And what may the answer be? Maybe it can help someone else
i installed the connection manager manually as suggested here
I'm in Bahrain. I have a GSM unlocked GN that I brought with me from the States. Unless I flash a ROM that is CM10, I do not receive data. I made sure that I was using the same radio on all ROMs. XXLF1 is the one working on CM10. I downloaded it to reflash other ROMs and still nothing.
There's nothing wrong with CM10. Just want to try out other ROMs. I'm a flashaholic!!
Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks in advance!

The ROM's you are trying to flash probably don't have the correct soon settings for your operator.
Usually the web site from your operator have info on the correct settings.
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus

It is the APN setting.
Go to Settings->More->Mobile Network->Access Point Names
Create new settings according to your carrier. One for data and the other for mms. Use "carrier" field as name. Leave unspecified fields to blank (not set/unspecified).
<apn carrier="BATELCO BH" mcc="426" mnc="01" apn="internet.batelco.com" user="internet" password="internet" type="default,supl" />
<apn carrier="BATELCO BH MMS" mcc="426" mnc="01" apn="mms.batelco.com" user="mms" password="mms" mmsc="http://192.168.36.10/servlets/mms" mmsproxy="192.168.1.2" mmsport="9201" type="mms" />

Flash yakju https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#yakju . It should have more apn entries.
Hello guys/gals.
I want to use AOSP ROM as a daily driver, but some problems don't allow me.
And some Japanese users also says about them.
Here are the problems.
#1: APN settings are written in "apns-conf.xml" file, but there's no APN settings in settings app, so I have to edit it manually.
#2: Phone number in the settings shows "unknown" on almost every AOSP ROMs. And in 4.2.x ROMs, there's no settings to modify(I know it's normal in 4.2.x ROMs)
#3: SoftBank Mail app can't receive any mails on WiFi because setup to do this fails.
#4: SoftBank WiFi spot doesn't work because setup fails.
#5: Some apps from SoftBank (e.g. Smart Security powered by McAfee, Internet SagiWall, etc) suddenly stop working and they say "SIM card authentication failed".
(#3 & #4 are 4.2.x only problems)
EDIT: Probrem #3 & #4 were caused by the apps that can't used on 4.2.x ROMs. So I have to wait until the carrier solves.
I personally think RIL or something related with it cause these problems because they never happen on any types/versions of Sense ROMs.
How can I fix them?
Any thoughts are welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Hi. Sorry for bumping this thread up, but I want you to help us!
And I found a fact about these problem. Please let me tell you...
Some CM 10.1 based AOSP ROMs (I think ALL) have wrong APN settings of andglobal.softbank.ne.jp in /system/etc/apns-conf.xml.
Code:
For example: in case of CodeFireX SR12
[COLOR="Red"]WRONG[/COLOR](original):
<apn carrier="Softbank(internet)" mcc="420" mnc="20" apn="andglobal.softbank.ne.jp" user="andg001softbank" password="pumbbghkpgyysxa" mmsc="http://mms/" mmsproxy="andmms.softbank.ne.jp" mmsport="8080" type="default,mms" />
[COLOR="Green"]CORRECT[/COLOR]:
<apn carrier="Softbank Internet" mcc="420" mnc="20" apn="andglobal.softbank.ne.jp" user="andg001softbank" password="pumbbghkpgyybsxa" mmsc="http://mms/" mmsproxy="andmms.softbank.ne.jp" mmsport="8080" type="default,mms,hipri" />
And some AOKP based ROMs(also I think ALL) don't have it! (there are no APN settings of andglobal.softbank.ne.jp!)
I tried modifing apns-conf.xml before flashing CodeFireX SR12, but it doesn't help.
So I think the problems are not only from apns-conf.xml.
Please help us.
Thanks in advance.
OK people, it took a good bit of time to do this and the help of a few devs to figure this out (not to mention it took me about a month and I had to completely brick an AS990 to finally get this) to get this working right!
After days of testing, I'm happy to say everything works as it should!
I know there is no development for the AS990 and as far as I (and the others that helped me) know, there is no way to get and custom recovery on the AS990 except for this guide!
Disclaimer : I am not responsible for what you do to your phone! If you brick it doing this, you must not have followed these steps right! Please know this will void your warranty!
So here it is!
The first thing you need to do is the obvious, root your device! I used iroot to root the AS990! I will post the link to it once I find it but a quick Google search should do you some good here.
Next thing I did was the crazy part! I used this link and followed its instructions to the letter and be sure to backup you apn-config.xml located in /system/etc/ and use the change apn app from the play store and write down all the info for your apns before you continue (this is a must to get data, including lte and mms!)...don't skip anything this guide says...you will turn your AS990 into an LS990 following this link...Again, follow the instructions to the letter!!! Don't cry to me if you don't follow it exactly!!! I have used this method on 2 AS990's and 2 US990's!!! (Yes, this does work for the US990 as well but I don't know if you will get lte as my uscc sims are not active).
https://m.reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/3if357/lg_g3_as990_to_ls990/
After you do this you will not have service while on stock sprint rom, but don't fear, Tator is here!
Now that you are on stock sprint with your AS990, you again, need root...use whatever rooting method you want for sprint...I used the one click root for lg g3. Now that you have root use flashify to download and flash twrp for the LS990. After you have twrp working, you will want to pull the modem.bin from the AS990 tot using the tot extractor. After you pull this file from the tot, you will rename it to modem.img.
Link for the AS990 tot that I used : http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-...e-as99010a-t3183928/post62444120#post62444120
I used the windows cmd prompt and did the "ren modem.bin modem.img" (without quotes) to rename the file after I extracted it.
Link for the tot extractor : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600575
Then move the modem.img to the internal sdcard of the phone. Then using terminal emulator, I did the following
su
dd if=/sdcard/modem.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm__sdcc.1/by-name/modem
That will flash your stock AS990 modem back on the phone (which is needed so everything works right).
After you have done all this bs, you are free to flash any aosp LS990 rom you would like to run! (I have only tested aosp because its all I run on my phone) just be sure to move your apn-config.xml to /system/etc and then enter your apn info you had written down (you may have to use change apn from the play store to do this depending on what rom you have flashed) and you should be good to go!
I will edit this and organize it more later because I'm pressed for time right now! I will also give credit to those who helped me through this process! Any questions, please post here and I will do my best to help anyone who needs it...I know this is poorly written for now but again, I'm pressed for time! If there is anything you don't understand about this how to, please be patient with me as I make revisions throughout the day!

