If this phone gets to the US through att (please!) I'm thinking hard about picking it up. I have a question though for the users that have switched from winmo to android.
I've been a winmo user since the wizard days and here lately I've grown tired of the daily resets (or multiple resets per day) to keep memory down and things running smooth. I love the Sense UI but it's a hog on winmo. I never thought I'd go to another phone that didn't have a slide out keyboard but the desire is something I'm really considering.
I realize this is a modding community and I'm sure I'll mod the device, but whereas the sense ui on winmo is "lipstick on a pig" it seems it's a lot more seamless on android.
Mainly i think i'm just getting burned out on winmo, but i refuse to support the evil empire of apple lol. I just want a phone that i don't have to restart every day, and I'm hoping android can be that.
So uh, does android "just work"?
Depending on how much of a "power user" one is , you could say Android just works.
I mean, Android with Sense + some minor tweaks and i don't have the urge to hack my phone into little pieces. I just use it.
Then again, for "just using" you might aswell get the iPhone.
Yes android does "Just Work"
And Sense UI on WinMo is completely different to the Android version, I couldn't believe they called it the same name =/

Some of the design and the widgets of course and the integration. Plus it's slower on winmo than on android...
Almost identical reasons as the OP for me very seriously considering moving to the Desire.
Sense on Android does seem far more customisable than on WinMo devices. I've been using WinMo device since the Imate JAM.

Sense UI on winmo is basically touchflo
I'm a die hard WinMo fan (I have well over a dozen WinMo phones right now - all HTC except 2). I want the Desire if for no other reason to hack something different while I wait for Windows Mobile 7 (which I may not get). If for no other reason, I ran out of things to hack on Windows Mobile. I need a new challenge. If I end up not liking Android, at least it kept me busy while we wait for Windows Mobile 7 (I refuse to call it anything else).
I picked up an iPhone 3GS just to see what I could do with it. Never even activated it. Not one of my prouder moments...

