There is methods to root the evo
Unrevoked is where you need to go for that.. All cameras work on CM Build just no 4G or HDMI.
I just got a new EVO with the new hboot 2.02 and I was able to easily root with with the directions from this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045.
I chose to go with Myn's twopoint ROM and love it. Plus the 4g and hdmi work (unlike CM's current release).
The only things that don't work with CM are 4g and HDMI.
I was also a CM fan until I discovered Myn. There are lots of great ROMS for Evos, but CM and Myn's seem to have the most users (at least active ones) and Myn's tends to have the best satisfaction based on users.
CM is a developers playground while Myn is more user-friendly with its customization. Either way you can't go wrong with this phone

I Recently got a new Evo because my old one needed replaced and by being brand new I don't have the PC36IMG for it. I left the store and rooted right away. I didn't even think about creating a NAND back up before i rooted it. If anyone has one or know where one is, please post it!

I needed to get my Front facing camera fixed (they attempted two weeks ago and failed) and they didn't want to fix it right there again, so i just asked if i could get a whole new Evo. After some talking i just said send me a new one, so I paid the $35 (because i don't have insurance), the guy started to order a new then the manager walked up and saw what was going on and just brought me up a new one! If your having issues with yours (hardware related) then take it in and just ask for em to order one for ya, it only takes a couple of days.
But you with the insurance if you cracked the screen or something they could get ya a new one. Though i don't suggest purposely breaking it...

If you have the insurance get a car battery and a couple of wires and plug it up to the electrodes on the phone. It will smoke and cry and then die a very permanent death. Works if you were rooted and you want to make sure they dont give you grief about the root too. Pull the card out before your do.
if it breaks/frys etc, do i have to give them the old one?

yes but if you unrooted before you kind of break it you will be fine, or just fry it and you will be safe from them finding out you rooted. Im not sure if the warranty covers water damage...you could look into that.
well i recently received a refubed evo 4g with 2.3. my question is, can the techs at sprint downgrade my evo back to 2.2 or to a lower hboot ?
They may downgrade you to 2.2 if you complain about gingerbread..but if you ask about downgrading the hboot, I think it'll tip them off you're trying to root it / had it rooted before.
ok cool, funny thing is the techs at my sprint store have all there phone rooted LOL
call asurion and tell them the screen and battery is overheating and that you want a brand new evo and not a refurb, they will send it to you no charge.

They may or may not do that, but the new one could have GB on it too. So no point.
Right now they can't do it, unless Sprint/HTC give them a tool to do so. If they were to do so, it'd probably leak here pretty quick. My understanding is that they have the same RUU we do, which was specifically coded not to allow downgrading. That's no accident, by the way...they plugged the old root holes and didn't want to let people downgrade and root.

The only good that will really come of that is the source, so they can start making custom kernels for GB, like synergy, kingdom, ect; but yes, bring on the root.

No, that's how long they are supposed to have to release the kernel source code to comply with GPL.
As far as unlocking bootloaders, HTC said they were changing their policy, but haven't made commitments to how soon it will happen or how whether it'll apply to current devices.
I'm also not totally convinced that the carriers won't try and succeed in vetoing this new policy. Granted, they've allowed the Nexus, but they haven't promoted that device either. Hopefully they will get the message though and not stand in the way.
if a sprint store can downgrade a phone. why can't we do it as easily? I want to know exactly how they do it so we can spread the word. :-D

Seconded. The only way to rollback 2.3 is to remove the chips and force flash them via a programmer. I have done this ONCE just to see if it could be done. To be honest, no customer would ever pay the cost of having it done and even if they would I can't tie up the service center that long for one customer.
Hey All,
Long-time lurker, first-time post. Previous smartphones were Nexus devices (Sprint Nexus S, VZW Galaxy Nexus), so I never really needed to post. Everything was all there to tinker with.
I got the VZW HTC One a day or two after the HTCDev unlock was blocked, so I am stock, locked, and non-rooted. Quite an adjustment going from crack-flasher to locked-down, but I digress.
I was browsing around and noticed that an OTA was being pushed out, updating from 1.10.605.8 to 1.10.605.10. Having seen some others screwed by OTA updates, I know better than to even try to check for one, let alone accept installation. That, however, is where it gets interesting for me. I noticed that I am running 1.10.605.2. I haven't seen anything via Google searches, nor have I seen anything else on XDA regarding this build version.
So, on to my question: Can I be of any help with this build version that I can find no other mention of elsewhere? I work all day and have a wife and son at home, so I'm not on much, but I do check the forums in the mornings and evenings. If there's anything I can provide from my device that could be of help to someone, let me know, and I will do everything I can to provide it.
If you can, screenshot the software number in the About Device section.

So now the question is, can this be useful in the exploit/unlock hunt, or is it just a fluke with currently unknown repercussions? Since my HBOOT is the same, I'm leaning towards fluke.

Unfortunately I don't think it is useful unless it had a lower hboot or something, we can't downgrade, and whatever exploit that may have been in that software may have been patched before release and took longer to release who knows.
I've loved my HTC One, but I lost mine and went to purchase a replacement. I got one off eBay, but the microphone does not work and it is not worth repairing. Currently in the process of trying to work through Buyer Protection due to the inactive status of the seller.
What other options for phones are there currently with Verizon where S-Off is achieved? Is there a list? I don't mind paying for S-Off, like Sunshine etc. I just don't think I can ever go back to having a stock phone or locked bootloader. I'm too flash-happy in my addiction thanks to you all.

The phone you bought. Is it already s off. There was an issue where running kit Kat or newer with old firmware caused the mic to stop working. It is possible you need to do some firmware updating.
It seemed stock when I first got it. I bought Sunshine and got S-Off. I then upgraded the firmware, and flashed Viper 7.0.2 and then Liquid Smooth. Is there a specific firmware that I should look for, or a specific sequence I should do?
Thanks

Yeah, the other day I jumped on an order with Best Buy for a blue M7 for $150. However, today they canceled my order saying that they no longer have them in stock. They don't expect to have any replacements since it is discontinued, and I'm out of luck. Hopefully other retailers will have them for that price soon.
The DNA, if you can find one can be S-off with Sunshine. It has near similar internals as the M7, minus the slightly higher clock speed, the UP camera (DNA has 16 MP), and the front speakers. If not the DNA, the only other alternative for HTC land is the M8.
