I have a question about the goldcard required for rooting. I successfully rooted and installed Pays-rom.
My question is: do I have to always use the goldcard now or can i just use a different SD card (i am not using a2sd)? If I need to have a goldcard in the phone at all times, can I just create a new one without re-rooting the phone?
Thanks
you can use any SD card in your phone now, but when you want to flash to a new ROM you will need to use the Goldcard
and you can make a new Goldcard whenever you want
Thank you! What about pushing individual apk's from rom zip files? I am trying to adb push "HTC Footprints" (i like it for some reason) but it says that system is read-only ... maybe for that i need the goldcard too?
Maybe,,, you can always put the .apk on your SD and install through Astro File manager
Uhm, that's strange - I tried installing through ES Explorer, it tries to install but just gives me "Application not installed"... I took the .apk from rootedupdate.zip ...
Might depend on what ROM your running
I tried the install comment but got this ... i guess it's not compatible with that ROM ...
C:\AndroidSDK\android-sdk-windows\tools>adb install -l HtcFootprints.apk
1175 KB/s (1224976 bytes in 1.018s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/HtcFootprints.apk

Every time i try to flash a rom i get a error that says

Using Amon Ra recovery. Wiped everything and partitioned sd card.
Thanks for any help
Sounds like the update package is not signed with valid keys. Is your phone rooted ?

check your zip. If you zip a file two folders deep it will give the same error. open your zip and see if you see your files or another folder.
yeah when i unzip it, the first folder i see is the name of the rom "fresh" then when i open it, I see; boot image file, data folder, META-INF folder, sdcard folder, and system folder.
Well update script is in META-INF\com\google\android but if your zip file is not signed then it can't be flasshed that is why you get upgrade script not found.
How do i do that????? And walk me through what "signed" means
And im using a macbook pro if that helps any
Thanks a ton
Well did unziped the zip folder ? Did you make any changes to the installation zip ?
Now what rom are you running. So you have root ? When you use connectbot and type su deo you see #? It could be that your phone is not ruter and does not have proper recovery installed since we can't sign rom with the same keys that developers at sprint use we have to root the phone and allow it to accept custom rom.
all i did was download the fresh rom from the forum onto my computer, compressed it (zipped it) then rebooted my phone into recovery, wiped everything i needed to, enabled the usb, moved the zip over to the phone, disabled the usb and then went to flash zip, found the zipped fresh rom and tried to flash it.
Im running my stock rom that came with the phone.
If you running this on mac the os x will unzip ypur file and put the download file in trash so use zip file from trash. Now You need to use simple root to root and install proper recovery on your phone then you will be able to install custom rom .
Awesome! found the zip file in the trash like you said, transfered that over and it worked! thank you thank you thank you!
I have an htc desire rooted and have a 4gb sd card.
i put the .apk file in the sd card and access it with file explorer in the mobile.
how can i install the .apk file directly to sd card instead of installing it in the mobile storage?
thanks
I don't think it's possible, but what you can do is install it normally and and then use Application Manager to move it to SD. (Apps to SD or a2sd)
Perhaps you already know this so sorry if i'm preaching to the quior!
Of course the ROM has to support this as well as the App. If i remember correctly i think this was supported officially from 2.2 onward. (Froyo). Custom ROMs, especially Cyanogenmods, usually have this feature working out of the box.
so is there anyway of doing it up to today?
Of course. It's called a2sd.

Hi here an odd way by the way:
as far as I know in the mixui10ml (as a custom rom 4 xperia ray search 4 it)there is such ability but u should unzip it and find and test apk files and install them to find out which one do such thing
I personally do other work ... copy all apk file in to my new downloaded custom rom and replace them and it works great!
and i should that point this apk isnt like apk2sd & other silly apk... it added in to system as a property and automatically run whenever an apk install.
its the only *(hard but real) way* that i find by searching in 2 years!!! sorry 4 my poor EN just want to help!
at last I find the name of that apk!!: "package installer.apk"!
I mean, I have this file on my SD card from when I rooted (downgrading from 1.72)
If I flash this ROM, it will just flash stock 1.34 (which I'm running at the moment) right?
I think I left it on my SD card as "backup" because it can be installed from the bootloader, but now I'm wondering whether this is necessary, and whether I can delete it
Cheers
Edit: Also, I have some other files backed up, not sure if I need them
part7backup
part17backup
su
superuser.apk
make a backup dir on sdcard and move the zip file into this dir.

