Gimp/Photoshop/Conduits Pocket Artist WM6/ app? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any app out for android that will allow one to open/create .psd files on the phone and view layers? The only thing that I missed about my 6700 6800 6900 touch pro and touch pro2 is the ability of editing .psd's in the go with conduits pocket artist. I loved my hero and now evo but wish there was a to even open .psd on the go. (I'm work for a graphic design company, hence the necessity of being able to at least view .psd that are sent via email on the go)

Hello,
I've been asking myself the same question and googling now for an answer, I've come across your post.
Shame on this amazing forum that nobody has answered you yet...
What I know from my own experience, is that there is Photoshop Express for Android but it's really potatic... You can just modify brightness and some basic stuff of your images, but you can't draw, can't apply any brushes and no top-notch features...
I'm considering the Android platform, but currently on Diamond with WM 6.1 I'm really satisfied with the serious applications out there...
There is Blender for Windows Mobile !!
Pocket Artist is a really amazing piece of software, with which you can even use Photoshop brushes!!
And there is a lot of mathematical and scientific software for WM, not sure whether all this is available for Android too...
I hate windows as an OS both on a PC and on a phone, but the software available for that platform... Really amazing variaty and quality !!

Iphone applications on HD

Well, i had the opportunity to use the Iphone for two months.
After that i sold it and bought as firstly intentioned HTC Touch HD, and i'm simply in love with it.
I must admit that Iphone has a couple of good applications.
I'm referring to the vWallpapers application that allows you to put short .mpg4 film as a wallpaper or to put it to play when having a incoming call.
I've searched the threads here but i couldn't find anything on that subject or I just didn't search well enafe
So, is it possible to put that application somehow on my HD or is there a similar Windows based application?
No.
iPhone applications are for thr iPhone, they're written to run on it's Mobile OSX operating system, not on WinMo.
i supposed that would be the answer...
but is there maybe some similar application designed for the WinMo platform?
The only app I can think of which can do animated wallpaper is that one, but it is meant to be used while your blackstone is charging in a cradle..
Thanks...
That's going in a good direction, and it maybe developes in a good app, but is not totally what i wanted.
I wanted something that would be integrated with the TouchFlo.
But thanks for the help anyway...

Official Windows Phone 7 Series Pics and Screens (Showcases OS and UI)!!!

I have tons pics of the Windows Phone (Mobile) 7 series for those who have been living under a rock for the last couple of days. The pictures exhibit the core of the OS and the UI.

