if 15 threads weren't moved every day, you'd have to sift through page after page after page of complete nonsense just to find the actual things that belong in there.

I hear you and I just joined XDA not too long ago at all. A few things I learned right away:
- USE THE DAMN SEARCH BUTTON
- READ READ READ READ READ READ
- If you can't find an answer using the search button, open a new tab and Google it
- Still can't find an answer? You'd better search through the other threads before starting a new thread
- These threads wouldn't be so long if people would simply read the OP
- Kittehz r dyin cuz u dont no how 2 reed
Seriously though, I hate to see a great community become angered over lazy people. It ruins it for those of us who do heed the rules.
I am with the OP and to the persons aying if more devs came and answered there questions in QA they wouldnt ask in dev .... most of the people answering questions in DEv arent the DEVS. the DEVS are busy developing things and shouldnt be expected to waste there time answering the same 3 questions everyday all day.
Many people on the forum DO come to the Q&A and try to provide insight. Some are less helpful then others but in general you will get flamed less, you will get the answer and you wont cause issues with the "neatness" of the forums.

Fair enough. As a seasoned XDA vet of a whopping 3 posts (including this one), I would defer to you on this issue, but I just think it looks like you're complaining to the wrong people. We're already in the Q&A which means we're already doing what you devs have been trying to get the offending posters (who are over in the dev forum) to do. They're not gonna see your OP in here because they're too busy bypassing the Q&A and heading over to Dev to annoy you guys with generic questions again.
Basically what has happened is the Evo and other somewhat likfe phones have blown up. Word spread like wildfire that XDA was the place to get any and all help with your phones. (Which don't get me wrong 99% of the people here are more then willing to help.) This brought a lot of new people on the scene and wanting information and help. Unfortunately some of those people don't want to play by the rules of the road.
Maybe it's just me but it seems like over the past couple months this is what's happened. I seem to remember another thread this was brought up and a suggestion was made about being a member for a certain period of time before being able to create a new thread. I'm not saying this needs to happen because I don't think that would solve anything actually.
Ok...my rant's over now too.
*Just my 2 cents*
Ok, i know people should use the search button before posting a question, or submitting an incorrect fact BUT SERIOUSLY every other reply is just another person insulting someone else!
I know it's hard to keep your cool sometimes with people asking/stating the same things over and over, but is there rely the need to be an a*s about it. All thats going to do is provoke a reaction (Because everyone is invincible on the internet) and that will just lead to more useless posting, which if i'm right thats what you were trying to prevent in the first place!
This is not an attack on any person, nor is it meant to cause offense, but honestly forums are about friendship where everyone can come and gain advice/guidance or just have a nice chat to learn(Everyone has to start somewhere) and a lot of people on here are not helping them. Would you like to have someone talk to you like that when you were just starting out and didn't have a clue what you were doing?. . . NO you would want an easy answer so you could learn from it, in the same amount of time it takes to flame someone for not knowing it you could have told the the bloody answer!
I know I'll properly get a lot of people flaming me for this but just needed to get this out my system because i think its out of order.
Like me mum used to say "If you ain't got anything nice to say, pi*s off!"

Why would you get flamed when all you said is an honest truth?
The forum is full of morons and self appointed forum nazis, hell I could name a few in a split second who do this all the time...
This behaviour is probably induced by the lack of moderator presence. This Desire subforum has couple of thousand posts daily, and I see only two moderators listed.

Like it or not, this is a forum - and a HUGE one at that, as erklat has said, thousands of posts each day. This make stringent enforcement hard.
And every forum that I have ever been to seemed to have (sadly, but is it avoidable?) a social structure, whether clearly displayed or not - and probably, that's the way its going to be (for a long time to come).