same here... i absolutely love WinMo and will never, ever abandon it. i'm waiting for the HD2 to drop on T-Mo so i can test before i buy. if i get the HD2 it will be the Telstra version. i might wait longer for a WinMo 7 device, too.
i took the Android plunge almost 2 months ago with the Nexus One. i have been challenged to no end to learn some of the Android basics, but i'm getting there. once i got the courage to unlock and root, it was friggin on! now i'm running the alpha Desire ROM (yes alpha), a.k.a, Sense UI, which isn't perfect, but from a functionality and performance perspective i couldn't be happier. (well, that's not entirely true, i'm hoping that [email protected] can get bluetooth fixed, it's a little flaky right now). i truly, truly hope that WM Seven is similar in performance and functionality.
using Android hasn't been an easy journey and i was very concerned that i'd change my mind and go back to WinMo, but it hasn't happened. i know i will be a better, more knowledgeable hacker in the future. some of the things i admire with Android/Nexus One:
ability to create backups before testing new ROMs. i mean backups with all my apps installed. a.k.a., Nandroid
the ability to recover from my mistakes via Nandroid backups.
a buttload of themes, customizations galore for the Nexus One
notification panel, where you can slide down for all your notifications
a great browsing experience
absolutely beautiful AMOLED screen
with a 1 ghz processor, this thing is simply fast
gesture search of contacts, music, apps, web, etc. it's like the old graffiti but using the regular alphabet
things that are challenging me big time:
Android command language
ROM/folder structures, basically where stuff get's stored
java, java, java
no native install to microSD card, there's AP2SD, but i'm not ready for that yet
not knowing how Android manages memory, programs, etc.
knowing how to create my own themes; i've had more failures than successes
having to depend more on others for assistance than i'm accustomed to.
i'm glad i made the transition to Android with the right device (for me). i miss WinMo and my all time favorite device Touch HD. i have an Xda Orbit II as a standby that's been good to me for 2 years. i'll be back to WinMo 7, but for now, i'm enjoying my Android experience.
i'm not trying to convince you or anyone else to move to Android; i only want to share my experience as a current/forever, diehard WinMo user. thanks for allowing me to express my thoughts!
p.s. i still have my first WinMo device, it's an MPx 200 running WinMo 6.5. a classic device that i will never give up!
I can not call myself a WinMo veteran, since I have been using the HD2 for only 2,5 months. But the fact that it is already a dead device because of the Developers leaving to 7 Series(Adobe just stopped making flash for it, while they were very close to finishing it) makes me sad. If on 1 April there is still no word on the future of the HD2, I am selling it and getting a Desire.
A few questions to Android users!
How is the Android Market? How many apps? All useable by Desire, or is the divercity of the Android devices making the quality suffer? And only instal to internal memory right?
General Android OS: easy to use? Eye candy? Touch optimized?
Android browser: good or not? Is there Opera browser for Android?
Does HTC Sense work well with Android? Does it become 'one', or stay 2 different things like Sense and WinMo?
What should I know more about Android? What do you Android users think are the bad things about the OS and hope to see changed in the future updates?
I know it is a lot I am asking, but I am making a right decision this time so I need to be informed.
Kind regards
great time to stumble on this thread.... my HD2 is no more and despite only using winmo for 3 months, I'm ready to go to Android too.
I'm no smartphone veteran - but something I enjoyed on the HD2 was the PSX emulator - will we see anything like that on Android?
Does anyone know about the development of medical apps for professionals as well as students?
Much appreciated. So far the Desire is looking like a strong contender but do the wise folks here have any other phone tips?
Hi there.
I am quite a WinMobile user. I already worked with WinCE many many years ago, but couldn't ever think of having a phone with WinCE/WinMobile. Then 2 years ago, I got myself the Tytn II because I wanted to advance in my mobile experience. After using it quite a while, flashing ROMs and doing stuff with it, I thought I'd never switch away from WinMobile. Until the real problems started.
A friend of mine got a Hero last year and I started playing around a bit. Android really seemed to me, that it is pretty nice and you can do a bunch of things with it. I then tried some Android things on my Tytn II and was pretty happy with playing around with it. My first Android experience was with the G1. But I really didn't like it back then.
Currently I use the iPhone I repaired for a friend (just some minor testing because I don't like it) and I must say, that I am already pretty accustomed to the touchscreen keyboard (like everyone knows, the touchscreen keyboards on Tytn II are crap) (and the iPhone sucks... did I mention that?). But, I always wanted a hardware keyboard again. The only good device currently is the Moto Droid. But it already lacks due to the processor and not natively having Android 2.1. So I looked around a bit and found the Nexus One. Would be pretty cool, but it's still not yet available in germany. So I waited. Then the MWC. HTC Desire. Now this is what I want and this is what I will get. Already pre-ordered and hopefully it will hit the market soon. Can't wait for it.
This will be my first Android device, but I look forward to a bright future with it I already like the customizability of it and of course the big screen and everything else. Despite the little things.
Well google, you lost a customer because of your inability to provide a new product to the whole world at the same time. Perhaps I'll think about it in 2 years

I would say that anything with android on it would still be considered a google phone since google came up with android in the first place. They get a customer either way
However, I have no idea how they make money out of this since it is open source. Maybe they are like huge donators to a charity for all us techno geeks, just to make life more pleasant for us.
Just wanted to say I recently traded my tp2 for 200$ plus a G1, and I couldn't have been happier. The G1 is GREAT. It's not rooted yet, but I already like the experience more then the Tp2 with sense.
Im going to be trading the G1 for a Magic soon, and I will get sense on that. Im sure I will enjoy it even more then.
I liked winmo 6.5. But 7 looks like garbage to me. So I jumped ship from a dieing platform, and I suggest others to do so aswell. Android is great.
plz delete!
im since 2 years an windows mobile user .. it all started with my lg ks20 .. i also have been just playin around with the diamond...
i think compared to android winmo is just the better OS, because of so many apps ... when i need a windows mobile app for making my mobile an touchpad , i just type on google.com "touchpad wm6.5" ... and there are successfull hits...
so why android ? the hd2 has:
- a bigger screen (i think 4,3 " is my limit, otherwise it would be too big for my pocket ... so i dont think that i´ll get the hd3)
- faster processor
- more apps (but spread in the www)
- capability in porting other ROMs on it (since many years)
also i think, that windows mobile 7 looks just disgusting... its not "windows" anymore ... the weird (and really too simple) interface, just like with any self made OS from other devices ....
when i see the windows mobile home screen interface, i want 20 ways to open a program , otherwise it isnt windows.... this is the thing, why i prefer windows mobile... its complicated, but when you read the manual, its easy ... and its expandable (other apps and so on)...
Hope the HD2 will arrive in 2 weeks ... i think i will be pretty happy with it...

