First of all, I didn't figure this out but got the resolution thanks to a post by vaelek. Thanks vaelek!
If you have to reselect your launcher when you press the Home button after using the fast application switcher (long press on Home button), the problem is not the ROM you're using... it's the latest update of Qik.
Simply uninstall Qik and the issue goes away. Simple as that.
Thanks!!!!!!!! It worked like a charm
Why not just uninstall any home apps that aren't going to use... I remove everything except LauncherPro Plus. It never asks for a default because theres only 1.

If you're on a rom w/ sense and you would like to use Launcher Pro, I'm guessing that isn't an option. My brother was having this same issue and after he uninstalled Qik everything is fine. He's using a ROM that has 2 launchers pre-installed.

because even if you do uninstall home apps that aren't used, you still get asked if you want to use the stock launcher or launcherpro. also, not everyone knows how to remove the stock launcher.
To uninstall any system apps, I suggest using Titanium Backup. and going into the Backup/Restore tab and just find what you don't want, and just uninstall.
I can also verify that installing qik does indeed fix this...
I was wondering what was causing this. Issue resolved after Qik was uninstalled, thanks for posting that.
i just removed launcher pro.

Hey,
I found this video on youtube:
On the left it shows the Galaxy S without TouchWiz.
So it seems possible to disable TouchWiz.
Can you confirm that?
could that be one of the launchers installed?...looks nice though
I think like the poster of the video has written, it's the app LancherPro
thanks for confirming that u need to read up more.
Just an alternative launcher as ADW or LauncherPro...
Touchwiz is still probably running in processes...
oh thanks,
I havn't read the comments.
its launcherpro beta...just downloaded it, seems very nice

But will it disable touchwiz, or will that run in background and eat power from the battery, if so, it's no point running an extra UI on top of touchwiz.
for now, just remove all widgets from TW, and reduce all the screens available. Then run ADW or LP...the battery drain from TW is actually pretty negligible.
LauncherPro works great
I have installed LauncherPro. Works really great. I made it default application for home button and killed the default launcher service in the taskmanager. After rebooting all lag in opening applications was gone and the default launcher didn't started Now only LauncherPro working...
I'm expecting my phone tomorrow and I'd also like to get rid of the samsung interface. Launcherpro looks good. Does anyone know if Beautiful Widgets will work on this phone? (levelupstudio.com/widgets/weather)
Will you lose things like swipe and layar when you you install an app like that? And sorry for the noob questions, this is my first android phone.
Beautiful Widgets is running great on mine with launcherPro.

Then you need to get yourself a better task manager My recommendation would be an app called task killer.
Launcher Pro really is amazing.
Hmmm, and how to enable the TW Launcher again in case it's not automatically started after a reboot?

Thanks
I'm using LP and after i read this topic i went to
Setteing > Applications > Manager applications
then change the filter to all and scroll down to TwLancher
then u can Force close it BUT! i think this will effect other parts coz as we all know we use TW in the contacts list, call log and the dailer.
So after u close it u cant use this features like swipe to call or swipe to msg and i cant live without them , well thats wt happened with me, i swipe but it do nothing! and after i relaunch it it didnt work also so i restart my phone and its ky now
so if u use them "there r diffident dailers if u like to use" dont swich off ur TW launcher.
As my title states I've lost the Stock Launcher option...
I uninstalled a 3rd party launcher, and since then I've not had the option to use the Stock Android Launcher...
When I turn off Sense and go back to the home screen, Sense just starts back up.. I know longer get the Option screen to choose which to open...
How do I get this back?
Thanks!
If the only launcher you have on there is Sense you won't get an option as far as I know. If you had just installed one third party one and then uninstalled it there is no more choice.

before installing that third party app I used to have the option for the Stock Android launcher...i'd disable Sense by going to Settings from the home scren, and choosing Applications, then choosing Sense, and force closing it, and de-selecting it as default... then when I'd press the Home button I'd get a choice "Android Launcher" or "Sense"...I no longer get this choice...
I'm totally new to Android.. I came from WInMo and there I'd just go to the registry to fix the problem
I have No idea what to do!
Well shows what I know being new to Android as well. Didn't realize that. Thanks.
Try going into the menu, settings, applications, manage applications and then going to HTC sense and clearing its defaults. If you have another launcher installed it should come up now when you press the home button.

