Buying replacement glass? - EVO 4G Accessories

This might not count as an accessory, but I'm looking to buy a replacement 0003 glass for my Evo. This isn't a separation issue; rather my friend dropped it and cracked the glass. I know you can buy replacement glass and digitizer for the iPhone for about $15, but the only thing I can find for the Evo is $130! That includes the full upper part of the phone, but I don't think I need all that. Unless that's all you can get, of course.
Even the places I know of like Repair Universe and DealExtreme that have other HTC parts, don't have anything for the Evo.
Any leads would be appreciated.
Thanks,
TJ

I assume he's no longer your friend now.

If its still within your 30 days call and add the insurance! There isn't any other option but the $130 piece, right now at least. More will become available but that's your only option now.
Posted via XDA Android app from Evo

I got it on the day after the launch, so it's been longer than 30 days.
I guess $130 is better than $600, or whatever the replacement cost is.
Thanks.
TJ

Any news?
What did you end up doing? I just shattered mine.

u can get the replacement glass on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-HTC-EVO-4G-...881258?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item23097a8aea
but it's way easier to replace the whole glass+lcd assembly:
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-EVO-4G-OEM-...019912?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3cafb6a348
obviously way more expensive though.
if you get the glass+lcd replacement you have to get the right type, there are 2 types (one for novatec and one for epson, they have different connectors). i think that seller has both types but check with him first

[Q\W] looking for a digitizer

Hi guys,
So I scratched my screen, and one tried using Displex to get rid of it.
After many many minutes sent last night and tonight, I've given up hopes of Displex working, or of finding a way to get rid of the scratches.
So, I'm looking for a digitizer now. The cheapest ones I can find are over 30 dollars on eBay.
Know any other places that sell them at better prices?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Hey you should just goto your dealer or carrier from whom you purchased the phone and ask him to replace the digitizer i think its better to pay a little more than getting a cheap digitizer as it may just spoil your entire desire experience or if the scratches are bare minimum you could put a scratch guard on the screen and continue using it. i would recommend contacting HTC service center or your dealer if the scratches are really deep than purchasing of e-bay or something.
Or if it's insured just oops dropped it!! -- make sure accidental damage is covered by the insurance first lol
EDIT[] the ones from Ebay are sometimes for cheap chinese clones so better to go to official place if this is the route you are going to take or wait for someone to respond that knows a reputable ebay seller

Atrix 4G Replacement Parts

Anyone know where I can buy replacement parts for the Atrix 4G?
I was able to pick up an Atrix 4G with a cracked screen (LCD is fine) for $315 on ebay.
Anyone have any parts source?

Haha that site requires him to buy a minimum of 3. At least we know he will have spares.
Nice, I think I'm going to hold out a week or two to see what happens but if not ill jump on it. If anyone else is looking for one of these let me know and I can order it and I would be down to split them up at cost and ship em if you paypal me. I'm paypal verified and have a 100+ ebay rep
wait, r u on at&t? if u r, why buy a used/damaged atrix for $315, which is 115 bucks more than a brand new one on contract? n on top of that, u still have to buy the replacement screen? just doesn't make sense right?

he might of already used his upgrade from at&t or not an at&t customer. 315+60 is a steal for an atrix. you can sell these easily for 500-600. not everyone can get at&t contract price...

I actually used my upgrade to get an Atrix. hadn't upgraded in years because I had a rogers HTC Dream and then I bought the Nexus One straight up. I used to run a little iphone repair business and figure I'll have no problem fixing the Atrix. This is just to make a quick $150-$200
Interested in split-order of Atrix replacement screens
I shattered my screen yesterday. So far local stores have been no help.
I am going to one last store today to see if they can get me a deal on a replacement phone -or at least repairs- . If that doesn't work out, I'll be interested in going in 1/3 on a replacement screen order.

Booooo! I, a poor student, now living abroad and with no contract options, almost bought that same ebay phone and was even talking to the seller when it disappeared. Back when globalparts sold the screen for $50 (but still, minimum order of 3.) But, iFixIt makes it look easy and you should have no trouble finding people to split the screens with (if I lived in the US still, this'd be my strategy.)

Is there any way to replace just the glass...? I scuffed up my glass pretty bad...

Just because its gorilla glass doesnt make it indestructable - you can still scratch and scuff the screen...
You can order the glass on Ebay now. I would get the digitizer also because sometimes its glued in the glass. And dosent come off easily. Would rather just tear it apart once....

when they took apart the atrix they found that the screen was completely separate.
I've ordered replacement parts from www.ccn.cn before and while they aren't always OEM parts, they fit and work regardless. They don't have much of anything for the MB860 at this time though, other than the back cover.
I bought one from ebay a few weeks back but have been busy and then realized i didn't have a torx t5. Ordered a small screwdriver kit for $4 with free prime shipping on amazon.
Just did the replacement. I used adhesive pieces cut from ones for iPhones to seal it on. The teardown was a little bit more difficult than I expected. It will be much easier the 2nd time around but the ifixit really doesn't give any of the details. I noticed I left a small smudge behind the glass/digitizer so I may take it apart to wipe it. If I do I will make a teardown video. The biggest issue was that all of the ribbons are held down pretty firmly by strong adhesives. I was very impressed by the strength of the bezel. Everything worked fine first time I put it back together. I used to fix iPhone screens pretty regularly, I've probably done around 40+ of them, so that experience may have helped.

[Q] Oops.. Broke my screen wrestling with the GF. What replacement is the best?

