DCMUGEN Screen Protectors - EVO 4G Accessories

Just noticed that DCMUGEN is making EVO screen protectors. I used to use their products with my iphone and really liked the quality/clarity of them. They are made from Japanese PET material (insert joke about asians eating cats here). I think they are nice alternative to the $12.99ers. I also ordered a Steinheil so I can compare and see if its worth 10x the price. I'll post in a few weeks.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250643856306
I also ordered one of their clear TPU cases (even comes with a free screen protector) i ordered these from a few different places so I'll post when I get them and let you all know the differences: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350369576859
and no I don't work for them, I think they are a little to far from Wisconsin
edit: Received my Steinheil Ultra Clear in the mail today. Great quality! Going to be tough to compete with this, although for the price i'd hope so!
it protects the entire screen including the camera and the buttons. clarity is nice, feels smooth-- not too different then the glass itself.

I used stuff from DCUMUGEN non my TP2 and it was top quality. I beta tested some protectors and he changed the design immediately after my feedback. The next gen ones were perfect.

no cutout for the front cam? could cause some issues later. also i would really prefer a protector that covered the capacitive buttons at the bottom. i think im going to keep looking, probably the seidio one for me.

I have yet to see a protector that had a cut out for the front cam. Why would you want one?

Also i was under the impression that it did cover the buttom butons. Guess ill find out when it gets here.

The Zagg shield I got at Best Buy had the cut out for the camera and covered the bottom buttons, but I didn't like it. While it is true that it would't scratch, it was so sticky that you couldn't slide your finger on it either. It also cost way too much. I ended up just getting the ones from the Sprint store, and even though they don't cover the bottom buttons, I like them much better.

I've got one of these that came with their clear case. Yes it doesn't cover the bottom buttons but it is so smooth that you cannot tell it's there. I really like it and I wasn't even planning on getting a screen protector. I only used this because it came with the case but I was pleasantly surprised.

I've found that screen protectors are not helpful.

I have yet to scratch any glass screen, so i'm not sure why i now feel the need to put one on, especially seeing as i have both sprint and best buy insurance on the phone! I guess I worry about it slightly because I've seen many other phones with scratched screens... Using a case with a lay-on-the-table design is probably good enough for screen protection.

does anyone know where to pick up screen protectors like the Sprint ones that only cover the actual display and none of the black area? I'm sure someone makes them for 99 cents.. i'd like to try them out, but not for the $ sprint is asking.

ebay or amazon will have something.
i havent scratched the evo yet and never scratched my hero at all, definitely want a case that has a lip over the front so I can lay it down on a table face down though. most likely seidio active right now. not sure if i want to spend the extra $10 on the screen protector yet, but maybe.
why a cutout for the camera? a scratch on the screep protector will make the front cam blurry and so will smudges, which there usually are move of on screen protectors.
unless someone makes a knife proof, smudge proof, glare resistance screen protector i think i might just pass though.

personally i'd rather the screen protector get scratched then the front camera! as long as it stays fairly clear, it shouldn't effect the camera. i still have the plastic protector on the back camera that it came with, its got bubbles all over it and its kinda cloudy-- and still the rear camera looks great. so i'm thinking this steinheil wont effect it at all. The front camera quality isn't that important to me anyhow, since I only use it to see myself. i dont think i'll use the front camera too often, except for putting on makeup while i drive

zagg has cutout on camera only because they're not completely clear...pet material is pretty much invisible

Boxwave has cutouts for the camera and sensors. I love their screen protectors. Unless I tell someone it's on, they don't know. Completely smooth and feels just like the actual glass.

Try Clarivue protectors... the best imop.... i've tried them all.

Just received my 5 pack of dc mugen screen protectors in the mail (took 10 days to get to me, including two weekends), and they're pretty decent.
I hadn't noticed in the ebay description that they don't cover the bottom touch buttons, not the biggest deal but would have liked the consistency.
The protectors don't show any image quality loss, or any loss of quality on the camera. They do look and feel very similar to the stock screen.
The cut isn't perfect, there's about 2mm of the width of the phone that the protector doesn't cover (combined between left and right). It's a little bit hard to line up the protector during the application process, I botched the first try but just about nailed it on the second.
Well worth the 3.49 I paid for five of these suckers, but I might try to find a full coverage one to see if I like it any better. I couldn't imagine I would like any other clear screen protectors better than these enough to pay 12-15 for one, hopefully I can find something similar with a fuller cut.

