I give up on tagging album art for HTC music...help? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have three albums that I can't get the album art to show up in HTC Music player no matter what. 400+ other albums works fine (some after I clean the tags and re-apply the album arts)
1. I've cleaned the ID3 tags clean of album art multiple times.
2. I've tried linked folder.jpg, unlinked folder.jpg, embedded album art
3. Tried multiple sizes and types of album art source
Any ideas?

Did you check the size of the folder.jpg files? Also make sure the resolution isn't ridiculous like 1600x1600, which would be causing the large file size anyway.
I've tagged thousands of files and when I got a Sansa I started to notice that big album art wouldn't display. I always check my master folder.jpg then batch-embed with Tag & Rename after.
Hope that helps!

I did check. Initially, I thought my 500 x 500 jpg were too big. I resized them, still doesn't work. Possibly corrupt jpg? So I downloaded from new source.
Later on, I noticed that some of my album have album images larger than 500 x 500 and they do work.
Just 3 albums out of 431. I might try re-downloading these files from another source.

I use Mediamonkey. It is superior.
Anyways, I re-downloaded the three albums. Two of them got fixed. One still refuses to work.
F#$k Franz Ferdinand. I don't even listen to that crap.

HTC Album art?

How does the HTC Album art work exactly? I've ripped a bunch of music to my HDD and transfered them to my phone. I've tried leaving them untitled after they're ripped and HTC doesn't load the album art. I've tried renaming them and none of them will work. What am I doing wrong?
I've even tried all the Update Song options.

You could try using iTunes or Windows Media Player to attach album art to your music. Personally, I use itunes because it has a "get album artwork" feature (right click the song title). That, and I have an iPhone. Hope that helps.

Desire doesn't display MP3 album pics

The title says it all.
Opening the MP3s in any Windows MP3 player show the album pictures.
Any idea why the original music player in the Desire doesn't do it?
Rooted Desire with R5 rom from Modaco.
I've got a similar issue. I can see 90% of my album art but some are missing despite being present in the folder I've put on my desire!

I had this. I even tried embedding album art in the mp3 and making sure there was a jpg in the same directory. However, the HTC app simply refused to use some no matter what I did.
The solution? I downloaded MixZing from the marketplace. I liked it so much, I upgraded to the non-Ad version.
I couldn't persuade my Desire either.
I embedded all artworks directly into mp3, deleted the albumthumbs directory several times... no luck.
But what is more annoying is that for some mp3s it displays the completely wrong artwork. I opened the mp3 in Winamp, WMP - the artwork is correct. When I play it in Desire the artwork shown is completely different.
PS: Meridian behaves the same way.
Have you tried deleting all the files in the /sd card/albumthumbs folder and rebooting your phone?
I had this issue when I first got the phone, I managed to fix it by clearing out the tags of each album and filling them again, took multiple attempts though.

this worked for me too.
It does work but only if you never add more music. I always seem to get problems with new mp3s added.
And I never understood where does it take the incorrect artwork from.
clear data at Media Store! Thats works fine!
Settings > Applications > Manage applications > Media Storage
then reboot the device...
xdad, your solution works, thanks!

Album artwork not showing

Does anyone know why album artwork might not appear even when I've confirmed the mp3s have artwork attached? I have some albums and while all has artwork, only about half of them will show it. Verified with a third party program. I don't get it.

That shouldnt matter. The art should be embedded in each mp3.

Point taken. The embedded art didn't work for me though, but the albumart did.
Yes, the artwork is embedded. I tried like you said and placed album artwork in the folders, however, only one album was recognized with the artwork, the rest still won't show. Makes no sense??

Album Cover not applied

I have a folder with music and place inside album cover and trying to call it like Folder.jpg or Albumart.jpg or cover.jpg but no one help me. Default Play Music application still use default cover for this folder.
Is there any way to apply my own album cover without embeded album cover to each mp3 file with programs like mp3tag?
PS: ICS 4.0.4
There is an app in the Market called Album Art Grabber. Try it out.

Why don't you want to embed the folder art to the id3 tags?

comment from Play store:
It says it works with ICS but not with Google music. I guess that means you also need a third party player, but the app says nothing about this. This worked great with older Android phones, but if you are running OVA and using the native music app, forget it.