Yes that is going to be a stock rom, no root.
As for the other files the part files you should copy to your PC the su and superuser files are not needed as long as you only flash roms that are pre-rooted.

Copy these two to your computer, as (I think?) one of them is a backup of the /misc partition before running gfree to S-OFF, not sure about the other though
Thanks for the replies
So I should keep the part backup files on my computer, and if I keep that ROM on there, that should mean that if I mess up and can't get to recovery, as long as I can get to the default bootloader, I can flash it from there, right?
okay guys this is my first android phone, first time rooting, first time for all of it basically.
i have a galaxy s3 i747m that i managed to root already. now i downloaded a ROM that i want and using android file exchange( I AM ON A MAC MAYBE MY PROBLEM?)
so i found the file on my mac, opended file exchange, put the file on my SD card.
now when i go into ROM manager i go to "install ROM from SD card" but it shows me everything thats on my phone not my SD card....i looked everywhere but the file is not there and i cant figure out why its doing this.
so i thought maybe if i save it to my phone i can find it,so i did that and i found the ROM file, but now when i open the file it just shows me
META-INF/ and system/ but on my computer it shows me something called BOOT.IMG.
im guessing this is the part of the file i need since nothing else works?
let me know guys im stuck, and sorry for the long post.
thanks guys!

DON'T touch this boot.img you taklking about.
Can you cannect phone by USB to your mac? ( sorry i'm PC guy). If you do just go open your phone with explorer in you mac then create folder on SD card "ROMS" in example , copy downloaded rom from your mac to phone this way you will know where it is. Now if you did not install CWM (clockwork mod recovery) install one from Rom Manager and reboot in it. Choose install from card and find roms folder you created and rom you copied in to folder choose this rom. Now follow instruction.
BTW. Before you start flashing roms READ more anthill you sure you know how is done for 100%. There are so many info how this should be done. READ this first :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725839 Twice if you have to.
Good luck
Hey guys, i like to root my new iNew U3 with android 5.1
So i used several programs like Kingroot, oneclickroot aso. but no apk works.
May the device is simple not to root atm?
Thanks Brook
I have tested all available root apps, no success.
I have Readbacked boot, recovery and system images, boot and recovery have special format, not possible to unpack and repack by available tools, mainly repack is problem. System is native EXT4 mountable under linux, injected by supersu files and modifications, but because of SELinux files are not available to exec under running android. I am not able to set right files contexts under Ubuntu.
I will let you know if find solution.
Hi guys, I bought this phone ( Inew U3 ) on Ebay .
The phone is not so bed!! But I can't move any app on the microSD !!!!!!
In any case app can move on SD, It is that the main memory is set to the phone, whether the main memory is set to SD !!!!!
Even with third-party app, type Link2SD you can move apps to the SD, are always on the phone memory !!!
Also you can not do root in any way !!
Solutions?
OK, found way how to root this phone.
Method is "simple":
First OTA update to version iNew_U3_5.1_V1.1.0, not sure if root survive OTA. Do factory reset.
Use SP Flash Tool to backup system.img,
mount is under linux to /system folder as ext4, it is pure ext4.
Unpack latest UPDATE-Supersu package.
Open file update-binary file as text, do all as in instructions.
Umount /system folder after finished.
Flash system.img back to phone.
If not shown reinstall SuperSU app from Playstore.
I will share modified system.img with scatter on needrom later tomorrow.
EDIT: Dwnload link: http://www.needrom.com/download/inew-u3-prerooted-system-img/#
I tried it, but it didnt work.
Everytime i extract the Zip i get a failure, that the file is corrupt?
Is there any other way?
