This has been built from CyanogenMod 5.0.8 sources, so it is not a port. It is designed to be better, faster and more reliable than any other Vanilla ROM around here. Please test this and report the existing bugs, so that the final release would be, I dare to say, bugless.
Also, please post a suggested codename for VE5.0 here too, along with your feedback. Thanks.
Note(for previous builds users): A dalvik-cache wipe is mandatory, and a data wipe is recommended because otherwise contacts might not be shown correctly. Also, if you have Facebook installed, remove it prior to flashing this build.
News: This is the final testing release. The next one will be the final one
Build8 to RC(build10) changelog:
- fixed Facebook sync
- removed camera timestamp and fixed camera icon
- fixed some code errors
- another attempt to fix the boot issues -> if you cannot get past the Hero screen post your logcat here; I've added some debug logs
- improved GPS reception - it's the first time I could get a fix from inside my home
To do:
- fix multitouch in Google Maps
- other goodies that are not bug fixes
Features:
- VanillaEclair optimized kernel @691/176
- all hardware working
- USB tether(more info below)
- LauncherPRO as the default launcher*
- speed and functionality improvements
- no timestamp on photos
- auto-brightness, button lights, trackball lights
- rooted, A2SD, busybox &co
- facebook sync
- ... many more
* I chose LauncherPRO because I really can't stand the ADW Launcher that Cyanogen has chosen as the default launcher for his ROMs.

More info on Wired Tethering:
I've managed to fix it with kosmiq's help. So, you can enable wired tethering from the menu(settings -> wireless and networks). But, when you disable it, you won't have ADB access. To regain ADB access, you either reboot or turn off then turn back on USB Debugging. That's all.
Note: You will probably notice some changes in the settings menu. Feel free to explore.

Hey,
RaduG, what's the score with JIT with this ROM? I just downloaded it and wonder wether I'd be able to use old VE4 script or is it built in or automatically on or what?
Thanks again for your hard work!

@kad3t
Please, if you can, test it without JIT. JIT could bring on other bugs and I don't offer support for those . You can use the VE4 JIT package, but replace the included build.prop with the one in VE5.

I will rebuild the package for you tomorrow, I'm now on windows and I'm too lasy to reboot into Linux.
EDIT: When you replace the build.prop make sure you save the dalvik line(probably the last one) from the old build.prop and paste it in the new one.

Have the same issue like you, although i have 145Mb free in storage on phone.
I did restart phone but i keep getting the same message.
I've not tried this ROM, but this was an issue with the Eris-leak ROMs, and I suspect the cause and solution is the same - see here.
There's an update.zip on the VillianROM Wiki that will do this for you if you don't want to try to the commands yourself.

I solved the problem by setting the correct directory permission
I think the above patch works the same way
Yesteday, I also ported it for Magic and yes, it's laggy, all apps and framework are much heavy than Eris, so all become slower.
I want to try to port FriendStream and RSS News over Eris
Thanks for this, RaiderX303 !
Auto brightness?
Is the auto-brightness feature working? Or rather all power management for that matter, cause this is the major issue on all custom 2.1 ROMs up to now.
Sorry to read that GPS isn't working, so not all hardware is functional! Liar, liar
Thanks!

You can't call him a liar, He said hardware is working - so GPS is switching on - the software for locking onto a satellite probably isn't working - but I'm sure there was a fix for this posted in the Villain Rom Wiki that should do the same for this rom.

anyone noticed that the facebook contacts only go to 100 is there some sort of fix for that..? other than that running great... going on 6hrs since flash...
there isnt any current fix for the facebook contacts, i believe HTC dont think people can have more than 100 friends
Mine has synced more than 100 as far as I am aware, although I have not counted them.

what do you exactly mean by buggy?
Any chance of some screenshots of these glitches so we can see for ourselves without actually having to flash it?
screenshots of rosie glitches added to OP, there the only issues really present apart from the pinch to zoom tutorial issue where it shows the save scene screen instead of the tutorial, that bug only applies to first time use.

ChocolateEclair 2.0 is based on the official HTC 2.1 WWE update, which means it supports a whole lot of different languages.
I've put a lot of time and effort in getting this release ready, so it should be the last major update the ChocolateEclair project will get. I really hope you enjoy it.
ChocolateEclair 2.0 changelog:
- Dalvik-Cache to /cache
- new bunch of kernels(only default and freekernel for today, the rest will come tomorrow)
- added some very nice wallpapers(HTC wallpapers -> the last 7 of them please tell me if you like them)
- changed boot sound - i like it more this way
- desire lockscreen - there is no big difference, it just fits better with Sense IMHO
- updated Astro and Launcher PRO
- added ipfilter owner module to all kernels(requested)
- data roaming enabled by default(requested)
- speed improvements

What has been done to the official ROM:
- added root
- added busybox
- changed kernel
- a whole set of changes and optimizations
Note: The recommended radio version is 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.14.
Note: Please perform a full wipe if you're coming from a previous relese. It is not mandatory, but it's much safer to do so!
Features:
- stable and fast kernel, pre-overclocked @ 691MHz / 176MHz
- tweaked internal task killer, scheduler and battery life management
- all hardware working
- A2SD - enabled by default if you have an EXT partition on your SDCard
- Launcher PRO
- very fast boot process(50s)
- USB tethering
- excellent battery life
- root
- you can change music volume while the device is on sleep mode
- wireless tethering, Astro file manager
First boot will take a few minutes, don't panic.
I have also included LauncherPRO in case you're not a Sense fan. To enable it, go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications > HTC Sense > Clear defaults. Then press the home button and choose Launcher Pro from the list.
Additional information/FAQ:
How do I enable Apps2SD?
Apps2SD is enabled automatically if you have an EXT2/3 partition on your SDCard.
Can I use SetCPU or OverclockingWidget?
Yes, you can, but only with the Freekernel.