Your reasons why the HD2 (with WM 6.5) is better than Android:
1. Yes, it has a 4.3 inch screen, and currently there is no Android device that has such a huge screen. I myself find the screen beautiful, but would not mind using a slightly smaller screen. The HTC HD2 can be hard to use sometimes, because of that massive screen.
2. The 1 GHz processor is fast indeed, but the Nexus One and HTC Desire both have a 1 GHz processor as well. Since most people here are talking about the HTC Desire, this point makes no sense. Both have a 1 GHz processor.
3. Android Market = 20.000 apps and growing, fast. WM Marketplace = biggest Smartphone Application Store failure ever. Seriously.
And yes, there may be many 'apps' on the internet that you can use on the HTC HD2. But really, of what quality are they? First of all, they are random spread on the internet, so very hard to find. Secondly, they are made for Windows Mobile in GENERAL, or if you are lucky for Windows Mobile 6.5. But then again, it could be made for another device, with a 3.5 inch screen, which means it will not be optimized for the HTC HD2.
So what I am trying to say is: the HTC HD2 lacks good apps. Android Market on the other hand offers many applications, which are easy to find and install & usually better quality.
4. I think that you can use custom ROMs on Android devices as well, but I am no expert in that area.
So my vision is still, HTC Desire > HTC HD2

Android, unlike win mo, is an open source operating system so the scope for new roms, new featurs etc is better than Windows Mobile.
Check G1 Android Development or Nexus One Android Development to see the vast amount of roms avaliable.

Sorry mate but I think a mega fail on your part, you just bought a device that can only run at this stage on a dying OS that will be unsupported shortly. No new fancy apps or games..... And technically you are not a convert, so why you posting?
I will be switching to the desire after having my blackstone for a year. I hate win-mo. No matter which version (6.1 -too old, 6.5 - still ugly and looks the same as 6.1, or 6.5.x which looks slightly better but that's it) I always try and improve things. That's the prob I find, it doesn't do what most people want it to do straight out of the box. You have to apply a zillion reg fixes, patches, work arounds all to get something android does straight out of the box..... Can't wait!!!! been fiddling with android on my blackstone and it rules, so pretty and logical
For reference on the switching to Android from WM thing, I bought an n1 a month or so ago, with great hesitation, and came from a TP2. I've been an avid WM guy for about 2 years, mostly due to being amazed at eeeeverything you could do.
The just works thing is the best answer. But it's also more of a black box, yet more customizable. linux is no registry having windows system. however, sense on android makes wm touchflo rediculous. The home system is completely different but similar thinking. The Android homescreen with sense is seven screens, customizable completely and easily with either shortcuts or widgets, smaller tiny always on versions of programs that you choose. htc designed a widget to replace each pane on the WM version, for example text email weather etc.
But there is a big similarity. The weather clock, the dialer, the keyboard, and mostly the weather widget, is exactly, down to color and design, the same. And so when converting to Android, if you liked htc, the desire will be instantly usable.
For more info you can search my thread in the TP2 forum. By the way I am dying to have an Android phone released like the TP2, except more 2010: very thin, wider screen, good speakerphone nice keyboard. I'ld buy that droid in a heartbeat if it was gsm, b ut i hate the keyboard. thats the idea though, or like the toshiba g1 w/ the qwerty version.
Hello all.
I am going to replace my X1 to a newer and faster phone.
I decided to remain with WM, even if I briefly considered switching to Android or iPhone.
The first time I saw the upcoming HD7 specs I felt really disappointed, especially for the non-removable ram and the almost-obsolete CPU being used.
Now, considering that running WM7 on HD2 should be quite feasible (I don't really need WM7 anyway), I don't see any good reason why I should get an HD7. HD2 is also currently becoming cheaper in the last few weeks.
Besides audio surround, that I don't need, what's a real plus of HD7 compared to HD2 ?
Thanks
S