About Windows Phone 7
Microsoft's latest mobile OS behaves completely different from previous iterations which may be a major selling point or a deal breaker. The UI is elegant, simplistic, and fully animated, no other OS is close in comparison. It's innovation at it's finest. Its pretty obvious what type of user MS was aiming towards just by glancing at the screen shots, and you can't blame them. That was how iPhone gained such huge ground.
WinPho 7's interface, codenamed "Metro", is visually similar to the Zune HD. Unlike previous edition of windows mobile, Windows Phone 7 isn't powered by Windows CE kernel, but it is rather based on said embedded OS. It seems like MS main focus is push notification, social networking and finally integrating their other services like Zune Marketplace and Xbox Live.
Ballmer didn't announce much about the hardware requirements, but he did say that there was a capacitive screen requirement. So gone are the days of using your stylus in Excel, Office, or Bubble Breaker.
What make windows Phone 7 Series stand out is the attention to detail, animations, and overall look of the OS. The keyboard is completely overhauled, it's bigger and translucent. The Lock screen is carried over from the Zune HD, it only displays important notifications like new messages, missed calls, and updated status. Unfortunately it doesn't display appointments. The home screen consists of animated tiles or hubs that serve as links to other features of the OS. The home screen is sorta reminiscent of Androids, by allowing you to pin any App, Contact, Picture, Bookmark, etc.
My OpinionsIt's pretty clear that I like the revisions or I would've denounced it in this post. The animations are uncanny and The overall experience may make it easy to use, but this is just speculation. I own an Xbox 360 and have Live for Windows on my PC so achievements are pretty big to me and it's nice to see MS being the first to integrate such a feature into a mobile device.
As happy as I am, there are still things that have me upset. The home screen just looks bland and flat, couldn't they have added some kind 3D element and why is there no background image? The apps menu only shows one row of apps in alphabetical order, which may make it easier to find app, but may get tedious once your App collection grows. I feel they should have used the same view they have for the contacts in the Apps menu, it would've been leagues better than just one row of apps.
My Question and Conclusion Like a lot of you forum goers, I'm pretty stuck on the fence on this one. Still many things I want to know such as:
How does the OS handle Multitasking?
What level of Customization is available?
Will OEMS be allowed to differentiate themselves from each other?
What about SDK and 3rd party software?
Details on Compatibility with Phones like the HTC HD2, Toshiba TG02 & K01 or other devices releasing in 2010.
What are the Hardware requirements.
What's the fate of Winmo 6.5?
Is there compatibility with Legacy Apps and vice versa?
More info on MS's plan for Cloud computing
How far along are you with flash support?
The name is Windows Phone Series, does that mean there will be other versions of the OS, Maybe a Lite Version for Older Phones?
What about Cabs & File Browsing?
MS's latest revision may look more treacherous than adventurous to "Hardcore" users and fans of Winmo. Love or hate it, this mobile OS isn't finish, there's much to be revealed at MIX10 and we won't see a release date anytime soon
Stay tuned, in a couple days I will have animated gifs that demonstrates the UI animations.
Whatever it is, I like it a lot. And I would love to have it on my X1....I hope some DevGods try to make it for my X1...
ANd BTW, Thanx for the pix!
Your Welcome. As far as compatibility goes for older Qualcomm 72xx chipset devices like your X1 or the Touch HD, I'm not to sure whether you will get a update. I know I won't, because I have a Palm Treo Pro and Palm just left me dry (No Updates For even Winmo 6.5). MS titled this OS Windows Phone 7 Series. There may be other versions such as a business version or a lite version for users of older devices.

That's true; Microsoft could have an unannounced "Windows Phone Professional Series." That would probably be where everyone here would go. Or maybe that's what the current Windows Mobile Professional will be (probably and hopefully not).
Windows Phone 7 Series = Zune HD + Phone... (what? i heared a similar story before... oh yes.. it is called "iPhone OS", an ipod.. with phone... )
I like the UI, yes.. but i will miss the things that windows mobile had.. like a file explorer (the best file explorer for mobile devices i must say), full customizacion thanks to this community...
All would be better if they just could add special effects to their current UI... (windows mobile with animations and that stuff)...
just saying...

MMM... The Ipod Touch was more application oriented (At least it became app oriented after the iphone and the installer.app became popular) Whilst the Zune HD is more MultiMedia Oriented. Only reason ipods ever win is their app base... my friend has 3 fart apps, a light saber app, and bump... not really...a phone

I can't wait too see what the talented people in this forum can do for this platform. They done leagues to enhance and customize Winmo 6.5
I love what I've seen and thanks for the pictures. Here's why I love it. On my 8525 running 6.5.3 I currently install these 3rd party programs: Resco Explorer, Resco Photos, Coreplayer, Icontact, Facebook, Thumbcal, SPB Mobile Shell 3.5, JZ Browser (love it!), Opera Mini 5, Schaps Advanced Configuration, Arcsoft MMS Messenger and Google Maps. That's just the ones I have to put in to feel the phone is great(which it is for when it was made). With the 7 Series I don't think I'd need any of these programs so how much of an improvement has MS made (gigantic!). Not to mention how interactve the hubs are and how easy these programs they have work together. So far so good. I can't wait to get more info at MIX.
I must say that before I got my HTC Touch Pro 2 I knew nothing about Windows Mobile. But after visiting this forum and trying a few ROMs I must admit that Windows Mobile is awesome! So, I'm waiting to see what's going to happen with Windows Phone 7 (I really hope this is not the official name of the OS). However, MS has a habit of trying to compete with Apple and I just wish they would forget about Apple and build a rock solid OS.
The first thing I read about WP7 is that it needs a Massive CPU (1ghz). So I thought Oh my god here whe go again, MS needs to rely on high hardware specs again to get the thing going, wich could mean another FAIL programming.
Afther watchting the demo I must say that I like the interface verry much, and I can only hope it will realy be as fast as they want you to believe it is.
I also think it is a good thing that they started from scratch because most (not all) of the old apps are useless anyway. The biggest problem being the wide variaty of phone hardware wich makes in imposible to deliver dedicated-always working-allways equally fast- software. (a problem that the Iphone doesn't have, everything you download is fast, and works) and I only dream that my HTC HD would work that well, but it just doesn't (even with the great custom roms you guys make, the CPU doesn't cut it)
The only thing that I want from a phone is full PC compatibility and SPEED. Thats what windows phone looks like to going to offer, but I also like to be able to put on my phone what I want, and that is a big question mark with this new OS.

