Android on your Windows Mobile HTC Device...
Supports Blackstone, Diamond, Diamond 500, Fuze, Raphael, Raphael 800, Rhodium, Tilt 2 & Topaz
This thread is dedicated to FroYo, and NOT Eclair releases!
First things first, this post is PURELY an instruction guide for noobies that aims to reflect the latest status and downloads (give or take a day).
I am not an Android developer, I do not create any of this software... this is done by far more talented people than I. This thread is purely to collate the latest info for Android on Windows Mobile HTC devices and make deploying Android on your device as simple as possible.
If you have new information that should be added to the guide (and is relevant for ALL folks) then feel free to add to the thread and I'll update the OP frequently.
These opening few posts should have ALL the latest info you need to get started (no need to trawl through the threads).
The only time you 'might' need to look in the thread is for 'breaking news' info that is no more than a day old...i.e. The Opening Post is the place!
Credits: There are too many to mention, and many are unknown, but basically the guys poring Android to our devices should be thanked, along with all those making the effort to help others test, document, or use their work (along with those who provide answers to the same questions, time and time again). These are the guys who deserve the credit. From memory...

Rootfs - 20100828-c29a486
System - XDAndroid 2.2.AOSP.3.9.10.RC.2.2
Kernel - 20100830_01302 (no debugging)
Headset support - Credits to Oliwe
3D support for Blackstone/Diamond/Raphael (Rhodium/Topaz have no 3D)- Credits to Oliwe
Gallery working - Credits to Oliwe
Touchscreen Calibration is back! During first clean install, touch each of the five calibration points CAREFULLY to calibrate your screen before installation completes. Plus, general touchscreen fixes and power off support - Credits to Oliwe
Back to basics System... stock Android system.
Takes about 5 mins usage before the system starts to speed up, so expect it to be a little sluggish for the first 5 mins.
None 3D devices may not show boot screen, so please be patient during install (screen will show black)
I'd advise that once installed, you also launch SpareParts, and configure the window animations etc to 'fast'
There is a chance that after installation, some Startup.txt settings MAY be incorrect for your device. If you discover any mistake, PLEASE let me know, I will correct asap. I need your help on this guys.
How To Install (CAB Version)
Step 1 - Prepare your SD Card
Find a nice clean SD card to load Android on.
You can either format your card to get it entirely clean, or you can leave all the files you may already have on there.
*Warning* - If you have valuable data on your card, back it up. Android is usually safe, but if you can't afford to lose the data on your card, don't risk it!
Some cards have difficulty working, there is a POSSIBILITY this is due to the formatting of the card. If in doubt, format to FAT32, not FAT16
Step 2 - Download and install the CAB
Download and install the following 'full package' cab (a collection of ALL the files you'll need to run Android on your device) by clicking the XDAndroid Cab button below.
You MUST install on the Storage Card. The cab file will take a couple of minutes to install Android. Please be patient.
For those that are interested the cab files does the following:
- Installs Android in the root of the SD Card
- Deploys the correct Startup.txt for the device (the user can choose their device type)
- Adds a high res icon for Android in the root of the SD Card
- Installs a shortcut in Program Files named "Android" (launches Haret.exe)
- Installs the high res icon in the registry for WM6.5 users
Step 3 - Run Android
Android is now installed... So launch 'Android' from your Program Files menu in WinMo. Your phone should reboot into Android with 2 quick vibrations.
Have patience... the first time you do this can take a LONG time (3 mins or more). During the first boot on SOME devices, you will be asked to calibrate the screen. This is very similar to Windows Mobile screen calibration (except it's in text mode).
The reason the first boot takes longer is that Android is 'preparing' your device for the first time.
How To Install (ZIP Version)
Step 1 - Prepare your SD Card
Find a nice clean SD card to load Android on.
You can either format your card to get it entirely clean, or you can leave all the files you may already have on there.
*Warning* - If you have valuable data on your card, back it up. Android is usually safe, but if you can't afford to lose the data on your card, don't risk it!
Some cards have difficulty working, there is a POSSIBILITY this is due to the formatting of the card. If in doubt, format to FAT32, not FAT16
Step 2 - Download and extract the ZIP
Download and install the following 'full package' zip(a collection of ALL the files you'll need to run Android on your device) by clicking the XDAndroid zip button below.
You MUST unzip to the ROOT of the Storage Card. The zip file will take a short while to extract. Please be patient.
Once you've extracted the zip:
- Click Auto-Setup.exe to configure XDAndroid for your particular device
Step 3 - Run Android
Android is now installed... So launch 'Android' from your Program Files menu in WinMo. Your phone should reboot into Android with 2 quick vibrations.
Have patience... the first time you do this can take a LONG time (3 mins or more). During the first boot on SOME devices, you will be asked to calibrate the screen. This is very similar to Windows Mobile screen calibration (except it's in text mode).
The reason the first boot takes longer is that Android is 'preparing' your device for the first time.
If you want to exit Android and go back to Windows Mobile, then you need to shut down / reboot. To do so with the latest Android releases, hold down the 'end call' button until you see a menu appear.
If this fails to work, then the only option is remove the battery or press the reset button.
Known Issues
Many things are still not working properly, and the developers are fully aware of 99% of them.
SDCard - Most SDCards are working, but if you the 'waiting for SDCard' message, you should try one of these fixes (and please let us know if it works)
Fix 1: Format your card with this tool http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/
Fix 2: Edit your startup.txt file and add these entries to your cmdline:
set cmdline "lcd.density=240 msmts_calib=0x395.0x3c9.0x79.0x77 clock-7x00.a11=500 msmvkeyb_toggle=off pmem.extra=1 gsensor_axis=-2,-1,3
msmsdcc_1bit msmsdcc_fmax=14000000 msmsdcc_nopwrsave"
Fix 3: Tell your wife / girlfriend that you are about to make some modifications to her phone... change the ringtone and steal her old Class 2 SD Card to use with Android. She will never discover what you have done, and if she does, you'll be able to use Android to send texts to your former girlfriends ;-)
SDCard - A few users have claimed to have had trouble using their SD Cards after installing XDAndroid. Some of those have reformatted the SD Card, and it worked, some couldn't recover it. This is a minority of users, but be warned.
Camera - Not working
GPS - working
Battery Status - Highly problematic for most users (don't trust the capacity Android tells you, it's simply up and down a lot, and highly inaccurate)
WiFi - Working for most people, suspected to cause slight heat, definitely drains the battery faster than WinMo.
Audio - Speaker working for most people, microphone can have issues
Deep Sleep - Working for most people, but can have issues waking up (sometimes, it will not wake up)
GPRS - Working
3G - Working for most
PIN Code - Unknown
GSensor - Working (Screen only handles 0 and 270 degrees)
Bluetooth - Experimentally working (don't expect too much, but it's working for a number of users)
OpenGL ES - 'should' be working but only for Blackstone... more to follow soon
USB - Supported, but will NOT operate in mass storage mode. You can charge via USB and you can debug, but forget accessing your files by it.
Headphone Socket - Semi working (see FAQ for details on how to make it work)
Application Errors: It's very common to see 'Application (xxxxxx) is not responding: Force Close or Wait'. Click wait. I do not know the precise reason for this, but from what I can gather, it COULD be related to the slow speed of the SD Card causing the app response times to JUST be a little too slow for Android's liking, thus causing the message. This seems to happen more after bootup or wakeup when the device is busy doing stuff in the background.
Cannot choose ringtones: This is believed to be caused by the media scanner failing (due to discovering some filenames with none English characters). The best option of all is to use a CLEAN SD Card. But, if you insist on hosting other files on the same SD Card, you MUST make sure they have English character filenames.

