I rooted my desire and i am now running defrost 2.5a. When the ota update comes around how whould i be able to install it? It used to be a branded device
So i am thinking i would have to use a goldcard to re-flash the stock 2.1 sense rom and then update ota?
Or can i just download the rom as soon as its leaked and install via rom Manager?
Also can i use launcher pro on stock sense?
Thx

Why are you worrying about the OTA? Within a couple of hours of the OTA pushing out, there will be pre-rooted update.zip's available that you can flash manually.
Regards,
Dave
also, there is a potential risk that you won't be able to root it again for some time... I think hboot on hong kong test version of 2.2 was 0.87, or something like that
Right now, the best thing to do is to relax and wait for the rooted rom

I am currently setting up my goldcard and planning to flash the new official froyo update, I've been flashing my g1 ever since rom were first developed and am well aware of the dangers of flashing radio.
Do I need a new radio before flashing the official froyo rom, and if so how do I flash the radio I am on tmo branded with 0.80 hboot and 1.21 software, I have bricked a g1 before and theres no way I want that to happen with the desire.
Also I am looking to flash a stock rom that will allow me to get th update ota, which rom would b best to use?
Update, I have managed to root to stock 1.15.405.3 using the macardo method but when I try to update via ota update th phone resets and I get a red question mark, the phone reboots not updated
bump bump bump
Did you leave the goldcard in? Someone with a problem like yours reported applying the Froyo update with the goldcard in and using recovery to apply it as a zip.
Got my new Desire HD today and not really shure what to do. Install new OTA thats out, or just root and radio s-off and find a rom that suits me?

leeroids new rom has the latest OTA updates if you were to use it.
Or maybe you can take a look to this guide and have both -- root and OTA. I by myself followed it and now I have a "stock" 1.72 fully rooted.
Make sure you root and radio s-off before you do anything. At this stage if you accept the ota you will not be able to change your mind. Like the previous poster, I chose the best of both worlds.
At this stage I have not found a custom sense rom with the new base which works as well as stock.

Hello,
I have my HD rooted running LeeDroid ROM. ENG-S off and RADIO-S off.
I have a backup of my original Voda ROM.
When I flash back to the Voda ROM I get the OTA update for 2.3.3. Can I install this update, or will this stuff the ENG S and RADIO S settings I have that allows me to install custom ROMS?
Do I run the risk of bricking the phone by installaing the update.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers
No you cannot install an OTA on a rooted phone - you'll most likely end up bricking it.
you have to RUU your phone to original non rooted state and then root it again using Gingerbread rooting process...
Edit : Sry it's late If you do revert back to stock using Voda or whatever then yes you can - even with ENG and Radio settings....i think perhaps even the Voda has the correct radio for your phone so it'll just install that - no issues - i think
thanks
thank you for that...I thought so...but wanted to check.
I was interested in seeing the performance of the Voda update against the ROM I am using.
Glad I asked as I had the update downloading and canceled it!
Cheers
EDIT: Oh okay. The backup I did of the Voda ROM is a factory reset version with just CWM and Superuser installed. I did the backup through CWM.
Desire is currently rooted and S-OFF'ed. Is it possible to "debrand" this way? Also this means I'll get the GB update (as I'm pretty sure VF won't release an update)
Thanks for any potential advice guys

Yes, you can. But you need goldcard to avoid cid error and furthermore, you will loose root access and s-off. So imho it is easier, to flash one of the many custom sense roms with gingerbread you can find here. On this way you won't loose root access and s-off status, but you will have a gingerbread sense rom (which is what you want I guess).
or is there a easy way to unroot? I rooted via unrevoked......

There is no easier way to unroot as flashing a ruu, imho.

Ok so I guess if I flash the Voda RUU, the phone will have to do a few updates...... as the RUU is pretty old 2.1 I do believe...
if you instal the Vodafon RUU you will be branded again. And what is the point of unrooting? You can always find a rooted stock Rom, I am sure one will come out as soon as Gingerbread will be released.
And another problem would be if they release the update by IMEI and then if you are not at the original state of your phone you will not get the update even if not rooted.
True, best wait for a stock rooted ROM from here then and flash that via ROM manager

Please do not use rom manager, it is a horrible software which causes many heavy system problems here. Just do it directly from recovery.
I have a rooted (S-On) wildfire S with CWM recovery installed. It is currently running on stock Rom 2.3.3 and I want to upgrade it to 2.3.5 OTA....
Phone is NOT network dependent or network locked..
Will OTA upgrading damage my phone ???

Sadly, no. Once it's rooted upgrades become your own responsibility. If you're lucky, you could find a flashable file of the stock update online somewhere, but I'd just Flash the WildChild ROM if I was you, for a few reasons.
1. Based on Stock, all the features you want are there. Nothing is missing or broken.
2. It is based on Android 2.3.5 so flashing it will upgrade your Android version.
3. It's themed and arguably more attractive than Stock Sense 2.1 :good:

What you have to do is Simple. You need to give up root for like an hour. Backup all your apps, messages, etc.
Check the upgrade to 2.3.5 link in my signature. Follow the method in my tutorial and you'll have 2.3.5, unlockable and rootable.
For the RUU part, choose the latest one depending on your region, not necessarily the one I've linked.
Good luck.