LOL I have been doing that..
Before I installed that third party app i would have two options, Sense and Android Launcher..with Android Launcher being the Stock launcher that you get on the nexus one... I would have no Launchers installed...
Evidently you all don't knwo you can Disable Sense and go to stock... I just want to go to stock again...

Anyone using Nova? Having issues with it?
I installed Nova started setting it up, seemingly no issues adding widgets, moving icons, applying theme etc until I try to use the "Messaging" app (Not Message+). Nova says "App isn't installed". I have no issues getting to it via home launcher and the Messaging app works fine. Haven't had any other issues. I cleared app cache and data, tried uninstalling/reinstalling and even did a factory reset since I've had the thing less than 24 hours all to no avail. Any ideas? Anyone else seeing anything similar?
edit: fwiw, it's the Verizon version.
2nd edit: A temporary workaround - To anyone still having this issue I created a workaround using tasker. I just made a task that was "open messaging app" and placed a widget in nova. I set the icon to be the stock messaging app icon and I don't know any different.
I had the same problem. I gave up and stuck with the stock Launcher. I even tried making an activity short cut in Nova and it still said app not installed.
VZW here too.
Same thing on my VZW G4 as well. I tried the Google Now Launcher and the messaging app loaded just fine. I switched back to stock though because the GNL icons were too big.
Very strange but glad to know I'm not alone. I'm using stock now as well, it's really not that bad, just not as customizable. Hopefully it's just a bug that's easily fixed.
Did you do any kinda of restore, works fine on Nova and Tmobile
having this issue as well. going to try to send a bug report to the devs that make nova.
on verizon g4.
Sent a message to nova people.... We will see.

So is Messages+ ok? just another messages app isn't?
I'm also having the same issue with third party launchers. I left a review on Nova. I don't like Verizon's messaging app. I prefer the stock SMS app.
Remove non-working messaging icon from desktop.
Drag the working messaging icon from the app drawer to the desktop.
Done :good:
Having same issue.
And app doesn't work from App drawer or replacing shortcut on home screen.
Nova does not recognize the LG Messaging app at all.

Any word back, Valkyrie? I'm wondering if they'll just say it's a vzw/LG issue.
Having the same problem on Action Launcher and I think I know what it is related to. I had an LG G3 and used the LG Backup app to backup my old phone and restore it to the G4 when I got it last week. Action Launcher had a shortcut on the desktop and in the drawer to the stock Messaging App on the G3, and so when restored, it is looking for that file rather than the new Messaging app on the G4. Of course the stock LG launcher is all new for the G4 and so its shortcuts were not restored from my old backup and so they still work. In fact, if I install a new launcher I've never used it works fine (I just installed Go Launcher and it works) because I'm not restoring data. However, both launchers I previously had on my G3 (Action and Nova ) have this problem. I'd bet that everyone with this problem restored their phone or just their launcher from a backup somehow. I'd bet that if I could somehow remove and reinstall the stock messaging app it might work again, but how could you do that without root? Anyone more knowledgeable than me have a thought about that?
No restore here. Brand new phone and clean installs from play store for the apps. I formatted the sd card so there isnt even any old data on there. I think it's something else. Someone else said they were able to get it to work with go launcher as well.
just to chime in i have the same problem, I got around to fully setting up my device and i use google messenger and it works fine, yet still the LG messaging app still doesn't work. Verizon version here as well.
Hi to all!
Simply question: I want to remove the google assistant in the bottom corners of the homescreen, so i go settings>apps & notifications>default apps>assist & voice input>assist app and i select none and till here nothing to say. The problem is that everytime i reboot or switch off the phone, google assistant return as default app instead of "none" and it's a lot weird. There's a way to definitely remove the app? i don't want to uninstall or disable it, only remove from the corners. Maybe a fake app to put there instead of google. Thank you!

