I found you can boot into safe mode by holding the trackpad during the entire boot sequance

How do you know you're in safe mode? I tried it a few times and it didn't look any different than my normal homescreen.

In the bottom left hand corner of the screen it said safe mode in a box
oo didnt know there was a safe mode lol
every android device has some sort of safe mode, and you can get into them differently depending on the device.. it basically restricts the options in running operation
This really is more of a general thread than a development one
do you really need a safe mode when you basically flash a new ROM twice a week???

Hello
dose any one know what safemode is on desire. To start it you need to reboot you phone and on the boot animation you need to spam the track ball until the boot animation reboot and then spam meny key until the phone start.
P.S is a gray zone and text safe mode in it when it start in safe mode.
the only thing I noticed was the A2SD wasn't working
I'd imagine it's something like regular recovery mode on Linux. But if it's anything like that it should have full root permissions.

Actually, you just need to power up your phone whilst holding down menu, and keep it held down until the phone has fully booted.
When in safe mode, the phone will not run any 3rd party applications or widgets - so, if you've installed an app that is causing problems (e.g. reboots on boot up), you can boot up in safe mode and uninstall it.

Dave

I have sprint Galaxy s3 with jelly bean rooted. On new years eve I installed a 3rd party app from the market to see if I could get a hot spot. don't even remember the name of the app. I ran it and it locked my phone up. I pulled the battery and when it rebooted it was in safe mode. In safe mode I uninstalled the program but it did not help me at all. Any time I reboot it goes right to safe mode. I have tried several times to get to download mode and recovery mode and have not been able to reach either. The phone works fine in safe mode I could even do a factory reset and with no problem the phone resets and goes right back to safe mode when it boots up to the new factory set up. No 3rd party apps are seen and no download mode or recovery mode can be obtained in the usual ways we use to boot to them. I am stumped any ideas from anyone.
Try use kies!
Hi. You can try this method.
1- get or make a usb jig
0r
2- turn off your s2. Pull the batt out for 10 sec and press on button w/out inserting the batt.
After doing that, try to boot into download mode. Sometimes yhe phone need some rest, juat pull out the batt for 5-10min and retry. I suggest that you try to enter recovery mode before heading to download mode..

it always gets as far as the warning screen when going to download mode. when pressing volume up or down nothing happens. I have to long press start key or pull battery to get it out of the warning screen

Yeah, i'm at a loss, was gonna say if you can get into DL mode, then could odin to sock. I'm not sure of any other way to get around it and force that puppy to boot back into normal land.
Try this.. Power off phone... Restart, once you see Samsung logo, Press the Menu capacitive button repeatedly. (read this is how to get into safemode) maybe it'll work to reboot you OUT of safe mode. (Note i'm just searching the web to see if i can find anything) And i did pull that for a i9300 International, but it may work for this one as well.. (just a shot)
Seen another with similar issue, Pull SD and battery for 10 min.. When rebooted, went back to normal. Again these are all shots in the dark..

You have the root, why not use it instead of sudo-randomly smashing keys *Grin* ? If you don't have a Terminal app install one of those, su to root (answer to allow root when Superuser/SuperSu asks you) then run "reboot recovery". When/If recovery comes up wipe Cache, Dalvik-Cache, fix permissions and so forth, then try to restart into the system and see if "Safe Mode" crap persist.
I had my phone come up in Safe Mode one time, can't remember what I played with to even trigger it though. If this doesn't work, you can use something like Rom Toolbox Pro, or another fun tool to wipe the caches while the phone is up in Safe Mode.

"No 3rd party apps are seen" Wouldn't Terminal be apart of this one? If so then he couldn't get into it. Just my guess. and those methods i posted were from others with same issue. Def worth a try. Never heard of Safe Mode on these till now Lol..
Are u sure none of your keys are stuck? Mine would do that if my case was holding in one of the keys IE volume key or power button

That is the one thing that has me questioning. The volume button seems to move freely however; I have tried volume button when booted up in safe mode and the volume down does not move. the volume up moved the volume control up. although when pressing vol. down when trying to go do download mode it boots to download warning screen. unless it is stuck on internally. I don't know, cause the button moves freely.
Mine was in safe mode once. All I did is reboot it and mine went away.