Zip now available
Cab will be here in the next hour... but...
This is major move from Eclair to FroYo, and it's slightly slower than the Eclair release (so far).
This is normal though, since many of the Eclair release issues where ironed out, but with FroYo we take a small step backwards before we can progress again...
This release is VERY untested... I used it for 30 mins on a Blackstone only... no other devices tested yet

There is newer system version
Hi,
there is new system version:

Hi,
many thanks for quick explanation and I'm sorry for so quick reply
Will be Sense UI included in this build?
Or where can I get Sense UI for Android?
Many thanks

looks like just an update from 2.1 to 2.2 - no bug-fixes or new working features, right?
downloading now to have a play

OMFG!! YES!!
android 2.2 has calendar sync to exchange (2007) natively!. this release has hammered yet another nail into WM coffin!
also it looks like my 2.1 install was broken - seems noticably faster and touchscreen seems to be working a bit more predicably.

sorry but where is the file.

:-D First post, Step 2 -> Biiig black button

sorry being a noob, all done and running.
Damo

Is this version include the chinese language? Thanks for the good work.

No it does not have Sense. Why would you want it?
You can get virtually all the same widgets from other sources. Sense is a massive resource drain (esp on XDAndroid), and on non 3D supported hardware
If you want the flipclock, you can get it from multiple places, the wallpaper, the wallpaper, and similar widgets are all floating around too.

[Project] [15-Nov-2009] Linux Android on Blackstone by #htc-linux team

WARNING!!!! SOMEONE (ME ALSO) LOST THE USE OF VOLUME BOTTONS AND CAMERA IN WINDOWS MOBILE AFTER TESTING THIS ANDROID VERSION, THE ONLY WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM IS A HARD RESET, SINCE WE ARE STILL TRYING TO FIX THIS KIND OF PROBLEMS I SUGGEST YOU TO TRY IT ONLY IF YOU ARE READY TO A POSSIBLE HARD RESET!!!
REMEMBER: ALWAYS WAIT FOR WINDOWS MOBILE TO FINISH HIS BOOTING SEQUENCE BEFORE STARTING HARET.EXE, MIGHT BE THIS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM
Screenshots in the second post (Thanks a lot aavan)
FAQ At 3rd post (thanks a lot Rizlo)
Here's the new Thread a lot of people asked for:
A new project is born to port Android on different htc devices with the same build.
A team of linux experts on #htc-linux is working hard to make it real and i'm trying to keep You updated with it.
Installation:
1- backup your data from yor sdcard to somewhere on your Computer (just to save pictures and music from accidents)
2- Format your sdcard fat32
3- download http://www.cobaltcode.com/fileupload/data/Android/AllInOne/Android-Donut-htclinux-15-11-09.7z (right click and save as) and unzip it in the root of your sdcard
4- copy /startup/blackstone.txt to the root of your sdcard and rename it startup.txt
5- Edit the startup.txt as u prefere (only if You know what You are doing, otherwise just leave it like You found it)
6- A new zimage avaiable here http://glemsom.anapnea.net/android/htc-msm-android/ (the one from Fri Nov 20 23:54:15 2009 +0100 ) unzip and put everything in the root of your sdcard rename the new zImage.20091120_235415 to zImage and u can delete the old modules-2.6.27-00593-g3890096.tar.gz
7- download http://www.cobaltcode.com/fileupload/data/Android/BuildUpdates/rootfs.img-15-11-09.7z unzip it and replace the old rootfs.img
This will fix the recharging problems
8- Go to Windows power settings and uncheck the "Auto adjust backlight" option.
9- Disable PIN on your Windows Mobile
10- run a file explorer and find in the root of your sdcard the file named Haret.exe and launch it
11- Test Android on your HD Blackstone and let us know every little thing to fix
You can contact the team or help us by joining #htc-linux on freenode irc network
Thanks to: phh, yeyoy, klinux, cr2, townkat, auss81, itchy8me and all the other people working on it on #htc-linux and of course You all testing and reporting
In this version:
--- Android 1.6
--- Accellerometer works
--- Bluetooth Works
--- Screen on/off works
--- Telephone, SMS system works (if your sms dont work try to read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433433 maybe u can fix it, anyway let us know if it works)
--- 3G works
--- Internet connection is finally fully controlled by Android and not from startup.txt so is supposed to be easier and working better
--- WiFi working (aparently only WPA2 is working propely)
--- Now power botton is "home botton" short press go to home, long press popup a menu of latest applications used
--- Recharging working
In the next release 3.5 jack entrance for normal Headphones will be fixed
Anyway phh give me the idea to "fix" the problem with turning on screen so hard and loong...
Is not really a fix but is a cheat
Download a terminal from the market or search for "Better Terminal" on google and copy the *.apk file u get into your sdcard in the directory /AndroidApps/ (if there's not that dir just create it) After booting u should find the application in your menu
type:
su
bash
echo 42 > /sys/power/wake_lock (remember to use the "spaces" between 42 and > and /sys...)
To revert the process just soft reset
this makes only the screen to sleep and not the system, makeing the screen faster to wake up, but it will affect your battery life.
It's your choice guys.
I hope we will fix it in next releases