big difference between taking the piss out of someone and abusing them tho....
it comes down to laziness on users. People want information given to them on a plate and not have to find it themselves. The issue is that rule number 1 of the forum rules is to search
If you can't follow a simple rule then you deserve to get flamed
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
So maybe I'm just reading the handfull of threads that are being actively policed by the moderators...
Or maybe I have a really thick skin..
Or maybe the very few people whom I do see getting flamed actually deserve what they're getting (i.e. those who expressly list in their post that they can't be arsed to search and those who have the gall to post in developer threads with "your rom sucks, I'll never use it unless you add ...")..
Whatever the cause, I simply don't agree with your observation. People here are being genuinely helpful and the mods are doing a great job cleaning up bad posts and flames (as evidenced by those "thread cleaned" posts every now and then).
Depends on the section. It's ruined the Dev section because of leniency so there's a major clamp-down now in process, which I obviously applaud.
I have not till date seen anyone of thousands ask a valid question/concern and be policed, ridiculed or flamed. The help here is extremely benevolent and common. However, hundreds make invalid, undeserving posts justifying scorn but get away with it with smiles in response. That's the other, bigger side of what you mention.
I hate the playground child forum behavior immensely too. Trust me, so do the mods I've come across. I've seen quite a few past the limits on this. The users who reply and continuously flame are usually just as bad, except the one offs and the ones justified. They're meant to simply report the one breaking the rules and mods will deal with them as justified.
In my limited experience, 99% of those opposing/objecting to following the set rules don't have a clue about them but have big mouths and like to talk any nonsense to justify what they did. They are clueless about the rules on xda-dev and what this place is all about long before they were ever aware of it. The 'mantra' here. They come on here expecting the place to follow their own personal beliefs and rules, just causing havoc. That's why mods say, if you be so, better find somewhere else. And if a user repeats the obvious oft-repeated, that insults and offends everyone. It's a spit in their face, and of the mods, and it is bound to anger many with justification. Those who abide by the rules have placed much time and effort in doing so. Don't expect them to just laugh around while another just comes storming in trampling on them with great disregard. The same goes in every sphere of life.
The internet shows time and time again how modern society en-masse fails grossly in the honesty, decency, humility, intelligence and mentality departments. Greed, ego and stupidity rule, that's why places like xda-dev need to have firm rules enforced to maintain some quality. This place was always known for quality, and having spoken to mods, I know they work hard - for free - to maintain it as so. Be human, have some regard for them and others here before posting.

What I would ask, is that people who see something that offends you, report it.
We can't read every post in every forum, but I can tell you that each and every report is seen and acted upon. We rely on members helping us to root out the bad apples.
This is what I've posted in the Oxygen thread. I think it sums up my feelings on this subject.
The frustration shown here by both AdamG, and _thalamus, must surely give people an indication of how annoying it is to see a thread be totally ruined by people who are too lazy to try and help themselves.
It's sad that you need reminded that the people who develop roms and post them here, do so for no personal gain, and do so to try and help us all get the best possible user experience from our devices.
The sad fact of life in today's society is that people want to be spoon-fed, they are too lazy to carry out a simple piece of research, and they demand that they get what they want, when they want. Then once they get it, they demand more. This is not what XDA-Developers is all about. If you need to ask what this forum is for, then you surely are in the wrong place.
Please take a moment and ask yourself, do you find your device now runs faster, smoother, is faster updated etc? If the answer is yes, then that is down to the dedication of the developers here. If you drive them away with your laziness, rudeness, demands etc, then you only have yourself to blame.
Please show the developers some respect. If you feel they owe you something, then do us all a favour and move on to somewhere else.

No. This behaviour is usually induced by a severe lack of self esteem on the part of the bully.
In my opinion, if a question is deemed flammable, just report it instead of answering.
This can achieve two goals. People will start to understand that it will be faster to search instead of demand. And for those "Are we there yet"s, each unjustified bumps/reposts would count as multiples infractions. Thus, a faster banning.
I must agree will that

That's very true. Flaming somebody for an idiotic post instead of reporting it makes about as much sense as posting only "Cool, thanks" instead of using the "Thanks" button. Waste of space.
I have noticed recentlyl that that the people who know stuff have reduced their posts. This is counter productive. But I can understand why. And I've seen some bad advice given by others.

You got totally wrong perception about flaming. If someone posts a question about recommended radio for the tenth time, and you go with flaming and rudeness, it points out one and only thing - you are even worse than him/her, he is not in the violation of the forum rules, you are. In that situation you either respond to help, or you don't respond at all. A binary choice. You are either a smoker or a non smoker. You can't be a moron in that story and smoke an electronic cigar. Well, this is similar.
Sometimes I reply to silly posts, sometimes I don't. I don't make a drama out of it. The problem of this and other forums are illiterate halfwits who are unable to keep a decent intellectual and communicational level in their posts.