Thanks this d root is no longerdid help me make my decision . I am taking the phone to sprint store. by downloading and using keys it seems that the software does not cause my problem. I hooked up to kies and did a complete firmware upgrade. Although there is no upgrade it still reloaded jellybean. It did a complete restore though and root is no longer present. Super user is gone. But I still have the same safe mode issues. I am guessing that this is a hardware problem probably the volume key. I feel ok with taking it to sprint since root is gone. who knows maybe i'll get a new one. Thanks to all who helped I surely appreciate it.

no not sure how to do that or if I would have been able too because of safe mode limitations.
I can`t get the phone in recovery mode.
Here is the issue:
Running Jedi mind trick rom three weeks. One day the phone restarted and got stuck in the boot screen.
The phone restarted and eventually keeps vibrating without display
After trying many times i did got in recovery mode so i could install the rom again (using darkside super wipe and then the rom). After one day it crashed again and again i installed an different rom which also crashed after several hours.
Now i can`t even get to download mode, Is this hardware related or do i need to use an usb jig to get this working again?
Does your phone screen turn on and at least show the Samsung logo? If not, and you said button combo presses do not work using a USB Jig will be your way to go to get back in to download mode.
By the way, did you flash the correct ROMs specifically for our phones? You shouldn't have experienced and crashes. Also, for the vibrating issue without the display, it had been mentioned that it could also be due to a stuck/dirty power button. If you can try, clean up around it.

Yes it does show the samsung logo at starting up but after that it turns off with 1-2 seconds vibrating intervals.
I already cleaned the power button but without any satisfaction.
I did dropped the phone monday but not from a great heigth.
estimated: 1mtr above ground
Yes i did. I used the guides from galaxy2root.com
Well, if you were able to use a USB Jig to get into 'Download mode', get a stock ROM from here and flash it through Odin which is also included in the link. Good luck!
I just flashed the latest version of this rom and now my phone just goes black after booting past the Samsung Galaxy s3 screen. Is there a way to get back to a previous back up or switch to a different rom? I'm pretty sure i just bricked my phone. I've tried going back to recovery and download mode which both do nothing. Please help. I double checked the rom and it wasnt any of the ones that say VZW on it so I'd assume i used the right rom.
I could be wrong but if you can't get into recovery or download mode it sounds like your bricked. Are you sure your trying to get into recovery/download mode the right way? From my understanding it is kind of hard to brick this phone.

Yea I even looked it up. I noticed something weird when i was leaving recovery mode and it asked if i wanted to disable recovery mode and I clicked back and it restarted. I dont know if its cause its late and I'm tired but im 100% sure that I didn't select to disable it and I don't even know why thats an option!

this post should be in the Q&A for future reference, just for next time so we can save our mod's a little bit of work
your soft bricked man, if your seeing samsung logo you CAN get into download mode at the very least, take a deep breath and relax. I assure you your phone is not hard bricked. make sure your doing it right and focus.
for recovery mode
turn your phone off completely
hold home and volume up then press and hold power, AS SOON as you see the samsung logo and the blue text at the top, let go of everything (you have to be quick)
for download mode
turn your phone off completely
do this, hold home and volume down then press and hold power, AS SOON as you see the samsung logo and the blue text at the top, let go of everything (again, be quick and then follow the instructions on screen)
try recovery a few times, I'm sure you will get it

Thanks. I went on the Wiki and found this same info but I was going into recovery holding the up and down volume buttons instead of the up and home. Thanks for the help guys got the rom working and its working great.
So I had root and Xposed working fine. I decided to do some more theming, and put on Layers. I tried applying the Inversion UI layer to my phone, dialer, and contacts and used the built in reboot option only to have my phone boot into safe mode. I tried manually rebooting and it's still safe mode. I tried clearing data and uninstalling Layers and Inversion UI, but still safe mode. Anything I can do? I can't seem to get the boot menu to come up to boot into recovery either, though I don't think I ever could. I've also tried the notification that lets me tap to turn off safe mode, but it still boots into safe mode. Theoretically I could just reflash it, but was hoping there was a simpler option to try first. Really wish LG allowed unlocking the bootloader on US versions so I could use nandroid...
I think therez a special way to leave safe mode
Nm i just double checked says u should jst have to reboot.

I had tried rebooting multiple times. The special way to leave safe mode exists, clicking the notification, but it would boot into safe mode again. Oddly enough, it stayed in safe mode even after I flashed a stock kdz, but after doing that a second time I was able to leave safe mode by clicking the notification.
Thats weird