FAQ
Q: If I run Android on my phone, will it wipe out Windows and erase my own brain too? I don't want to forget my mother's name.
A: No. Just soft-reset your device and you will get back to good ol' WinMo.
Q: So I can try out Android with no consequence at all?
A: Not exactly. There is a slight risk that your camera and/or your volume buttons stop working. A hard-reset will fix this anyway.
Q: My phone is stuck at boot, displaying "Waiting for SD Card". Should I commit suicide?
A: No son, just get out of your room and go buy yourself a Class 2 SD Card. Most Class 6 cards have been reported not to work.
Q: It boots! But I can't find a way to enter my SIM unlock code! What's wrong with my life?
A: Just boot Windows and disable the SIM lock. It doesn't work in Android, yet.
Q: My camera flash isn't working anymore
A: Ok, that was a joke. Got it.
Q: My battery lasts 15 seconds.
A: This is an early development stage, so the system is not really optimized for battery life. Uncheck auto-dimming in Windows and install toggledata in Android to save some power. Or keep the darn thing plugged to USB, for crying out loud.
Q: How can I setup my APN?
A: Go to Settings - Wireless controls - Mobile networks - Access Point Names; tap on your home button and on New APN.
Q: I set my APN but it doesn't connect! How can I live with the burden of this endless pain?
A: Reboot and restart Haret. Or try and fondle with the airplane mode, sometimes it works.
Q: I can receive SMS messages but I cannot send any.
A: Known issue, it may be network related. Try this workaround http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433433 . Guy who posts this for the 10000th time doesn't win any prize.
Q: I can receive SMS messages but I cannot send any.
A: I said...
Q: I enabled WIFI but it's not connecting.
A: Try rebooting again. Also, it's been widely reported that it won't work on WEP protected networks, switching to WPA2 could solve the problem.
Q: When my phone goes to sleep mode there seems to be no way to bring it up again. Is it dead?
A: Press the power button. Again. And again. And again andagain andaggggain. Be patient, it will come up eventually.
Q: Android 2.0 is out!
A: We KNOW. Listen and repeat. WE KNOW. But devs are working on 1.6 for now, and getting that to fully work is their goal at the moment.
Q: Why can't we have the Hero skin on our device?
A: This is not really related to making Android work on the HD but anyway... that UI is designed for lower resolution phones. Go on a general Android forum for this kind of things.
Q: Is it gonna rain today?
A: I have to admit it's quite cloudy.

Why "Waiting for SD card" ?
Is my first time to Android linux.
mitikos i've built a .zip with tuxfiles and phh kernel/donut with startup.txt already fixed for blackstone, uploading right now so we have a complete package with everything we need.
If anyone can download it and make a mirror that'll be great, oh and maybe give it a try so we're sure it works, on my phone is working great.
Partial test: this relese is more stable, smoother, and more responsive than Tux' 0.2........
Now, finally, I can resume the LCD on by simply holding the power button......
Bluetooth is active now, but I not tested it yet
APN is now configurable without modifing the startup file, but at the moment I'm not able to start a data session...... maybe my operator WIND?
Screen rotation is fully active but not for the home.
Wifi not yet tested, but I know is still in development.
auss81 for me wind italy connection is working, just create a new apn in the wireless config and put internet.wind as apn, but i've configured it also in the startup.txt, have to try w/o it.

Great work. I was going to make that suggestion.
It's way better to have the same starting package in order to test and check possible issues.
anyone else getting random lockups?
I'm also having problems with turning the screen on again after changed the end button behaviour to make the device sleep. Only a soft reset makes it usable.
Otherwise this is a huge step forward in terms of functionality. Good work to all those involved

Yes i know the turning on screen sometimes is laggy, but is just couse the phone goes in deep sleep, so u hqave to press the bottons many times to weak it up. We will fix it in the newer versions for sure. You dont need to soft reset, just be patient, press the bottons and he's coming back for sure.

NEWS
Hey guys, lot of things happened here is a short summary:
-i've sold my Diamond
-yozgatg released this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623048 (awesome job, i wish i had my diamond...)
-New version of Android: XDAndroid
-This thread won't be followed and updated by me from now on. sry T.T
If you still want to update your diamond, they have plenty of threads about it in Raphael or Blackstone sections which are the same builds with different startup.txt
So, I hope you had a good time with my crappy english writing, I wish you all have soon enough a stable every day use Android on Diamond

you can grab the build of 04 jan 2010 in my 4shared folder: techunter.4shared.com

Now a little explanation on how I proceeded:
3ways of doing it:
I/ Compile it yourself
-> not enough time didn't even tried but you can try here
II/ Download latest image
The packs you can have from sites are generally a stable android release. All the zImage and modules on msm-htc-android sites are all development packs, so choose wisely. Last update doesn't mean best update!
Prerequisite: create a dir name (for example) eclair_fs.
You can also put a Light Rom to make it boot faster or THIS ONE from yozgatg