just because someones primary language might not be English doesn't make them an illiterate halfwit. I think many of the communication issues in this and other forums can be chalked up to a language barrier.
I got flamed a bit in the post i made about ROMs. Pissed me off a bit, but i just ignored it.
As someone new to this forum, but some experience in other specialized forums for many years I was at first surprised and then a bit angered about the massive amount of totally useless posts.
I bought my first smartphone last year and after some weeks I found in xda the richest fountain of information. The first time it is not easy to learn, especially if you have to wade through pages and pages of silly, pointless and sometimes downright dumb posts. Extremely annoying are the repeated questions about a problem, which is explained thouroughly in the first 3 or 4 posts of a thread, as this is a proof for the total disregard of the OP, who is often the developer.
I think, this "I wanna be spoon-fed and pampered"-behaviour is actually encouraged in our society - the sad point is, in the late nineties these kind of people couldn´t post in forums - it was simply too complicated for them to use a computer
Today every simpleton with the ability to push a button can post in forums like this - with the observable consequences. Phewww /end rant
What to do about it - I don´t know. In other forums I have seen, the quality gets better through massive and sometimes hard moderation - but these forums were much smaller than xda.
So I can understand the anger, but it is as pointless as the silly questions: it only wastes space and makes threads harder to read.
Reporting pointless posts to moderation with a warning to the poster and maybe a strict "3-strikes and you´re out"-rule would bring some success, but also an massive amount of discussion about censorship, freedom of expression etc.
What to say: I´ll read and maybe sometimes post a question and hope, that this massive fountain of information will not become a mere trickle.
English is not my mother-tongue, therefore my use of grammar might be sometimes a little funny.
Hey I like how you three flamed me on a CLOSED thread (yet left it up) so that I couldn't respond to your comments. Isn't that a bit cowardly. Uh, the answer to that question is YES.
To the guy who is so thanked, if you look at anything other than the "post edited" line on my original question and somehow compared it to the original post, you would see that I changed grammar and spelling and clarified and amplified. I did not change it in response to your 'help.' So suck it, huh?
To the admins who closed the thread but also couldn't help taking pot shots at me and who comment on how the that other guy has so many contributions, I obviously noticed that. However I stand by my comments there. That guy is not a moderator and he did not directly address my question. There are many posts with no responses to them, and he should have just kept quiet until admins acted. I do not know that guy from a hole in the wall so I did not appreciate his 'answers.' I wrote in the thread that if an admin closed the thread then fine.
And you ADMINS DID close it and I of course have no problem with that. However I DO have a problem with people typing snide comments and then being too chicken to allow me to respond in kind.
ALSO, one the the stickys say that such posts will be deleted without notice. So why the asinine snide remarks instead of merely deleting the thread? Are you trying to show Sprint that you take such questions seriously and close the threads? Because otherwise you SHOULD have followed you OWN RULES and deleted the thread without notice.
Oh and I DID do a google search before posting and did not see an answer to this specific question. If you'd like you could put your money where your mouth is and email me some examples because I think you are full of it on this.
I hope you feel embarrassed at breaking your own rules and also for making such chicken**** comments essentially from behind a fortress wall. I assume you are all younger than say 15 years old.
PS I edited for grammar and sentence structure and to clarify again. duh, you, huh?
Seriously? You are blaming the guy who offered gentle advice on what not to be discussed for the timing of the head Mod closing the thread? Instead of just letting the guy leave you flamed him back again? You really should reread your post and look in a mirror. We are all here to try to help each other. He did not leave. In fact he flamed ME last (and was incorrect in his assumptions). Admins did not allow me to respond. And gentle advice that does not answer the question? Why does it matter if it is gentle, it just adds to a thread that otherwise should have been empty until the people in charge dealt with it. Speaking of which, this was specifically addressed to certain people, not you.
Also, those last jibes were made in such a way to prevent me from responding to them which is cowardly, yes?
Also if your read the Epic4g to Boost Mobile data thread you will see that I solved an issue and posted the answer. It is an unusual problem so perhaps people don't run into it too much but it is still a solved problem, so I try to contribute as well.
AND not only do I 'thank' users but I also donate $ to themer's, ROM'ers etc.
Words of advice ...
Posting a complaint thread about a moderator's actions will most likely result in account infractions or suspension.
I highly recommend you send a PM to another moderator or post in this thread asking for a senior moderator to investigate the actions taken.
As an admin and moderator for many other sites, posting a thread like this is likely to result in even worse punishment than a few remarks. Concerns about moderator or staff actions should be taken up with a higher ranking member in private. As an admin, I would have properly chewed them out over the comments they made in a closed thread when the case was closed. But with this thread being created, I'd more likely ban you and be done with it as it only seeks to cause more harm than good.
In the end, I still agree that he was only trying to point out that you broke the rules. Trolling about it is just a waste of time.
*Sniffs*
Mmm, I can just smell the banwich being prepared for this guy.

OP, all you needed to do was change the of that thread, but instead you decided it would be better to start a flame war with me that you should have know that wouldn't end in your favor.
As far as the thread getting close and being left up. I had nothing to do with that. The thread was open for over 3 hours after my last post. Another thing i was doing in your thread was trying to prevent some other user that might not know the rules from replying to you with a link or any info on how to do hat you were asking and earning a ban themselves by trying to help, but breaking the rules.
As far as us being a bunch of 15 year olds, you are way off in that assumption.
To the guy who is so thanked, if you look at anything other than the "post edited" line on my original question and somehow compared it to the original post, you would see that I changed grammar and spelling and clarified and amplified. I did not change it in response to your 'help.' So suck it, huh?

Who's the 15 year old?
Enjoy the ban you are sure to get from this thread.
Actually it is more like a 6 year old throwing a tantrum..."I didn't get to flame back" and that is the basis for this whine in the wrong sub-forum no less.
Please delete this useless thread mods.

