Tried to downgrade to stock. Help

I rooted and installed the leaked OTA. After hearing about the possible 2.2 I tried to downgrade the radio. Something messed up along the way and now I'm stuck with an incredible that is showing no internal memory (won't even let me save a picture), will not read an SD card and keeps rebooting when I remove the usb cable. I'm stuck in a real hard place. If anyone can assist me in restoring my phone and how to go about it, it would be appreciated. Also it is now showing my phone as an unknown device when I connect to the pc and I can not get into adb.

Can you reboot into recovery? (power off, then hold volume down while powering back on) then select recovery?
If you can get into clockworkmod recovery, we can get you back up and running.

do a hard reset. if that doesnt work, take it back to vzw and make up a story on how it got the way it is.
TIP: i dont think you can downgrade the radio.

I started following this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeuiURZZZds and after trying to run 'flash_image misc mtd0.img', it said I did not have enough memory so I just unplugged the phone and tried to reboot, but it brought me to the recovery console and it's the stock one. So the stock img was able to install. I don't even have clockwork now. I should have left it alone. I have a constant sd card icon with a ?.

just hard reset or ruu . if this doesnt work, then i think you bricked your radoio. do you have 3g?

Jd is right. Just ruu back to the leaked ota. If you can get to stock recovery you should be able to ruu. Once your back up and running we might be able to help you downgrade. First things first.

Just tried the hard reset it was a no go. I have 3G service and I made some calls to make sure it worked. After the hard reset it is still showing the sd card icon with ?. For the RUU do I need any drivers because the phone is showing up now as an unknown device.

Just give it a shot.

ruu is the way to go. your problem is more sever than hard reset fixijg.

P.s. If you follow the downgrade tutorial by "IncredibleDoes" you can use an sdcard adapter and put the card into your pc (since your phone usb drivers aren't working), copy the "pb31img" file over, then reboot back into hboot, and it will put you right back to the original stock in one step.

If you have a card reader on your pc, turn the phone off, put the card in the pc and make sure it's formatted properly. Then put the ruu file on the card. (Follow the instructions in the unroot sticky topic.) Then put card back in phone and boot into stock recovery. It should apply the update.

I'm still trying. It's not looking good. Hboot is still version .79 after I flashed the stock img. I'm probably going to have to call it a night for now though. I'll be back tomorrow to trouble shoot it some more. I'll write more after I try it again. Thanks for the help tonight!

Hboot is NOT going to downgrade....no matter what you do. The stock (pre-ota) rom will run fine with the newer hboot version.

Yes it will downgrade, as the ota leak is a newer version of .79. that is, if you follow the procedure right.
Also, yes you can downgrade the radio, in response to an earlier post.
If you got out of memory type messages running through that method, then you did it wrong. Maybe you tried it outside of clockwork? I haven't watched the video to do it, but seeing how I made the original post for it, I know it works.

Interesting! I wasn't aware of that breakthrough (hboot downgrade).
In that case, I suggest ruu'ing back to the leaked OTA (so that your USB and SD are both working again), then try following the instructions that adrynalyne referenced.

I ruu'ed the img. The phone starts up and works normally. Except it still shows the internal and SD card memory as unavailable and the usb restarting after removing the cable. I tried to reload the leaked OTA through recovery, but it gets an error saying the file is not on the SD card.

Mytouch 3G slide
- won't boot to OS or recovery - just mytouch splash screen
- never been rooted
- loads HBoot
- can access fastboot
- will not boot into recovery - just mytouch splash screen
- I went through steps to flash rom etc..
- can not get adb access because can't get to OS the enable usb debug etc..
- can't do anything through fastboot because remote not allowed - but it does communicate with phone
- esprimg.zip on sd card results in "older version in main error"
It feels like I've gone through every option possible to recover.
It seems like if I can get root then I can flash a new rom and be back in business? But I can't get root so I can't flash.
Any other ideas out there? Thanks!