LOL. Wake up man, HD2 is dead i.e., Windows Mobile 6.x is dead, you will not see anymore new app for it (may be some). And within 2 years it will be completely dead.
Seriously you want to spend money on an almost dead phone?
As you said you wanna stay with WM that is Windows
No need to think just go for Windows Phone 7 - HD7!
Android is doing grate on hd2, meego and win phone 7 are probably on their way... so hd2 is a grate phone still... almost why would you spend much money on a worse looking phone with same specs?
So yeah... i just bought my hd2 via ebay ... and I'm lucky!
But winmo 6.5 sucks balls

You may all be right guys, but considering the hardwares I simply feel that an HD2 running WM7 is simply an HD7 that has a price 20% lower.
Again, an HD2 running WM7, not running WM6.x.
Where do I go wrong ?
The problem is if we indeed get WP7 running on the HD2, I doubt it would be as fast as on the HD7. And there might even be (unseen for now) problems (kinda like how Android is. Great, but far from perfect).
If you want to stick with Windows, I would suggest waiting to see how WP7 turns out on the HD2 before buying.
I am currently in same situation. I need a new phone but can’t decide which OS to choose from.
WM6.5X is aged OS and not much new 3rd party application are made currently for it. However MS still releasing new builds. Seen and using builds like the # 24635 or higher the speed and stability has improved significantly.
WM7 is new seams fast and stable, but completely New OS many of the Basic futures missing compare to WM6.5. For my own opinion the UI is just too simple. It reminds me to Internet page that made just with basic CSS. The biggest disappointment that I have with WM7 is the missing Sync functionality with my MS outlook and Not able to Sync certain MS office files from my Desktop. Furthermore AGAIN the UI, even though you have 3.8” screen but mostly 2/3 is used all other areas is just simple Big Fonts and empty area????
Yes I trust MS will further improve and implement things which are not yet there but definitely they will need TIME. Even with such company and with such resources they can’t do it all at least before 1-2 years’ time.
Android OS and Seen the new upcoming device HTC Desire HD seems the next choice for me after WM6.5.X! HTC DHD has very similar specs like the HTC HD2. However I still struggling with Android because of Not able directly Sync with outlook (there are some 3rd party application though) but mostly because I have never used one for few days to see hands on the limitations.
However having all those thoughts I still considering highly to getting the HD2. Because It still has :
-One of best hardware spec after 1 year
- it has still the best OS that can sync with desktop and MS Outlook and make fully use of Calendar, TASK, NOTES, Contacts, Categories
- There are still tons of old but still good application’s which do the job
- the Price of the HD2 is at least 30-50% cheaper than others.
Be frank if I can get the HTC desire HD with a good price and Android has not much limitation with Sync with desktop then I might consider to give up on HD2 and WM6.X or else I am thinking to get HD2 and see How the WM7 looks alike in 1-2 years’ time

Tinkering...
Like I said.
Some people just love the neverending wait for workable (and often bugg as hell) ROMs. The rest of us just want great devices that work.
My expeeiences with the HD2 tells me that it is not that device.
Why do you think its price is dropping like a brick despite it having better specs than over half of the "high end" android phones on the market?
That phome sucks, and your chances of havimg to replace it multiple times after you buy it is much higher than average. They have issues with overheating/reboots requiring the main board to be replaced. WM6.5 is crap - I don't care how well it Syncs to a computer.
No HD video recording - the still camera is also terrible. hTC Sense does very little to save this pjome with the types of deep modifications they've made. 80% of WinMo apps are made for Stylus use and the browsers suck. If you go to Opera 10 u wont have pinch and the screen scrolls oddly.
You can sit here and give all excuses you want, but that's jusy the way it is. Dual booting Andtoid is not viable for the majority of users, and who cares about Meego (rhetorical)?
You're better off gettimg a good phone and experimenting with OS-01 in an emulator on a PC IMO.

