I am trying to get u2nl to work with autostart on my Evo, but i am getting stuck on this last process, as it is not explained very clearly on the Eris guide what it is i am supposed to do.
I have looked around on the internet, and it seems a lot of people are running into problems too, Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

cool, thanks for the huge tip man, so are all the adb instructions the same as the ones in that eris guide??
i am trying to use the adb instructions but i am getting errors, here's a screen shot:
also it was not explained what screen the phone should be in, should i be in the fastboot screen? should i hold down volume and power, and start putting commands in the command prompt when the phone is in that screen? or do i also do volume up and power? or where exactly am i supposed to be on the phone while executing these commands??
also one more question, i still haven't actually gotten my txt or call to work (phone still isn't activated but i remember when i flashed my TP2 i could send and receive sms after i put in all the settings in the EPST menu. i am using PRL 1014. on this one, as of now it's giving me an error:
SMS Error
Cause Code: 97
Error Class: 2
I have very little experience and knowledge of adb but? It says the directory or file your TRYING TO CREATE is already been CREATED. So now the questions are, should it be there or should you just skip that step? delete the folder then run the command again?
I have the apps (not just the internet) working on my evo. Here are some guidelines that you may or may not know already:
1. Make sure you're fully rooted, I don't know if the partial unrevoked method works.
2. Make sure your rom SUPPORTS IPTABLES! The stock evo rom does not I believe. I am using the latest damage control rom. This little clue was hard to find out.
3. You are right in imputing the commands into the terminal. Or you just just download a terminal emulator and run the commands directly into your evo, which is what I did.
4. Even with completing part three of the eris guide, certain apps won't fully work, though most will. All the google apps (like maps and navigation) seem to work except voice to text. And you can log into the apps market, but you can't download, but I believe that's because and android market does not allow app downloads over a 1xrtt data connection, so that's no fault of the evo or even metropcs (my ghetto carrier). youtube, layar, flixster, goggles and all that other good stuff work just fine.
With regard to your specific question, I did too get an error message (I forget what specific one) when I was trying to do part three of the eris guide with a stock rom. I flashed to damage control and went through all the steps without problems. And don't flash a new radio, or else you'll have to reinput all the specific metropcs/cricket settings in a program like qpst.
Btw, shazam is freakin' sweet!
to get all apps working on the evo is a little different. you need special bat. files and certain commands to get everything working including full apps, mms, gps and picking up 3G service. i have mine fully working on cricket
@ theboundless:
Well thanks for all those tips, they are certainly useful.
1. i am fully rooted.
2. did not know that, i do have just the stock rooted rom actually, i didn't want to get a custom rom because apparently they are missing a lot of features. can you recommend that that has everything working and uses htc sense?
- the main reason i ask is because i know good sources for WinMo roms, like ppcgeeks, but i don't know where to get the best android roms. do they have them all here at xda? or is there another site that all the devs use to post their roms?
3. ok i kinda get that, but i am not familiar with linux, so i don't know if the commands are going trough or not. it just seemed like the commands where echoing, i would love to see an actual screenshot of what a successful execution of this process looks like.
4. hmm sounds like you don't have 3g working yet huh?? well i've had my 3g working on cricket on my HTC TP2, i'm pretty sure i'll be able to get it working on this one, i hope.
@ Dream_7:
hey thanks for the info, sounds like the .bat's do an internal proxy re-routing configuration somehow, and that's pretty much what the phone needs, just like how i used proxycap on windows mobile to get my email and everything working.
well that's awesome that you got it working, would you mind helping me out here by letting me know where i can acquire these bats from, and how i would go about applying these procedures to my phone?
Hey kenshin
I do have "3g" working, tho the metropcs cdma network is pretty slow, the data connection type they use down here in cali is the 1xrtt cdma, which is lovingly referred to by many as "2.5g" Its the best metropcs had to offer down here until 4g time.
I flashed the latest damage control rom and it does support iptables. I'm not sure about others but my guess is any modded rom would.
As for the terminal commands, like I said you could just input them directly into your evo if you download a terminal emulator from the market. There are a lot of them, and out seems like any are fine.
And yes I have gps working.

