Did you install the 2.2 leak? Did you notice this? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Feel free to post your findings in this thread if you have updated to 2.2 (SUCCESSFULLY, (this isn't an "I bricked my phone" thread)) via the leaked OTA from this site.
That said, I have noticed a couple things I wanted to mention. Now whenever I plug my phone into my PC a notification bubble pops up and says CD ROM found and quickly launches a new tab on my PC for the Verizon Wireless Media Manager. Has anyone discovered a fix for this yet?
Also, I wanted to add a couple of screenshots from Quadrant and Linpack

From recovery with /system mounted to remove Verizon PC nag:
mv /system/etc/CDROM.ISO /system/app.disabled/

I've noticed that HTC skinned the "Recent App" window and the keyboard is multitouch now. I haven't had much time to mess with anything else though. criDikal's post fixes the Verizon pop-up too.

I just copied and pasted exactly what you wrote into the command prompt. The next prompt reads exactly:
mv: can't rename '/system/etc/CDROM.ISO' : Not a directory
DO I have to make the directory for it somehow?

You need to put a space after CDROM.ISO
mv /system/etc/CDROM.ISO /system/app.disabled/

Ah, I apologize. I see where the problem is.
In recovery (ClockworkMod) after mounting '/system'...type 'adb shell' to obtain a root command prompt.
You should then be able to perform the mv command.

I just did an adb shell in recovery and did the following,
rm /system/etc/CDROM.ISO

Not too worried about needing that ever so some of us just deleted it.

I still couldn't get the mv command working but the rm did the trick. Thanks.
Also why is the Quadrant rating for the Nexus One 2.2 so much higher? I figured we had the better device

You probably didn't already have a app.disabled directory. Should have done a 'md /system/app.disabled' before doing the mv command.

If I'm not mistaken they both use the same processor. It could be that the N1 comes with a lot less bloatware maybe and no sense? Just a guess though.

1. When receiving an incoming call with a facebook-synced contact you will see their current facebook status scrolling across the call screen.
2. The pattern lock screen is a bit different (seems to be less error-prone)
3. Atleast for me, handcent SMS is not blocked(visually) by the keyboard anymore when receiving a pop-up text while the phone is locked.
We really need to get a list of known bugs (fixes if avaliable) and known updates!

I love that the screen shows both landscape views now.
I saw somebody complaining that it cant go upside down.... why?
Nobody is ever happy lol
Another thing I noticed was if you go to Messages>Menu key there is a new button that says Push messages with a picture of a globe on it (I was guessing www). Anyway what does that do? I press the button and it just says No push messages.

One more thing.. my reception strength seems to have gotten better. I went from having 1-2 bars avg in my house to 2-4 bars and I've never seen 4 bars here. Lovin FroYo over here.

Anyone else notice that it doesn't pause media playback after removing the headset?
Before, with Pandora or the builtin music player, when I removed my headphones, music would pause. Now.. it doesn't.
Also when I hang up from a call that previously paused playback, it doesn't resume again. I have to navigate back to the app and press Play.

Once the official version is out it will be smooth sailing. Just another week or so...

Thanks for the tips on removing the nag screen.
And below are my screenshots.....
Pretty stock 2.2 leak with some fixes applied.

Nice scores. Do you have any apps installed besides what came with the stock FroYo? Did you remove any apps? Just wondering because my scores were never that high...
Until I installed Hydra ocuv ov kernel..

I have a bunch of apps installed...maybe 30 or so in addition to what was stock Froyo. At that time I hadn't deleted any apps, but just today I renamed a bunch to prevent those processes from starting up. Got similar results.
Edit: Actually, Astro backs up 74 apps, so maybe I have more than 30...

Ok removed some built in app's

So I took the plunge and have removed peep and learn more from the phone, all working well so far. don't want to push my luck and remove more.
How did you managed it? I'm guessing you have root access or something?
yes rooted and booted loads of bits i want to remove but not sure what effect they would have on the system.
adb shell rm /system/app/Learn*
adb shell rm /system/app/com.htc.Twitt*
I managed to remove learnmore and the Stocks app and its widget. No discernable bad effects. I used Root Explorer successfully to do this, thought I havent managed to get Root Explorer to Copy and paste either to or from the device (Yup I know its read only, but Root Explorer, when working correctly, allows you to toggle R/w and R/0 ).

It's now working here. I used the update.zip mentioned here to gain "adb remount" ability for an unrelated issue and a side-effect is that Root Explorer now copies/pastes as expected.
Maybe a little tutorial on how to uninstall apps ??
I remove "rosie" to get back old style android look : its blazing fast and all htc's applications still works.
I used the Update.zip from Pauls Method at MoDaCo (Should go in the wiki if Paul says its OK?) and then was able to copy from /data/app/ to my SD Card using Linda File Manager whilst in "adb remount" (link via usb, then use command prompt to get to the adb directory and type "adb remount" then use the Linda File manager to do the bizz.)
Haven't tried removing anything or putting anything in yet, cos I really don't know whayt I'm doing. I just want to know HOW it can be done really. :0)

I don't get force closes, but it certainly doesn't work for me as it should. Pressing the buttons to change from R/W to R/O usually says Busy: cannot remount - also any "copy" seems to go ok but the "paste" never works.
I've got Root Explorer 1.4 I think. Also tried it with adb remount but it didn't seem to work either.