the X1 isn't a great device when compared to the Touch Pro 2. I think Windows Phone 7's requirements don't feature older devices running the Qualcomm 72xx chips.

Ummmm no. I'm not sure what your definition of "powered by" is but in my world "based on" is the same thing (especially in this case).
Windows CE is a modular, embedded operating system that can be customized with tons of various components and then added onto if the developer chooses. In this case, the end developer is Microsoft and they're adding on their own UI, .net, silverlight, etc (not sure how similar the included .net/silverlight in CE6R3 is to WP7).
So basically Microsoft picks and chooses what parts of CE they want to use as a starting point and then adds on. CE is not a "complete" OS in itself really. It is designed exactly for this sort of purpose.
"Powered by", "based on", whatever you want to call it but CE is most certainly the kernel and core of Zune (classic and HD), Windows Phone, etc. It's most likely CE6R3 but could be 6R2 or even CE7.

Windows 6.5 for Evo? Does anyone know if i can install Windows 6.5 on this phone?

windows 6.5 for Evo?
Why would you want to? And this from a prior touch pro custom rom flasher....
You currently can't. It's probably possible but I'd be very surprised to see anyone putting any effort into it.
Yuck, just wait and see if someone get's Windows Phone 7 for it.
WM6.5 is junk compared to Android and even WP7.
Anyways, I don't foresee it with full drivers anytime soon, we're having enough issues w/ Froyo which Froyo itself is open source.
There are no 4G drivers for Windows Mobile anyway so you might as well just get an HD2.
why would you want to take a perfectly good phone and make it garbage?
WinMo 6.5.3 has a very slick contact management app built in. The ability to quickly switch from Exchange to Gmail to Yahoo to SMS inboxes simply by clicking <right arrow> or swiping to the right is also very slick. There are a lot of well-built MS tools available for 6.5 such as Livemesh Mobile, Word, Excel, OneNote etc. If you have a Windows computer and you work at a company that has all windows servers WinMo 6.5 is not a bad enterprise oriented OS. Facebook + social media apps and games? CRAP but for MS Geeks, it's quite nice.
Full disclosure, I have previously owned TP2, TP, SCH-i760, Treo 700w, SCH-i700 so I'm a little partial to the OS.
Windows mobile has it's perks. I still have an HD2 and I like it, but having an android OS takes all of the guess work out of using the phone. I will say though that having CHTEditor for sense UI is great. I wish the dev who created it for winmo would do that for the evo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633590
windows mobile is nice for some things, but android is so much better.
this has been gone over way too many times and people need to search.
Example of a huge android fail for such a basic want. I want 7 full screen widgets and just one folder. Is the only place you can put folders on the main screens?
I don't see why it couldn't be done as this phone is similar to the hd2 but i doubt you would get a dev to port it and honestly android is 10x better!
I'll believe it's 10x better if you can tell me how I can have 7 full screen widgets and just one folder. In winmo the start screen holds apps and folders. You can also put folders in the links on the today screen and that little row of links can open up to multiple pages up to about 80 links I think.
In android you could put 112 folders on the main screens, but nothing else. Those screens would be maxed out. Sounds like android wins, but think of it this way.
You can add all the apps you want to android (all apps screen) or winmo (start screen) limited only by memory. In winmo that goes for folders also. Not so in android.
Let's compare further. Let's say I'm using sense in android so I have 7 screens instead of 5 and have 7 full screen widgets and I compare it to sense in winmo...no that's not fair since in winmo it comes with about 15 fullscreen widgets. Ok, let's say in winmo I don't have sense and use UL and make 7 screens so it's like android and put full screen widgets (lots of free ones out there) on them.
Now I want some folders. In winmo I create them in my start page. What do I do in android? Is there an app out there that holds folders? That would be a good option. Just go to the all apps screen and open that app to see my folders.
ok, so I have no opinion on the major topic of this post, but as a suggestion, I mean, you could just use multiple scenes. Then you would have 7 screens for each scene, and to switch you just do like 3 clicks and you have 7 more screens.
Obviously it is a little more work, because you will have to save the scene when you modify, but its some form of accommodation for what you are looking for.
I also think there is something called launcher pro or something on the market that allows you to add more than 7 screens. I am not sure and have never used it.
Sorry if this suggestion in no way accommodates you, just ignore if so.
Well,...It's an option. A little bit of a pain in the ass, but I kind of like that. You can expand quite a bit that way. Still a little overcomplicated compared to winmo though, but in effect I guess you're not limited to just seven screens. How many scenes can you create? Is that a memory hog?
you should really try something like adw.launcher from the market just to see if you like it. You can have 7 screens but you can change it to have up to 7x7 grid on each screen. It is highly customizable
But I am pretty sure you can have a bunch of scenes, shouldn't affect memory since its only loading one scene at a time.
Well, it looks like Windows 95 has now been ported to Android. Why not Winmo? I'm betting some one will do it just because so many say it won't happen, just for the bragging rights.