nice, btw i think i just found out i don't have full root, i thought i had full root and NAND access, but it doesn't seem so...
i did this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720565
and i thought it was an upgrade of this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706411
so i don't know where to go from here since i've already done one thing... i just need the nand and full root, but i don't know which method to go for since i'm kinda halfway, don't know which one is the best pickup road
I haven't tried any of those 3-click type root methods, I did the old-school full root:
//forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=123714
Just add the http at the beginning
The directions are explained very well, I just followed them line by line. It might look like a lot, but you only have to do it once. I do believe the autostart program needs the full root access, but don't quote me on that.
After you fully root and nand backup, you can flash a new rom compatible with iptables. Just a reminder, don't flash a new radio or else you'll probably have to reinstall all your metropcs/cricket phone settings.

I would like to get everyone's opinion, I'm looking at a couple options of how to get rid of Sprint / HTC Junk that runs at startup and continues to startup - Sprint Nav, Sprint Zone, Nascar, all those things. I'd love to hear alternate suggestions as well.
1. Startup Auditor - Seems to do a decent job of keeping things from starting, definitely reduced boot time, but I'm unsure of how it actually operates - is it just another task killer? Or does it actually take things out of a startup list without running in the background? I've been playing with it for close to a day and am still undecided, at times it seems to help, but other times I don't think it really did anything. It seems like having root would make it completely pointless, since you could edit things yourself.
2. Wait for Root - I already did the OTA update so root is not possible, from what I understand. With root access, I'm sure it would be much easier to remove the actual applications, and furthermore install custom roms without the bloat.
3. ?? You tell me please
Thanks guys!
If you're comfortable using adb, you can root here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718889
I rooted my yesterday after the OTA and flashed Fresh 0.5.3. It doesn't have most of the crapware.

Funny I was just reading that. I have zero experience with ADB, but perhaps that is the best route. Can't be too hard to learn, right?
Thanks for posting that. If you have root, it mostly eliminates the need for a program like startup auditor, right?

Correct. Most ROMs already have the crapware removed, however, once rooted you'll also have the ability to remove and do anything else you want.
If you are uncomfortable with adb, don't be. There are enough tutorials and videos around to walk you through the process. Not only was I a complete noob when I moved to Andriod from the iPhone but I am also using a Mac which means the commands are slightly different. However, with a little trial and error I was able to root via adb the very weekend the phone was released when only adb instructions existed.
And, going forward you'll never have to wait for "Idiot Guides" again. Whenever something new and great comes along you'll have the skills to implement it right away.

I'm following these instructions, they seem the most complete. I followed every step successfully and refreshed the pages, and it told me to reboot and run part2. However when I hit
adb reboot
it returns
adb: permission denied
What did I do wrong here?
EDIT: Missed hitting exit. That step wasn't there in original, it is in the recompiled though.
go read up on that thread, do a search for 'permission denied' or the like and I am sure something will come.I saw it a few times while reading that thread
err... Are you sure it didnt just mean reboot your phone?