First, I never said Android has better Sync then WM7!!!!. Be Frank I really don’t know how good or bad android is with desktop sync. Or else I would have come to end of my decision.
But be frank I do have expected that MS the should have at the beginning better integration of MS office and desktop sync then they going to have now. I mean they are the maker of MS office, Windows desktop etc. I wonder how one will transfer Office documents, PDF files etc. to the device and able to work with those documents without having a file explorer on the device. Where is the SD card that I can use as Mass Storage and transfer files from one computer to another?
it is a joke that I have Windows desktop which has all my information on it then I have my windows phone just beside of it But I can’t Sync calendar, contact, Notes, Task, Documents without going through a server. well I can understand that MS trying to push the sales of exchange , SharePoint servers, usage of Live/Hotmail’s as they wanted make money with sales of their other software’s or advertisements in Hotmail/bings’s. But as a user which paying about 700-800USD for device I wanted to have the choice to been my own master.
All the hardware problem you have mentioned are not the issue of the OS but rather it is the problem of HTC which also going to manufacture some of the WM7 devises. HTC is pushing out so many different devices and trying of course making much more money that they can. Naturally the quality
Coming back to Wm6.5! I have/had a HTC HD which is obviously hardware wise much less then HD2 but with cooking my own ROM the device and also the OS has performed greatly.
I could have few application open running at the background and switch between them as I like but still for whole week I didn’t need to reset ones. Yes I agree that so many cooked ROMS are out there which have so many crap in it. Furthermore so many guys loading so many different application I wonder how many guys really need some of those regular base.
Well it become again long, at the end everyone is free to choose what one things is right
And google isn't pushimg the use of gmail and google search with android. You're startimg to soumd fanatical, so I won't respond anymore.
And lol @ worrying about Synching media or documents. WP7 will do all that flawlessly via Zune and SkyDrive/Office Web Apps.
Sure, you can multitask on HD2, but ur battery will run out faster than a hooker runs out of condoms. Have fun with that.
Multitasking on smartphones is overrated, anyways. Just something fanbois talk about when an OS they won't use anyways doesn't have it (usually before they use that OS and know absolutely nothing about it, to boot).
Just the lack of decent 3rd party apps will be enough to kill off WM6.5, and of course you'll still be waiting for God knows who to fix the bugs.
I'm not arguing about a phone I own with someone who has never used it... Seriously.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I'd go with either the HD7 or Desire/HD personally. Buying a HD2 is going to leave you with a choice between poor hacked versions of modern OS's or an abandoned OS with diminishing support.
The hacks are great for existing owners but they aren't really a reason to buy one. Too buggy/unstable.
My opinion: for now - get HD2 definitely.
WP 7 has many annoying limitations
which will effectively hold back the platform for over half a year.
And don't listen to idiots saying "WM 6.5 is dead".
I mean - what dead?
Now the platform has thousands of apps,
it will take some time for WP 7 to reach this level.
Devices are working, not disappearing or exploding because of WP7.
WP7 will be a treat when Microsoft will stop it's idiotic policy
and let users use their devices.
Wait for some time for WP7.
Can you wait til Christmas? If so, then do! (or, at least, that's what I'm doing and I already have a HD2)
You'll get to see whether WP7 has been ported to the HD2 and, if it has, how it is running.
You'll also get some information about WP7 and whether, or not, it is going down well. That might help influence your decision. Equally, you'll get to see how people are reacting to the HD7.
Oh, and the big plus, I imagine that the HD2 will have dramatically dropped in price and, you never know, the HD7 might have dropped a little, or even some newer phones will have come out...

WM6.5 is dead. Most of the better app devs have either moved to other platforms, or moving to WP7.
The apps exist, but most of them aren't that good, are badly maintained (if at all), or are clunky as hell (side product of the underlying platform).

HD2 is so great. It can run WM6.5 and Android smoothly. I think it will become the first one can run 3 OSs. You can now switch btw WM, Android easily. HD2 is a great WM6.5 phone, a good Desire, Nexus, Desire HD, Desire Z. HD2 is also a Evo one without 4G funtion (3G, wifi, hotspot are all working).

