Cannot Connect to the Internet with Stock Browser - Desire General

Yesterday I flashed Paul's excellent Sense 2.2 ROM and overall have been really pleased with it so far but have been experiencing one fairly large issue.
I am on Virgin Mobile UK and couldn't for the life of me get a 3G or HSDPA connection. This morning I manually added APN settings, which allowed me to get a 3G connection. I can now connect to the Internet over 3G (though not HSDPA) in apps such as XDA, Google Maps, Seesmic etc. however the stock browser cannot connect at all.
There's nothing in the settings which I can find to fix this so it would be great if anyone knew what the problem was.
Sent from my HTC Desire

Can you list the apn settings please?
Had same issue after swapping to a prepay broadband sim and have literally just sorted it now

I reverted to 'Default' settings which were not present in the first place. For some reason the stock browser decided to work an hour after reverting the settings, though the Android Market is now extremely slow and takes a couple of minutes just to start a download.

Shouldnt you be on Virgin?
Those settings are for Tmobile.

I thought I should be connecting to Virgin and I am as a Network operator, though it defaults with a data connection to T-Mobile, without Virgin even appearing to select.
Both from the manual Virgin APN settings and the T-Mobile 'default' settings I have been getting the same result. Trying any other operator APN settings doesn't work at all, though. Perhaps Virgin and T-Mobile both use the same system or something?

[Q] APN settings for At&t for Desire Z (Bell Version)

Hi everyone!
First, thank you all for working so hard on all these phones. I have used this website time and time again for everything mobile and it is awesome!
Now, I recently bought the desire z from bell in canada so I can use it on At&ts network out here in california. However, I am not getting 3G I have read some places that you have to manually enter the APN settings for their network in order to get 3G speeds. Does anyone know these?
Always grateful,
Paul
u can go direct to att forums unfortunaly im restricted to post links at this time
use this on my unlocked dz from bell and it works great, credits to att forum

My dhd has no 3g connection???

I have been using the phone for a couple of days but I didn't realise until now that my phone doesn't have 3g data connection. I noticed when I am outside home, I can't check my gmail and have any access to internet. I am sure I have always have mobile data turned on.
My phone contract has unlimited data plan on three UK, but I am using it on my unlocked dhd from Orange UK.
Can anyone help?.
Many thanks

Have you put in the correct APN settings for your provider?
Yes, I tried and I see the 3G icon, but I can seem to receive any data. Anyone care to share their apn info on three network see if I got this right.

I wonder if flashing a new radio and firmware will help?
most probably due to your incorrect APN setting value. Try obtain the right APN setting for the telco line you are using.
is it because I am using a different network phone, so the APN setting of my current network isn't implemented by default, because I didn't have this problem with my iphone 4.
Anyone here is on Three UK can lend me a hand with this?
Finally found a combination that worked, there are quite a few variation out there over the internet.
I can verify this one works for the desire hd:

[Q] Sending MMS Under Froyo FRX06, Tmobile

I know there's a ton of messages on MMS, but I've tried searching and have been unable to find a fix for this. I've got an unlocked TP2 from AT&T running on Tmobile, booting Froyo off of my SDcard. I've got an old Suncom sim card with a grandfathered in 2g data plan, it's not the fastest but it's free and unlimited. I've gotten data & mms to work with this sim in winmo, iphones, and every other phone I've tried, but this is my first experience with android and its giving me a lot of problem.
My APN Settings:
Name: Suncom Net
APN: mobileinternet
MCC: 310
MNC: 490 (suncom's old mnc)
APN Type: default,supl
the rest blank
Name: Suncom WAP
same as above but APN Type is blank
(got mms receiving & data working with this in there so I've left it)
Name: Suncom MMS
APN: wap.voicestream.com
Proxy: 216.155.165.50
Port: 8080
Server: wap.voicestream.com
MMSC: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
MMS proxy: 216.155.165.50
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 390
MNC: 490
APN type: mms
I've got data working. I can receive mms perfectly, as long as wifi is disabled. But I cannot get it to work to send an mms. Took me forever to get the receiving mms working and that just turned out to be the naming of the APNs (which I thought was weird) but I feel like I'm missing something else small to get this working.
Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm not getting an error message, it just hangs. Wifi is disabled. And the edge icon comes up and sends and receives data for a short period of time before it seems like it gives up.
If you are connected to T-mobile's network you should try t-mobile's network settings....
These settings work for me with xdandroid on t-mobile....