So this already has a home. But I'm seeing that it works, very likely in ALL galaxy S cousins, and in fact possibly even in all 2.1 and 2.2 android phones. This is NOT the joeykrim method but it's related (but simpler and better, and obvious to most of you devs). Sadly this slowly gets rediscovered somewhere about once every two weeks for the past couple of months . There's a thread in epic started a few days later with the same trick, and a thread on droid forums:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/re...08-multiple-phones-root-them-unroot-them.html
a couple of weeks earlier with the same trick. And a page on cyaongenmod where they show it for just one of the cousins.
It's nice for anyone who doesn't want to flash, and/or doesn't have a fully working recovery mode needed to use some of the one click methods (update.zip). Moreover... it probably works on pretty much EVERYTHING. The one clicks distract attention from the fundamental solutions because they don't always work on everything and new phones come out like popcorn.
Also I've included some useful related information about how to setup some of the popular initial root tools (with some personal bias, but not unlike a custom ROM), and how to undo it all. Making it a whole package custom ROM alternative (albeit a very lite alternative ). I haven't seen another post with all of this in one place.
I don't know where I should post this though because there is no general forum that I guess is likely to get read much that connects all the devices this may work on. But since it's working on more devices now and probably on froyo too, it seemed it might be helpful to someone to expose it a little beyond the shw-m110s sticky on issue 6. (even it has already been exposed before).
isnt this the same as superoneclick lag fix?
this didnt work for me on my i9000 froyo rom.
Ok.. well, does rageagainstthecage still work? Do you know? Did you try just that? the information "it didn't work" isn't very helpful. But then when you have one button you tend to get one response, and that's partly my point.
If you can get root with rageagainstthecage, the rest can all be worked out. And much more easily if more people in the community start to fear less the internals cause they're given information about what's going on, and it's VERY simple, as you can see in my post.. there's only ONE thing (properly installed su) you need to have root on ANY device. (getting root is a different issue, but the hard part is done) And there's no reason not to be explaining that in the BIG FAQ.
Indeed.. it looks like it probably is the same thing (but it's not really documented) . That did not exist when I first posted it.. hence why I worked it out myself. Personally I'm not a fan of one click anything, not as the primary reference at least. Because, ok.. it seems rageagainst the cage probably works on anything. A decent faq somewhere actually EXPLAINING what's required for root, and what rageagainstthe cage does (losely) and at least an example of how to use it on some device then is a good starting place for new phones.. new froyos.. good reference info.
However instead what happens is somebody else comes out with their latest method.. releases it as the mysupermagiconeclick method.. or even if it's script, without any explanation (and most people wouldn't understand, but maybe a few would). And then what happens?
Joeykrims script gets adopted on like 5 diferent devices where it isn't even needed(no offense to him.. he provided what he knew and got some people going who wouldn't have been otherwise). Multiple problems are created because of it. and that's not even a one click. That's a script for people who aren't too afraid to type script and still nobody noticed it wasn't needed?
Now a big one click comes out and someone just says "this doesn't work".
I see so many people saying "I don't know how to use adb" (even after you just told them "type adb push". It's very different that the winmo atmosphere a few years ago.
Anyway, I rageagainsthecage is the only alternative I know of to flashing or update.zip so it would be good if it got a little more attention I think and if people stopped treating the task of copying in 3 little files with permissions like some mystery work for "devs" to handle and folks to praise on high. I mean it's nice if someone can make a gui(and it takes work).. but it's amazing how hard it is often to just find an explanation of the very simple thing that's actually being done. (edit: even in Clshortfuses superoneclick thread.. he links to an older thread with the commands, but it's in page 49 or so.) There's like 5 commands needed with about 2 slight variations (nand unlocking and the setuserid joeykrim problem) that will root anything without flashing or destroying data, and that's not explained in a simple faq around here.)
By the way another reason it might not work is the rageagainsthecage exploit doesn't always (usually though) work the first try, and works better on some usb ports than others.

and I found the same thing on some german site.
maybe /data/local/tmp doesn't exist on froyo for I9000. If anyone was playing with a prompt and had instructions that point out that you only to need to copy it to ANY place where you can write and execute, they might figure out what's going on in one minute, and find another place to copy it to like just /data/local or wherever tmp got moved to. In every case I've seen problems, it was never that the exploit didn't work.
Now ok.. it's possible that somehow they've figured out a way to completely block writing new executable files anywhere from a shell. In which case it would need to get installed through an apk maybe, but it's still possible. Applications do run, all the time; so can this. Knowledge is power... not one click buttons.
ok then ill give you a bit more detail.
you are right, i cant see why it is failing although i can see where it is failing. if i had access to the script to see the steps its trying to take i could work it out but its compiled into a binary as far as i am aware.
the script pushes the file to the device, and it runs for the first loop. it installs the su command and superuser.apk, then loops back to make further changes (i.e. it kills adb and reestablishes a connection). when it loops back it tries to mount something, and fails saying "failed to find mount point" or something similar.
the su command works in shell/terminal until the phone is rebooted, then it is lost. the superuser doesnt work at all (i.e. no superuser requests are generated by apps requiring it, they just fail saying root not available).