If you're rooted, just freeze it with titaniumbackup. If not rooted, use adb to disable.
Edit... N/m Check the launcher settings? I use nova launcher so never seen it.
Which os are you on?
when I follow that route (settings>apps & notifications>default apps>assist & voice input>assist app) I just have Google, no option for "none".
i use the MS launcher and I've never had the Google assistant on the home screen, switched back to the 1+ default and it wasn't there either
I'm on stock oos 10.0.12, I've taken a screen.. and I'm using Nova launcher

I'm not sure.. I have mine set to 'none' as I don't use the assistant. I haven't had any issues. In fact, it's been that way since I set up the phone some 9 months ago.
Hey everyone,
I'm running into a weird problem lately. I have a custom homescreen with Nova Launcher Pro and whenever I click the Recent Apps button. I close all recent apps and it force closes Nova Launcher and reactivates Samsung One UI. It does this every single time until I hit the Home button and it goes back to Nova Launcher. Anyone know what could be causing this weird issue. I only had this issue recently so part of me thinks it's from a firmware update. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Try clearing the system cache on boot menu.
Try clearing associated apk caches, data if need be.
If you migrated from Pie to Q time probable time to reload...

Yeah I've wiped cache partition from boot menu (holding power and volume up button during restart). I've also wiped cache and data from both Samsung One UI and Nova Launcher and still nothing.

You can try a hard reboot but that seldom works.
Look at clearing cache/data of the related system apks.
I tried a few launchers and ran into issues with all. Be very wary if you see any system instabilities as boot crash may be next.
One launcher (not Nova) boot looped my 10+ twice.
The Samsung launcher is fast, rock solid stable and allows for a lot of customization.
After fighting with 3rd party launchers that were slower, used more resources/battery, not as stable, loss of some functionality etc... it wasn't worth it.
You could uninstall and reinstall the Nova app and see if that works, I will probably get told that if you wipe the cache it the same thing. But I've done it before with other apps and it has fixed issues. I use Nova beta on my note 10 and I've never had any issue with it, so you could also try that. Good luck [emoji106]

Double check to make sure Nova is set as your default Launcher.
Settings -> Apps -> Default Apps -> Home
I've had this happen a couple times with Microsoft Launcher after an update was pushed.
You may have to set it to OneUI then back to Nova.

^This^ but it may not work.
Reload the OS, go hog wild or... do what I did after a 3rd party launcher boot looped my 10+ twice.
Use the native launcher.
Fast, very stable and very customizable if you use the available free themes, icon packs and the Good Lock family of apps. Throw in a custom background with Color Wallpaper and done.

Not sure if you resolved this or not but I just ran into this issue on my Note 20 Ultra. Fix was the same as above where I set the Samsung UI back to default, then switched it back to Nova Launcher and then did a hard restart with volume down and power button. Note: did not work until I did the hard restart

Yah!
It may return though. Hard resets shouldn't be needed. There may be a firmware and/or hardware incompatibility present.
Watch it closely for instability as this is a class of app that can boot loop the device.
Never had Nova do it but another launcher did, twice. Not fun.
Have you set app power management for nova?
boot cache menu clear, also most are gone now but i like cda not on app store, and leave shut down for a few minutes, Mine on Nova would not show apps if i pulled tab on apps still open in background, then just quit, did above and havent had issues. Tis the season
Experiencing this issue with Nova Beta on my Z Fold 2 as well surprisingly its working great on my og Fold.
I had the same issue on a Galaxy M31, issue has been resolved by clearing the data of the One UI Home App under Settings - Apps - Show system apps - One UI Home - Storage - clear data
I do have same issue with Poco F2 pro (K30), although POCO Launcher is still installed (even not deactivated), if I'll choose as default Nova, the recent app button (square) not reacting at all. Multiple press lead to error message "POCO Launcher crashed".
I used the recent apps to clean them from mem (hope I say that right).
did anyone found a way how to fix the not working recent app button on custom launcher (in my case Android 11)?
the suggestions above (including M$ Launcher did not worked for me)
also is there any other way how to delete/kill apps from mem - other than use recent apps (square) button?
thanks for suggestions.

Are there any goodlock modules that can make my icons round? I hate these default icons. The main reason why I would want to use a custom launcher...but don't, because like you already stated, one ui launcher is just fast and very stable.