Ordered this screen protector( http://tinyurl.com/24pks3g) on Mon. Hope it comes today since that is when I will be getting this phone. Anybody ever use clearfreak screen protectors before? Any good? I hope it doesn't look orange peely like the zagg on my g1.
just got my clearfreak yesterday but won't have the phone until 7/23
it feels thinner & more flexible than the zagg , and the cutouts are correct for the vibrant where the zagg has the cutouts for the i9000

Thanks for sharing the coupon! I just ordered one. It will probably get here before the phone does
Thanks, I'll be ordering one as well .
I'm thinking of picking one of these up.
I've used a Zagg on my G1 which was nice at first, but became real ugly after a while. I eventually removed it because it looked really gross on the edges.
How does this compare? I plan on only getting the screen cover, don't need the back covered.
Why is it cheaper on ebay? It appears to be the official clearfreak ebay account, but their prices are much better (even with coupon) than their website offers. What gives?
Any reason not to put this on my phone? What I liked about the Zagg was that I could just wipe it down once with my shirt and all the smudges were gone instantly. I also liked the smoother surface for gliding my finger. It seems without the Zagg my G1 screen had too much friction.
I've used lots of different brands of screen protectors and found the Invisible Shield to be my least favorite. They are a good product, I just don't like the texture of them - it's a personal preference.
I'm considering not using a protector on this phone, though. I always used a screen protector in the past, even on my clamshell phones, but the durability videos floating around are pretty impressive. Not sure if it's technically Gorilla Glass, but whatever they use, it seems pretty damned tough.
For those of you with a unit in-hand, how durable does that glass seem?

I got mine yesterday but I am not quite ready to test the durability. Maybe a braver soul can help though.
BTW I am in for one from Clearfreak from eBay.
Also I don't recommend buying the T-Mobile screen protector, it doesn't cover the whole front, which on this phone is just weird.
I'm not sure about durability as I'm not willing to do any crazy test, but it's going to be hard going with a screen protector b/c the screen is just so nice to use.
That glass really does a nice job with fingerprints. Obviously they're still there, but the glass seems to reduce the effect and they aren't noticeable at all when you're using the phone.
I hear that most screen protectors make fingerprints more noticeable and aren't nearly as smooth.
yet but no matter how hard the glass, it will show degradation from windborne sand, grit etc, or grit/sand in your pocket, salt on your fingers etc
i've got watches with hardened sapphire crystals that i have to polish occasionlly with diamond grinding compound (same stuff used on optical lenses) cause the surface shows microscopic pitting, scratches etc
I've only every used clarivue protectors in the past. I liked them and I will probably post from them when available. Not sure how it will work with swype though.

hey when you get your clearfreaks on your vibrants, can you post how you feel about them. Im lookin for a protector for the captivate and am nitpicky about image quality and touch sensitivity.
I bought the T-Mobile screen protector and I'm not happy at all. It gives the screen a grainy look. I just ordered the Clearfreak one. Its $5.99 on Ebay sold by them.

From looking at the eBay pic the ClearFreak doesn't have cutouts for the front facing camera. I checked the Zagg site and their's does.

There isn't a Front Facing camera for the Vibrant. The one on Zagg is a cutout for the i9000.
Ok I just installed the clearfreak screen protector, followed the directions on their video and and it came out alright I guess, not perfect though. I'm sure it will take some time too set in , but I can see some fingerprints even though I had them wet the whole time. hopefully it improves. When the phone is lit up you can't see any of the flaws and swiping through screens is flawless and very responsive.
I have include two pics, mind you these were take within 30 min. of installing it.

Update: After a few hours it has settled in quite nicely. The finger prints that I thought were there initially are now gone and is super smooth almost too where I forget its even there. Good buy!
the martin fields video had a nice tip for handling the screen protector without getting fignerprints on the sticky side
check the video on their website, but it was a simple idea - using two pcs of scotch tape on either side with half of of the tape not on the protector - gives the user a small "handle" area to use to hold the screen while trying to position it correctly on the phone
just a suggestion

I go to walmart get 3-4 sheets for about 8.00 and cut them to size, they work great.

Trying to find a particular screen cover.