Yes, 2 different ones. the .img is being read then checked then it comes up with the "older version" error. Everything I could find about that says I need to push a few files with adb first but I can't do that because I can't get to root since I can't boot to OS. Thanks.

Edit: Just kidding I lied don't download that ESRIMG.zip as it is the Engineering build and that is what you are probably using too and that is why it is giving you errors! So... Hold tight for a bit while I get everything together because I want this to work for you.
Bro I have a solution but it will set you back to stock. Okay so here it is, You are going to have to flash the champion build(Stock Rom for the slide) which can be found here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713507 , After you download that put it on the root of your SD card (Now I know what you are going to say "I can't access my SD card without being able to boot into the rom!" WRONG!!) get a MiniSD Card reader. Once you are able to put on the root of the SD card if not done already rename it to ESPRIMG.zip and then boot into HBOOT ( Hold Power + Volume Down, but you already know that don't you?) It should automatically check for the ESPRIMG.zip and it will load. Push Volume up to apply the update. DO NOT POWER DOWN OR REMOVE THE BATTERY AS IT WILL LEAVE YOU WITH A HUNDRED DOLLAR PAPER WEIGHT!!! When the update completes press volume up to reboot. You should now be able to boot, but now you don't have root so (Oh wait you never did! Why???)... NEW ROOT METHOD FTW!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896148 So once you complete the rooting be more careful, I cannot emphasize this enough! (BTW if you do root I recommend the CM7 Nightlies!!!) But if my foolproof tutorial that I wrote just for you doesn't work then your phone is F**ked up man! Call HTC for Warranty purposes cuz there is a problem! And if that works Well you are welcome!

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded the esprimg(2).zip, renamed it and put it on the root of SD. HBoot finds it and says loading. It goes throught the load then say s checking image. Then it says:
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
Vol Up - Yes
Vol Down - No
It doesn't matter what I do at that point. A reboot is a reboot. If I say no, it takes me back to HBoot.
Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks!

I have very similar issue and same result on scree, without USB debugging we cannot get adb to work, thus no rooting, thus no replacing roms.

Well, it appears it isn't possible to get to root without first being able to get into OS to enable usb debugging.
I gave up and bought a phone on ebay that was working except for a broken screen and replace it's lcd with mine.
I'm now back in business.

error code 170

OK i just got the evo 4g tried rooting it and failed during the bootloader check on the autorooter so i had to pull the battery and tried to run the ruu as stated in the autorooter tutorial and now i am getting error code 170 in the ruu i ran in compatibility i ran it also as an administrator and i have tried it in the recovery mode and still no connection tried adb devices and the serial number pops up but the ruu will not run because of the ec 170

You running windows? Try grabbing the htc sync drivers from their website. Error Code 170 is something like it cannot detect phone through usb or something.

i have tried this and still getting nothing i hold down the power and volume up rocker to go to hboot and try it from there and still get the error code...

is there a command to boot the phone so i can run the ruu ?

did you try going into fastboot from the bootloader screen to run the ruu?
adb to reboot into bootloader: adb reboot bootloader
otherwise you want to hold volume down and hit the power button while the phone is off

when i run the fastboot all it says is fast boot usb and then i run the ruu and it still gives me the error code 170

If you have the unrevoked drivers installed you have to uninstall then first. If not you made need to use a diff computer.
Your phone must show fastboot usb highlighted in red as well

You'll need to use the pc36img out of it to flash through the bootloader, those can be found in the autoroot thread as well

You're supposed to use volume down, volume up puts the phone in diagnostic mode and will start causing all kinds of trouble for you

Should, you will need it to show fastboot usb highlighted in red. Let it sit for a minute or so without the battery first though.

amazing just took three hours and a full computer overhaul lol but got it had to wipe computer took a nose dive with that and then got it back up and had to install the sdk all over again and finally got the drivers running after four tries and got the phone up and running with the ruu and power and volume DOWN lol thank you so much
much appreciated ive learned my lesson

Glad you were able to finally get it to work, were you able to root properly afterward? Everything needed for adb is included so the sdk is not necessary for the script, some have said installing it can interfere with it but I made it on a computer that has the sdk installed without any problems.

