I'm beginning to notice a problem with my EVO of lately, Sometimes when I wake up the phone and then unlock for the lock screen it just reboots itself. I thought it was due to a custom ROM but this has happen with all the ROMs I installed on my phone (Fresh, DC & OMJ). This problem started to happen when I updated to the latest firmware from sprint. I had a hell of a problem regaining root until there was a proper method released by the geniuses in our community. I'm not sure what is going on to cause this and would like to know if anyone else is experiencing this and if so how did you resolve it.
Have you tried wiping and flashing the stock rom just to make sure? Also, if it happens consistently, you could try running logcat and see if you can track down the problem.

Actually I did wipe and try a rooted stock ROM but I didn't run stock too long to notice the random reboot problem. I ran logcat but couldn't figure left from right when looking at this thing. I attached my logcat. If you or anyone else on this forum could take a look, I would greatly appreciate it.
Does that logcat include a period where there was a random reboot?
I'm on DC 3.2.3 and with JIT enabled I get the occasional random reboot. Seems to usually happen when I'm typing.
I usually get random reboots in areas with no signal, i remember reading somewhere it was because the battery got too hot... but ever since i loaded an fps "fix" for my phone, i haven't had one, and it's been two weeks

So I am having a really strange problem recently with my phone, was wondering if I should unroot and return it or if it is something I am doing wrong. Basically what it boils down to is if I power my phone off from the menu or pull the battery, etc. upon powering back up it just Hangs on the HTC Evo 4G white splash screen indefinitely. I have let it sit as long as 15 mins without booting before, having seen this before in the past I know not to panic now but I just reboot into Recovery and wipe my cache and dalvik cache every time I reboot and my phone reboots back into sense in no time at all.
I know this is not normal, is there something I can do to troubleshoot this problem or is this is a sign of hardware failure?

I've never seen that before. Interesting. What rom are you currently using? Do you have an unusually large amount of apps installed? The first thing I would do, is make a nandroid backup of your current setup, and then do a full wipe and flash a format all.zip, then reflash a different rom. Or just simply restore a nandroid of a known good setup, and see if the problem persists. If it stops, I'd say it was something specific to the rom/kernel/setup that you were running before. If it continues happening on a clean install of a different rom, then I'd probably unroot, restore to stock, and then see if the problem continues. If it does, take it to Sprint. If it stops, and everything is fine, re root it and start over. That's just what I would do, but I've never been presented with an issue such as that.
I appreciate the advice, I'm running Sprint Lovers right now been running it for a few months now, I don't have an unusual amount of apps installed but I did notice that the problem seemed to start occuring when I changed the Kernel. I will try your advice and see if that fixes the problem. I've been wanting an excuse to try the new Gingersense rom anyways.

If it started happening right after you swapped out the kernel, that could be the culprit. If you want to try the gingersense rom, I'll all for it, and will tell ya that they ran super incredibly smooth for a factory rom. However, if you don't feel like changing roms just yet, maybe try a different kernel. I'd be suspect of that, if the problem started shortly after changing to a different kernel. I say try out a gingersense rom, you shouldn't be disappointed (unless your phone still hangs at the splash screen upon reboot, lol).
I guess I posted this in the wrong forum last time...sorry
Hi guys, I'm running this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1485722 and I'm having one major issue....recurrent bootloops from no where. I'll often check my phone after it having been in my pocket, and it will be bootlooping. Or I'll be using an application and it will happen...phone freezes, starts bootlooping.
A battery pull fixes the loop, but it happens time and time again. I tried fixing permissions in CWM but that didn't fix it. I love the rom and want to use it, but its unreliability is such a flaw that I simply cannot.
Tl;dr: I like the rom, want to fix random bootloops. If this is not possible, do you have any suggestions on either similar roms, or straight up better ones with reliability?
Thanks

Again, did you try wiping and reflashing? Are you overclocked
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
I will wipe and reflash tonight, thanks for the tip... hopefully it works =D
I've been having the same problem. The odd thing is that it seemed to only happened to sense roms. I tried Mikrunny, TSMtrinity, TSMvanilla, and Sabotage. I full wiped before each flash and didnt overclock. After a few minutes it would randomly reboot. I got frustrated and restored an old MIUI backup and it hasn't rebooted since.
Working thus far...thanks guys!
I have the Verizon Galaxy Nexus running on CM10; and just this morning my phone began to randomly reboot. I had been running this configuration stably for the past month or two.
The random reboots manifest themselves as a frozen/locked screen for a few seconds before the phone reboots. It looks to be a hard reboot, since it does go back to the Google screen. I have found that using my phone heavily (e.g. gaming) seems to slow the frequency of these reboots(if not stop them completely). At worst; they appear to happen every couple of minutes.
Coincident with the random reboots, my phone appears to have lost all cell network connectivity - it does not even report a signal strength anymore. No phone calls, nothing.
So far, I have tried re-flashing CM10 with ROMManager; fixing permissions, and uninstalling some apps. I don't know enough on where to look to fix the issue, and any help would be appreciated.
you try to flash a custom kernel?

No. I haven't done any major tinkering lately. Never even tried a custom kernel.
FWIW, when I get to the screen with the Android on its back (on the way into recovery mode), it says that my CDMA baseband version is Unknown. Is that normal? Realted maybe?
What radio are you using? Check to make sure it's the latest, I don't know the Toro radios but if it's the same as Toroplus its FH05.
Guess I need to ask for help/idea's.
If I upgrade my "4.3/101" installation to 4.4/230, everything initially works, and then at some point (after a few days) I start experiencing spontaneous reboots. I thought perhaps it was an issue with xposed... so I tried doing this again but removed xposed from my phone prior to upgrading and re-rooting... no real change.
I tried doing a wipe/clean install and then restoring applications & data via TiBu... still have the reboots
I've never had this particular kind of issue before... I expected that a clean install and restoring some key applications via TiBu wouldn't have this issue...
I'm game to try another clean install without restoring anything via Tibu if that would really help...
Is there an on-phone logcat tool that will automatically store logs to my sdcard?
Any other idea's about what might be going on?
Hmmm...
Zero responses, but several views.
Figured out (after looking elsewhere) that I could pull a last_kmsg among others...
Logcat
dmesg
last_kmsg
Can anyone give me some idea's about what's causing my phone to restart?
Just remembered in an attempt to get a different result, I'd actually flashed Gustafo's kernel... hmmm... wonder if I'd get the same results on the stock kernel...
Seems like after a clean install, it's working fine - I'm suspecting this might be some sort of issue with Xposed....
we'll see if it re-manifests...
I just had the same issue fixed. I've had a constant reboot approximately 30 times a day.
I wiped everything including internal SD card, and flashed the 4.4.2 firmware. I was suspecting the Xposed as well but I installed for the heck of it 5 hours after the flesh installation of firmware. I only needed the wakelock terminator for Xposed to prevent battery drain.
After 48 hours even with Xposed, there has been no single reboot so far.
I have no idea what causes this as when I take logs it does not happen at all... But this has definitely happened numerous times while I'm daily driving a custom rom. The same thing happens when on Android Pie and 10.
I've had no reboots at all when using stock rom. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Attached are the screenshot of some logs and it might not help at all.

Here is the log file till the phone reboots by itself
Started to happen to me too
It started to happen to me too, and it is happening across factory resets, full wipes and stock and custom ROMs.
I think the hardware is starting to fall ...