My protector had a slight 'scratch' on it, and in my annoyance, I went to replace it with one of the two remaining in my VZW/HTC pack (luckily not on the real screen though.) Crap managed to slip between the screen & protector on number 2, and number 3 had residue on the screen side, even though the dual-cover was still on it correctly.
I dropped by VZW to buy more, but instead of getting whichever version I had before, the rep gave me some anti-glare ones in the same packaging. I hate them. Every pixel looks like it's shining through frosted glass, and it's ruining my movie/tv experience.
Catch is, I never wrote down the type of protector I had before (it was glossy and easily reflected light,) but didn't degrade the image while using the display. Does somebody know the type offhand?
Or, even better, can anyone recommend a better protector if one exists? $16 for 3 tiny sheets of clear plastic seems like highway robbery.
I've always used the cheap generic ones on eBay that come from Hong Kong after having a surprisingly good one on my PSP.
Though you run the slight chance of running into a seller that has the low quality screen protectors (I've had a coworker that received some that had light scratches immediately, as you're running your fingers across it), it's still a relatively cheap gamble (less than $5).
The good ones are scratch-resistant, do not take away any quality from the screen, and are barely noticeable. The only downside, they pick up fingerprint oils VERY easily. If that bothers you, have a microfiber cloth with you. IMO they are on par with the Steinheils.
I bought mine before the Thunderbolt's release (to prepare for its arrival!) for $3.80 for 6x screen protectors. They're still within the same price range.

Those are the best screen protectors I've ever used. I have the ultra clear one and I can't tell that it's there. And it's super smooth!
It does get pretty fingerprinty though and I've heard good things about their "anti-fingerprint" line. It's worth a look if you care about that kind of stuff.

The anti-fingerprint ones are matte. They have that frosted look. Personally, I prefer ghost armor or ZAGG over the stienheils. It's because I like wet application though so I don't get crap stuck between the screen and the screen protector.

Use that link and order the ultra fine screen protector. It's the yellow one and is anti-fingerprint. The way these screen protectors feel are fantastic. They're super smooth and glide very easily. Comparatively speaking, the zagg shields IMO are sticky. I also feel weird getting my phone wet to put on a screen protector. Just me though....

Atrix screen protector

I've been considering getting a screen protector for a while now. The problem I have is my hands sweat very badly (gross I know) and then the touch screen on my phone goes crazy from the water on the screen. I have never had this problem with any phone I've had before now. I think it is because the Atrix touch screen is more sensitive than any other phone I've had. I was wondering if a screen protector would fix this problem and what some good brands were to try. Thanks
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
You should always have a screen protector on any smart device you care about. One grain of sand in your pocket can ruin your screen (and your day). That said....
A screen protector will likely NOT fix your problem, as water (sweat) registers as a capacative touch. For a screen protector to "fix" the registration of sweat, it would have to also "fix" the registration of a desired capacitive touch (finger, stylus, or otherwise).
The only manner in which a screen protector could help is if you could find a very hydrophobic one (the repells and beads water), though you would still need to soak up that water with your shirt or a handkerchief or something. I'm not sure they even sell these. Google is your friend, here. Use keywords hydrophobic and/or water-repellent. Good luck, my friend, and let us know if you find anything interesting!

I tried few of a kind and decided to go with Otterbox Defender case which has a transparent front panel.
Refurbished case is about $20-25 and as good as a new one.
No need for screen protector. No mess with applying one...
What if I put on an average screen protector and then sprayed it with some form of water repellent?

Water repellent spray wouldn't work because the screen protectors are vinyl or polyurethane and are not absorbent. Those hydrophobic sprays only work with an absorbent material like cloth or real leather.

I have to disagree with the statement that you have to have a screen protector, we have gorilla glass! I have never had a protector and my screen looks great! As for this situation, a protector that has a little rubberized feel might work well. I would read reviews on Amazon and buy the one that people complain the most about it sticking!

FWIW, my wife has been w/o a screen protector since April and I've been with / without one on and off since June.
Still not a single scratch on either phone, however, without one the screen is too smooth, so I'm thinking of going back installing one.
Hope this helps...
I went without a screen protector for a few months. I took the phone outside and noticed TONS of very fine scratches. You could only see them in direct sunlight, but it bothered me enough that I got a screen protector shortly thereafter.
I was thinking to buy a Vikuiti ADQC27. Has anyone tried it?
Thanks
I have to second the rec for the Otterbox Defender case. Having the screen protector built in is pretty awesome and in my experience, it has withstood all kind of liquidy stuff on it and plenty of goopy stuff as well. Like those technical terms?
It hasn't hampered my touch screen through various roms with various sensitivities and my glowing review hasn't even hit all the protection benefits it gives.
Best part? I got mine for about $10 'used' on ebay and while the silicone part was a little loose, a quick email to Otterbox got me a free placement in the mail without any hassle.
I haven't used one myself, but if they make one for the Atrix and if it's what you are really looking for, Zagg stuff has made some of my friends really happy.
You should look into a Matte one where is almost smudge free
altho it looks slightly foggy and scratch easily, but its worth it
make sure u get like a few togehter on ebay so you have backup ones