Now that I was finally able to root my phone using the autoroot method and a few kind folks answering my rookie questions, I seem to have become even more confused!!
What exactly did the autoroot put on my phone? Obviously it is a "sense-like" ROM??
When it created the Nand backup, what exactly did it back up-- how it was AFTER it booted and completed the root process for the first time? ie, before I re-installed a few apps and threw a few widgets up
Also, I've downloaded ROM manager. I've read all over the place that it makes flashing ROMs very easy. I guess that is why I'm asking what the autoroot method did? When I click on "Download ROM" in ROM manager, it says I must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed before I continue and to install it through the ROM manager.
Seems like I read something about Clockwork not being good (no 4g???)
If all this is the case, then is ROM manager completely useless.
I feel like I'm missing something here. So when you stop laughing at me for being a clueless rookie, could somebody kindly help here!?!?

clockwork works just fine for me when you in rom manager let it flash the latest version of clockwork for u and ull be just fine, the latest version backsup 4g. i been using it for months and flashed various roms and mods and never had one problem with it or using one of my nandroid backups. Just let rom manager refalsh the latest version. I wouldnt tell u nothing that isnt factual or i havent done

I can get my Evo into the bootloader, but it won't allow me to reboot (it goes to the HTC Evo screen, then the screen goes dark and vibrates 5 times), I'll pull the battery and go back into the bootloader, I'll try to go into recovery and its does the same as rebooting. If someone can advise me what I can do to fix this, I would appreciate it. I messed up when I flashed an old Radio (2.15.00.07.21) Wont do that ever again :-(!

I don't even recognize that as any radio I've seen for the Evo. The last one ended in. 11.19 or something like that. The one before that ended with. 01.09 I believe. I don't recognize the one you used. Are you positive it was an Evo radio...? Your situation doesn't sound good though. I would try running an RUU from fastboot, but if you did flash a non evo radio, your probably in trouble...someone correct me if im wrong and that is indeed an evo radio.

Download the 3.29 version, boot your phone into the bootloader, select fastboot, connect to your pc. Once it shows fastboot usb on the phone, run the ruu exe.

It is, I just checked; its rolled back 3 versions from the 11.19 version.

Can't he place a PGimg.zip on root of his SD card and fastboot from his phone to return him to stock s -off ?

He can place a PC36IMG form of the RUU and do it that way, but if he wanted s-on, he'd need to flash the unrevoked s-on tool from recovery, which he can't get to.

Try to basicaly reroot id try to hook to pc and run the hboot driver to fix the driver hopefully that will get you back into recovery. And id stick with flashin roms not radios its to risky. Did you back up your wimax keys?

My EVO can boot into bootloader, and it can get into recovery. Cool right? NO!!!
here's where the problem starts: I installed a corrupted ROMand of course, like every ROM, I wiped everything before flashing that one, and ended up not having a system to fall back on... And now the only thing I can do is get into the Bootloader and recovery.
The following issues I'm having, and the thins I have tried are:
1. I have tried putting the PC36IMG.ZIP at the root of the sd card.
- That didnt work though, and I figured that would only make sense, due to the fact that in recovery, it says "E: cant mount sd card"... So why/how would it work in bootloader?
2. It says "wrong image" when it tries to update the IMG file
3. I'm not a complete noob, I am willing to try ADB, I just dont know the commands to use :-( and IDK what to "push" or, even how to get the computer (PC, NOT a mac) to recognize the phone since it's... well, borked, I guess.

Make sure your sdcard is formatted FAT32.

Hey that sounds like it would work, but my question is...How do I get the phone detected on the pc, if the phone cant read the sd card? You get what I'm saying? Like, what buttons do I press to enable the USB to be picked up on the computer? Thnks a lot man.