I want to do this but worried I might get the "force close error" when opening the peoples application when using the standard android UI. Its happened a few times when I set Home as my default application, reverted back to Touchflo and it been working great.
Removing Rosie completely will also remove the black look that HTC put in the ROM? Or is that something that is fixed by theming? (Like the top bar being black on the Hero, but white on the Magic)
Edit:
Well I went ahead and gave Rosie the boot, allong with some other HTC widget stuff (which becomes obsolete when you remove Rosie) I used Root Explorer to delete the files (adb shell rm wouldn't work :-\)
All I need now is the default white bar at the top instead of the HTC Black one

Remove ALL Sprint Crapware? (Q from an ex-WinMo Poweruser)

I moved from an HD2 to the Evo this week (no more TMobile, woot!). I am very familiar with custom WMO ROMS, Hard SPL, blah blah...
I have nearly zero Android development, custom ROM knowledge, etc, however.
I'd like to flash a custom ROM based on the factory, without all the Sprint programs preloaded.
Clearly I need to root; I am on steady ground with that knowledge. After that? Not so clear. There doesn't seem to be a thread with the steps I need to proceed.
Any info would be invaluable, thanks!
(PS - side question: why does Android launch all sort of processes in the background seemingly at random?)

This should be in Q & A.. But unless someone creates a rom with the apps removed. Its easier to just do it yourself.
If you did toasts method of rooting. Boot into recovery and type this
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
ls
This displays all apps on the phone. Do this to delete them.
rm NameOfApp.apk
rm NameOfApp.odex
It is caps sensitive and make sure you type the apk exactly as its written.

any reason adb remount isn't working for me? I do adb devices and my devices is there but when i type adb remount i get "remount faild: Invalid argument"
I started Toasts root directions, placing PC36IMG.zip on the base directory of the SD card. Shut down, loaded with the Vol Down and Power buttons. The bootloader checked the file on the SD card but then stopped on the white screen.
It seems it was supposed to proceed automatically? But I am dropped off with options on the white screen: FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, CLEAR STORAGE, SIMLOCK, and HBOOT USB.
Directions show Vol Up and Down for previous and next and Power for select.
Alright, I resolved this issue. I recopied the file to the SD card and made sure to eject drive before shutting the device down. Seemed to make all the difference! Proceeding with the remainder of Toast's directions now...

That's Linux trying to protect you. Essentially the rm command by default just removes one file at a time.
Try...
rm -r NameOfFolder
...to delete recursively.

thread dead?
IDK if this threads still monitored by anyone, but here's my question: I don't use adb, but I just rused root explorer to locate sprint crap, and added a .bak to the end of all of them to essentially 'disable' them. Is this a safe method? Will Android system waste energy looking for them anymore (they no longer show in app tray, but are they still using resources) ? Thanks much.

I was just about to say something similar. I had uninstalled Nascar using Titanium Backup, and the found out that I cant do the 2.2 OTA unless its there. TB didn't have the ability to restore it for some reason, so I got an APK from XDA, and put it in the system/app folder via Root Explorer. Then, I had to reset the permissions to match the other APK's, and it showed up and launched perfectly. Even did an update. Much easier than all that adb stuff, I think.
I used system app uninstaller for a buck on the market.. Easy and all there with the icons for easy to find and delete sprint and gapps.

Flash this zip and it should remove most of the Sprint apps. It will back them up to /sdx on your SD card so if anything is removed that you want, it will still be there. It's signed to work with RA.
http://grathwohl.me/uploads/android/evo/Sprint-Apps-Remover-signed.zip
I've seen a few people reference my post, but my post was really just trying to ask if anyone knew if, now that I've renamed them, and they don't run, they shouldn't be using up resources? Right, is that correct, or am I wrong in thinkin this?
And thanks cosine83, that's a really helpful post for a lot of people.

error occurred during install Unknown Reason - 18

I'm sure a few of you have heard of this.
I googled the hell out of this getting different answers and different results each time. People say that this is caused by the apps being downloaded to the SD and not the phone storage. So check any possible setting to make sure that the default install location is the internal memory and make sure nothing is being moved to SD (hell, I've REMOVED my card and downloaded the app only to have the same issue). It persists. I farted around for a bit and got a couple of things that were giving me issues to successfully install, but then another app would start giving me trouble.
What am I doing wrong (or not doing for that matter)
dunno, I've had the same issue, sometimes clearning some internal space helped, sometimes therfe were broken download.apk files in /sdcard/download/ that deleting helped.
Sometimes.

