Best is Baked Snacks or DamageControl
Me personally, I've been stuck like glue on cyans latest offerings and just today I ran calkins new rom and I loved it.
Still a DC fan but I got enough love in me for all my ladies.
It's really a matter of preference. I was running Fresh at 0.5.3, then wanted to try something different so i hopped over to DamageControl. As soon as CyanogenMod was released though i've been running his nightly builds & i love them. Best bet is to take a look through all of them & see what it offers that you might want.
Best ROMs
CM6 hands down. Have not flashed anything else after going Stock froyo. You can really tell Sense does slow down the OS. CM6 is only getting better.

I use the Cyanogen 6 RC and have no reservations. Yes, you have to do these fixes immediately after installing and you lose 4G, HDMI output, and the FM radio, but you gain tremendously in the areas of responsiveness and battery life. If you can tolerate the trade-offs, I recommend it wholeheartedly. I've never used EVio, though. (Oh, what a rhyme show!)
I appreciate it guys, are the fixes a big pain in the butt to flash?

The market fix takes a bit of time, but is a one shot deal and is only about half an hour.
I don't use Facebook so I skipped the other one. However, I can't imagine it being worse than the Market fix.
Wasn't the Market fix just a matter of removing the old apk, clearing the data, & loading the new one? If i remember it was only a few cmd's through adb ( very simple to do ).
Also, there's a post on the General board saying the FaceBook sync is fixed without using the "hacked" version.

Are you sure the speedup is related to no-Sense, or is it just FroYo being faster than Eclair? I remember reading somewhere (Engadget?) that Sense slows it down very little, if at all. And FroYo, of course, focused on 5 things, one of them being SPEED.
I'm just not sure that 2.2 w/ Sense would be that much slower than 2.2 w/o Sense. I guess I could try Ava's thing, but I'd rather just wait for DC 3.5...
EViO
just flashed it today and so far I like it over baked snack
cyanogen for life!

I was looking throught the ROM choices for the droid incredible and I noticed a lot of them. I began looking through them and i couldnt decide which one i wanted. I currently have CM6.1 but it keeps looping. Any ideas on which is the best one and why?
I think it really depends on what you're looking for. Cyanogen is a great AOSP-based ROM. If you're looking for a Sense-based ROM, there's Skyraider or Redemptive Revolution. The three ROMs I've mentioned are just a few of MANY. They all bring something good to the table. It all boils down to what your preferences are.
Also, I'm currently running CM6.1 with no problems. You might try wiping your cache and Dalvik and re-flashing.

If there was a "best ROM," everyone would be using it, so it would be the only ROM. What we need are criteria to help you select. Answer my questions below and I'll be able to give you some insight:
-Do you prefer Sense (stock UI), or vanilla UI (like in Cyanogen), or something completely different?
-Rank these three in the order of importance: speed, stability, features.
-Do you want a high degree of customization (above what a stock ROM offers), or do you just want it to work out of the box?
I tried that and it just keeps looping. I would like something that wont brick easy and with some features that i wont have with the stock ROM and pretty fast and smooth. The UI doesnt really matter just as long as its cool and i can add themes and i would perfer some customization. I hope Im not being to picky.

Yes, read the OP threads, since those tell you what each ROM contains. If you are looking for something specific, just flash one of them and use it for a few days. You can always create a nandroid backup of it, and flash the other to test it out.
You aren't really going to know the intricate details of the differences unless you just flash them.
Are you looking for a ROM that has something specific? You will want to look at the Theming threads too, cause there are quite a few themes for both of those ROM's as well. Those threads will also tell you what versions of the ROM it'll work on as well.
Not as of right now. I'm just looking for something thats cool and i can have some fun with. Also how would i know if my radio is on S-OFF?

