Best bet is to just reflash the ROM. Or, you can extract the file out of the ROM zip and copy it to the correct location using Root Explorer.

If the apk was in the System/app folder, you cant just install it. You need to push it to the system app folder with Root Explorer, then set permissions, then reboot, then install, then reboot again.

[Q] Q: Extracted files using Root Explorer but cant get them back.

Heres my story:
I rooted my phone. After rooting my phone I used root explorer to extracted some of my apps/games to my PC. After the extraction they were no longer .apk files. Is there a way to change them back to .apk? These apps are no longer offered in the Market and cant find them anywhere online. Also, I have the backup (using nandroid). Is there a way I can open those files up and pull the .apk from there? They are .img files?
Trying to do this without having to unroot my phone load the ROM back and get the .apks again (this time using another program) and then rooting the phone again.
If the apks are still on the comouter, just change the file.extention to apk

I tried that but it didnt work. However, I did have the Clockwork MOD recovery of the build. So I just booted into it using the ROM manager and used ASTRO to back up the apps as .apk files and then rebooted back into my rooted ROM and works fine now. Thanks

[Q] Rip APK files from phone?

Hey guys, I know how to bring an apk file from /system/app using ADB Pull, but if the app isn't listed in that directory, where is it and how can I rip it from the phone to my computer?
What I'm ultimately trying to do is install an app that I can only download in Sense, then rip it from Sense and install it on my CM7 ROM.
U can back the apk up with titanium back up and then go to the folder on ur SD card and take the apk from there

It is found in data/app. If it's a protected app it's in data/app-private. Or you could use astro to back up the apk. Titanium backup doesn't just backup the apk, it's in different files. Or you could backup with titanium and then restore.

Great, thanks! So all apps, no matter the source will be found in one of: /system/app, /data/app, or /data/app-private, as long as they're installed on internal, correct?
Once I rip the .apk, can I rename it?
Yeah, should be, I've never seen anything installed outside of those directories. I personally just use root explorer, that way I can do anything straight from the phone. It's well worth the convenience. You should be able to rename the apk to anything you want, especially if all your doing is putting it on the SD card to install.

Now, if I found an app had a .zip installed in /data/app and an apk installed in /data/app-private and I want to try to install it on CM7, should I adb push the .zip first to /data/app then adb install the apk? or just adb push both to their respective directories?
I would think you could just regular install the apk. Put it on your sd card & install using a file explorer. As for via adb, I'm not sure. I copied a protected apk to my SD & installed through Astro, it installed to /data/app and was no longer protected so I think the apk by itself would be fine.

Hate to disagree but u can backup with titanium back up then go to the titanium backup folder on ur SD card. It stores two files per apk. One is ur data for the apk the other is the apk. It just uses weird names on the backups. Much easier than using adb to pull apk or a file manager to go on a hunt for an apk all over ur phone
Titanium backup can backup apps and data. If you backup the app, you will have 3 files...data only creates 2 files. Apps can be find in /system/apps, /data/apps, /data/app-private, and also in .android-secure on your sdcard. I recommend root explorer to pull the app though. If its a sense only app, it may not work in AOSP.

You are partly correct. It crease three files. One is ur data from ur app another is almost useless and the last is the actual app. I pull apps that way on a daily basis for theming or looking at how other apps r themed.

[Q] Get apk files of installed app's

Hello everyone! I've been trying to find the answer to my question in the forum but I have not succeed.
The thing is that I want to get the apk files of some of the app's I have installed on my Desire.
I use Norton Mobile Utilities to check the directory where the apk file of each app is stored. Some of them are in /mnt/asec and these are so easy to find there and save them via copy-paste. On the other hand, some app's are stored in /data/app-private/ but when I check this directory with my file browser it appears completely empty.
What can I do?
Thanks in advance!
Get App Backup & Restore from market and than make backup to specified folder on sdcard.

For backing up and restoring apps i can highly recommend titanium backup. Using it everytime i change rom or install current new. Never had problems.

to see /data you would need root explorer.
or you could try My backup Root, backup apps you need and then extract .apk from .rar
some file explorer programs like Astro have this feature as built in component

Just tried both Titanium Backup and Root Explorer. They both work. Thank you all!
Titanium backup is probably the best way to get APK's quickly.
I use Astro too which you could try too.

[Q] accidentally deleted clock after root (4.04)

I rooted my phone following this thread for 4.04 successfully, but I accidentally deleted the system clock app while trying to get rid of the bloatwares. (I think it's called clock 1.0 in root uninstaller)
I checked the system/app folder and I have a file called "clockPackage, odex", but I don't have the "clockPackage.apk" file. Is that the file I need to get the default system clock app back? If yes can someone please upload it for me? otherwise what do I need to do to get it back?
Thanks in advance!
Just open up the rom you have wherever its saved extract the clock.apk. Then copy and paste it to system/app with the same permissions as the other apps r-w-r-r or 644 and root. Then reboot when it boots back up go to app drawer and you will see the clock app again.

thanks for the reply! sorry for my noobiness, but which file is the rom and how do I extract it? I looked through the unzipped files I used for rooting and didn't find any apk files
If you are rooted get root explorer to open the zipped rom then extract it to sd card then copy and paste like i said.

[Q] Clockworkmod backup wont delete

Hello,
I wanted to change my kernel today, back to stock, so I tried to recover a previous backup I had from clockworkmod. But when I tried to recover it said "Md5 mismatch". So I went to Youtube to figure out why this was, I followed the instructions but there is no file path for my backups. I tried all of the different file paths "/data" that was empty, "/mnt/shell/" and that was empty as well, as well as a few other file paths. I eventually gave up looking for the backup and decided to erase the backup I made. But when I tried to delete it it said "There was an error renaming your backup. Please choose a unique and valid file name for your backup." I tried renaming it something else but it still says the same thing. Anyone know what I can do here, I just want this file off of my phone. Any help would be much appreciated!
Extra info. When I made the backup I decided to rename it as "5-14(Before custom kernel) but when I got the prompt to change name, I tried changing it to a valid name. Now the name is stuck?
I've also included some pictures to help understand my situation.
Rename the folder download to backup or backups and check

I renamed the folder on my PC and it worked fine. But nothing changed. I looked in ES file explorer and folder name is still "download" and wont change
May be some problem with rom manager.Try renaming using "root explorer". If you want to get your stock kernal you can flash it using kernal flasher.

rename the folder that contains all backuped files (without space). put that folder in another folder named "backup". put backup folder in another folder named "clockworkmod". put clockworkmod folder in data/media using any root explorer (enable mount option in setting). try to restore
I used the root browser included in rom toolbox and that seemed to work. Thank you for your replies! I truly appreciate it

Thank you for your reply. Luckily I didn't have to go through that process, it seemed to go away after using root browser. Thanks again!

Hi,
Yesterday i made a backup using ROM manager v5.5.3.7 (free)
For some reason i made a second backup by accident, and something went wrong.(probably lack of disk space)
I now have 2 backups, i would like to delete one. (since i'm running short on disk space)
Tried too delete it but i got the "There was an error renaming your backup. Please choose a unique and valid file name for your backup." error.
I tried everything provided in this thread without any succes. (sorry for replying on this kinda old thread)
Anyone has an idea how to help me out?
Running CM11 (nightly) with stock kernel CM.
Thx for any help!
Update:
Nevermind, went into recovery and deleted the corrupted one!