That happened to me. You have to hold BOTH the Vol+ and Vol- Buttons at the same time until it starts vibrating. You also have to connect it to the computer in order to make it vibrate.
EDIT: You have to take out the battery while plugged in. Sorry for forgetting

When u put the PC36IMG.zip (named exactly like that) on your SD card, are u sure it wasn't named PC36IMG.zip.zip or any other variant of the correct name? Use a card adapter to put file in main folder of SD then put it back in phone. Then boot to bootloader n test. What recovery did u have installed when you tried to flash a radio? Clockwork will not flash radios

[Q] Boot Loop Help, even tried flashing back to stock Un-rooted

Initial Phone Details:
S-OFF
HBOOT .95
Virtuous 3.2 running since dawn of time,
4.08 radio (flashed 9 days ago)
CM 3.0.0.8
It Started:
In the middle of downloading Market updates … bootloop at the droid red circle
I tried:
- Remove battery, wait five min ... bootloop at red circle
- Nandroid restore of recent backup … “failed to format /data” (three attempts)
- Wipe data/factory reset, clear cache, clear dalvik, clear battery stats … failed nandroid (twice)
- Flash Virtuous (after full clears) … bootloop at red circle
- Flash Skyraider (after full clears) … bootloop at twirling Skyraider logo (twice)
- Flash stock-rooted rom (after full clears) … bootloop after red circle (twice, once with original SD card, another with a different card, freshly formated FAT32 and only the ROM image)
- Flash stock-UNrooted 3.21.605.1 rom (after full clears) … bootloop after “DROOOID” (two times)
Now of course I’m sitting at S-OFF, Stock Unrooted NOV ROM, 7.28 radio and stock recovery. I could still get into Recovery before I flashed unrooted (obviously to need to reroot again when I get home from work). I can still get to HBOOT. By every measure I have I should be able to get out of this situation sans-brickage, but I’ve exhausted my toolbox.
Well Ok I suppose I haven’t tried an RUU flash yet nor going back to S-ON but really are those even likely to make a dent?
What do I try now?

Try everything. If the RUU is the only thing left then do that. And S-ON. I would have done that before flashing the stock unrooted. I don't know if these will work, just giving my 2¢. Hope you figure this out.

Were your nand backups made with 3x clockwork? Or a 2.5 version?

3.0.0.8 ... took the phone to verizon, they are now sending me a replacement.

Would love to know what phone they send you for the refurbished one

What happened was somehow you corrupted your data partition so in turn you could not format data which caused the bootloops.... coulda fixed it 2 ways the hard way is using parted through adb and the easy way would be just to flash an RUU and reroot.... but I guess getting a new phone works to

I'm listening.
The phone is still here until I send one of them back and my new phone arrives tomorrow.
So let me add some more info. I am now unrooted with S-OFF. I can't boot and despite my best attempts I can't find how to re-root without a fully booted phone. When I try to use unrevoked in hboot/fastboot it says it is still waiting for the phone to connect. I assume this is becaues according to the instruction I need to be in USB debug mode, something I can't do if I can't boot to the OS.
I have the hboot drivers installed in Win7 and show the phone in device manager as "Android Bootloader Interface" I tried adb and I couldn't seem to connect to the phone while in hboot/fastboot. But I'm going to try a few other things after I post this ...
I'd love to get this phone up and running just in case the new phone is SLCD and I decide I don't like the SLCD. My current phone is AMOLED.
So how do I flash RUU. That was what I was going to try to do but couldn't find a way to do it.

PS oh yeah and I tried running HTC Sync to install the RUU file that way and HTC Synch doesn't see my phone in bootload/fastboot which isn't much of a surprise.

any updates to this my phones basically in the same position. However ive tried doing the ruu.exe and ruu in pb13img.zip update and those didnt work now im looking for instructions as how to get adb to see my device to try the parted portion to see if that solves my issue.
