probably a silly question to most folk, but...
say i'm writing a text message and i get a spelling mistake, but i'm a good few words past the word, is there a way to change the wrong letter?, like on my PC i'd just use the arrow keys to go back and change it.
i seem to have to delete all the text to get back to the spelling mistake.
sorry for such a newbie question
Use the optical trackpad, it acts as arrow keys pretty much.
Tapping close to it if your far along in the message then scrolling with the track pedal seems the best idea, Unless your really precise with your finger

+1 for the above, tap near on on the letter to change it
thanks guys, much appreciated

Is there any way to make the on-screen keyboard enter the key I click first, as opposed to what key I am over when I take the stylus off the screen.
For example, if I use the Full QWERTY keyboard and press the E button, but drag my stylus over the R key and take my stylus off it enters R, not E. When I'm typing a message fast this can be a problem with keys at the side of the keyboard as I regularly enter S instead of A and B,N or M instead of a space. Does anyone know of a registry edit or some other way of stopping this from happening? Many thanks in advance!
Sorry, have entered this in the wrong forum! Meant to put it in the generic BlackStone one!
Dude,
That's a feature!
Most people prefer to be able to drag to another key, knowing they pressed the wrong one in the first place. It's kinda natural as our thumbs are bigger than most keyboard keys.
You haven't mentioned which keyboard you're using ? (As you're new... It's also known as a 'SIP'. Try seeking your answer using the search facility in this forum. You may have more luck outside the Blackstone forums)
If you want to just 'point n' shoot' without the drag option, then you could try reverting back to the plain-ole Windows supplied Keyboard (though I haven't tested this).
Seems like a step backwards though...
Cheers
Yup, choose "keyboard" that's the Windows standard keyboard (almost feature-free).
Firstly, cheers for your replies! I will have a look to see if I can disable the feature on the keyboard as I much prefer the Blackstone's Full QWERTY keyboard as it means I can use my thumbs when on the go, and the stylus when at a desk. The plain windows one isn't really what I'm after. Many thanks people!
Does anyone know how to get the thing the Droid X uses to get pick the spot you specifically want to be at when you text/type?
what????
you need to explain a little further. i am not a droid x guy, obviously but there is nothing any phone can do to predictt where you really meant to type aside from just the text prediction within the keyboard app itself.
whats wrong cant you type?
I keep telling my phone that I specifically want to be on a beach in Hawaii when I Type, but sure as hell, when I look up from my phone, I am still in Chicago.....
Not sure I fully know what you mean. If I need to add text to a message, I just tap the screen where I want to add the text. If I am a little off, I just use the arrow keys to get the cursor where I want it. If you are using Swype, Slide your finger from the swype key to the symbol key to bring up the arrows.
Are you talking about how to specifically go to a place between the text in a message? Sort of like the iPhone does when you long press on where you're typing and this magnification circle comes up? Haha this is pretty hard to explain.

Sorry about the delay guys... But that ^^^ is what I'm looking for! Dolphin HD does it... HTC browser does it, but the place I want it the most (text messages) doesn't! Anyone know any options? All I know is the droid x has this red thing that makes arrow keys and trackballs pointless, and I want that feature on my EVO!
Just tap the spot on the screen where you want to cursor to go. Or, swype from the top left key with the swype symbol, down past shift all way to the SYM key. The menu with the arrows will appear.
Doesn't htc input have the arrow keys, that's why its there

I do have to agree on this. Cursor arrows on keyboards are a joke most of the time. The one that swype has is nice, but if i had the magnifying glass like on Dolphin Browser I would never need the cursors. The cursors on the original HTC keyboard are a joke.
+1 I would love to see this on the EVO.
Hi all,
I love my phone but I've come across an annoyance that I would like to fix. My thumbs are retarded and I constantly hit the period key instead of the spacebar. Does anybody know of any other keyboard or a way to adjust the size of individual keys? I'd like to make the spacebar wider and period key smaller, or get rid of the voice button and move the period key to the otherside of the spacebar. And yes, I have tried to adjust the way I type with it and re-calibrate the screen as well.
Thanks in advance.
I had the same problem. You can change keyboards. I'm currently using the Droid2 multitouch and I'm pretty happy with it once I got used to it. I think you'll probably need to be rooted but I'm not sure on that. Just look around and find other keyboards that are ported to the Incredible.

I have noticed something very annoying to me. With some versions of swype you can click back in the middle of a word you previously typed, and it would automatically jump to the end of the word so you could either select a suggested alternative, or hold backspace to delete the word. Other versions, when you click back in the middle of the word, it stays there, in the exact spot you tapped. I hate that.
Is there a way to make swype forward the cursor to the end of the word? Or do I need to use military precision with my tapped selection.
I have this issue too. Also I would like to be able to get rid of that language key. It's useless and a ware of space. Who is swapping between languages so frequently that they need a dedicated button for it which causes the other 99 percent of people using the keyboard to accidentally press it and screw up their predictions.