Great it sounds like you basically understand what is going on and aren't afraid of a tiny bit of typing. I think MANY people fit that description including myself a few weeks ago. But... the steps are not usually explained as you say. So... click the link in my first post again. It's all explained there. I've started a section there on exceptions.. including what I think might be going on with yours, but your description is a little different from the ones I copied in, so we don't know yet. So go at it, and good luck. I'll be glad to help if I can but my crusade is to get more people who want to to be able to play with it themselves (and to be able to ask questions too, though especially when getting new devices/roms rooted)
I assume you know about adb and and how to run it by hand in the first place. I don't describe that and there are faqs that do, including I think the Big FAQ. That obviously must work first.
P.S. I may add some linux/mac scripts shortly... piece of cake to do.. already did it for the joeykrim method. CLShortFuse is adding linux support but it involves 175 MB of cross-platform compatibality libraries and is at least almost as hard to setup as it is to just use adb. To each his own. It's a neat accomplishment if it works.
For me I push the unroot script to my phone and can unroot when I walk in a store if I want to. I like Rynza's apk for that, but it doesn't work with my phone (3 button, yes... update option, no )
too much verbage for me daddybear...
but anyway ill give it a shot next time i need to root my device and let you know if i come up with anything useful.

actually.. if this is really true.. it's almost certainly a joeykrim style problem. The other symptoms are harder to follow, especially depending if superuser never worked or only didn't work after reboot. Anyway, this will certainly get resolved in time I'm sure. If you had su working at all.. then it's just a matter of applying the right tweaks/work arounds (which are likely already known).
Hello!
I am quite new to the forums as far as posting so don't kill me. I had rooted my previous slide before using one of the mac methods and I was happily running CM7. But a week or so ago my phone just stopped responding (buttons didn't work, unresponsive touch, even after going back to stock). So i sent the phone back to tmobile and got a new one. I am unfortunately having trouble rooting this slide with the Mac OSX methods posted. This is a new slide (opposed to the old one which didn't have a slash between the 0 on the keyboard) and many of the methods are for the old one. I have used almost every method there is out there and I have run into snags which are unfortunately unavoidable for me. Is there a set method on how to root and mount clockwork recovery for the new slide on the mac? or is it an existing one that would have to be modified, i.e. adding ./ before every command or something completely different?
Thanks!
Could you further explain the errors you're running into?
for one, i cannot get the phone to be discovered in recovery mode in the terminal using the loop.sh, it only shows it as offline. That is the big thing that is stopping me right now. i used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705695 method the first time and it worked flawlessly, however the link for the files are dead and I cant find them anywhere. also the new slide method ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754020 ), really doesn't give clear instruction on how to run clockwork

Here's a link to the latest Mac android sdk: http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r10-mac_x86.zip
as for the Slide Root package, I couldn't tell you, since I don't know what the rooter initially had in the folder.
The new rooting method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754020 , should work on mac OS just fine. The bit in the end about clockwork recovery is talking about s-off, which you don't need. But, without s-off, you cannot permanently flash clockwork, you would have to reboot into the stock recovery and manually flash clockwork update.zip unless you used rom manager to reboot into recovery.
In other words, following the steps on the New Root Method by nbetcher will work just fine for rooting your phone. If you don't feel comfortable yet working in areas of your phone that could potentially brick your phone if handled poorly, then don't bother with s-off and just use rom manager to reboot into clockwork recovery. It flashes it for you, so you don't have to manually go through the update.zip thing in the stock recovery.
I hope that helps, let me know if it wasn't explained clearly enough, I can try to better explain it.
Unfortunately for the guide you sent me, I type in the last command which is ./exploid and unfortunately it ultimately fails, for example it says i am supposed to see a # sign, but rather i get a $ sign. I have also used the non pc method which is listed in the n00b's faq, and when i come to the last step, I get a permission denied for misc