If I forgot anyone, please inform me. I will always give proper credit where its due!!!
If you have the courage to try this with other devices, cdma only, please post your success stories so that it can help others with this! We are all one community and it would be good to help those in need!
If you post a success story, please share any "extra" steps you took (if you took any) so that it may help others!
If you didn't take any extra steps, then good deal. I can only vouch for this working 100% with the AS990 though I'm "almost" positive this work the same with the US990

A little detail here you need to use an apn backup and restore app because not all carriers use the same layout for the apns found that out the hard way using another method and ended up having to restore my old rom on my as990 and pulling the apns again.

Just root the stock rom, use root explorer (or any other file explorer that uses root) and copy the apn_config.xml to your computer or external sdcard...also use change apn from the play store and write all that info down so that when you flash an ls990 aosp rom, you can add those apns in either with the built in apns in setting, mobile data or use change apn from the play store to add them...then movebthe apn_config.xml back in /system/etc

You can get service on stock if you use my guide but I can't get the com.android.phone app to work. Otherwise text and internet are working on stock sprint already. You don't have to modify the modem for it to work only modify the build.prop. I'm working on getting the rest to work at the moment.

I had everything working without the modem for the as990, but the device would crash is I made or received a call...flashing the modem fixed everything for me...I'm on ntelos...while on stock, download the change apn app and look at your apns that way...write that info down...very important step in getting lte and MMS working
And the info you sent is the xml file...just back it up so you can move it to the sprint rom...its not as important as writing down the stuff you see in the change apn app though

Good...we need as many contributions as we can for the as990 users...using change apn don't back them up...it allows you to edit and input your apns...that is a must for aosp...don't know about stock as I don't ever run stock or any variation of stock...I'm aosp all the way
And even though it will most likely say you don't have access to the apn settings in mobile networks, make the changes anyway...they "should" stick...they do for me as long as I put in the correct apn...if I mis-type something important, it won't stick...don't try and change the MCC or MNC because then your changes won't stick...it should get those values from the sim