(autobuild files, thx for posting this!)
you should have something like zImage-modules-DATE_VER.tar
--go to eclair_fs/ and delete the modules-2.6.27-00330-f485082e.tar (name differ with version) and the "zImage" files.
--untar (with winrar or whatever) in your eclair_fs/ the two files.
--rename the zImage.00000000 (figures as the build date) in "zImage" (without quotes).
-- leave the modules-2.6.27-00710-g485083e.tar you have just extracted with the same name.
c)===================
go to eclair_fs/startup-configs and make sure you have a DIAM100.txt (or whatever DIAMx00 you have, retrieve DIAMx00.txt).
*if YES then delete eclair_fs/startup.txt and copy+rename the eclair_fs/startup-configs/DIAM100.txt to eclair_fs/startup.txt.
*if NO then google another package (the one from connect-utb should have one).
d)===================
optional: make your changes in startup.txt
e)===================
delete the data.img file if you have one (when you make changes in your zImage or system.sqsh you have to delete data.img).
f)===================
now your eclair_fs should look like this:

-disabled the PinCode
-Enabled the GPRS Connection (it works for me without this step but sometime not)
-disabled the airplane mode (if you activated the GPRS you should't be in this mode ^^
-disable whatever special state you put your phone in.
i)===================
run /InternalStorage/Haret.exe
Format your internal storage once in fat32, you don't need to format it every time you change between build.

-If you have a problem with the PINCode being always wrong:
Go into WinMo and disable it.
-If you need your APN Profil:
check on your operator's website in the android page like for HTC Magic. exemple for SFR you can get the settings from sfr.fr under "My account" webpage of via their forum.

known issue, sry.

download the package from Connect UTB and copy it directly into your storage card. Its the latest stable. The one I posted here is the latest dev.

I remembered someone asking about getting their outlook contacts onto their device, and noticed that in Contacts there is the option to import/export, so all you need to do is export contacts from Outlook and save the file to your root folder then open contacts in Android and import the csv file.
I came across the ability to program what function the end key can perform the options were along the lines -
1. close program
2. home page
3. close program and home page
4. do nothing
however, I cant seem to find the option and I am not sure if it was an application I was using or a setting function??? Anyone came across this?
Update The setting is in the Spare Parts App

yes, it works...you just have to change the startup file acording to your device.
There is already a startup file for the diamond. This works very well
Dont expect it to be a complete replacement for windows just yet. GPS and Camera do not work but thats minor.
Is it possible to have Swedish keyboard?
Comments from testing?
Android not booting
Android does not boot on my device. It says "failed to find system.img on sdcard".Though a system.sqsh file is present in internal storage.I renamed it to system.img then too it fails with same error message.
interesting, anyone tested?
how about it's performance? smoother than windows 6.5?
mod please delete for double post...
Comments:
Best try for yourself. I found it to be a little annoying to use (much like most Linux machines i've used before). It sometimes seems a little laggy, and I couldnt work out how to turn my phone off since the power button just brings up a menu. Also my phone kept locking and I had to fiddle to get it unlocked again.
I'm not exactly sure how it runs on the phone. If it runs on top of my current rom then my experiences could be down to lack of RAM. When I did a soft reset my Windows ROM booted up and I've been using that until I can get a chance to play again.
Also, I am on O2 UK. I must need to get my 3G settings from somewhere because I couldnt get on the internet under linux.
I will definately be playing some more and will see about using it as a propper phone OS, once I get my contacts on my sim, and I get WWW working. It's very good IMO
It works god but it needs more work. there are problems to get GPRS to work
One good thing is that after a reboot it boots on WM, so you could try android and have your Windows back after a reboot =)
Can't get SMS to work, tried ATcommander.
dieselboy : To turn off the phone, just hold the End button.
so i got it on my diamond and it works rly fine!
is there any way to include htc sense in the android?
It doesn't boot with me.
I use a custom WM6.1 ROM (AZTOR WWE).
I copied all files and updates to the internal storage.
When I start HaRET from the explorer it shows a progressbar saying:
HaRET: Booting Linux ...
on the bottom of my screen is a second titlebar (from Windows) that shows me a Windows Start button, the text 'HaRET Version...' , a keyboard and all the icons I have in my titlebar (reception, volume, 3G icon...)
The progressbar doesn't get past (about) 95% and then everything freezes.
Anyone any idea? Do I need to stop TouchFlo or something?
GPRS and WIFI are unable to work.
Hang on a moment.
So this is now working in the sense that I can make a call and the microphone and ear piece now work?
I tried Android a few months ago and the only benefit I could see was that it ran and loaded but none of the phone hadrware was usable or a ***** to get gprs working.

Cool!
Ok A list of what keys do what would be handy.

So far I've figured out that the End Key is the power button; it puts it to sleep (which takes a while to wake up from).
The power button is Home or whatever it's called on Android; it takes you to the desktop.
Home key is menu button and is used to unlock, you can wake the phone up with either power button or menu button but then menu to unlock, sometimes you have to press it a couple of times.
Call button still seems to be call; it brings up the call log from the desktop.
I'm liking what I've seen so far; it's very intuitive. I haven't got 3G internet working though :-(.
API Demos
The simple bitmap ones work but Opengl ones just make the phone crash.
I can't wait to see this on a phone with the Tegra chip on.
Don't understand why When I set the sound to Vibrate. Bejewed still plays sound. It's Cool though
I accidentally started the Voice dialler which also crashed but it's cool. GPRS Data is working
WPA2 Wifi cool!
Gyro Sensors working