windows vs android

i just have to say even though i am living with my desire and android if you think windows was worse with all its faults it wasnt, i so fed up with how poor android is that i have to come and say android is **** as **** as windows ever was so ram a sock in it ahh feel better.
Seems like you wouldnt get along with ANY operating system... maybe even iOS is too hard to handle for you.
Solution: Get a Dynatac 8000 by Motorola. It was the first of all MobilePhones and should totally cover your needs

Windows better!
I assume you are talking about your windows double glazing of your home, if that is the case Andriod is useless in comparison and I agree!
If you are talking about Windows Pocket PC in comparison then I can only assume you have not turned your Desire on yet!

I'm loving that Motorola
Just imagine the hardware they could fit in that if someone had the balls to make a phone that big today?
I have a Dynatac 8000 on my mantle peice .
The one on there dynatec 8000 is perfect.
Could we please get some pertinent, on-topic comments here? I am also interested in a realistic comparison between these two OS, cause I am about to switch from WM to Android and I'm not sure I will have the same functionality...
Thanks in advance.

Well, I switched from WinMo 6.1 on an HTC Touch Cruise. It had a nice custom ROM and worked very well.
The Desire is just fabulous to hold and play with, but it doesn't do any more than the Win phone. Desire screen is beautiful and so much more responsive than the old one. Internet surfing is much better.
Having flashed the old phone's ROM many times, you might think that I'd jump in to doing the same with the Desire, particularly as it only has 2.1 not Froyo yet.
But, I'm nervous about it ..... all this talk of rooting drives me up the wall!
And, I have to buy sat nav all over again - Middle east, Europe and South Africa - there goes 200 Euros! (no, Google directions don't work here).
Sorry to ramble on.
HTH.
Right. I miss my Pocket PC. I miss how ActiveSync would lose the partnership every so often. And how I had duplicates everywhere in Outlook after I re-created the partnership.
Are you for real? Android wins over WinMo 6.5 anytime. I have used a WinMo device for over 2 years and Android is a hell lot better then WinMo, and no, it is not even as unstable as WinMo.
I love android but i find it so unstable, unrooted stock. Killed the original sd card, my new sd card is partly corrupt. Stupid apps issue no space (i know u can root but u shouldnt have to).
Otherwise android has loads of pros against winmo and id choose android any day.

Missing loads of stuff from good winmo. Also missing customer support (non existent for android).

