Has anyone found a case that works with the Car Mount after removing the insert? I have the cover/holster combo that verizon sells and I was originally dissapointed to find that it would not fit in the mount, I later discovered that there is an insert that you can remove from the mount that allows you to put the phone in with a case on. However there is a tab that sticks up when you remove the insert that does not allow you to insert the phone with the current case i have.
I was wondering about this too. I went in to a Verizon store and the reps didn't even know that there was a removable insert lol! There's even instructions in the packaging telling you how to remove the insert so that the X can be mounted with a case.

Soft plastic- nope

after seeing this thread I went to moto's droid x forum and posted a question regarding this.
only 1 reply to my thread so far, but they said a moto approved case for the phone should be released in a couple months.
here's a link to the thread.
https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/33636
EDIT: after I posted this thread, I found a forum mod reply to this issue over on moto's site. He says it doesn't look like motorola will be making a case afterall, and leaving it up to 3rd parties.

Good idea, what did you use for the job? Did it affect the finish or is it not that noticeable? I might give that a try.

I used a little sharp razor and a file. Doesn't look perfect, but isn't too bad. It takes a few minutes, but it is worth it so I don't have to keep on taking the cover off.

im looking for a good case to! let me kno if u find a good one...
My girlfriend has the case with the detachable plate that goes onto your belt. It's the one labeled "shell/holster combo" on VZW's site.
I used a sanding bit and my dremel to shave off that little nub, but it wasn't enough. I ended up sanding down the lower portion where the back/side of the phone rests. Her car isn't here right now or I'd snap a picture. It looks like Freddie Krueger without the X in it, but it looks fine once you mount it.
Here's an approximation of what I had to dremel. Sorry, my account is too new, so I can't post embedded links, but if you put this together you will see the pic:

I know that this topic has been discussed before so sorry for a repeat thread but has anyone discovered a bumper case yet for our phone or perhaps tried out a case for a different phone that fits ours?
Perhaps if we get enough people we can contact sgp about making their neo hybrid ex case for the e4gt..

Look on ebay or google it. their are literally thousands of different bumpers for the e4gt

Ebay does in fact have bumper cases, but none with an open back.
Modifying (cutting out the back) the existing ones from what I understand makes the surrounding edges loose.
their are a bunch on ebay that do have the back cut out cant remember who the seller/manufacturer is though. I think this is one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Smoke-Black...ccessories&hash=item35b7e3ef5a#ht_4330wt_1185

I've got three of these (there as cheap as 3.50 shipped if you dig), the green/clear, black/clear and a frost/frost. I've got a white/clear on the way for my white ET4G. I like them personally. Not exactly like the iPhone bumper cases but close enough.
Pictures speak volumes. Can take more if wanted/needed of the other colors.

Seems fine to me, then again I've only had my ET4G since 1/8 and I came from an Evo with a tumor (extended battery) so ANYTHING would seem thin to me.

I'm at work which blocks ebay links but most of the links in this thread point to a version of the case I have. When I get home later (or my notebook at lunch) I can post a link to the exact auction for my green case.
So is that the one with the clear back? If so you can't even tell, it looks like it has an open back.

It is the one with the clear back. I'll get a picture of it off the phone to hopefully capture better how clear it is. In person you can tell its there but IMHO it looks very nice and clean.
Here is a link to the green bumper case I have pictured.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEON-GREEN-...NG-EPIC-4G-TOUCH-D710-PROTECTOR-/400250640556
The attached hopefully gives a better idea of how "clear" the back plastic is. I personally like the added protection for the camera went setting the phone down on a table.
Can you take pictures of the sides please I want to see how it covers the volume and power buttons.
Hope these help, kind of hard to get decent pictures that close without a macro lens.
I should mention that I personally have no trouble with button usage on this case. Though truth be told I've had this type of case on my phone since I walked out of the Sprint store with it.

I honestly have no idea.
Totally taking a guess I FEEL it would loose quite a bit of integrity. While the back is sturdy I can bend it if pushed hard enough. The TPU/Gel/Candy 'bumper' i feel wouldn't have anything to pull it back together and would likely loose shape over time. Then again that whole last bit is my opinion and me more or less talking out my ass. For about or less than 4 bucks shipped I'd say its worth ordering one and giving it a shot if you're really curious about it.
Good luck!

I'm trying to locate a wallet case for my Note that has a standard Samsung back case, not a full backside with a plastic cradle to hold the phone. Those cases makes it hard to get the stylus out. I also looked for something like this, but found nothing. It's either a choice of a replacement back panel with plain flip cover, or a credit card wallet with a cradle.
The only alternative might be to adapt one with a replacement back panel, perhaps by fixing some credit card sleeves to inside of the cover. The hinge might not allow enough extra play for this though.
you can actually ask your local shoe repairshop if he can make one from the one you have. I think he can. Its a question of adding leather on the front so it still fits, an opening for bills and a series of slots to hold cards.
Do note there are reports of cards pressing on screen that could damage/leave prints on screen and on screen protector.
my experience not in making but in use is that the original flap breaks after a while. Not sure, but whennit does, it looks like cupboard lmao

As I suspected then. Quite vexing. Seems like such a winning construction. Keep it thin enough for your pocket, yet add the function off s wallet. Outside cards and cash everything from my old wallet is now in my Note.