Title says all. I was goofing around and had my phone in my pocket and landed on it cracking the screen in the corner. Digitizer still works but where can I find a real honest to god OEM replacement screen?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-LCD-DISPLAY-SCREEN-REPLACEMENT-HTC-G2-DESIRE-Z-/350485715231?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item519a93991f
I don't want to get a cheap ripoff replacement but this looks legit (I guess) Anyone care to give an expert input on if I should get this or not?
Much thanks in advance. (Back to my Moto RAZR V3 til then)
are you sure you broke the digitizer, the lcd screen, or both?
the digitizer should cost you around $20
what you posted is the actualy lcd screen
I would buy from a US seller just avoid any complications.
check the feedback rating on the ebay seller you are buying from
chances are, they have sold the exact prduct before. See what other buyers have to say about their purchase
The digitizer is fine. I checked the function using droid explorer screencast. I cracked the LCD.
I just don't want to replace the screen with some knockoff poor quality LCD.
Thanks for the reply.
Then buying any lcd screen on ebay should be fine. You should understand that generally people on ebay aren't trying to sell you fake or non quality products, unless its blatantly a scam or too good to be true. Buy from a US seller just in case something goes, its easier to deal with. China and other overseas sellers may be able to get you the same product for less, but transit times can take a while. And paypal only has a 45 day grace period for opening disputes to get your money back, in case things go terribly wrong.
-- experienced ebayer
And there's many teardown guides on youtube to get you going. Easy peasy, as long as you're gently and can handle things carefully
By the way, Use the thanks button. A lot better than saying thanks in a post
Gotcha.. I whacked that button for you.
Tearing into the phone won't be an issue. The seller I have linked above is stateside so I will go ahead and purchase that and hopefully be tossing the V3 into backup phone status.

Kind of ressing a dead post, but found this. at 182 dollars, cheapest I can find out on the market right now... recently my phone has suffered a glass shattering as well....
i found an ebayer selling at 250, but became unlisted after a few days (prob sold out right now) and a few other stores selling for 250.
It's going to be hard to find a screen cheap. The screens alone are between 225-250 thats not including if you're paying somebody for the labor. Quite honestly you're better off buying one second hand. Due to the nature of the screen glass and digitizer being married together to create the slim feel it also brings more expense in replacement...and get the insurance next time...its only 25 cents a day.

reason why I dont get insurance is cause there's an extra deductible. of at least 110-130. On top of that, they' might send you a refurbished one, not actually just repairing your phone. And that one may come with more problems than its worth. I definitely don't think insurance is worth it.
You'll end up paying 250 to replace the screen through a 3rd party repair shop, 180 if you do it yourself, or 280 (130 deductible plus 150 insurance cost over 20 months) over the life of the phone to repair a broken screen. If you go the insurance route, you'll pay 150ish regardless if you break your screen or not.
$162 at Samsung
It is $162 directly through Samsung. That covers 2nd day air both ways and the repair. Six day turn around and real time repair tracking. It is truly the only way to do it.
They expedite it since it is such a new device really I don't see how you could choose any other way!

Makes me think more about buying the accidental square trade. I think it's $125 for 2 years. Covering accidental damages.

square trade has a 50 dollar deductible. And I believe the fine print says you can file a claim only once every 2 years. If you file a claim in the first year, you'll have to buy new coverage.
Essentially, insurance is a company that is trying to make money, so I don't see how it is a good investment. But if you do go for square trade, google 30% off or 20% off coupons. They send them out fairly frequent.

Cracked my screen, what are my options?

Hoping to hear from people who have dealt with this before. Cracked my screen pretty badly but luckily (relatively...) it still works as far as i know. I don't have insurance and while I'm gonna deal with it for now I'd eventually like to get it replaced, fixed, or upgrade to a new phone. What are ballpark figures for cost considering my contract isn't up for another year and a half and i don't have insurance? What would you do if you were in my situation?

my advice: get it fixed
newalker91 said:
Sprint will not repair the screen, so that's not an option. Replacing the phone would be around $250 cheapest for a used device, $550 for a retail price device. Sending it in to a 3rd party repair company would cost you the $150 for the screen plus hourly labor, making it closer to $200. Factor in shipping cost and you may as well buy a phone.
Replacing the screen is easy. Undo the 6 philips head screws in the back housing, work a thin plastic wedge around the rim and pop the housing off. Undo the two screws on the board, unclip the ribbon cables, reverse the process onto the new screen. Takes about 15 minutes if you haven't done it before.

If you do find just the glass they don't seal right then they look worse than a cracked screen.
Why not just add insurance and get it fixed that way

Sprint won't allow that. If that were the case everybody would be doing that.
If I were you I would buy dude's screen who is posted above this post and after that I would go on YouTube to see if I could find a video on how to assemble or replace the Epic touch's screen. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
If I helped you out in any way please thank me. Thanks.
If the Insurance was added the best you could do is process and insurance claim and get a refurbished phone for $100.
Changing out the screen is pretty simple. Just make sure you watch the camera connection at the top and the one at the bottom of the board. Every DIYer seems to miss those two.
It's very unfortunate that our assemblies cost so much, when the iphone assembly is like 40 bucks and to get it installed will run about 90 if you don't do it yourself. Our phone seriously needs cheaper replacement parts.

That would be awesome! Just PM'ed you
You can search on Craigslist and eBay for phones with bad esn. And simply make one working out of two.
You can ask on forums for people who bricked their phones beyond returning point and sprint refuses to help them.
But of the guy above gives you a good deal. Take it.

Yes, I went in the day it happened and asked if they could replace it or what my options were. Other than buying a new phone for retail price, they said they couldn't do anything and didn't even do the repairs themselves. They just referred me to World of Wireless (I called them and they were charging $250 for the 'custom order' repair they'd have to do).
Buy a new one off Amazon for $8.00 and install it yourself. It take about a half hour and save a bunch of money