HTC HD2 Leo
Rom: Dutty's N4s V3
Radio: 2.15.50
Android Build: Mdeejay FroYo HD, Z, Lex, EvoRevoluton...
Having 2 OS in your device is a huge advantage, belive me, I love having WM 6.5.x and Android Froyo in my Device... HD2 is my best choice
Also it has the requirments for Windows Phone7, so there is a good chance to have it in your HD2 ( there will be some bugs at the biganing )
BELMOT
N8ter, is it possible that you don't like WinMo? lol
I have an HD2 and love it, but would try to wait like others have said to see about WP7. You never want to get stuff when it first comes out b/c of HW/SW issues.
I won't get HD2 due to:
This phone is old. (I know the spec similar / same with HD7 but it feel like getting old device).
Official support till WM 6.5.x
WM 6.5.x is dead product soon.
Soon no more release of WM 6.5.x apps.
BAD quality LCD.
I get HD7 because:
Design better than HD2.
New Phone.
Official support WP7.
No worried on apps in coming future.
Better S-LCD screen.
New experience, what for take HD2 since you own X1 before, it is kind of bored owning same things.
** Kindly take notes, HD7 not support surround sound, only HD7 surround edition support surround sound.
Dear Paulius,
Hi Paulius, thanks for getting in touch with us about all your questions.
Firstly, HTC do not control this application, the person in the thread referred to it as "the official OTA HTC Froyo update". The updates actual name is Google Android 2.2 (Froyo). It is just on a HTC device. If you want to know anything about this application, you will need to contact Android Market Customer Care, or Google Customer Care. We do not have information nor able to supply support for third party applications, I am sorry about that.
<this was regarding this bug: http://androidforums.com/desire-sup...ogle-talk-shortcut-people-gone-froyo-bug.html - as you can see, they don't have an idea on what they are talking about, besides, vanilla froyo does not have this bug, and this update is indeed HTC's, not Google's>
With regards to your Wifi turning off, you may have the sleep function off, but this will not stop the phone from stopping the Wifi connection when it loses a link and is unable to establish after 3 attempts. This is to prevent the function from draining the battery as constant Wifi connection and constantly trying to re-establish a connection can see any smart phone from draining the battery in just a couple hours.
<I mentioned that Wi-Fi would go to sleep on battery even if I set it to never turn off>
With regards to your disappointment in the Desire HD and Z having "better" UI's than the standard Desire, you must remember that they are both different operating systems to the one you have, where the Desire Z and Desire HD use Microsoft Windows 6.5 operating systems, your phone is using Android 2.2, so unfortunately, the UI's are not compatible and will never be available to one another.
<I was saying that we are not feeling good that they are keeping last generation devices from getting updates to new features of new devices (for example, desire HD sense ui improvements to Desire), even though they are perfectly capable of handling them hardware-wise>
As far as HTC Sense is concerned, this is not yet a fully functioning service and is still in the testing phase, it has been put out for general access as the best test pilots are always the ones that are going to be using the facility on a daily basis any way. It is just a case of sit and wait for everything to be working properly, but in the meantime, expect HTC Sense.com to be quite buggy with most of its functions unusable.
<Yeah, as if HTC sense alone is a service, I was referring to HTCSense.com, which is quite functioning with Desire HD and Z; anyways, good attitude, lol!>
Google have only just released 2.2 to the General Market, you will find that some phones are not viable for the 2.2 update, this will be because that particular device is not compatible, or Google are still working on the coding, but, all phones that can have 2.2 will have 2.2 and I would not worry too much about Android 3.0 for now, that is going to be something that Google release some time into the new year.
<Desire already had 2.2, I was asking about 2.3 update and about wether they were thinking of bringing 3.0 to Desire, when it get's released, of course>
Not to be funny, but if you are moving away from HTC because of something not in their control, or because of a little rough patch during their development stage, then you can not really call your self a loyal customer, rather someone that is with HTC because it was the better option at the time.
<I mentioned poor HTC Hero support and said that I was disappointed about Hero not having the 2.2 update even though I didn't have it anymore at the time, because that shows how HTC treat their customers... and what are they talking about? I had like 4 phones from them and they dare to not call me loyal? And everything is exactly in their control!>
Besides which, it is Google whom you should be talking to about their updates and your questions about releasing of the 2.2, their future updates and so on.
I hope that I have answered your questions, if you have any more in the future, please do not hesitate in getting in touch with us again.
All the Best,
Carl.