Can you suggest any brand? Something like the GreatShield Ultra Anti-Glare (Matte)?
I have one on mine, steinheil (SGP), while the protector gets scratched its better than the screen getting scratched.
Can't really tell the SGP ultra crystal protector is on the screen either, other than the few scratches that are on the protector now. Comes with 2 in a package if you get them.
They have an oleophobic one that is suppose to be oil resistant, maybe that one might be ideal? The ultra fine is their matted one.
If you look at the product on their webpage the 'Select a Color' changes the type of protector they have (took me a min to find the different versions they had when I looked again).
Last while the corning glass is tough, with a vickers hardness of 622kgf/mm2 in the unstrengthened and 701 in the strengthened stuff is pretty impressive.
Spec sheet for the glass can be found from corning's site using a google search, made me curious to check it.
While pretty hard something as simple and common as sand can scratch it which has a vickers hardness of about 1000....
Keys, lighters and the like are unlikely to scratch it though as unless its hardened tool steel its hardness will likely be below 650, an edge on a tungsten ring could probably do the trick though.
Anyhow I keep one on my phone, though maybe not really necessary I'd rather have a scratched screen protector than see the glass get scratched.

Zagg and Skinomi are quite nice. I like the Skinomi on my tablet maybe even a bit better than the Zagg on the Atrix, but the difference is very minimal. I'd say the Skinomi may slide slightly better than the Zagg, but you're splitting hairs.
I agree with BeakHill. SGP is great except they scratch easier than Zagg. The Ultra crystal is so clear that they don't even have a cut out for the front camera. The Ultra fine is their matte model and it is good and smooth, the crystal is nicer IMO..
The problem with SGP is they spoil you to the other brands, and they are more expensive.

Realook screen protector.

Waste of my damn money. Seriously, what a waste of $12 bucks.
Not only is the top slightly peeling near the earpiece, the side is also slightly coming up. I've put on plenty of screen protectors before without a problem, and this is by far the worst one. Hell, the free one that came with my Diztronic / TPU case was better than this.
Just to add, I ended up throwing the first one away because the top wouldn't stick at all.
Same here. I bought them on Amazon and ended up throwing both away. First one was a mess, and the second one looked like **** at the top.

That's... Really weird. I've used TONS of screen protectors, and I'm super anal about them (I work in a lab, and I'll usually use the hood to keep hair and particles off while I apply the screen protectors) and I usually go through 5 or 6 protectors before I get one on with absolutely NO hairs or bubbles, but the realook ones worked fantastically for me the first time! I've had mine on for almost a month and it's still perfect, no peeling or bubbles. Plus, I love that it came with a camera lens protector too. I guess I got lucky =)

I've read somewhere that SGP also makes another kind of screen protector called Steinheil, which is supposedly the best protector out there, but currently there is none for the Nitro/Opt.LTE. However, the Incredible Shield uses Steinheil engineering. I would go with SGP for over the others.
Be careful though. The first two you posted look like they're for the Optimus lte which is NOT exactly the same shape as the Nitro (for one thing, there's a big hardware home button cut out in the middle of the bottom of the screen, but also the screen shapes are not exactly the same, which may lead to edges not precisely fitting). The same goes for cases designed for the Optimus lte, which really is a slightly different shape. If they say they're for the Nitro, but there's an antenna hole, clearly they were originally designed for the Optimus lte, which is why they may not fit EXACTLY right (as one reviewer here, I think bmxant, mentioned in the SGP case review- a little bit of looseness/give on the sides)
Clarification: the SU640 Optimus lte looks like it might be the same shape as the p930 nitro, but even still, the form of the battery cover is different (the curvature of the plastic around the camera metal is different between the two). The LU6200 Optimus lte is just completely different, with a blockier shape and the hardware home button. Pick accessories carefully! =)
I've been using Realook for every phone i got. This one is perfect just like all the other ones i've used. No problem here.
Lol!! N here I thought that all optimus LTE phones are physically the same I thought those were just the wrong images for the phones. Thanks for clarifying itis
So yeah, like itis mentioned, I guess be careful with whatvu r getting. If possible email the seller first I guess.

I actually got a reply from Realook.
"Hi Anthony,
Sorry to hear about the Nitro films edges not sticking. Our #1 goal is customer satisfaction and we want to ensure that with you.
We would like to send you a courtesy screen protector to try again."
Pretty awesome! That's really nice of them to do that.
I'm sure they don't want to lose business either, but still.....

lol oh they have too if they value their customer, n if they value their business, then this one better work
I currently have it on my screen and I like it a lot. I only use PET film screen protectors. I bought some PET protectors for this phone from another brand, but they have a slot cut out for the front cam and proxy sensor. I think that partially defeats the purpose. If that glass on the cam is damaged it will seriously limit the front cam usability.