Chapters of this tutorial:
[1]Formatting SD card
[2]Installing Froyo X red
[3]Installing Camera
[4]Finishing up
Downloads
1 Froyo X Red http://www.multiupload.com/16UTFCYLTA
2 kernel+libs http://www.multiupload.com/YGVM8VELPV
3 Haret+Startup.txt-Ts-Calibration http://www.multiupload.com/33Z52W8L14
4 If having problems with booting android try this startup.txt
[1]Formatting SD card
Easy as pie.
put your memory card in a sd card reader (your blackstone will do fine) and plug it in your pc/laptop.
open My pc and look for your memory card and right click on it.
Click Format
http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/3646/16774455.png
Ok great Sd card is formatted and ready to go. no lets move on..
[2]Installing froyo X Red /B]
ok first things first download Froyo X Red and Haret+Startup.txt-Ts-Calibration.
Then unpack Froyo X Red to the root of your memory card(root means on your memory card not in an folder on your memory card)
Then open up Haret+Startup.txt-Ts-Calibration and copy all the files to the root of your memory card.
Now unmount your Blackstone or Sd card reader from your pc.Put the Sd card in your blackstone(if it isnt already there) navigate to your storage card and open the file Haret
Now it shoud just give you a bunch of text and a little linux penguin let it load for a while(note: It coud take some minutes so dont think it wont boot)
it shoud boot. now follow the set-up and sync your google account.then turn off your blackstone and reboot it.so it boots in windows mobile again.when its in windows mobile go to the next step!
[3]Installing Camera
so android working accordingly everything set up but still no camera..
its time to change that
download kernel+libs
simply unpack the zip to your memory card..
overwrite zImage
thats that your done. enjoy android with working camera!
[4]Finishing up
this isnt really a neccesary step but I do recommend it.
open up spare parts and set the Window animation and Transition animation to Fast
and your done! have fun with your brand new Android phone..
dont forget to check this thread for updates!
Ts-calib for Blackstone. Rmove extension and put it in your andboot folder.
You will also need the "lib_camera" folder in the root of your SD-Card for camera to function. This is missing in this ROM distribution, but you can find the link for it in the first post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883966
Is this FroyoX build of yours still based on the Huawei U8150 from Neopeek? Just wondering of curiosity.
Hello,
I just tried with the 3 different camera modules, and with and without oc.
I used calibration from this thread and also from an older install of mine.
Find attached my STARTUP.txt.
I always have the same result.
Haret Booting OK
Passing Boot animation OK
Unlock SIM card OK
Then during the setup process, after clicking on the droid, it freezes and the image stay put, I can not do anything but soft reset. It does it at different stages: Time setup, or google account setup, or location setup...
If there is a way I can give you more information about what's going on please ask.
Cheers,
ok for those who are having crashes from setup screen: THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME ON MY BLACKSTONE AND MY WORK WITH OTHER DEVICES!!
OPTION (1)
1) WHEN YOU REACH SETUP SCREEN REMOVE SIM CARD ONLY.....NOT BATTERY!
2) NOW CARRY ON WITH SETUP SCREEN AND SKIP EVERYTHING IT MAY FREEZE FOR 5SEC OR SO JUST WAIT!
3) NOW YOUR AT HOME SCREEN NAVIGATE TO (SETTINGS, WIRELESS & NETWORKS, MOBILE NETWORKS, ACCESS POINT NAME.......CHOOSE YOUR PROVIDER!
4) NOW THAT YOU HAVE PROVIDER AND IT HAS A GREEN DOT TO THE RIGHT OF IT YOU NEED TO POWER OFF YOUR DEVICE!
5) REPLACE YOUR SIM CARD AND POWER UP IN WM AND THEN RUN HARET AND YOU SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO WITH NO FREEZING IF YOU HAVE THE 3G ICON SHOW IN YOUR STATUS BAR AT THE TOP!!
OPTION (2)
THIS REQUIRES SPEED BUT WILL WORK BUT YOU HAVE TO BE FAST YOU MAY HAVE TO REBOOT LEAST 3 TIME BECAUSE IT MAY FREEZE!
BOOT HARET WHEN YOU REACH SETUP SCREEN THIS TIME LEAVE SIM CARD IN BUT TRY TO SKIP EVERYTHING AS QUICK AS U CAN, TO GET TO HOME SCREEN, IF YOU MANAGE TO GET TO HOME SCREEN THATS THE SETUP PROCESS DONE, IF YOUR PHONE FREEZES RESTART IT AGAIN YOU SHOULD BE AT HOME SCREEN THIS TIME, YOU NEED TO GO TO (SETTINGS, WIRELESS & NETWORKS, MOBILE NETWORKS, ACCESS POINT NAME.......CHOOSE YOUR PROVIDER THEN GO BACK 1 THEN GO TO NETWORK OPERATORS AND SELECT AUTOMATICALLY IT WILL SEARCH THEN AFTER 10 SECONDS FREEZE...........REBOOT AND YOU SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO! (NOTE YOU SHOULD DO THIS QUICKLY FROM WHEN YOUR HOME SHOWS HOME SCREEN BECAUSE IT WILL FREEZE WITHIN 40 SECONDS)
i know it alot of messing around but its worth it,........if you want to try this build out because its fast fast fast!!!!!
hope it works for you all
These issues are been delt with ive been told in the nxt update............no camera working at the moment
Thank you, that helped.
Now testing other functionalities.
I changed end button mapping to "back home" as it seems it had same mapping as power button initialiy. I also put animations and transitions to fast.
I synchronized my google account and gmail/contacts/agenda are fine.
I'll keep you up to date. But, so far, this is definitely the best versions I ever tested. It is amazingly fast!
This is awesome work!
UPDATE1:
- Wifi : not OK.
This is a shame because as I do not have data plan, it means I can not download apps from the market without wifi, and I would really like to download some apps. I would really appreciate a fix!
- Gallery: OK
- SMS receive and send: OK
- Camera: Not OK
- Music Player: Partially OK because there audio stuttering (note: is this applicable to this version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905085&page=4)
Update2:
-Wifi is OK (just has to change zImage and modules)
- Market: OK (download apps included)
Update3:
- Screen orientation OK
- Talk OK
So far no freeze or sluggishness. Amazingly fast.
Everything works perfect! Even the live wallpapers are working! Thanks to the developers...
Wow! Can confirm this is a lightning fast version!
Especially WIFI I've never seen so fast on FROYO build, could not believe my eyes, much appreciated!
(note: for some reason added modules and zkernel could not get WIFI to work, tried several things, but in the end changed to latest kernel (1253) and got amazing results!)
Camera would be nice, could you also check if "sound stuttering" is fixed in next build?
(as you probably already know, VirusCrazy managed to disable battery polling during sound playback in test kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883966)
Final note: keymapping is still wrong for blackstone, power button can be mapped to home, with long press to latest programs, see also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936601
All in all, great start, can't wait to see next steps!
Cheers,
Robbert

KINO [Kin Opensource-FileManager]

Hi there!
As i said on a thread (bit long time ago), i had the intention of making an opensource file manager for the kin.
So i have been working on for two days, and i'm reserving this thread for its releases and descriptions.
It will be given as donationware, which means that you can take it for free and donate if you wish (or not to... )
SECURITY DISCLAIMER
- As you can imagine, by using this tool you have not guaranteed the operational state with your device and is provided "as is". You are the only responsable on the effects if could have on your device, even though i tested locally all the options for hours. Like you do for 3rd party non-certified software.
- DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT unplug the device nor close the program while writing or reading from the device. Errors states are unknown and you may scr3w up your flash memory.