Because I have some mixed folders that not real album so I want to set up for it my album cover and this is would be wrong if I set up for each file wrong album cover image
PS: problem still not resolved ^(
Use iTag. The album art has to be embedded into the song.
OR
Download cover art downloader, edit album art, wipe Google play music app data. It rescans your library and adds the art.

SocialReject and manumanfred can you trying read information about my problem? I ask how to set up album cover image without embeded image to each mp3 file. iTag like mp3tag applied it to mp3 file and album art grabber didn't work with default ICS player Play Music.

Did you wipe app data in settings? I said it rescans your media once you set up again. iTag was just a suggestion.

Will the stock ICS music player read all of these? I thought it wanted albumart.jpg, but I might have had an issue with not clearing the app data.

Help Changing Album Art

I have a few albums where the album art refuses to change no matter which program I use.
Based on some searching I found that if you delete all files in "com.android.providers.media\albumthumbs" that the phone should stop forcing its art on specific albums. However after doing so you also have to change the folder to read-only.
I did this on an old s5 neo and it worked.
However on my current s9 I don't have the option to delete files in this folder. So, I found the folder by connecting my phone to my pc and deleted all the files... but I can't change the permission of the folder either on my phone or pc to read-only, so the album art is still not changing.
Tried a bunch of different apps, and in the apps the art is ok, but in the actual music player it's not.
Is there any work around for this? Or any other way to force the album art to change? Any way to change the folder to read-only?
Thanks!
It seems strange that art wouldn't change. Are you sure there isn't art embedded into the files? Download a music tagger, I recommend Mp3tag if you're on Windows, and open the files in there to see if there's any art embedded. Also make sure there isn't a hidden folder.jpg anywhere. If you can't figure it out maybe upload one of the files and I'll have a look to see if I can find the problem.
Hey sure thanks so much if you could help that'd be great.
Here is one of the files. I just opened it in mp3tag, deleted the album art, added a high quality pic. Yet when I uploaded to my phone it still shows some low quality crap as album art.

I've taken a look and the file appears to be OK. Did you happen to check if the previously embedded pic was low quality? Because if it was you might just need to clear albumthumbs again, then recopy over the album with the high quality art embedded in each file (you might also just be able to put it as folder.jpg in the same folder with no embeds on any files, not certain if that works) and let the cache regenerate.
If that doesn't work then I have a couple more questions - how low quality are you talking (a screenshot would be helpful), and what music player are you using? Because testing the file in Samsung Music looks fine to me. You could also have a look at another music player with an option to ignore mediastore's cached covers (which are usually compressed more) and reads the art directly from the file. There are a bunch available that can do this like Retro, Shuttle, Phonograph, Poweramp, and probably tons more.
I've attached screenshots of what it looks like for me on Retro (with mediastore disabled) and Samsung Music.
Hey no I didn't check the previously embeded pic. I did however clear albumthumbs and then recopied the song, but still didn't work. Don't know what the f is up with this phone lol.
I'm not sure what you mean with the folder.jpg. I'm supposed to name the album art file folder.jpg?
Ya mine doesn't look like that unfortunately. Here's a pic of how mine looks on Samsung music player. Also here's the pic I'm trying to use.

Welp, my last idea apart from trying a different music player is to clear the data of Samsung Music. If that doesn't work, I probably can't help sorry.
By the folder.jpg thing I mean instead of embedding the file in every MP3 on an album, which takes up more space (say your album cover is 700 kilobytes across 10 songs, that's 7 megabytes), you can just put it in the same folder as the files (like the attached image). It could also take priority depending on the app, not sure how Samsung Music handles it.
That's alright thanks so much so far.
How do I clear the data from samsung music?
In terms of putting the album art in the same folder as the files... do I do that on my phone or my computer?

Open Settings, then go to Apps, find and tap on Samsung Music, then tap Storage, and Clear data. And you can do it on either.

Oh man thanks so much... it finally worked. There are still a couple albums which it didn't work for but it worked for most. Maybe clearing albumthumbs again will work.
Also there's another problem, lol. The mini album art at the bottom of the screen shows up as the old one instead of the new one. I'm gonna try clearing albumthumbs and samsung music again and hopefully that fixes it.
Hey so I (or better you) figured it out finally. If you change the album art right before you clear samsung music then after clearing it will show up with the correct album art in all places. Some of the older ones I changed didn't show up, but if I changed them right before clearing they all showed up perfectly.