C'mon HTC. You cant be saying this!!
Hum.....so I guess we can reference this next time some one asks for windows on a desire. Lol
Carl needs to be fired for saying the Desire HD and Z run WinMo...Seriously.
And what if I want WinMo to my Desire, where can I find the solution? Should I write to HTC Support??? LOL

Looks like wrong hire Fire him
I doubt Carl works for HTC..
LOL.
Retard most likely work as a PR junkie, not very well versed technically. Nor is he updated about the technological progress that the company is going through. Answer was pulled out from where the sun doesn't shine without reference to the appropriate departments.
Best response will be to complain about his lack of technical knowledge in helping you
Well this can happen if the customer support are not familiar with the product he or she's supporting.

He don't know what he's talking about...but I can't blame him for that, that's his bosses fault for hiring him, maybe they can't get people with enough knowledge in the subject for the wage they are offering.
But bring rude to a customer like that is out of order.
work experience boy?
Honestly it doesn't surprise me, every time I have contacted HTC support it has given me the impression that I was talking to a monkey. What country is that support team in? That is unacceptable, what an absolute joke.
Just remember next time you contact HTC to ask for Carl...
perhaps this will help: http://www.htc.com/sea/support/customer_care.html
Such negligence in hiring for such an important post, can be disastrous for the company's repute.

Come on guys, give Carl a chance.
He must have been drunk when he replied you, there is no other explanation, he must have been drunk .... and distorted.
He might be trying to flog off the older WM65 devices they have left in stock?
or probably more likely, just confused with the HTC Touch HD2 or something... Desire HD, Touch HD2... maybe he thought the Z was a 2?
who knows - maybe they are just trying to fill up the staff for the xmas period...

No, he just make cofusion with the template they have..Htc customer care have some templates to use for every case, and every template have some input (like the device)..Maybe he just put the wrong input (wm 6.5) and he didn't read the output that sent u...
LOL..joking..but I think thats the real situation, htc has always replied me with some default template..

I know what you mean - I always feel I get a default template reply, but with some areas for free text.... I get a MUCH better sense of a real response from HTC than with a lot of other companies to be honest - which is why if you ask the same question twice you do get different replies - but mostly the same 'content'...
I do generally feel a reply has come from a person rather than a machine at least even if its wrong!

Good day, today is your lucky day you are the 1000th XDA user to ask this question your prize is the ability to use the search function on these forums for free, enjoy!
Whilst it would be fun to play on WM on the DHD, there's not really much point. I don't think anyone's going to spend any time doing this.

It is great that really can do WinMo on DHD, DHD with higher RAM n ROM space n it is available all around the would with reasonable good price; if it can do WinMo or WP7 with it, I think is extremely great!

with what source? windows is NOT open source.
you can dual boot 2 android roms i've seen that but i have never seen a windows mobile OS on an android phone.
i have seen android on a window's phone as android is open sourced.
you need the ability to boot from the SD CARD which has been done but only for another android rom. please search this forum before posting as mentioned by the user it has been asked so many times.
the answer is yes, you can run flash winmo on it
but you'll gonna have to find somebody to port winmo onto the device
also you are able to flash android, winmo or win7 onto iphones or any phone that runs chips off the arm architecture only that porting and writing device drivers for your device will require a real expert or an inside job
I don't recommend you to use WinMo at all.
Just to open a healthy discussion only, exploring more possibilities.

The correct answer is WHY???
I spend days here reading how to clear all bugs on my hd2 android. Everything is matter of personal taste, but I can assure you that WinMo has no advantiges to Android. If you haven't used WinMo you don't know the meaning or the words clumsy, user-unfriendly, and finger not friendly. Poor overpriced software you got it. Thanx to the developers here this OS lives on and some good Alps are released. Thanx to cookie and HTC there is a good shell, but I used to spend so much time to get something working that now I have out of the box. Porting Winmo to android phone is time spend in vain...