Btw guys, since this is practically a review on the realook screen protector, why not post some pics of how the screen protector looks on the phone and some other pics like packaging it came in, and how it looks with the screen on, etc.
If done right you actually can't notice it on the phone, not even to the touch. I don't have any air bubbles, but I do have a spec of dust that got under mine. I bought some other PET protectors for this phone on ebay, but I haven't changed it out, because the others don't cover the front cam and proxy sensor.
The only thing you will notice with the Realook protector is that on the sides... It doesn't completely cover the glass part, but it will cover all of the screen, capacitive buttons and the front cam / proxy sensor. If you've never purchased a PET protector before you're in for a treat. Once applied, your finger glides across it just as smooth as glass. Way different from a matte screen protector or an invisible shield.
I definitely don't like the ZAGG invisible shield. It looks like orange peel and shows every finger nail indention and everything.
As for the Realook not covering to the edges of the screen... that sucks.
The brand I always used on my iphone was Cygnett. They don't make anything for this phone though. Actually, I'm not sure if they make anything other than iphone protectors. I'm going to look into it because it was a perfect screen protector. Anti glare, anti fingerprint, and lasted forever.
I think it doesn't cover all of the glass because the sides curve down a little bit. That's right about where it stops too. Of course those curved down areas are not immune to scratches, but atleast it won't be on the viewable part.
I've wondered about screen protectors on the Nitro because of the curve around the edges. I would imagine it would be possible to cover still. No?
It will cover everything vital. Only the part curving down is not covered. You'd probably need an invisible shield to cover those curved parts.

Tempered Armor Glass Screen Protector

Tempered Armor just launched their Galaxy S3 tempered glass screen protector December 2nd. Saw a review video for their Note 3 protector and absolutely loved it (Link if curious: http://youtu.be/Qzhst5jrBtI). I picked it up the same day it released.
It came in two days ago and of course I install it immediately. At first, I thought great, the adhesive is doing it's thing. Then, once I took the blue plastic cover off, the disappointment set it. At a nearly uniform distance completely around the protector, the adhesive doesn't stick. I had used their packaged microfiber and their packaged isopropyl wipes for the install. Thought cool, maybe it will take a few days. And fast forward to today, it still looks the same.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I love how it feels; I've always hated those crappy plastic protectors.
I reached out to Tempered Armor via Twitter and got no help other than them claiming it was user error and/ or the alignment is off. I sent them a Dropbox link with pictures of the alignment and they came back with the protector won't work if it is "off a hair".
Here's our Twitter conversation: https://twitter.com/temperedarmor/status/413801200866574336

So if you are thinking about ordering one, make sure you have a micron microscope to get it aligned correctly.
Meh,
I have had similar problems with SProtectors. I do believe that the glass on most S3's have a slight curve at the outer edge.

Whenever I press down on the outside edge, it feels like the glass protector doesn't even try to stick. I feel like the adhesive wasn't properly applied to the protector before shipping.
What really got me was when customer support mentioned if it was "off a hair" it wouldn't sit right. How are you going to sell a screen protector that has a fault tolerance in alignment of a width of a hair?
Typical lack of customer service or care. This why I try to support companies like, Anker, zero lemon, Amazon. They actually care about quality and their customers. As info,
We have 3 galaxy S3 in my home and all have a slight curve downward at the edges.

I love tempered glass screen protectors. But why spend that much money on that one. I got mine off Ebay and they look way better than the one posted in the OP. The one I have sticks all the way around.
here's an example of one... (not sure which seller I bought from. it's been a several weeks since I ordered.)

I knew of the owner of the company from my days as an iPhone modder. Thought he would be a bit more "in touch" with the community and more helpful than "nope, you broke it. lalalalala can't hear you".

Hi..
I would like to buy one, but 0.4 ones seems to thick as they seem to raise screen level above some cases lips..
Do you have slimmer one or is that one ok ?

The one I have is .3, so just a bit thinner. on all of the cases I have used, it doesn't interfere with the case. I have used it with the Otterbox Commuter case and it looks fine. Right now, I'm using it with a rubber/plastic case that I found at Walgreen's of all places. There is usually a small gap between the edge of the screen protector and the case. I'll see if I can get a picture up
EDIT
Here's mine with a case and the glass screen on it (sorry pic quality is bad, taken with an Ipad, of course)

Thanks for pic..i will definitely look for a glass thinner than 0.4..
Whenever i put a screen protector on my s3 the touch screen glitches, key presses al over the screen like whenever i press the app drawer it opens my notification bar, whenever i type something it scrolls up,so does that have anything to do with the quality of the screen protector?