- If during the usage, it takes long, WAIT for the transmission to end. Errors are handled by the program and in the last cases there are 2 to 3 levels of error treatment, notificating you in the info box and storing a brief description on the "error.log" file when it's ultra. (I'm still human, new errors can appear).
- IF during this usage the kin gets a "Connected" window and the program is clossed without closing that window, then it's the time where you can unplug and it will reset the device communication values, pluggin again. If you reach this state without doing magic, notify it to solve the bug.

* Note that i DONT have a 64 bit hardware, so i based its compatibility on the failed running in my Windows 7 (aka "this is for other architecture error")
** Note that to use this driver you MUST remove the Zune driver. I recommend to test it on a clean virtual machine first
Functions
- TreeView Kin Storage explorer (Auto Resyncs after each operation)
---> Select one or multiple items with the checkboxes next to them.
- Batch upload to the kin (to the root of the tree)
---> Select one ore more files from the selection dialog and go go go. Any file, anytime
-------> **Danger** pressing twice will upload files twice, be patient.
- Multiple file download from the kin
----> Mark any file from the tree and press "Download". The file will be downloaded to a subfolder "Downloads" next to the exe, where the tree storage has been replicated.
-------> **Danger** Folder and Playlists and other files are just logical, and have no size, so program deals with them as folders (and are created emptied in the local system at the pc)
- Multiple file delete
-------> Mark any file from the tree and press "Delete". After confirmation, the files selected will be removed from the device.
-------> **Danger** Folders are not deleted. Infobox at the bottom will inform you if a file could not be deleted.
-------> **Danger** I trickied it so the storage root could not be deleted... ahhh smart little fellas.. you were already thinking in that huh! rofl.
Known issues
- During my random tests around, i found that sometimes (dunno why exactly), the kin <-> Kino communication skips a step, messing up the mtp communication schema. The solution i used in this release was to show the root storage without children nodes. As this case is an error, you should tell me if you know a repeatable way to get it so i can retest and solve it.
To keep going with the kin, close Kino, and unlock the Connected window (slide your finger over it) and unplug & plug the usb again.
F.A.Q.
- Q: No donation button in the end?
- A: Nope. Just when it proves to be useful .
- Q: This works with Kin One devices?
- A: No. I only have access to Two (bricked) and TwoM devices, so cannot test for the little round turtle.
- Q: Do you provide a driver for Kin?
- A: Yes. It is only a bridge from the programs to the libusb-win32 functions. Unfortunately, you would have to remove the zune driver (Hardware manager) before using this one.
- Q: This bricks kin devices?
- A: At all.
- Q: This can hack the device?
- A: No. This is only a tool to upload and download files to your kin. If later it's used to hack, good anyway
- Q: Can this upload *any* file to the kin storage?
- A: Yes, binary files like exe, cab, pdf, ... will be labeled as 0x3000 (undefined filetype) for the kin.
- Q: Can i take the code and make my version called OmgKinManager?
- A: Yup. It would be a nice detail to include a little text in "about..." regarding me though
kk, apart from the above, i'm a bit stuck on the uploading procedure, doing it dinamically, not with known filesizes like i tested before.
I will try to get it to work and allow multiselection file dialogs.
Later, downloading, which is easier, as i just request files. I will try to make the selectable tree work, so several files can be downloaded at a time.
Btw, the tree is not a demo, it's my real storage, being asked to the kin. It's a long process, as i ask for the id's and their values to the kin to create a Tree structure, later parsed by the interface.
Whenever that and deletion is done, i will upload both the driver and the program/source to the public.
For Zune's functionality lost scared people, i would suggest to try on a windows virtual machine first (which i will do to test for .net framework requirements and so)
Way cool imn glad to see some progress
Nice work! I spend a lot of time on this forum reading posts and 75% of the time it's your post. You've spent a lot of time working on this project and we all appreciate it. Expect a donation from me in the near future
I'm speechless.
Hey john, you have only gotten into the media section correct? What type of things have you gotten to do if i may ask. If you want, I can help get "into" the other parts of the phone. A.K.A contacts. That's my main concern right now. I could care less of customizing the OS (which I will get to if you care to lend a hand.) Since I don't want to Say anything just yet, send me an email to [email protected]. I would like to help. I'm on my phone at the moment but tomorow I'll post how i got the phone into a writeable state (which I don't know if it still work. I've only tested twice.) If it doesn't work tomorrow, I'll donate my time during the week helping you guys. I may need to get a new battery.
P.S. It's taking me awhile to do this becuase I dont want to brick my phone. Im definately not using my enV touch!
please, read the faq above. this is not a hacking thing, but a sync one.
to be honest, i dont care about contacts cause i dont use this phone to make calls and i just wanted it to be more open. pinned apps or phone settings storage would be my only interest apart storage folder.
also, i dont want to keep secrets or long term waiting things. post what you want or dont post, but dont make it a teaser of nothing. plus i dont wanna go emailing people.
Props to you. Great utility, if it were able to get deeper into the system. Then it would be golden.
Edited for many reason
As some other forumeer seems to have gotten into the phone system, imma halt this development till acess range is shown (filesystem / storage / settings), if any.
There's no need to redo all the required mtp subsystem if we can get there by other (easier) means. OS native explorer, for example.
just go ahead and work on it in case the other guy fails. ^.^

