This is a first for me. I was on the phone and I wanted to give my girlfriend driving directions around the Orlando Area. While on the phone I was unable to connect to 3G. This is the first time noticed this.
I had heard that this was the case on all other networks but Tmobile, and since I have recently come over from Tmobile (because of the EVO) it never even dawned on me. Is this really a limitation and have we managed a work around? This was very annoying, because I couldn't talk and give directions at the same time.
I did a search on the forums here, but no dice. Any help?
tmobile and att ( and any GSM network) can talk and use data.
cdma such as sprint and verizon can not talk and use data.
this is a limitation of the cdma network.
you can talk and use 4G tho, if your in a 4g area.
Talk uses CDMA and take up the 3g signal, so no 3g data.
You can use data on wifi or on 4g as those are different radios.
Thanks for the info. Kinda disappointing, but 4g is supposed to be here this summer. Thanks though for the quick answers.

was wondering if the epic 4g could be used in canada on the bell or rogers(or actually any carrier for that matter)? does sprint sell the cellphone unlocked?
better yet, has an international version(that will work in canada) been released/announced?
from what I know, bell has a CDMA network, but i've never used a phone without a sim card before and i'm honestly not sure how it works.
as a last note, i honestly don't care about the 4g capabilities, 3g is enough for my needs.
I thought all of canada was gsm. I may be mistaken. I know rodgers is. If I an right the answer is no

I have one on virgin (CDMA in manitoba), but am having a heck of a time getting data working...
anyone have any thoughts on this?
I won't discuss how I got it working (Against board rules) but I just wanted to know if anyone know of a fix for my data. I flashed the PRL to a bell PRL, set the APN via an APN app (since the option is blocked out normally).
I also tried the Epic 4g on boost tutorial, but it didn't give me any hex info (presumably because I was taking info from a blackberry)
Thanks if anyone can help
I'm 99.9 percent sure 1xRTT (~153kbit/sec) is the best you'll get in Canada -- if that -- with an American CDMA-only phone. AFAIK, all of Canada's CDMA carriers deployed UMTS instead of EV-DO.
Canada's mobile phones are slightly exotic, because Telus & Bell have legacy CDMA voice, but 3G-GSM for data. I think 2-3 years ago, you could use an imported European 3G gsm phone, but ONLY in 3G UMTS mode -- they couldn't "fall back" to classic TDMA-based GSM, because the network *itself* didn't support it (yet). Official Telus phones literally used CDMA for voice, but UMTS for data. However, I'm pretty sure you can NOW fall back to legacy
GSM, even on Telus (I guess they had to wait until enough customers had GSM phones to repurpose a chunk of 1900 spectrum that was formerly used exclusively for CDMA, or maybe they just roam on Rogers or Bell for GSM voice).

Well I'm on virgin mobile which has EVDO coverage on bell's network here in manitoba. I know this because I ported this phone from an EVDO blackberry (it was a pain in the ass). Also MTS still uses EVDO here as well, but that's going to be short lived as they are in a partnership with Rogers to cover the province with HSPA+. That said there will still be support for legacy devices on their existing towers.
But either way I have no data connection at all. I only show the bars for signal (no other symbols), but I flashed the PRL so it's at least not showing up as roaming anymore lol. I'm also getting the stupid sprint activation message every time I boot, and Error 67 authentication error pops up every once in a while.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?
Try reading the Epic on boost threads.
I tried it, but it didn't work, but perhaps I will post my issue and someone will have a solution
did you ever getting working?

Ok,when I visit my family in area code 27970 and 27962 my phone roams on US cellular's crappy network. I'm always use to seeing 1x and about 1-2 bars when I roam down here. The internet is basically useless with the slow speeds. Unusually the last 2-3 days I've been able to get 3g from somewhere. I'm guessing Verizon bc they've just built a new Verizon store in town. Unfortunately, I can't get it to return bk to 3g anymore. idky ( on miui btw)
. My questions are:
1. Is there a way for me to specify using Verizon's towers over US Cellulars?
2. What would be the cause of the random 3g speeds?
3.would roaming on us cellular ever give me a 3g signal?
I'm just clueless as to why I got 3g speeds for a couple of days and now all of a sudden it stops. I tried flashing bk to a sense rom (synergy) updating prl and profile but it still says 1x. I want my mofo 3g.
1. Yes, use qpst (not providing directions) to flash verizon PRL file.
2. ****ty signal, and other factors.
3. No.
Thanks for the responses. Im still confused bc The nearest sprint service/tower is probaly an hour away. And ive always roamed while here. Now I can't get it bk
I know there's loads of questions and threads about T-Mobile on a S3 but I've been dealing with this issue ever since my girlfriend gave me her old AT&T S3. I signed up on here just now because I couldn't stand trying to figure it out myself anymore.
I've also looked at all those threads and for some reason they all seem to have an opposite issue of what I have. To my understanding, areas that aren't re-farmed will give you 4g LTE and 2g (edge) but no 3g correct?
I get the opposite of that, I get only HSPA+, HSPA, rarely 2g and never LTE. The part I don't understand is why I don't get LTE. My Brother is able to get LTE with his T-Mobile LG G2 so LTE coverage should be fine in my area.
I ended up finding out that T-Mobile requires a newer sim card to work with LTE and I was using an extremely old one that I got when smartphones basically just came out. (I cut it into micro shape) Today I just received my new sim in the mail, popped it in and it showed LTE with 4 bars but I couldn't do anything because I haven't activated it yet. Once I got it activated it went back to HSPA+.
The weird part about this is that if I restart my phone sometimes it'll show LTE for a couple seconds but it'll say "no service" then proceed to go back to H+.
I'd like to at least know someone else gets the same thing because it's been driving me crazy and it seems like I'm the only one having this issue. I've literally been trying to get LTE on this phone for about a year now.
If someone can try helping that'd be cool, thanks
Hey guys, I asked awhile back about switching to ST and I've done it. I finally got data working by using a TMO SIM, but I can only get EDGE, no more, no less. Even in relatively large cities in my area that have TMO towers, I only get EDGE. My question is, is there anything I can do to get better data?
I have Verizon LG G4 on Straight Talk Verizon Towers and everything works great! Not sure what your issue is. Only issue I see is when I make a phone call, it drops to 1x always

