OTA Questions - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First Off, im not sure if this should be in Q&A or android development. But, here i go..
I have seen alot lately about the leaked ota update, and all these fancy 2.2 leaks, which apparently requires a radio flash of some kind. Now before i do this, i have some questions..
If i do this, will i be able to use old nandroid backups of 2.1? and if i am rooted, how do i go about flashing the leaked ota? Im asking because im hearing alot of posts of people bricking phones.
Also, if i ignore this update, and theoretically a 2.2 update is released tommorow, will i be able to just update rooted? im sure i would lose root but could i do it? or do i really need to use PB31IMG and restore my phone?
Thanks for the reply.

Gentle warning, due to admitted OP confusion. Good rule: if you really have to start a thread, when in doubt choose General or Q&A (if one is available). Thanks

it should be in Q&A.

Unfortunately, Incredible has no Q&A section yet so General is used for that. For now.

Ok, ill keep that in mind. I take it the thread has been moved. but anyway, anyone have any input on the whole radio update dillema?

If a new OTA is released and the radio is slightly different you'd need to RUU. I am not sure how the OTA prompt would go and what would happen if you tried to apply the ota BUT I know you can always RUU down and flash the newest OTA after SU busybox etc is added with no problems.

So basically, theres no way im upgrading the radio unless i RUU and apply the ota. Alright. Guess Ill wait for an official OTA. but will a 2.2 rom break unrEVOked 3.1?

No one knows because the official update is not out. No one knows if the radio will be different than the leaked one, or if the hole used to root is plugged. The people who do know (HTC/Verizon), don't appear to be on this forum.

[Q] about Unrevoked 3.2.1!!

I need to take my dev for service as I'm having hardware issues, worst case I get it replaced and when I receive the replacement and it comes with the latest update pre-installed, Can i use unrevoked 3.2.1 to Root my phone or do I have to follow the long commands in Adb Shell provided in the guide (how to root 2.2 froyo) in this forums?

I believe unrevoked can root any veraion, but not 100% sure. Did you take a look at theot wiki page withthe info?
I do not know the answer as well. Move this thread to the question and answer section for the evo and you may get an answer.

If you have nothing nice to say or knowledgeable info for the OP then shut your face
Greetings,
I also have a supersonic. I spent quite some time reading all the related threads, and
the info provided on Unrevoked's wiki(s). There have been several posts indicating that
It does work on the latest OTA (YMMV). I haven't (yet) fetched the latest OTA, but I did
root mine with Unrevoked 3.21, and I was using the most recent version
just prior to the latest OTA. I am happy to report, it couldn't have possibly been
easier, and everything still works as well, as it did prior. In fact, I'd say it works better,
as I now have some better boot/recovery options not previously available.
I might also note, there were several posts confirming that applying the latest
OTA after rooting with Unrevoked 3.21 were all successful.

Root problem with official RUU

I searched for this problem and it seems DHD and Wildfire S have this problem too.
I updated my desire to 2.3 with official Ruu from developer.HTC.com and I can't root with unrevoked 3.... The solution for DHD and WS was downgrading , but I didn't see any tutorial for Desire downgrading from 2.3 to 2.2

Entschuldigung.
I didn't see it really. Mods delete this thread and ban me
that's because there isn't one and if you actually BOTHERED to look, you would find AT LEAST 7-10 different posts about pretty much the same issue. Stop spamming with this sh*t!!!!
It is annoying to see so many threads made on this topic.. but wouldnt it help if one is stickied somewhere to give those blind bats a chance of spotting it?

Good idea, however, won't work. We had it stickied in the HTC Inc forum once upon a time. A 2.2 OTA update (I believe it was 2.2.1 at the time) came out, and blocked the exploit that Unrevoked used to get root. This was then followed by at least ONE full page of "Why can't I get root?! You OWE this to me!! What the F is taking sooo long!" threads...
In that instance, obviously no one knew that the update would block the root exploit. So it took a long, grueling, five days for Unrevoked to update/test/release their product.
This then got us right back to the threads of "Help me I bricked my device and I don't know what I am doing HELP!" threads, back to normal I guess.