Thanks to every one here.
Let's work together/
This looks to be exactly what we are looking for. This will definitely open up the possibilities of modifying the current kin os, or porting a new os to the device. However, this guide is useless without the tools and files mentioned in the document. You said you had some files as well, do you have these files?
SPST Vn.n.n.msi.
PB10ZUnPB20ZU (Lab) Vn.n.n.msi.
SPSTUSBDriverInstall.msi.
InstallPMXMTP.msi
With these files we be able to finally successfully hack this phone.
This is great. We have the resources, now we must figure out how to get a modified os on the phone using the tools.
Awesome find KinPhoneLover; not sure how and where you got this SPST, but it could be the very thing that is needed. For people who bricked their kin phones, they should try the "refurbish feature" to see if that will successfully reset their phones back to "factory mode". As for getting a new OS on the phone, in the pdf at the "Upgrade section", when you browse for the firmware file, it is a .ecn file. Not sure how flashing is done for Cyanogen and those other Android custom firmwares, or their file type extensions. If SPST only supports/allows .ecn files, that could be a problem trying to use those Android custom firmwares.
wow, this is exactly what we needed....did this get leeked or something? it says its from the sharp corp., so im guessing they got it somehow by chatting with them? why isnt there a lot of buzz about this??? i can read my phone number and everything off of this...so close to getting android, or just putting java apps on it..
Too bad its only 32 bit But yes. This is one step closer. Please, people with brick kin, test it out. See if we can get the ball rolling again.

yes, i have to use my slow home computer, instead of using my quad core 64bit laptop
Just got everything up in running. Is anyone else having a problem with the SPST constantly dropping the connection with the phone and reconnecting? I'm not sure if this is due to running XP in a virtual box or if its something I can readily fix.
Short Answer: doesnt work.
Long Story: This needs your phone to be ON even for refurbish option and then, able to connect to a COM port. Unfortunately, that doesnt happen in SBL / APX mode and phone doesnt boot (autoreboots) so no COM mode available.
Just another software installed (for me).
No news in the front, guys. I guess i just need to get rid of verizon software (the one trying to get an OTA), not something from "normal" kin states.
Okay so now that we have a tool to upgrade the software all we need are custom firmware files to flash to it. However I don't see any option to read/dump the firmware using this software.
dezgrz seems to be correct, there don't seem to be a way to read/dump the current OS to make a backup of it. The PRL and ERI options don't seem to be what we want. The Provision option is the only option where we can read stuff from the phone. Could someone run that option, check all those settings (NAM1, security, feature, data, etc) and write it to a file and upload it? Maybe there will be something useful in there.
I gotta order a new battery, then I'll see if I can get anywhere with this... need to load up a 32bit OS first, apparently.
Either way, this is a huge step. Maybe not complete, but still a huge step. Thanks OP.
Hm..??
This seems interesting. I been watching this site until someone "Exploited" the phone. I have a mac, and does this work for kin? What does it do?

That features seem to be available already with "QPST" software... which didnt make anything advance (yet).
As i said, i renamed my NAM succesfully, and changed some security options (which i guess that doesnt matter, cause i *was* able to work anyway).
not much you can do that you cant do already, besides looking at your phones info. I was able to change voicemail numbers, was *86, i changed it to to just 8, and it says voicemail, but doesnt connect. Still playing around.
Why don't you just take it back to Verizon and get a replacement. How would they ever know you messed it up trying to hack it?

You should read the whole threads and/or other threads to understand why.
This phone needs to get hacked. I love my phone but i dont like the OS that the phone has. If this phone isnt hacked by the time summer comes, ill be glad to participate. I've hacked many phones but this may be a challenge. I would like to see apps on this phone.

Out of all the things I know, why wouldn't I know that its Javascript? Jeeezus. I would happily spend time on this phone but my grades are more important. Now what site could I go to on my phone to play apps/games.
P.S your post didn't really help me.
just wanna let everyone know that i have fully flashed the CDMA HTC Desire to cricket with everything working, sending/recieving mms, and all apps access internet fine, using tokens flash, and conaps edited mms apk.
i have not seen ANY posts ANYWHERE that said if this phone was even able to be flashed, so i figured i would let everyone know it is, also i am running the latest cyanogenMod rom
This great news! I was considering buying a HTC Desire and flashing over to cricket since I'm able to get it for a good price.
Can you explain how you flashed it?? and what carrier was under the HTC desire?
pm'd you, if i didnt put it clear enough(i didnt go to much into detail cause i figure you know how to flash roms/rooting) i will break it down alittle more if needed. and the phone originally was nex-techwireless.
I just bought a used Desire from eBay with the intention of flashing it to Cricket. Could you PM me the instructions as well? It would be most appreciated.