Damn! Why is this thread still open and not deleted? What a whiny OP. Is he really mad because he didn't get the last word before mods closed the thread because he was too whiny and flaming there too? And then blame the others in the thread because it was taking him 3 hours to come up with an "Oh yeah?" Wow!
Get on the Ban wagon!
In before the lock! lol I always wanted to do that ;-)

When I closed the thread, I made no "snide" remarks. I gave a reason why the thread was being closed. Just like this one.
If you have a problem with a forum moderator, contact the forum admin.
My goodness lol I know a lot about hacking, my phone, roms ,general troubleshooting and a lot of other things and also a lot about forums and the vermin that live in them. I just don't say much because I never was a forum posting guy I'm a do it my self guy. Throwing "NOOB" around to some guy/girl that just wants to know how to operate or troubleshoot his/her galaxy that he paid a great deal for is b.s. I read countless a** hole replies that don't even answer the question, a lot of the answers are just failed attempts to sound like the "cool" sarcastic guy that sits in the back of a remedial math class. I've been coming to xda since I had a g2 (never registered) and slowly and slowly the community is turning from people that would kind of help you to d**ks with a false sense of entitlement that reply with a totally unreasonable response. Yeah it's common knowledge to a lot of people but some people really don't know what they are doing and don't want a brick and need the help of this lovely community. I'm not ranting its just my opinion on whats CLEARLY going on if you don't like it f*** off and go fly a kite.
I do not support smart guys who constantly ask eta questions though.
The problem I see is that, as you say, these people don't know what they're doing and want the information handed to them.
I've never seen a post get a BAD response when the person clearly outlined their problem and explained what they already knew and why their research wasn't getting them anywhere.
The people that DON'T make posts like that need to do some research - not just have the information thrown at them for their own good. Think about if you just gave someone information on how to build and operate a bomb without them knowing how it worked and how to do it safely. Sure, they're probably not going to lose fingers - but they could brick an expensive device and it's kinder to give some tough love and pointing in the direction of research, knowledge, and understanding before they make a mess that they can't get out of.
In the words of H.P. Lovecraft : "Do not call up that which you can not put down".
Yeah I know what your saying and I agree. Just that some people ask questions live what boxes should I check in Odin, whats a zip lol, should I wipe b4 or after, what original dev, how do I root. Those a simple questions and they are common knowledge to a lot (maybe not how do I root because many things can go wrong if you derp it up). These can get simple responses or links but ppl will post turd responses like noon read the op, we answers that in 2011 look it up, just don't root. Stuff like that I'm not saying go in to depth with a dude asking about something when he doesn't ever know the dos, don'ts and risk. I know I'm not the only one there's threads about it.

I agree 100%. The thing that irritates the F out of me is the few that run around here acting like they know it all... Then ***** and say search, then like each others post for being asshats to someone who asked a simple question that deserved a simple answer. I do occasionally call them out but it doesn't do any good.

Lol yeah one guy asked does any one know where I can find the inverted YouTube I'm new.. A did responded Noob you'll find it in a different section. Thank me for the help.
Then a civilized guy posted a link to the apk (which is simple to find for the average user) and said to the guy above something like I think this is what you meant to do but the xda douche in you did not allow it.

Because they think they are cool when in reality they are more noobish than the person they are replying to. There's a simple if you don't have anything good to say dont say nothing at all...but I guess their mamas didn't teach them that common sense.
For some reason they rather reply being a total dipsh*t than simply IGNORE the post. Don't get me wrong some of the replies Realy are deserving like the ones when the person constantly whines about their problem and want to b*tch aT the dev...most of the time noobs...such as my self just want simply answered because we've search and couldn't find the answers or we found an answers but it pertains to another device.
They probably didn't get much love from high school so wants to be the cool jogs here

From the moderator
To all in this thread.......
Most of the moderators would appreciate it if everyone were considerate, kind and patient........BUT......... that said,
Some do act with arrogance and inconsideration, ......report them we are here to assist.
Understand that the important responsibilities of a member is to Read enough that they can understand what to ask and how to ask it.
One of the overriding problems with XDA is we (the members) are not from one country, or one culture..so, many have to use Google translator or some other method to post in in English.
This creates an additional layer of misunderstanding, which in turn, makes things even more complicated.
Couple all of this with have a bunch of adolescent kids posting as well..... and now you have described XDA.......
So, with this explanation......it basically means to be patient, polite and considerate and when others begin to troll, or flame report them, this keeps these inconsiderates participation to a minimum
Unfortunately, this is thread is way to prone to escalating a flame-war....
Thank you for posting and "venting" off some of the common frustration we all feel from time to time....
...........THREAD CLOSED..........