Both of these are problems I'm having that annoy me
But I believe the moving of the button thingy to the end of the word is just a characteristic of the new version of swype so that's not really an "issue" or "bug" its just there
And that language button wasn't a mistake either lol but it would b nice to chance it or like increase the size of the space button or something

lol, that language key messed w/ my head for a little bit last night as I accidentally pressed it w/o knowing that I did ("WTH, I have to add 'over' to my dictionary??).
And didn't we have the option to cancel a word (say a mistype) in the previous version before it was printed, where now you have to delete your mistakes every time? Seems that I am deleting a lot more than I used to...
:\

I actually thought this was rom-based at first, but now I'm not sure. I'm on EI22 with a recent Swype in my custom rom, and there's no automatic moving.

I held the language key and it gave me the option to choose one language. Now if I accidentally hit it, it doesn't do anything.
Ok so an alternative to the cursor jumping to the front of the word, albeit, a less efficient one, but none-the-less; you can double tap a word and it will be highlighted, then you can just re-swype the word and it will replace the highlighted one.
It'll have to do for now until they ever change it back. Oh well.
And yea like Randomking said, just go to the languages and uncheck all of them except english. That should cause the button to do nothing as well. So there's 2 ways to get around that one.
s-pen and handwriting recognition is quite cool, but how do you set it up to automatically put spaces in between words you write? I'm sure it must be an option but I can't seem to find it, and writing by hand is slower than just typing with thumbs if you have to keep hitting the space bar manually.

I'm a little perplexed at how difficult it is to find tutorials about the s-pen considering how popular reports claim this phone is. Are users simply enjoying a big phone and not exploiting the s-pen????
If im not mistaken this happens by default. Ive noticed if you just put a large enough space between the words or write one word underneath the other it will create a space. Hope this helps.

I still have missed out on a lot of neat options. I have developed a few habits, like whipping it out to take a quick note or something, but I still hit the buttons with my fingers instead of using the shortcuts. I am still unsure how the gestures work under the s-pen menu in the settings. Do I have to click the button? Does it only work in certain places? I don't get it, I tried to use the default ones to no avail, nor do custom ones work. I think it's because I use a different launcher actually, I forgot I already thought of that :x. Eh.
Like knarfies said, if you put a decent amount of space in-between the words it will automatically create the space. I also like writing at the top and just come down below the first word and it creates the space for me that way.
Also you can do a backwards L to do enter. You can do a quick swipe to the right to enter a space. You can do - by going back and forth to make it. You can also hold down the spen button and swipe left on the word or letters you want to erase.
I really got the hang of writing with it. One thing that does irk me though. It has problems with words having letters and numbers. I write down a car VIN and I have to do a delay in-between letters and numbers. Otherwise it just becomes a mess and VIN numbers need to be 100% correct when doing customer invoices.
If you are rooted, you can install the MyScript Notes app. It has much better HWR, converting your writing to text after you write a string of words, adding spaces automatically.
The app can be found in the apps section, look for a thread by cajunflavoredbob.

anyone know how to remove spen without unlocking the phone on lockscreen
Yeah this phone is great even without the S-Pen, and the things I do use the S-Pen for, don't really need a tutorial (more accurate selecting, drawing, taking notes, and hover in browser which is awesome for opening drop down menus)
However, the handwriting recoginition for chinese characters is AWESOME... if only i really knew how to write chinese
How do you use the pen to "write" texts rather than using the keyboard? I am able to "write" over the keyboard and see the writing but all I get is the letters from the keyboard that the pen touched while writing.

If you are using the samsung keyboard, i just press the button on the right of the "Sym" button, the one with "T" and it goes to the text writing using S-pen. Im not sure of any other ways. Maybe there is a way to make it default.

You can also go into samsung keyboard settings have change it so that it auto detects when the pen has been removed.
I've been enjoying s-pen for small stuff. like others have said, more accurate selections, web browsing tricks, etc
I saw someone mention using the back/menu buttons with s-pen (i have to use my fingers to tap those)...how does one use the home/back/menu buttons with s-pen? I have no idea
Long-press on the microphone key at the bottom of the keyboard, then select the "T" (the one with the little pencil next to it)
To view various helps, tutorials and setting options for the keyboard and handwriting recognition, tap the Gear symbol that pops-up after long-pressing the microphone key (as above). Alternatively, go to Settings/Language and Input then tap the Gear symbol next to "Samsung keyboard".
Explore. Lots of things appear when you explore.
While on the topic...
I wonder if I am the only one to have this happened to me, or if I am simply bone-headed, but all of a sudden the Samsung keyboard stopped working properly. It doesn't let me 'swype' anymore (the option is checked in the settings, but greyed out for some reason) and even though I have it setup so that it would go into handwriting recognition after pulling the pen out, it does not.
I noticed the change after "updating" the English dictionary in the 'input Languages' setting. Not sure wether or not it is related...
However, quite annoying...

Use the built-in gestures with the s-pen to do the back and menu. While pressing on the s-pen button, draw < to go back, or > for menu.
There is no gesture for home, but I ended up getting Taskarou (an launcher overlay), or you could use Button Savior to go back to home.

To bring up the gestures menu you press and hold the s pen button off screen while keeping it pressed, swipe up with the pen touching the screen. A little box pops up and then you can draw the gestures there. This can be done regardless of what launcher you use and it doesn't matter what app you are using.