I've been searching high and low for a non-generic car mount/dock and I think I might have found something that will work. I just ordered the Motorola Atrix HD dock from amazon.
(link blocked)
Dimensions seem right..
Atrix; 5.26 x 2.75 x .33
Sprint Optimus G 5.19 x 2.71 x .33
I'll report back in two days when it gets here.
Hopes this helps....has anyone else found anything else that will work?
I have the 2011 model of the Sprint Universal Mount. With the Otterbox, this thing BARELY fits. But it still works very nicely
2012 model link is here
Yeah....saw that, and looked at a number of the "universal" mounts, but really wanted something that I could truly "dock" my phone into. I'm in and out of my car a lot during the day and don't want to hassle with plugging in the power cord each and every time. Thanks for the input.
NEGATIVE on the MOTOROLA ATRIX HD case....usb doesn't line up. darn.
Tetrax
Is anybody using any of the Tetrax mounts with the LGOG? (The system is preventing me from posting the hyperlink to the Tetrax site here, but it is tetrax.com.) I love their simplicity but am not sure I want to paste a disk to the back of my phone. If you have done this, can you comment on how you like it? Thanks.
Here is a good looking car mount for the LGOG.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LG-OPTIMUS-...305639?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item1c2e0729a7
If you don't need to have the phone charger automatically plugged in, I highly recommend this mount. You've never known convenience until you've put the phone in and take it off with only one hand :fingers-crossed:. Not to mention the it will stick to your car's dash (hard plastic parts preferred, as it will leave an indentation on soft plastic)

Yes I am using it right now, with this case, it fits fine with just a little bit of wiggle room to spare. For sure the Galaxy Note one will fit if you plan on getting a thick case like otterbox, but it might be too wide if you decided to go without a case?

That's what I had previously with my old phone. Unfortunately it doesn't work with the OG with case on. Plus the arm is too long which cause a lot of vibration when driving.
Clingo
I have the clingo and it works great with the otter commuter case
Had the Clingo too, bought it when it first came out. It worked well at the beginning, but after a few months in the summer heat (Southern California) the gel starts to degrade and start to leave a sticky residue on the back of my phone case. Got a replacement gel pad from Clingo, same thing happen by the next summer.
Yes, I've tried a lot of car mount options. Still looking for the perfect one (that doesn't cost something ridiculous like $80)
Here is the best I've found...
Brackretron
Takes some mounting and such, but definitely the best finished product...
ProClip Universal
I'm thinking of ordering one from ProClipUSA. [sorry, I'm too nube to be allowed to post a link...] In the past I've used their mounts for my old Garmin Nuvi and later for my HTC EVO 4G (the WiMax model).
Unlike those mounts, which were excellent and solid as hell, the two available are not full custom for the Optimus. And I really loved that my EVO's mount also provided power when it was docked. I rarely bothered explicitly wall charging the EVO as it always got topped off during the office commutes.
Still... with a few tweaks for the Optimus' dimensions it might be enough for a secure mount. For long trips it looks like I should be able to power it with the car 12V charger from the bottom opening.
This is what I have and it is the best mount I have ever used. Iotte easy flex 2

I was also looking for a minimalistic mount for my phone. I hate those suction cup and dashboard mounts so I got the tetrax xway and I love it. It mounts nicely on my dash near and blends into my stereo. Having the little metal nipple on my phone is a bit annoying but the convenience of quickly and securely attaching my phone to my car is worth it.