Well I managed to root and flash a new rom, but I'm still having trouble to how to flash it over to cricket.
you must have a sense rom flashed in order for the diag mode to work. if you already flashed another rom flash one of these as a temp, and once the settings have been made you are free to flash another rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992802
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947481
first root the device with unrevoked, once its rooted download qpst(i use build 366)
now after thats download and installed you need to download the htc diag drivers and put your phone into diag mode(its either ##diag, ##diag#,##diag*... it starts with 2 # followed by diag just not sure of the last symbol) once its in diag mode plug it in and the computer will instal drivers, wait for that to finish then go to device manager and manually update the htc drivers using the download htc diag drivers. after that is all done you must now open qpst configuration and click ports, then click add new port and add anything you see about your phone. now once thats done you need to click start clients and select service programming. and set all settings like in these pics http://s798.photobucket.com/albums/yy266/darkmage1991/ and dont forget to write a cricket prl i suggest this one http://www.4shared.com/file/we3VLGo_/42900.html (its a cricket sprint hybrid), once those are set push write to phone.
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=bravoc get the newest cyanogenmod build (7.0.3 atm) dont flash it until you get the qpst settings set in a sense rom. now download the cricket v10 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7261108&postcount=1 and flash it.
now download apn backup & restore, exfile explorer, and autostart off the market using wifi.
open your voice dialer and say "open proxy settings" once thats opened type in "wap.mycricket.com" and "8080" for the port #
now open apn back & restore and restore these apn's http://www.4shared.com/document/h5A_Izso/apns.html
Now we get to the part where we get MMS working, do this stuff you must open exfile explorer and make sure you mount as rewritable
Delete the mms.apk located in system/app
Drop the modifed mms.apk into system/app
Delete the telephony.db file located in data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases
Drop the modified telephony.db in data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases (Be sure to rename the telephony.db file you downloaded back to telephony.db before dropping it back into data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases)
get the modifed mms and telephony here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968582
ok i think i got everything, if something is not working let me know i may have missed a step. and remember to thank all the people who created all those files for there hard work.
i know it seems like a lot of work but it really isnt, i redo my flash about every 5-10 days cause i cant decide what roms i like lol, and it only takes about a min to get it flashed again but you do not have to redo the qpst part only the downloading of autostart, ex, apn etc, and getting mms going
if you guys are like me and flash alot of roms, you will find some dont let mms to work, and other dont alow internet for apps to work(but internet for the stock browser will, this is due to iptables some dont support it) its just trial and error =P
and i suggest going over to 2fast4u.com and check out his AWESOME cdma roms for the desire his work is awesome and so far all his roms work fully on cricket
I have success of getting my 3G working .
However, i can't make calls lol.
And to add, The mms fix link is broken when i try to download: telephony.db.zip. can u post a different link for it?
Do you have to activate it to recieve calls or something?
(edit): i cant extract telephony.db.zip. Do i take the whole file and drop it? or do i extract it?
no dont extract it rename it to telephony.db (remove .zip)
My wish came true!!
Goood News, it works!!
I can recieve calls and text and web(even thought its kinda slow at the moment).
Everything is correct from the tutorial, its just i had to call cricket to register the HTC desire under my cricket account. Ugh... It was a long process but i got it .
No activation, it worked right after they register my MEID thiny from the back of my phone .
Sooo yeah, how can I speed up my 3G? Its slower than my Huawei ascend's 3G. :/
I still cant get MMS working -_-.
o wait, its cause your ascend was on the "android" plan paying 55 a month but flashed phones are only alowed to be on the 45 a month plan, and that plan requires the use of the proxy (wap.mycricket.com) and the proxy has a speed limit on it unlike the android plan.
and if someone actually let you stay on the 55 a month with the flashed phone, then that means internet shouldnt be working at all due to you installing autostart, and setting the proxy settings. something you can try is open your voice dialer and say "open proxy settings" and erase the info and see if the internet even works, if it works what uninstall autostart.