NO, it is not deodexed. And A2SD worked before, didn't stop after a few apps... I don't know what you are talking about, really.
Have the icons been changed from the standard Sense ones? The Internet one looks different. And come to think of it, the Footprints icon looks like the Gnome icon?
All icons are stock.
Good!!
nice work bro.. keep it up..
Radug,
fyi:
I wiped everything with amon-ra recovery image.
installed, got a gapps FC, so I couldn't sync with my google account.
But a reboot fixed it...
[EDIT] launcherpro, maps and astro doesn't appear as installed in market... can I just reinstall them using the android marketplace?
or do I need to remove them first using astro for example.
Everything seems to be running fine
BTW I installed with just a dalvik wipe from 1.1r2 and it's still running fine.
so are the different kernels purely for different CPU speeds? or do they offer other differences too?
How many other kernels will come? Will there be a 768 kernel?
I will backup now ;-)
Great work man! And my theme still works for this ROM. Very nice
very good rom!!!
but boot sound is very strange...(notification sound?)
and lock screen is strange(the wallpaper don't move....
FroydVillain 1.1.9 INFO & Release Notes:
Hi folks, ninpo has been working on this one non-stop for the past few days, so he is having a well-earned rest, and I'll write up this release.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
REMEMBER the ROM will only be at peak performance after it's been rebooted a couple of times, and when you've opened your apps once prior.
adb install won't work on this ROM, until you tick "Unknown Sources" in the Menu > Settings > Applications menu.
This appears to be a new security feature. Similarly, apps pushed to /data/app won't work either. You might not notice the issue, but the app does not get any of its permissions it should have, meaning that it is probably useless, and might FC constantly or whatever. So remember to tick the Unknown Sources box
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
When you install this ROM, DO NOT USE GOOGLE BACKUP OR RESTORE. It really slows the ROM down, like all Froyo ROMs, and it uses loads of battery even when you think you're not doing anything. So it's not cool. So turn it off in the setup wizard
This ROM does NOT come with the optimal kernel installed. It comes with a safe one. You NEED to read the section "kernels" below for more information about these, and which to choose Then, once installed, open the app "CPUSpeed" and set up your CPU speeds. This ROM uses the interactive governor, which gives much better battery than other governors... So, set interactive as the main governor, then set your minimum and maximum. Then repeat this for sleep mode. If you have a 352MHz base kernel, set both the max and min sleep speeds to be 352 MHz
So... What's changed?
[*]CAMERA WORKS FOR VIDEO AND PHOTOS (thx cyanogen)
Includes DSPManager
Autobrightness fixed
Includes new CPUSpeed app- no need for SetCPU
Faster boot process
New boot animation
Pressing menu twice will unlock screen
Big kernel changes (more info to follow)
Different build method to improve binary performance
So... How do I get it?
A full wipe is MANDATORY for this ROM, regardless of what you're upgrading from
See here for download information etc.

awesome rom, tested a bit and i'm finally gonna drop my 2.1
Just FYI, the two kernel variants (19MHz base or 352MHz base) are for the two different types of Hero users. One group apparently cannot put their phone to sleep at anything less than 352MHz or all hell breaks loose and the others can set low speeds no problem.
So choose based on your past overclocking methods.
EDIT: I'll post a kernel changelog tomorrow. Too tired now. Lots and lots and lots and lots of fixes though.
Just one more quick little question if y'all don't mind.
Does this release include the stock keyboard dictionaries that were missing in 1.1.1? Like Dutch etc.

Yeah it's a bug, my fault. I cheat and use Cyanogen's repo so I don't have to make my own Hero vendor/devices. I didn't strip CMparts out properly in this one.
I, and Team Villain, are proud to present you with the third major release of the SenseGinger ROM. This is completely rebased on the latest Vision RUU, so most if not everything should be working as well as you would expect from a Sense rom.
It also includes a couple of my own tweaks and fixes as illustrated below in the screenshots.
Now on to the release. As you might expect there are a couple of things that are not working, some being more critical than others. I'll try to keep the list below as up-to-date as possible, so please read that before reporting any bugs.
As always a picture says more than a thousand words, so here are some screenshots:

Do i have to fast boot? Cant i just add to the SDcard and open up rom manager and install from sdcard?
wooohoooo!!! cant wait!
YAY Villain! CONGRATS for the awesome work you do and sorry you've been busy but as always it's greatly appreciated!
EDIT:
man this thing is huuuuuge. 176 megs? yummy.
EDIT (again):
Can confirm this is working nicely! My HTC launcher (bottom bar on the home screen) was compressed and looked all funky (looked like the images weren't aligned correctly) but is back to normal after a reboot. Woohoo!
EDIT (bug):
_ - the question mark button on the hardware keyboard does not work

Fastboot is for when flashing the recovery, if you already have CWM 3.0 you can skip that part and just flash the rom.

Congrats on getting a 2.3 sense rom out

Yes, it's very much faster and more responsive. Plus, it uses a lot less memory.
Downloading right now and will flash afterward. Cannot wait to see this in action. Thanks for putting it together, and looking forward to seeing future updates with it.

arrrg..... the missing question mark in the hardware keyboard!!! it seems like this button isn't mapped to anything..
I happen to ask a lot of questions when I text message... questions like:
anyone know a way to fix this?

Hahaha, well, pushing keychar layouts from sense roms that do have all the keys mapped should work just fine.
I don't wanna write a book in this thread about it, but I googled it when I was learning and now I can always get my keyboard working on almost any rom..
Nice! Creds to the devellopers!