I've been using these magnet mounts in my car for a couple years. They have worked great on:
HTC Wildfire
Optimus 2X
Galaxy S3
Navigon SATNAV (much heavier than a smartphone)
Walkman MP3 Player
Anything with metal in it like a pen!
Nothing has ever fallen off even over potholes and rough country tracks. All wifi 3g bluetooth are unaffected but cant verify NFC as I dont use it.
The only glitch I spotted was that the orientation sensor on the wildfire didnt respond (if I turned the phone from portrait to landscape whilst attached it wouldnt rotate the screen), but the other phones didnt have that problem.
I love it. Even though my magnet is larger (about the size of a 50p), its discreet and effective. I would recommend to anyone.
I have always used the stick on ones not the clip on, but as long as they clip ok to your vent and you dont blast hot air directly to the phone it should be ok.
I use their X-Way model as part of my near perfect car mount solution.
So obviously, it all starts with the Tetrax X-Way. I mounted that directly to one of the vents in the middle of my car. It does block the vest quite a bit, but it's the perfect spot for me and doesn't involve any adhesive on my dash. At first, I tried attaching one of the little nipple things to the back of my phone directly. While this worked, it drove me nuts that I couldn't lay my phone flat on a table anymore. This became a problem when I accidentally bumped my S3 while it was sitting on a table and since there was less friction now, the thing went flying. So not good.
My solution was to pick up a dirt cheep slim case. That's how I ended up with the elago G5 Slim Fit Case. With the nipple attached to that, I could just slip my phone in/out of that and leave the case sitting in my arm rest compartment when not in use. Now I had the awesome form factor of my S3 and the ability to mount. So the next issue was the connection.
Like almost everyone else, I was using the cigarette lighter along with a curly charging cord that was 5x longer than it needed to be. Worse, the giant power wart that was now sticking out of my dash. Not only was this ugly, it was a pain in the but to store. What I really wanted to use was a small USB cable, 6-8 inches long, that could fit with my new case in my arm rest and a way to ditch the giant dash wart. The cable is easy enough to find, but how do I plug it in? With the Griffin Powerjolt Dual! While there are a bunch of USB port adaptors floating aorund, this was the first I found that would actually sit flush against the dash. This means I wouldn't have any stupid wart thing to deal with, the look of my dash wouldn't be thrown off, and since I don't smoke, I could just leave it in full time.
The big win in all of this is two fold. First, I could ditch the bulky plastic car mount garbage for a few thin and easy to store version. Second, I did the same thing (but with a different case) for my wife's Galaxy Nexus. Now we can both use the same mount depending on who's driving (or if we pick up a second X-Way, we can both charge and mount at the same time thanks to the dual ports on the Powerjolt) and save even more room in the car since we didn't need two giant device specific car mounts. The other minor bonus here is that the X-Way came with enough of those attachment nipples that I should be able to roll along for a few years using the same mounting system across multiple new devices.

My friend has this solution for his BB and loves it. I wasn't willing to pay the price the local Best Buy wanted. I found a different magnet system at my local Bell store.
Something similar to this. I stuck the large magnet to my dash and the other magnet is on my case. I've had zero issues with NFC. Bash cash mount kit imo.
Hoping to receive mine soon! Anyone else using it and has more thoughts to share?

So I got the vent mount version and it works great in my car. In my truck the clip does not fit the vent. I placed the circle towards the top of the phone like it says and it hangs in portrait. In the video it shows it going between portrait and landscape, it doesn't do that. You get one orientation unless you put the connector in the middle I would guess. Other than that it is perfect.

It's just the way the design is I think, some possibly looser then others. Stick a bit of card or paper down the sides and when you get the perfect side you could glue it?? Or exchange it and see if the new one fits better

Ya, I noticed the same thing. It's primarily held in with the power cable, it doesn't really snap into the dock like most I've used. I don't see any real problem, though, since I don't use the dock w/out the power cable.
How about with a skin on? Will it fit the car dock snugly?
I don't think I will even use mine. My CD Mount Dock works a lot better. I was very disappointed.
Try going out and getting a thin piece of that "sticky" shelving liner and put a small piece on the end of the dock piece that meets the middle of the HTC One while its docked. That probably sounds better in my head than in reality though, but hey, it will grip the phone a little so its not loose and plus you won't have to keep on puting something inside the dock each time you dock the One, Give it a try, or even some velcro, (the soft side) depending on the loose gap you got going on, either one should work
can I ask, can you take screenshots of the car dock app and post here? I have yet to see anything on the car mode app that HTC is using in Sense 5. I seen the one for Sense 4 (loved it) I wish I could find something on it besides the single screenshot thats being used on the box of the car kit

Hello, I received my T-Mobile HTC One yesterday and the car dock does not fit very tight. I would like some feedback from others who have it. Mine is so loose that the phone will fall out if you turn it sideways and take a corner too fast.
I would have thought it would fit snug at least..

You can add whatever app shortcut you want to the car dock app
Its actually pretty damn good, even the Speak thing is good, it actually uses the microphone in my car meaning the music mutes and i can give commands while driving with wind noise ect.
Apparently the voice for car mode uses nuance so it should be great

So what about apps that are not horizontal does it force to vertical or can it be turned to vertical without the phone coming off?

I'm getting ready to go out of town and don't have time to do a picture right now. But the mount is made for vertical position of the phone only in my opinion and that is all they show in the instructions. I have not used it yet with the charger so I will have to see how that does. But I would be scared the phone would come out in horizontal mode. I may look into some of the suggestions as a fix.
Thanks

Got mine today and tested in both portrait and landscape and the charger is the holding mechanism! It doesn't slip out when the charger is in and dock mode works perfectly. I love this phone for car mode way more then my old gnexus!