It actually says in your hboot menu.
Kind of a subjective question haha... but I have been switching back between lous stuff. So redemptive revolution and redemption. The later uses the incredible framework and the first uses the evo framework. Both are super sexy with his kernel.
I thought so. Its on S-OFF but i dont remember doing it ha. and i just installed Redemption ROM v2.3
That's actually what I have been using for the past week and a half, decided to return to it and it's been flawless.
give both evervolv and OMFGB a try. they are two of the current Gingerbread (Android 2.3.2) roms and ive had great luck with both.
Anyone know of any cool themes and what are some awesome things I can do with redemption 2.3

I started off trying to stay stock but rooted. Took off the bloatware. I then decided to take virtuous 3.2 a shot. I really liked it. I have the 2400 battery that with juice defender I was getting almost 36 hours with a good amount of use (txt and web surfing). I was reading up on Incredibly Re-Engineered v2.20 and I love it. Its everything everyone says. Its fast, the battery life is good so far but I am still tweaking it. I am a novice user but i guess it all depends what you want really. Re is solid and I have had VERY little problems.
Incredibly Re-Engineered v2.20 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893233
Running the SkyRaider 3.5 and loving it.
Trying to download the redemption 2.3 to give it a try, but the servers they host it on suck and it says its gonna take 4-6 hours to down load it
I'm currently on 2.3 and I like it. It's smooth and pretty fast. The only thing is that I cannot find any themes for it.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Correct me if I'm wrong but as long as the themes are using the same framework shouldn't they install fine?
thats what i hear but im not 100% sure but i think redemption 2.3 does not have the evo frame work, i think it has its own and i couldnt find many themes for it.
Ultimate Droid is really nice.. Many tweaks for the user to further customize the ROM to your liking.
The cyanogen7 rom (I'm now using build 22) and its been about as solid as I could of hoped it could be. I tried omfgb and it was great as well. But like what others have said, decide what you want out of it and try a few different roms to see what works well for you.

mostly all the roms are very easy to use, i recomend that you try CM7 RC1, i used to like sense but since i flash Cyanogen i never return to sense roms, even leaving on 4G area and now cyanogen almost got 4G fully working, promiss you, you gonna love it
Thanks, sorry for the noob question.

lol. No it does not. It does what any other way of rooting does, it roots it.
But if you don't like clockwork, dload ra's recovery.
Myn's is a pretty cool and easy to use rom, I use it and love it.
Really, anything labeled DEV you should stay away from.
Everything else is mostly the same. I recommend mikfroyo or Myn.
Stick with kernel #15 . It has the least issues in my experience at least

Unrevoked roots your phone just like any other way, except faster and less hassle. The only real difference is if you need to flash a splash screen.
How do I do a full wipe like they advise?
Might be best to ask these in the Q&A forum and not in Android Development.

Welcome to the crack... the best thing to remember is BACK UP (NAND) BEfore you flash.. as long as you do this, there is very little you can do to REALLY mess up your phone. Just learn to WIPE, and WIPE SOME MORE..
One last "noob" advice.. Buy titanium back up... it will save you MASS amounts of time if you do it right. Feel free to PM me if you have questions. be more than happy to help!
I have been rooting now for almost 2 months and I have noticed that I am always trying to find and use the latest and greatest ROM. The problem is, I can't figure out the "greatest" part.
I will flash from ROM A and then the next day I will flash to ROM B then another day ROM C, both Sense and AOSP ROM's.
I don't know what it is but I just can't seem to stick with a ROM for more then a few days without feeling the twitch or urge to flash to something else.
So, anyone else ever have this issue? If so, how did you fix it?
I am loving all of these ROM's. It's like an all you can eat buffet with all these ROM's and I can't fill my plate.

Yeah it is stressful isn't it lol. I blame it on my ADD.
I used MIUI as my first ROM and loved it. Then started jumping around trying out others as I got more familiar with the rooting stuff.
I tried last weeks MIUI and I kept getting so many force closes (even after full wipes and 2 different fresh installs).

Yeah I didn't root my phone since I got it (June 4) and I didn't root until late August and I was happy with all my apps and stuff but then I root. Try fresh, calk, cm6, virus, and kept bouncing myn came out it with his rom and I was happy for like 2 weeks (thought I found the right one) then they got the HD working and miui and start flashing again like crazy, barnacles, sprints lovers, mik froyo, miui, and any other rom, and I haven't recover since then Mm my last resort would be unroot cause when I get a ron for over a week something brakes (besides myns, calk) and flash another one and some other rom comes out lol, well at least we got a great community I don't know what other phone has the same support ( besides nexus one)

No announcement.
But in terms of flashing roms causing trouble?
Not sure how it really can. Directions are easy enough to follow, and nandroid backups are really the only thing that you need to keep in mind.
And cm7 has been pretty good so far, stable, good battery life, etc.
No trouble at all for me.