It will fix the problem discussed in this thread. "error occurred during install Unknown Reason - 18". When you try to install stuff and it either never fully downloads, or never fully installs. This is the fix, regardless of the individual app you're trying to install.
Usually. I've found that this isn't always the fix, but is the one that has worked most often to me.
When I type that in I get a file/directory not found

[Q] Power-off shortcut??

Hi guys,
Is it possible to have a shortcut icon on homescreen that powers the phone off. I have a protective gel case on my Desire and its a pain in the a**e having to long press it through the case and then select power off and then ok to confirm.
I am using quick boot app which is excellent but no power off option with it. Just reboot, recovery and quickboot. Have already requested Dev to add the function but not hopefull.
When long pressing the power button a menu pops up right? Is it possible to invoke that power menu in another way? Perhaps with a shortcut?
Surely its not rocket science to be able to click an icon and the phone powers off???????
Edit: see last post for solution
??
C'mon guys, someone must know a way to achieve this. Otherwise, whats this forum for?
5 minute job to knock up a zip patch file or a simple app for someone who know's what their doing. I feel a lot of people (certainly those using protective cases) would find such an app or patch (for rooted users like me) very welcome.
I would happily do it for someone else.
you can power off with the command

you can use gscript (light version available on the market for free.) to add a shortcut to that command on the homescreen.
You will need root access, i think.

Only seen your reply this morning. Thanks for your suggestion - gscript. Gonna try it out later today. Will post back.
Cheers dude.
What....these feelings...I feel bad now...sorry.
That widget looks like it would do the job great. Just depends of your stingy like me and wouldn't pay 87p for an app when I can do the same for free.
Just installed gscript and run a reboot -p script but it doesn't work
I get a stderr: not permited error
I am rooted and have the superuser app
Any ideas??
Try
su
reboot -p
Edit: that wont work. Make sure you tick 'needs su' box in gscript when you make the script. Should make it work
Got su box checked.
Tried
su
reboot -p
Tried re-installing gscript.
Tried reboot
Is it not working because, although I am rooted with unrevoked 3.2, I still have s-on? I wonder. Or, is it because reboot is not allowed to be run as a script???
But I have superuser app. Puzzled. Any more suggestions as I really want to get this working. By the way scripts not requiring su run fine.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/quick-boot/com.siriusapplications.quickboot
Hello
Yes I am already using quick boot but it doesn't have the option to simply power off the phone. Only reboot, recovery and bootloader. I have asked the Dev to add this option as others have also asked but not hopeful anytime soon.
All I want is a homescreen shortcut that powers off the phone. Simples!
Why am I getting not permitted error messages when trying to run following from gscript.....
reboot -p
It is set to use superuser but gives the error. WHY!!!!
Try running the command from a terminal emulator. If that works we know gscript is the problem (in which case I can tell you a work around).
If it still doesn't work maybe your rom doesn't support it (I use cyanogenmod and it works fine for me.).
Edit: double check gscript is set to 'allow' in superuser.

Not for me. It must be different on different roms.
Are you using a sense rom?
By terminal emulator, do you mean an adb shell from a command prompt on P.C........Or do you mean something that runs on the phone?

Update
Have found a solution (sort of!). Have installed busybox and have created a gscript script as follows....
busybox poweroff -d 10 -f
This works and powers the phone off after 10 seconds. The reason for the 10 second delay is to give the system enough time to unmount filesystems and stop services. An ordered shutdown if you like.
Thing is....Is this what actually happens? I mean the poweroff command in busybox doesn't go through the init system. So, is it a "clean, ordered" powerdown???? It switches back on ok afterwards and everything seems to work.
But the question is am I risking corrupting the filesystem by shutting down in the way?

Unable to perform an adb backup with Jellybean?

Hello,
I have the GSM Gnex running Jellybean build JRO03C. The device is not rooted and the bootloader is still in its factory state.
I'm trying to do a backup with adb and it acts like it's working, but no backup file is generated. I'm using Linux with the latest android SDK platform-tools.
When I run:
sudo ./adb backup –apk –shared –all –f test_backup.ab
I am prompted to unlock my screen and confirm the backup. I do not enter a password and initiate the backup on the handset. Then the backup app disappears and I see the home screen, with a small notification along the bottom of my screen that says "Backup Starting..." and then about two seconds later "Backup finished". Clearly it should take longer than that to run, and no backup file gets generated.
I went through this process fine on a Verizon Gnex running Ice Cream Sandwich, so I have to wonder if something about Jellybean is the issue.
Can anyone suggest something for me to try to resolve this?
Thanks,
Scott
Maybe add a path to the backup file name(?)
Specifying a full or relative path to the -f option makes no difference. Thanks for the quick reply, though.
According to this thread it should work on JB so I'm not sure what the issue might be