That's because you're not using Advanced Calling (VoLTE). On Verizon's network, calls always drop to 1X unless you're using Advanced Calling. In the past, most Verizon phones didn't indicate this. They would continue to show whatever data connection the phone had (3G, 4G) even though the call was being done over 1X. Several recent Verizon devices have been more honest about which networks are actually in use, including the G4.
So, what you're experiencing isn't an issue. It's what should be happening.

That's because you're using a Verizon ST SIM, the OP is using a T-Mobile ST SIM. Also, you need to enable Advanced Calling on your account and your phone to use voice and data at the same time over LTE.
To the OP, I have the same problem. When I put my T-Mobile SIM in my VS986 I only get 2G at home, while LTE only works in the older LTE sites that are using band 4 primarily. Most 2G > LTE sites are using band 2, which according to the Verizon spec page this phone supports, but it must not be active as it doesn't work. I've been looking at ways to enable band 2 without any success yet.
To the OP, you added the APN configs for Straight Talk T-Mobile, correct?

I just opened a thread asking about VS986 wcdma bands availability. I was reading LG specs and they say this phone has no 3g, just 2g and LTE. Reading in many other web pages they say this phone has all 4 wcdma bands available. Maybe they are software locked?
I think, I made a mistake buying this phone to be used in a GSM network. Have you checked with Verizon/Tmo rep?

What are your LTE speeds like? I thought about making the switch but then I read that Verizon limits LTE speeds on ST to 5MBPS...Is that true? As it is my 3g+ speeds end up being faster than that most of the time.

I'm getting better than 5Mbps, but definitely shaped/limited bandwidth. If you actually use 10Mbps+ regularly, keep shopping.
Hello. I have been having some issues with networking on my LG G4. It is supposed to be unlocked, as I verified with Verizon, so I was hoping to be able to get off the Verizon towers. I am currently on Verizon's prepaid plan because I felt like it was a good deal, but in the past two or three months my phone is not working reliably. I had no issues with it before then but I haven't had it long, and even after talking to multiple people from Verizon, they have not been able to fix the service errors. Everyone else around me that I've talked to do not use the prepaid plan so I can't get advice from them.
I am an avid Pokemon GO player, and it pretty much needs a consistent internet. When I am walking through my town, I will hit a lot of areas where my network will jump from 4g LTE to 3g, sometimes to 1x. This stalls out whatever I am in the middle of doing. I've also tested to make sure it is affecting the browser, etc, and sure enough it causes it to time out. I also have constant call drops or the flat out inability to send or receive texts or calls. I have to leave my phone on speaker and sit it in one specific spot in my house for example to be able to talk on it. There are quite a few spots in my town where I get no internet access at all. My father has a Samsung Galaxy S5 that he just bought from Straight Talk, and it doesn't have any issues like my is having. His shows the Verizon logo when the phone starts, but I'm not sure that means it is using Verizon's towers.
What I am really curious about is if I can use Straight Talk, or anyone else really, to get better service. I know when I tried to talk to Straight Talk, they could not guarantee me any service details, so it was not helpful. I had asked them if there was a way to get my phone on straight talk using towers that aren't specifically the ones I am on now, but they had no information on that. After talking to a few of those representatives I tried to get up with AT&T about it, and they also could not give me any insight. I live in a pretty rural town. If the information helps I live in Columbia, North Carolina. If there is anyone that can offer advice I'd really appreciate it. Its gotten to the point where I am thinking about flat out replacing the phone and I haven't even had it 6 months yet. Thank you.

dont know about the g4 but my history with verizon phones on att is long most of the ones i have had do not support verizonz lte band
2g and 3g only google the specs on both models look in the lte bands and see if they are compatible just because one says for say 800mhrtz in 3g dosnt meant if the others 800mhrtz lte will see it both have to use the same 3g and lte bands