Nice future-sight on this post
I just tested the file upload in the command-line again with static (coded by hand) filesizes.
Here is a new vid (hahaha famous ultralowres) where a file is upload to a just-formatted kin (CB+power).
File: dstpa.mp4 (BEP- Don't stop the party), 33.1MB
Destination: Kin storage root
Playable after upload: yup!
Mp4 tags: At all .
Just a upload showcase, not just naming the procedure .
nice nice ^.^
more freedom in file management I like.
woot goodjob
I have to give you kudos for your dedication. You kept at it even after you bricked your first kin.
I patiently await a release.
I'm trying to get the alpha release up today (tonight here).
I was in the mood and moved my coding-ass. Solved most of the problems on-the-go, but downloading.
I'm trying to allow multidownload keeping same directories on the pc... just cause i wanted to... rofl.
Hummmmm,
EVERYDAYIAMSHUFFLIN
Mmm after discovering several things, and implementing a lot of bugfixes (didnt know some things about MTP), there it is.
here, and all the versions are updated and uploaded in the 1st post, among the driver for it.
As posted there, i suggest to use it on a virtual machine with .net framework 2.0 cause the removal of the zune's driver for the kin.
You can now take your kin and (if the driver & program behave correctly), upload the files you want to the Kin.
Any type of file, any time.
I'm pretty naughty telling this, but apart from uploading....... i don't check for the file contents... so if any of you want to turn a .exe into .mp4 to look for exploits i wouldnt blame you for testing....
Double naughty if i say that Zune doesnt load info from the files itself, but only what was transfered from MTP (.. poor fella)
You can check that, cause it will only load the filename and name of the mp3, ... cause i did that (before today, i just sent filename, which makes its name blank on zune, like you saw in my video from BEP).
Hope you all enjoy and no errors appear.. rofl.
Btw, there's no donate option, cause i think it's more fair to think about that when the program is known to work, and not just alpha releases .
It's 02:53 AM here, so i better go to bed, to work tomorrow and that things....
I just wish this thing could play games lol.
@Johnkussack
Wow. I have to say thank you for putting your time and effort into really hacking this phone. I can't wait to see someone get android or wp7 running on this thing (if it's even possible with the hack you have, I'm not sure). Ether way, thanks for everything.

[Build] ThaiDai Android Loader and Setup v2.3 [DISCONTINUED]

ThaiDai Android Loader is a program for Windows Mobile 6.1.
--------------------------------------------------------------
A few words why I stopped development:
I had to stop this project for personal reasons (reason called baby).
And this was easy because nearly nobody (or only a few < 10) used my loader.
But more important for me now: I do not see any improvements on bugs or missing features for Blackstone with Android, there is no real kernel developer community anymore. Sound problems, BT, battery and performance aren't funny if you want to use the device. For playing with Android it was ok and I learned a lot. But not for every day use. So I switched back to WinMo 6.1.
And yesterday I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note. Android rules!
--------------------------------------------------------------
(6.5 builds will not work because there is an error in writing files with Windows Mobile 6.5 which will appear when linux makes a fsck. So no support for 6.5
You can use builds like Damn Small Topix (Rapidshare works) or other 6.1 builds)
If you run into problems and want help, please provide me with the generated log files in folder "thaidaiboot/Logs".
No Logs = No help!
With the loader you can start Android or you can install Android without doing the usual things: no copy, no edit, no changes etc.
The setup (a normal cab-file) prepares the necessary files on your sd card automatically.
With the program you select what you want to do (install, backup, restore, change device, choose Android Build, edit startup.txt and build.prop) and press "Boot". That's it.
Program is installed in autostart folder and will automatically boot into last chosen OS after a number of seconds (default 100 s, you can change of course). Stopping countdown is easy: klick somewhere or change a value).
FRX07.1 build is included as default. More builds to come from tomorrow.