Almost all of the roms I have played with on my phone are very stable. I have been running Incredibly re-engineered for about 10 to 14 days with no resets or forced closes. Im constantly adding in apps or changing themes and what not. If you want GB pick a rom and go for it.
Well to be honest there is no polished GB ROM.
If you're the type to look for a one-time update, I'd wait a few more weeks.
As for ROM's causing problems.. I've been using SR 3.5 with chad's incredikernel for a couple of months with no problems at all. Battery life is so much better than stock and it runs faster too.
All up to you though, it does take some research to get through all the steps. As long as you take precautions like backing up (takes maybe 2 minutes), the risk is little to none.

Just to answer the question and not start another endless debate... the dev was axed initially for allegedly including warez in a ROM and/or allegedly not crediting the work of others that he used. The subsequent bans were for his creating new accounts to circumvent the original ban. The last time, he undid himself.

I installed it seems pretty good. Got a few questions though I am a relative newbie when it comes to this stuff. There was a GAPPS.zip file with it how do I install that? There is no market and I think that the GAPPS fixes that. It has a meta-inf folder and a system folder inside the zip. Also there is a little Android dude that is looked on the home screen that has little comments is there some way to remove that? Thanks in advance.

OMFGB fo lyfe.
OMFGB is the best ROM I've used. It's close to stock and really fast. I use the newest incredikernel, and it's amazing.
I really like the OMFGB and would like to try it with incredikernel. I have never flashed a kernel. I have a question if I back up my existing OMFGB and decide to go back to it will it have the existing kernel or the new one I flashed? I would guess that since the default kernel was part of the original install it would revert back to that I just want make sure. Also to flash the new kernel I go into recovery, wipe cache,dalvik-cache and then just install the kernel from the sd card zip.
Hello everyone, I'd like to start this out by saying that I hope to not get flamed with this post. I do not own an Incredible (however I have played with MANY roms over the past two years with my various Android Phones). That being said, I've got a very... Well known client (public figure) who uses an Incredible. He has had *nothing* but trouble with it, especially since after the Gingerbread update (low storage space issues, needed to restore phone more than once, etc etc).
He is talking about getting an iPhone, but I would like him to get the "pure" Android experience before he makes a definitive decision. Essentially, he is tired of all the bugs and wants something that "just works".
My question to you guys:
Without me having to go through countless pages upon pages of posts, what in your guys' opinion is the best "stock" (whether that be CM7 or AOSP ROM) for the Incredible? What bugs (there area always bugs in ROMS right?) should I expect from the ROM and what should I notify him of in advance?
At this point in time, i'd say anything is better than stock gingerbread with HTC bloat that screws everything up constantly.
I just really need to make sure I put a solid ROM on his phone so that A) He will be happy and B) I will not be discredited on the air to hundreds of thousands of listeners.
Again, i'm not looking to be flamed for "not searching". I run a business, I do not have time to go through every single AOSP/CM thread to see every minute bug that is reported. Also, since this is not my phone, and he is a very busy person, I will have limited time to get this "right". I am just merely looking for your recommendations and experiences.
Thank you in advance everyone!
CM7 if you want a full pure android experience. If you want Sense, try one of the stock Sense roms that gets updated (Not mine. My inc died ) like Stock+ or McSense. Best of luck with your client! Don't let him switch to an iphone lol
Very few bugs (If any) on these. I can provide links if needed

Excellent thank you. I was leaning towards getting away from Sense entirely (AOSP or CM7) because he is absolutely sick of the way HTC has treated his stock incredible. All of these bugs are simply inexcusable. I know that the versions of Sense here on XDA most likely do not get the low storage issue... But i'd rather get him on pure Google. Them upgrade him to ICS when that hits
CM7.1, definitely. Mine's stable as a rock. It's a lot more stable than ANYTHING I've messed with on it, including stock.
I'd recommend putting CM7.1 on it until the Galaxy Nexus comes out, then convince the client that they need it.

I know previously on CM7 builds (not for the Incredible) i've had broken wifi at times, broken GPS, etc, etc. As long as this is "rock" solid like you say... I'd say that is the most viable option! Thanks man!