and mms requires the modified mms app, telephony.db, and the apn's to be set using apn backup and restore, if you did do all that redo it. use exfile explorer and go into /system/app and delete the mms.apk and paste the modified one in there, after that click and hold on it and go down to permissions and set it like this(the x's put a checkmark in leave the o's empty)
xxo (user)
xoo (group)
xoo (other
now do the same with the telephony.db, then open apn backup&restore and delete apn's then click restore and use the apn file linked.
Need Help
Hi guys, sorry to interrupt.
I've been on the net for quite some time now searching for a solution to my HTC Desire problem but this is the first time I come across people who seem to know what they're talking about!!
My HTC Desire was working fine for almost 5 months ( I bought it from a close friend who brought it from Romania). the phone is already rooted or flashed or what ever you call that, I get a Joker holding a card on which is written S-OFF and around the Joker is Written "Why so serious" when I turn on my phone (if that helps you know what ROM or Root the phone is equipped with...)
The thing is few weekes ago, the phone began turning off by itself, just like that and I had troubles rebooting it ( sometime it just keeps on rebooting all over again uncessefully, so i had to get the battery out, wait few minutes before hitting the power button again). the Camera and the Camcorder stopped working suddenly and the phone starts rebooting every 10 minutes max.
I tried to root it again with unreviked 3, it was working pretty fine until the program tried to rebbot my phone and the Mothef....r wouldn't reboot (original problem) so communication was lost and rebbot was uncessfull.
I installed the latest version of HTC sync from HTC web site, but it wouldn't detect my phone !!!!
So now, I wanna flash the existing ROM with THE ORIGINAL one, the HTC official one as if I just bought the phone from a store. Is it the Solution for my problem?? and if it is can you please explain to me what to do exactely in the process ( if you can explain the terms you use "cricket" "build 366"...)
I know it's a lot to ask but I would be greatfull if you could help.
Thanks.
Ill try it out. I was using my stock 2.2 froyo with sense instead of the cyanmod since i like the interface better. I was sending text through the sense rom but cant send any mms apparently.
Another problem that i came across cyanmod's latest rom is that it has no market place -_-'.
No luck :/.
Is there a rom where I can have working MMS? lol
As for the telephony file. I just realize I had to create all those directories for me to put the file in, could that be part of the reason why?
i believe i had to create it also the file goes in this directory /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db , as for working mms rom, cyanogen 7.0.3 works fine, i think you have something not set or wrong.
and for the other guy i would reroot and flash a cyanogenmod rom and see how it is. and make sure you choose the correct rom(gsm is for desire's with a sim card, cdma is for desires without a sim)
Thanks for the guide, while I won't be using it myself, I'm sure someone will. I'm trying to make a CDMA Guide thread so I might use it and link to it.
you dont need worry bout it , this guide is only for people that are wanting to flash the phone carrier to cricket from uscc or another carrier. so not much people need this info, and the people that do need it can find it with the search button like the last people have done.
USC Revert, HBOOT 1.06, and Carrier Text on Lock Screen
DM, thanks for all your work on this. Would you happen to have a .qpst settings file for US Cellular should someone decide to revert it back? Or perhaps a .qpst settings file for Cricket that just needs the DN changed where appropriate as indicated in your screenshots? That would be a great addition to this thread.
Second, I would like to comment here on how rooting via unrevoked did no work for me due to my phone having HBOOT 1.06. I had register for the beta for this program: revolutionary.io
That unlocked the bootloader for me an installed CW Recovery.
Third, I have been trying to get rid of the US Cellular on the lockscreen in CM 7.1 with no luck. Any suggestions? Carrier Name app: fail. CCName: has become deprecated. SQLite edit: custom_lock... record not in secure table as indicated on this thread: forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/22493-bring-back-settings-location-security-show-custom-message
Finally, I would like to readdress the possibility of a phone reprogrammed for cricket not using the proxy. Has anyone tried this recently?
I think changing the value in build.prop is all.
Need help getting 3G data working
Okay, I was flashing this phone for my father-in-law for a Christmas gift, so I was finally able to get the ESN updated with Cricket to activate the phone. Phone calls work, SMS works, but 3G does not and neither does MMS.
3G is the only service that I am concerned with fixing at the moment, so I was wondering if anyone has some input on how I can troubleshoot the problem. I noticed that the Cricket guy put him on the $55 Android plan; is this part of the problem? Do I just need to not use Autostart and remove the proxy? Do I need different APN's than those provided?