But I agree that htc sense on top of android is miles ahead of manila on top of winmo, especially since you are comparing winmo devices quite older than desire & co.
You can't compare the two. It's like comparing an amiga 2000 to a pentium powered PC

I forsee in the future an new all encompassing OS called WinDroid mwuahahahaaa *cough*
I've used both, WinMo 6.5 on a hd2, and Android 2.2 on a Desire. The Desire I found is brilliant and really shows how much both Android devices and the Android operating system have come on since the initial release (my first android was a htc Hero running cupcake).
WinMo is good, i just find Android does better, the things I require from a mobile device. I guess its the apps that are streets ahead on Android, and the amount of free ones available. Windows mobile app development has pretty much come to a grinding holt, and even the apps that are available for both platforms, they seem so much better on Android (facebook app is a good example).
Also its interesting using the touch screen on WinMo 6.5 on the hd2 and also using it on Android on the hd2 also. Its like your using a different handset? The screen is so much more responsive using Android its unreal.
I really like the hd2 but after using the desire aswell, the Desire running 2.2 is my weapon of choice.
Of course the desire has my preference at the moment, of course it's also one generation ahead of my old touch hd.
My post was to point out some aspect of the immaturity and - at times - non-professional aspects of android.
It isn't out yet, but give me wp7 over the same desire hardware and I'm not so 100% sure which I will choose between htc sense and wp7. Give me stock android vs wp7 and I will choose wp7 blindly. Give me winmo 6.5.3 vs stock android and I will choose stock android very reluctantly.
I don't give so much importance if android has 20000 games, 30000 cool apps, etc. I only need 10-20 well made programs.

[Discussion] Satisfied with Windows Phone (and the coming Apollo Update)?

On my blog, I recently wrote an article about some of the reasons why Windows Mobile 6.5 is still useful even with Windows Phone 7(.5) out. So with all of the news about Mango coming soon, do you think that Windows Phone 7(.x) has enough features to go ahead and completely replace Windows Mobile 6.5 or is there a reason why you still use Windows Mobile 6.5? For me (even though I do use Windows Phone 7.x), it's games and customization.

Yes, and yes. Im satisfied when Mango comes, but im not unhappy now ether. I recently sold my HD2 as my goodbye to WM. Keept my BA and some other old WM devices out of nostalgia, but there in there boxes now.
ditched my winmo as soon as windows phone was released and I didn't look back
Love WP7 as an OS, miss WM for it's eye candy/customizable.
One thing I don't like about WP7 is the Metro UI. While it is clean & what ever, it's missing the eye candy & ability to customize that WM or Android has. I understand a lot of people like it, but keep in mind that is an opinion. Not a fact & in my opinion, it's kind of dull looking.
All that said, I'll never look back at WM or Android. I just love how smooth WP7 is & the games/apps.
Yes n Yes. What I am missing most is garmin GPS (I live in indonesia and garmin is the only good gps with mapping system and POI here) and ability to search contact just like pc outlook, which will be sorted next update I believe
When I migrated from WM6 to WP7, I kept my old phone charged and ready for the first few weeks, because I wasn't sure I would be able to get by without some of the features it offered. Truth be told, it's now been sitting (uncharged) in a drawer for the past 5 months, and it will soon be sold. WM has nothing on WP7 in my book.
If, for some reason, it became necessary for me to leave WP7, I still wouldn't go back to WM, I'd go with one of the other modern smartphone OSes.
Yes...and hell yes!
Since the first day I used wp7 on my old hd2 I loved it....but then Android pulled me back in cuz hd2 didn't run it perfectly. And Android since then became annoying to me. iPhone was my first smartphone, and I found my self loading my screen with colorful icons I never touched. Android is good.....BUT even with a bloody dualcore it will lag and can't touch any wp7 device in scrolling. Wp7 is only getting better, and I can't imagine how wp8 will be plus windows 8 tabs.....God bless Microsoft!
Edit: I forgeot WM lol....it was cool for the few weeks i used it.
I have been a WM user for years... and I was excited when WP7 came out. I bought the surround Nov. 18th and it has been my primary phone. I also have some android devices I use for development and if it wasn't for the Zune media player and Zune Pass, I would be using android every day. I sure hope that Mango brings everything we as a group have been waiting for... Like multitasking and video MMS and......
Otherwise I am going to get an android phone for my daily driver and wait until WP7 matures some more.
But man do I love the Zune player and pass!
Though I love WP7 there are things that tick me off. Mango will correct them of course I just wish that MS gets to it fast and we do not see the cluster bang that we saw with NoDo. the problem really is twofold. MS really needs to push this OS and educate people on it. in metro Boston there is nothing on WP7 yet tons of stuff we see for android and ios. Secondly go into say a T-MO store and ask to see a wp7 device and get told why would you want that? we have this nice new samsung android here blah blah... MS needs to really step it up and get adverts out there that shows the OS and what it can do..instead of showing a bunch of peeps falling down or dropping devices in urinals’
I just converted from Android and I will not look back I love wm phone better than the other os out there I just wish they had two apps my bank chase and navigon or Tom Tom come on get onto this os it is great .
Sent from my T8788 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
There are some things I can't do, or things I can't run on WP7 that I was able to run on 6.5... But WP7, pre-nodo and now with nodo was slick enough for me to make the full change and simply adapt to it... I found it that good...
Mango will simply make it much much better...
The apps I miss off ole 6.5 are TomTom and Garmin... But Turn-By-Turn is filling the gap for now...
I first tried WP7 on my HD2 and the HD2 came alive and ran quick like it always could... 6.5 hobbled it...
The simple things done on the phone each day, like checking messages and emails and such is much quicker on WP7... Zip in, do what ya gotta do, zip out... Its the OS for the serious user...
Users who want a lot of fart apps stick with haemorrhoid and igroan!
Hi everyone. I have another article up with some more reasons that I keep a Windows Mobile 6.5 device handy. Most of them have to do with bluetooth, but not all.