-------------------- v2.3, 2011/09/18 --------------------
Changelog: including 2.0/2.1/2.2 changes, starting with 2.3 ;-)
---- 2.3 ----
Editor for build.prop for each build
Explanations for entries in build.prop (just started to gather them)
additional logging information in window mobile stage of installation
selected builds stay in original folder (so no system.tgz in folder thaidaiboot) and are used in rootfs.img for installing /system
---- 2.2 ----
Timer option for booting into Android automatically after n seconds is working correctly now.
I added the option to select Apps for installation - but I do not change the apps delivered with the specific build. So this part ist only for your own flavour of apps you want to add.
Next big change: Editor for startup.txt. You can easily change the commandline parameters (like display density or OC or ...). The set parameters cannot be changed until now (I didn't see the necessarity).
Resolution changed to 480x800 and using it. So from now concentrating on Blackstone. Other 480x800 devices may work but still no guarantee.
Resolved some stupid error with choosing Kernels (I just found this one today, nobody else did before)
---- 2.0/2.1 ----
Changed format for builds to tgz. Now it is easier for me to prepare cwm based builds
New rootfs.img for installation and updates with tgz files
Added download links for build thunderbolt
In every build I checked I have to make changes to build.prop: double entries, wrong entries, obsolete entries, stupid entries, optimized entries. That's why I started adding a build.prop-editor to my program.
As default I still use NeoFroyo. (without GAPPS).
Added GAPPS as Update-Package (selected on first start, please install)
New setup package and installation file for windows mobile
For all typical devices like Blackstone, Diamond, Raphael, Rhodium, Topaz
New user interface in windows program
autostart into Android after n seconds (changeable)
new UI (Hubs)
switched from comboboxes to lists for selection (better information on first look)
new ts-calibration for Topaz (thanks to Aggy in Neopeeks forum)
changing Hubs color possible (just for fun)
removed Apps from system.ext2 to folder APPS, so the different Builds will be much smaller and I have to install and upload Apps only one time
with apps in folder Apps the selection of Apps in loader program will soon be possible
Downloads:
One big cab file (about 95 MB) including everything.
Setup for ThaiDai Android Loader v2.3 with FRX07.1
Bugfix for Exe, please copy to your program files folder with thaidailoader, will give a complete new cab file next days.
Some more builds:
Setup for Build Froyo Blue
Prepare SD card:
You need 4 primary partitions on sd card (I use MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition)
All sizes here are only examples. Start with them, feel free to change.
All partitions have to be "primary" (ignore warning in Windows)
Partition 1: FAT32 (at least put folder "thaidaiboot" from zip here)
Partition 2: EXT2, about 150 MB (used for Android system partition)
Partition 3: EXT2, about 250 MB (or more for Android data partition)
Partition 4: EXT2, about 100 MB (for Android cache partition)
Size of partition 1: [Size of sd card] - [Size of 3 EXT2]
Installation:
Delete folder thaidaiboot on sd card and deinstall Loader program before using this setup (copy cab to sd card and start it).
- copy first big cab to sd card
- execute cab and start setup
- install on sd card (not on internal memory!)
- start "ThaiDai Android Loader" from start menu
- select your options and boot into Android
Adding new builds:
- copy cab for build to sd card
- execute cab and start setup
- install on sd card (not on internal memory!)
- start "ThaiDai Android Loader" from start menu (build will be copied - takes some time)
- select different build and install (Please start program one time before adding builds!)
Warning:
- Do not edit or change files in folder "thaidaiboot" on your own. Use the program.
- I hope it will install now in all language versions of Windows Mobile. I tested it only with an english installation. And maybe some foreign fonts (like Thai ;-)
aren't recognized by haret.exe or linux.
-------------------- ThaiDai Android Loader options: --------------------
Administrative Tasks
backupSystem
backupData
make Clean
installSystem
fixSystem
fixData
restoreSystem
restoreData
When started in Windows Mobile no Task is selected!
After "haret.exe" is started my installation script will go through the selected tasks
Device Selection
Select "startup.txt" and "ts-calibration" from folder "Startups" for possible devices in FRX07 like Blackstone, DIAM, RHOD, RAPH, Topaz
Build Selection
Select the build you want to install
NeoFroyo (default)
XDAndroid FRX07 (the original)
THUNDERBOLT
... (tell me what you want to see here)
Kernel Selection
Select the kernel you want to use
1342
1346 (default)
Typical Tasks:
For a new and clean installation (data is deleted) choose: "backupSystem", "backupData", "makeClean", "installSystem"
For an update of your system (no data changed) choose: "installSystem"
You can always choose to start with backups first and choose: "backupSystem", backupData"
Tasks with "fix..." are only necessary for updates I will post here
Select Device [Blackstone]
When you select another device, the program checks if there is a "startup.txt" in the folder of this device. If not found, nothing is changed. When a "startup.txt" is found it is copied to the folder "thaidaiboot" and you can start your device.
If a "ts-calibration" is found, it is copied. Please be careful: I do not know if all ts-calibration files are ok.
-------------------- OK-not OK: --------------------

I don't have any problem with your thread, in fact, I'm glad you made it work
This is a communitary effort, and I'm only an average tester, so couldn't be more far from angry for this.
Thank you!
Hi ThaiDai,
Thanks for sharing your work.
Quick questions:
- have you modified the Roofts.img from FRX07 adding CMW? or modified the roofts from Neopeek CMW 1.8?
- What is the size of the cache partition you recomend as it is now? Neopeek CMW 1.8 recommends between 50-100mb.
I'll try as soon as I finish working.
Brgds
Downloaded the last version of rootfs.img from XDAndroid rootfs Build Service and used this as a starting point.
As far as I understand we do not need a cache for the Android build FRX07 anymore. But for CWM (and his logs) we need. So I will try later to flash the next version with a very small cache partition size.
But first I want to try and repair (if necessary) the scripts, so that other devices can be used (tried?) with this build.
Wait and see...
Update to Version 0.99 (Full Install and Update Only)
First post updated with new version 0.99.
Included download links for Full Install (complete npkboot folder) and Update only (zip-file inside npkboot).
And it should be possible to test this build on other devices now. Tried to restore the multi-device-usability. But no garanty.
Tried the previous version and worked nice and fast. (with cache partition of 50 Mb)
I'll download and try the new version now!
Please try if the Update Only works. I have to check myself later. Didn't do this right now. Thanks

Thanks man, the first Android that works on my Blackstone. I tried several builds CWM and not CWM, but this seems to work w/o probs - so far

Please give these credits to the developers of XDAndroid. I didn't do very much here, only made a CWM build from the original ext2 based build.
But I'm happy you can use Android on Blackstone with this one.
BTW, remember to update SU binary fron superuser app, and better if you don't reuse app data from previous builds. It will surely make your wifi fail, probably other things.
I've been using the XDAndroid FRX07 CWM by ThaiDai 0.99 build from last nigth, and so far so good.
Performance is quite good, batery life acceptable, and the problems are the same as XDANDROID FRX07 running on the Sd (BT, audio stuttering and wifi disconnecting intermittent).
questions:
- have you tried to change the behaviour of the red button using spareparts? it didn't worked for me.
- have someone use the old fancy widget (the one HTC weather clock replica)? it does not work.
Sorry if this question sounds stupid. I already tried to read the info in neopeek but still don't fully understand it, so anybody that is willing to explain to me, thanks!
I have been using the FRX07 and the previous version of XDAndroid in the normal build (one folder in the SD Card). What is the benefit and the difference of running it in this CWM way? Is it better performance, better battery life, or better management?

Some have claimed better performance, but in my testing it's actually worse.
I guess one benefit with having a dedicated data partition is USB mass storage (should) work properly. Other than that it's a lot of work for very little reward - perhaps if you jump builds a lot, CWM has a nifty backup/restore feature built-in to it...

I was referring to a problem posted above, sorry. The thing is I got some nasty problems (in fact had to reinstall again) because I tried to restore some data+apps with TB and it ruined wifi.
Hi Eodun, what do you think the benefits of the CWM build of FRX07?
Its really faster, better battery life, etc? Can you give some insight?

It could be faster, you'd get usb storage to work, battery life shouldn't change.
