Save the contacts you want hidden to the sim card and then choose to only show contacts which will only show the ones in phone memory
Is there anyway to create a nickname for your contacts and just not have their full name show up, say in favourites, another thing how do you change the default action when you click a favourite once already selected say "open contact card" or "send message"

I think the only way to change the default action is to remove the contact from the favorites group and then add it back again.
no nicknames possible with the included people app

Is it possible to make facebook only sync with people i already have on the phone? As it is now, it adds anyone in my facebook friends that have added a number to my phone list, would rather have it so that i can manually sync the contacts i have on the phone already, or that it only synced those that already where on the phone, is this possible?
I don't know if it's possible. But in the "Contact" app you can press "Menu" then click on "Display" (i think) and choose which contact's list will appear !
I hope it will help you.
It makes them disappear from people but not the dialer really Annoying I hoped froyo would have got rid of this issue

Yea, that's what am talking about, i know it's possible to not show them in the contacts/people app, but they still show up in the dialer.
Anyone know how to do it? I don't want to see that stupid 'f' icon at the top any more.

Or if you're rooted, remove the relevant APK's
Thanks, removing apk's sounds ideal, was rooted until I upgraded to 2.3.3, now gingebreak doesn't work.

should do the trick, did for me
How simple is this?
Settings > "Accounts and Sync:" "Facebook" then uncheck it. Done.
Simple if it worked, i'm looking at the gray icon in 'manage accounts' and still see the F in the notifications bar.

Use gingerbreak on 2.3.2, then OTA update to 2.3.3 (it's still rooted!), kill the facebook apk's..
How do I get back to 2.3.2? I just unlocked the bootloader if that's going to help me any?

Indeed, if autosync is on you will get the facebook notification icon and a "cannot sync" message regardless of the facebook account sync options.
I just removed the account altogether as i don't really use facebook that much, so web based access is enough.
Hmm, I think I just want to remove all of this FB integration off my phone, I just need to figure out how to get back to 2.3.2
You just have to do one sync and then go to settings and uncheck facebook sync. If you never enter your Facebook account it'll keep asking you to enter it. That's how it work for me.

I go to Contacts settings and set to display only Google Contacts. As I know this should have defaulted new contacts to be added into Google and you no longer need to choose which phonebook to store it from the dropdown menu, but it doesn't work on my GPro.
Any1 knows how to solve this? Thanks in advance

While adding a new contact u would get an option to link that contact to ur google account(save to cloud which can be synced by using ur gmail id) or save it on phone memory only or on sim.. Is this what u are asking? Try saving a new account and watch out for these options.

I'm aware of the options, and it is the option dropdown menu that I want to default to Google. It's annoying having to change it to google everytime I want to add a new contact.
As a matter of fact, I can live without using the phone memory at all!

Looks like this phone really locks down the contact book. You can't even edit your own profile info once you set it. At the top of the contact list there's an entry called "ME." I went to edit it and put my home landline phone as my home phone, then added my cell as a mobile. The home number is greyed out and you can neither edit nor delete it. What kind of nonsense is this?
I'm also looking for a solution.
Clearing data/cache from Contacts and Contact Storage from either Apps settings or TitaniumBackup do not work.
Really frustrating. I'm having a hard time moving my contacts from other phones which can't sync with Google.

Try to use rainbow contacts (get it from playstore) if your other phone had bluetooth on it..
Is there any solution for this Contact problem that Google can't be the default but always the Phone ?
I was hoping upgrading to kitkat would change this, but it didn't.