I've got to admit that you're quite correct. I never really realised how crap Windows Mobile really is until I tried Android. It needs to die the death it deserves...
I understood how much better and polished Android was seconds after starting a build on my Diamond. And I am talking about quite buggy build. Flashing NAND Android to my HD2 was the first thing to do in the morning after it was released...
I'd rather pay NOT to have WM on my phone, so I dont understand the will to use it at all

If you live in Bulgaria this is Tom Tom is even not an option... Android is a little bit on the weak side in the GPS department. But WM GPS software I use ( has good maps ) have had no updates since 2009...
Hey tomorrow I have to purchase a new phone for myself.
Previously i owned HTC Viva wm 6.1 phone. I was very happy with it as i can remote desktop my servers, install, play with lot of apps, can view my office docs etc, copy data from any PC but thing missing were GPS and a faster CPU. And at the END that phone was stolen.
Meanwhile i used a cheap Nokia as in interim phone.
HD2 launched: HD2 and Wp7 announcement was made. I was daily visitor of HD2 forums (XDA) learned it was a cool device for me. then the fear of wp7 not upgrading on wp7 dealyed my purchase.
I eagerly followed all wp7 presentations, seminar, webcast etc and believed its a good os by good company.
HD7 launched: Loved its specs and was really looking cool, especially the facebook integration and was very excited. Loved its speed and positive reviews But i looked some of the programs like skype which did not have app for wp7 and copying data only through pissed me.
I didn't liked Android because of its look and feel. and thread by me supports this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624884
Desire HD launched: That one exicted me the specs similiar to HD2 and HD7. I said hey why not look at android when whole world is going after android. And I found it has everything what windows mobile provided and a it more like resolution, 720p videos , google voice support free, skype app. and top of that htc sense , htc offline gps maps locater, www.htcsense.com feature. So I have decided to buy this one.
Hey this is not a flamewar topic and dont start here I like both of them infact are cool to have. If possible I would love to have the wm6 like customization on hd7 or wp7 like UI on DHD both ways are good
Now my questions.
Best feature i like on HD7 is live tiles and facebook integration and live update.
Can we get similiar experience on DHD.
How is the sound quality (call) as well music quality through Headphones.
Is there anything I will miss If I go with DHD not buying HD7?
Sorry I posted this in the wrong forum. So made this post again as I have to purchase phone tomorrow itself. hope this mistakle will be ignored.

Wow, there's long thought that you have..
Anyway, it's the same thing going through my mind.. actually, my dhd is a mistake that i make.. originally, i had place my orders on hd2.. Until that thing came to the store after 3 weeks of waiting, it was broke, not functioning at all, not even start up, even with charger.. they even told me that was the only stock, and if i want a replacement, i have to wait for another 1 month, what the heck..
Then, the store offered me wp7, and i said, i want ONLY hd7, none others.. after 2 weeks of waiting, the only thing that came was htc mozart and 1 unit of dhd to put on demo.. as i want only 4.3" screen, i buy the dhd because of i need phone asap..
And, it was the most beautiful mistake i ever made.. The phone is fast, vibrant and huge.. And the ability to hack (hd2 is far more hackable) puts my dhd stay in front of current htc release version on android.. Use gingerbread from cm7, and love it more every minute..
I would say, go for it, buy dhd, and u'll be amaze..

Do you think it still needs window 7 looks, because believe me, you can do lots, try rooting your phone, adding a custom rom,
i even put a theme together, with more apps on one row in the ap drawer, transparent all over, to give it a glassy effect, even the right hand key you can change it to whatever you want!
loads you can do with android, i hate windows phones now but was a huge fan of them, previous phones include, xda orbit2, htc touch hd, hd2
welcome to android
Welcome to android. I can't speak for wp7 facebook integration, but dhd has enough of it(for my taste) , you get more apps, roots and customizations . I read your post about different os, you sound like someone in need for a wm 6 is with a modern feel, well android is just for you. I love both my phones, and I wait for official cm to remove all the bugs from my hd2

Takes at least a week before the battery behaves like it should
I had a HD2 and loved it really was deliberating about getting a DHD as i literally had one already with HD2 and android.
I really liked the windows homescreen with CHT mods and then being able to pop into and out of android seemed the perfect system for me.
But about 3-4months now with the DHD i've put a few custom roms on and i love it, so silky smooth and fast, its smooth in a way the HD2 won't ever be purely because of hardware.
My HD2 was brilliant but the DHD is just awesome IMO