For those of us who like games, you have to admit that Microsoft would make things a lot better if they made it easier to get console emulators on Windows Phone 7, right (you can run emulators under Windows Mobile 6.5)?

er...no...
I'm curious to know how many people actually used contact transfer via bluetooth in Windows Mobile 6.5. It seems to me that was a handy feature.

I didn't I just sent my contacts to my SIM card and copied them that way. How ever I will not be giving up my 6.5 HTC TP2. Not until MS installs a "windows" explorer allowing me to truly use my device as I see fit.
As for the apps I know people are working very hard on them and they are coming, no different than WinMo 5-6.5 when it first came out. In three years time I'm sure there will be tons of stuff we have created.
I had the touch pro, touch pro 2, and imagio so i was pretty seasoned in windows mobile. I just recently got the HTC Trophy and im satisfied with WP7. No more lag, a browser thats dependable and can play most videos while browsing and not worrying about the videos making the browser close in the background because of too much memory being used, being able to open text messages without lags and freezes and reply instantly, much better keyboard and music player
theres only a few things that somewhat piss me off tho, no file explorer, no custom ringtones (coming in mango), no usb mass storage mode, no wifi tethering at the moment, and on winmo i use to download albums single mp3's through the web browser and i was able to add those files to my library on the go without being tied down to using a computer and syncing.
but other than those gripes i love wp7 and realize its still within its first year and i dont expect it to have everything right off the bat but i love the os and willing to wait things out its going to be exciting watching this platform grow.
WP7 is ok, I like its simplicity, but I really miss the openness of WinMo.
I can't stand the absence of USB mass storage, I can't stand to be bound to Zune, I can't stand to be bound to my PC, I cannot stand the absence of file management with file explorer...
I cannot stand not to able to play quickly my DivX|AVI movie files, after a simple drag & drop.
I cannot stand the lack of decent storage (no swappable SD card, no slot for SD card, pathetic 8GB only devices...)
In September I will probably move to a high end Android device.
All my friends that used to have WinMo have now moved to Android and they all so satisfied
I realize I cannot stand locked down OS like iPhone and WP7
I thought Mango would bring some flexibility and openess... But it didn't
WM is nothing in front of WP.. if someone has both WM and WP and chooses to use WM instead of WP, he/she obviously has some kind of problem in his life..

Or maybe, more reasonably, he just needs a flexible and open OS, without missing features.