No bugs that I know of. I only ran it for a couple of days though. The nightlies tend to fix any bugs, but may have bugs of their own.
Bugless Beast is an aosp alternative to CM. It still runs on nightlys but the latest build is like 99% working and is rock solid. Stock GB.
Wtf is an iPhone.

Bugless Beast is the best AOSP option you can get. So smooth and fast. I haven't had any issues so far.

Just wondering also, is there a solid MIUI build for the incredible? Just curious because I know that really impresses people as well lol!
CM7.1 is my vote. McSense if going the sense route.
I've not tried bugless beast yet simply because I love the ring lockscreen that the CM team cooked up. I also love the theme chooser that CM7 has.

Yeah. I personally don't like MIUI, but if you check their website, they have the latest build up. The last one I tried had a few minor bugs, but not bad. I'm sure they have been fixed though.
Cm 7.1. With the flashable adrenaline mod and incredikernel. Its been rock solid for me for almost a month.
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
Root that thing and throw CM7 on it. They wont complain anymore. Ive been doing CM7 since it came out for the DInc and it has only gotten better. 7.1 is incredibly (pun intended) stable. And runs very smoothly. I think its probably more stable than stock. My DInc used to restart on its own all the time. I have not had that happen once with CM7. Battery life is great. With heavy texting, email, facebook, reddit usage. I get thru a day and usually have some juice left over. It can get to around 18% but still would last overnight if i forgot to plug it in, and still be at 18% in the morning!
Mine flies with CM7 and hasn't had any problems. My sister also has a DInc. She has been experiencing the low memory problem, I finally talked her into letting me root it and Rom it. CM7 is the way to go for a flawless experience. It is a little tidius to flash CWM and downgrade using ADB. It actually really inst necessary to downgrade and get s-off. I was able to install CWM on her phone and flash CM7 and gapps without a hitch. You have to use unrevoked 3.22 exe and do a custom recovery in administrator mode. (there is a write up somewhere here.)
after CWM was installed I flashed CM7. and it works great with s-on. The only time i think there would be a problem is if you wanted to flash an unsigned rom. but CM7 is signed so no biggy.
I will be sad to let my DInc go when I upgrade to either a galaxy nexus or a rezound in the next few months.
Good luck.
Use Bugless Beast if you want him to stay on Android, otherwise there is a highly underrated ROM called IncDeck 1.3... It's probably on the second page of the forums but that is the single best pure google ROM. The reason no one posts anything to the forum is because they have no issues to speak of lol.
Edit: I typed this from my droid 2... but I got it on friday lol. I'm not just talking out of my ass.

Excellent thank you for the suggestions everyone! I have to say, the Incredible userbase is much more friendly and forthcoming than many others I have encountered here on XDA (coughSamsungDevicescough)!
As of right now, I am leaning towards Bugless Beast, as I really want him to be impressed by the speed. Also, since he wants things to "just work" I think the less options (like those extras presented in CM7) the better.
Should I worry about the rooting process for the Incredible with the Gingerbread update? Do I need to downgrade firmware, etc?
Also, I know right now he is using stock Verizon VVM... Is that an issue to get working on this?... I may try to convert him to Google Voice if that is the case.
Thanks again, you guys rock!
I would possibly suggest using the ext4 no limit mod as you had said he was getting the storage full message.

I was hoping that would be resolved by getting off of stock gingerbread alone? I've met numerous people with this issue... Even though their phones have HUGE amounts of free space, the Incredible reports that their storage is full. This results in FC's getting no emails etc. I've tied it to the HTC mail app, the Peep app, and a few other programs. If you clear cache/data it is a temp fix but then it will occur again at some point, much to their frustration.

People have had success downgrading to 2.2 with THIS.
As for VVM, I'm not quite sure if it works on AOSP so it may be better to put him onto Google Voice. It's free and it is much easier to use.

The full storage error is what many Inc users that updated to the GB 2.3.4 update faced. That particular update screwed up a lot of peoples phones but after rooting and flashing a different ROM, he should be fine.
One final issue i've had... This client has always saved his contacts as "phone contacts" rather than "google contacts". Does anyone know of an app that will batch upload them to Google?

Use Backup Assistant and backup all their contacts then login to MyVerizon and export contacts to a csv file. From there you can import then into your Google account.
I made that mistake when first rooting my phone. Never again...lol