Looks like your setting are almost the same except for the MMSC.
IIRC, I couldn't send MMS until setting my MMSC to the address I posted.
Nope not the solution for me. If I use epc.tmobile.com as my apn I don't think I'm getting any connection out, probably due to my older sim I'm thinking, just from watching the upload/download icon, very little activity. Don't even get a notification for a failed download of mms picture with it.
Trying that MMSC with wap.voicestream.com as my apn I'm at least getting a connection out, a lot of upload/download activity, and getting a download failed notification trying to download an mms.
The only thing I think I haven't tried is changing the mms user agent, but I'm receiving pictures at 128kb, much bigger than what I would think an unrecognized user agent would receive. But so far most of the mms setup for android has been different than what I've seen before so maybe it'll work.
Also a newer Tmobile sim might fix it too, but I've had it working in other phones. It works flawlessly in windows mobile on the same phone. Again I'm thinking it's a combination of the sim card either the mms user agent of android or some other identification tmobile is getting from my phone showing up as android.
I think that with highlands new RIL, MMS works, you just have to enter the right APN settings.

GSM MMS worked in the original RIL too, I didn't change any of that. The only thing new regarding MMS in my RIL is for CDMA phones.

unlocked Galaxy Nexus on t-mobile USA can't MMS

Purchased a Galaxy Nexus HSPA direct from google. I am using it on T-Mobile USA on a family plan I share with my daughter. The plan has no data but includes unlimited text and MMS. (We get by on wifi for our Internet needs).
The problem I have is that my daughter's MyTouch 4g Slide (locked to T-Mobile) has been sending and receiving MMS fine with mobile data turned off. This has always been the case for 6 months running and it has not been when on wifi. However, my brand new Nexus cannot send or receive MMS with mobile data turned off. The only scenario I have to send and receive MMS is by turning on mobile data prior to sending an MMS or before one is received.
My goal is to have my Nexus send and receive MMS without having to turn on mobile data (like the older MyTouch 4g slide).
Our settings are slightly different, so replicating hers is not exactly possible. Below are the details of our devices. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Ya, I figure I will give going to the store a chance since I can't find the answer anywhere online. However, my situation is slightly different from yours as I do not have a data plan (but do have unlimited MMS in my contract)
I had a similar issue, which I fixed as follows:
Go to the APN settings, hit the menu key and reset to default.
I later found out that having the APN protocol set to ipv6 was an issue, so I got around that by setting up separate APNs with ipv4 for MMS, and ipv6 for data, etc...

I suspect the stock settings send text message via data and wifi connections. To test try sending a text when you are in your wifi area. As you can see, your daughter has 2 different APN setups while you have one for everything.
Me and my wife were in Florida in June and we brought our GSM Galaxy Nexuses with us.
I just walked in a T-Mobile store and purchased two SIMs. We tried one in my phone and it just wouldn't work with data at all... No MMS, no data.
He tried fiddling with APN settings to no avail until I rebooted the phone and then it all just worked and it worked perfectly fine for the next 3.5 weeks that we were there so I can definately say that if they tell you that it won't work because you don't have a T-mobile phone they're incompetent.
So my advice, reset your APN settings and reboot phone then test. If it doesn't work, start comparing APN settings with the other phone you have that works. And always reboot the phone if it doesn't start working immidiately.

I just had this same problem with my Gnex... Restarted the phone and it worked perfectly.

APN settings. Not Receiving MMS

I have been looking everywhere and I can't get a clear answer, or current, on what the newest T-mobile APN settings are.
The one that my phone is using, with my new T-Mobile service, is:
Name: T-Mobile US LTE
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
proxy: not set
port: not set
user: not set
pass: not set
server: not set
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: Not set
MMS Port: not set
MCC: 410
MNC: 260
Auth: none
APN type: default,mms,supl
APN: protocol: IPv6
APN Roaming: IPv4
Bearer: unspecified
MVNO: None
When I get an MMS, it just gives me the option to download the msg, but never actually does.
Anyone have any idea?
Thanks

that is my settings also, now if ur using a different rom, from the N9005.. I get that message and its due to the message size, tmobile has 1mb download and overseas rom has 300mb, so if someone is send a pic that is too big, u won't receive it..
I jump around from different roms, and sometimes I get that when the pic is too big...
but if ur on a tmobile rom, u should not get that message..

Thanks for posting your settings.
So I'm glad I left my straight talk service active. After I left my house's wifi connection and drive one hour to work I found out that not one area within 1 hour of my home gets ANY t-mobile service. All I can connect to is AT&T, and with NO data services, since I'm roaming,
I switched to T-Mobile to take advantage of the Wifi Calling feature on my Note 3 N900T (Factory Unlocked). It works awesome, and is just what I need, since all I can get at my home is Verizon, sadly.
Anyhow, I'm going to give up on T-Mobile and go back to Straight Talk AT&T LTE and just live with not being able to Make or Receive calls on my Cell at home. It would be nice if AT&T would support this feature.
Does anyone know of a good WIFI calling service that integrates into your phone well? Without getting another number assigned to your phone, like most of the services (apps) on Google Play do.
Thanks.