Desire Z perma rooted - how to unroot?

Hello,
I have a HTC Desire Z with perma root, S-off and Clockwork recovery, however I'd like to update to the latest official rom of Gingerbread. I assume to do this that I have to remove my root, S-off and recovery, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how?
I read that I'm not supposed to flash certain files with S-off or I'll get a bootloop, so could somebody advise me what to do?
This is my specs:

You've posted in the wrong forum - you need to post in Questions, ideally.
Just installing the official update via RUU (there are guides, search the forum) will put your phone back to stock - but you won't be able to undo the changes without a LOT of work. Why do you even want to do it?
You'd be better finding a modified and rooted version of the latest stock f/w, surely?
Sorry, I Wasn't paying attention to what forum I posted it in.
Could you recommend me a rom that's closest to the latest stock as possible?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837042
This is the most stock you can get with a sense ROM
Thanks, one final question.
Do I need Clockwork Recovery 3.x? I'm on 2.6.x right now and I know that in 3.x they needed new partitions, I assume I'll need to update?

Latest is 5.0.2 but you can just install it through rom manager. to be able to flash GB roms you'll need a recovery higher as 3.x though since this is the one that can change partitions to ext4
just wondering, do you want it stock for the rom or for warranty purposes?
The reason I wanted stock was because I never use root and I didn't want to mess up my phone.
One final final question:
Will my 2.2 Nandroid dumps work on recovery 5.*?

Software update

I just clicked on software update/check for update in the 'About Phone' section of my settings. I've never clicked it before. It said new firmware required. So I let it download the new software. Then it said charge battery before updating, and then it let me choose when to resume the update. I chose 3 hours. So I'm on stock Android 2.3.3. Gingerbread XWKE7 . What will it update to? I'm a bit worried now, is it going to wipe stuff? Everything's working good so I don't 'need' to update, but it would be nice to. Can I cancel the update? Only thing I can see is 'resume update'.
If you are from london uk. I think the OTA(over the air) version is gingerbread 2.3.4. I do not think it is a wipe device firmware but just to be safe, back it up via kies if your phone is not rooted otherwise use titanium backup if your phone is rooted.
Trust me I would go with the update. Some improvements. I wish we could update
For sure it is NO WIPE version.
Thanks guys, it's a relief it didn't wipe anything.
This is what I got. I thought it might also update Android but it hasn't. What benefits can I expect from the updated Gingerbread XWKF3?

I made a duplicate thread because I wasn't sure which forum to post it in and I panicked a bit last night so needed a fast answer. OK?

How does one downgrade the firmware?

I have the Indian HTC one X rooted with 1.28.720.10 and can't find the RUU anywhere.
I've been facing a lot of problems with it - including the disk space mysteriously vanishing, (20 gigs gone in my case) and so I want to revert it to a stock unrooted state before returning it for a replacement.
Already seen this thread for the AT&T version, and the sdcard does not have a mmcblk0p23 as stated.
I have the RUU for an older version(1.26.720.2) from the RUU thread so I want to downgrade the firmware to that one.
Anyone tried a variation of the AT&T method? Or is there another way to downgrade the firmware...or am I SOL?

wrong place to ask for. for all type of question there is a veeery big Q&A thread qo and ask there
You can't downgrade the firmware once updated the hboot and radio. You'll have to wait till s- off is achieved for that. What you can do is flash a stock rom (1.26), flash stock recovery, re lock bootloader (in order) and then flash the 1.28, subsequently 1.29.x firmware update ruu. If you want to get rid of the sd space issue, why not flash one of the many 1.29.x and 2.x based roms on the forum?
Wrong section btw. Anyway, best of luck!
Thank me if I helped.... You know I'll do it again Oh, and by the way, Sent from my HTC One X
Yeah, you can't flash an RUU that would take the hboot to a previous version. A few Chinese sites mention the 1.28.720.10 RUU, but I can't translate from my phone.
As said, just install ARHD 7.1 or whatever if you're already unlocked.
