I'm a noob, so I hope this isn't a dumb question. I rooted for first time yesterday (full root) and am running EVOLutionV9. I installed Rom Manager, but I get an error everytime I try to flash clockworkmod. I was able to flash RA Recovery just fine, but clockworkmod doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks.
FYI to anyone else having this problem. It doesn't work on 3G, but worked first time on wifi.
Am trying to backup my current ROM using clockworkMOD 3.2.2, on my Huawei IDEOS U8150 but everytime i try to backup i get message unable to mount /datadata, partition /cust couldnt be mounted. As a result, am unable to restore since i keep getting MD5 mismatch message.
Please help.
1) Don't use ROM Manager
2) Amon Ra is better, so go with it....

Agreed on both points. Especially about ROM Manager. To flash ROMS boot into recovery and manually flash it. Gives you much more control over the process

The important thing is that you have a recovery and arguably, amon_RA is the better of the two. Is there a specific reason why you want to use ClockworkMod? If it is to be used in conjunction with ROM Manager, don't sweat it. It is far too easy to flash from within recovery and, besides, if you mess something up, believe me, ROM Manager wont be able to help you. You will have to go directly into recovery via the bootloader. Anyway, since you already have amon_RA installed, boot into it and take some time to peruse its simple and common sense menu system. You will gain a wealth of knowledge by doing so.

How easy/hard is it to do it? I am currently running Amon-Ra, moved to Cyanogen Mod and want to use Clockwork to grab the nightly builds. Is it as simple as installing it in the Clockwork app menu? I don't want to break anything, so I'd appreciate an answer before I do it.
Thanks in advance!
Not hard at all especially if you use rom manager
Just flash it from ROM Manager. If you want to keep your backups, copy /sdcard/nandroid/ to the ROM Manager Nandroid folder... Which I forget off the top of my head.
I suppose it's easy, but when I tried to flash Amon-RA today, it just booted me into fastboot, and I couldn't get to recovery until I flashed back clockwork. It could also just be because I did something to my rom, and I also can't install anything, from anywhere >_>
but you know, meh

Thanks for the link, but I still can't get it to flash. I tried fastboot and nothing opens up. I then tried on ADB, but I get the following error: mtd: not writing bad block at 0x00340000

no clue. I haven't tried it myself yet. I was thinking about it earlier... but I'm lazy. Maybe just try again? or do it from a terminal on the phone (using connectbot or something)

Haha. Thanks. I'm done fooling around w/ Ra. Clockwork has worked just fine for me, even though it doesn't wipe dalvik.
I have the same issue. I cant get it to work. I get the Writing... FAILED: (update image error)
Got clockwork to work again. i might download amon again?
One thing to remember though (from what I've seen), is that they use nand differently, so if you back something up with clockwork, make sure you restore it with clockwork or it may not restore correctly. If you backup with clockwork, restore with clockwork. If you backup with ar, restore with ar.

ok so I rooted my g2/vision/whatever you wanna call it.
Went a little rocky on the root, for some reason after the first perma root reboot, I was unrooted. Rebooted again and now have perma root for realz! and my bff becky was lyk omgz.
Ok now serious business time.
I installed clockwork rom manager (2.5.1.2) so I can make a backup before I go do some fun stuff, but here's my issue, everytime I try to reboot into recovery, I get the default recovery screen. When I try to do a backup, I get the default recovery screen. It does nothing but show an icon of my device with the "!" on it.
I've dealt with the clockwork recovery on my g1 before but it always worked no problemo. Dunno if something went wrong or I'm being a noob deluxe. Any input to aid in my troubles is much appreciated.
Just gonna throw this out did u flash recovery after installing Rom manager ?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
i used the option in clockwork rom manager to flash it. Says current recovery is 2.5.1.2. Latest recovery is 2.5.1.2.
Might as well try it again. I haven't tried the manual method yet though.
EDIT : ROFL, I tried it again just now and I'm looking at the clockwork recovery console. Wow... my phone requires me to do everything twice apparently...
Thanks for the speedy response though T.C.P
New question, how do I get this thread deleted/closed?
Don't worry, I had to do the exact same thing you did.
Root twice.
Flash Clockwork twice.
I believe it's a known issue.
At least that's all we had to do!
kind of a weird issue to have really... wonder how that might affect some mods down the line
please remember, the nand backup could be buggy or corrupted sometimes, backup and restore if you need to, just so you could check if the backup is working
Edit : Nevermind ....
Hey All,
I am a long time "rooter" (June of 2010) on my Dinc. However, I am trying to Flash the new version of Clockworkmod Recovery. I open Rom Manager, click option 1 to "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" to version 3.0.0.5. It asks me to verify my phone (Dink) and then says it flashed correctly. So, I reboot into Recovery and it is still the green text and says version 2.5.x.x. I reboot the phone and look in Rom Manager again it is says my Current version is 3.0.0.5. So, Rom Manager thinks I have the latest version of Recovery but I don't. I have tried other methods of Flashing the new version but that isn't working either. Specifically, I tried the ADB Shell. I get into ADB Shell just fine, but when I try to mount the SDCARD I get an error. I can boot the phone up and navigate just fine to the SDCARD. So I am not sure what the issue is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
**UPDATE** I also had update.zip on the root of my sdcard, I deleted that and it still doesn't work.
i think you have reformat the partition

Will that do damage? What partition, the SDcard? Please elaborate. Do that in the Clockworkmod Recovery?
FWIW, the new clockwork has compatibility issues with 95% of the flashable roms and extras out there right now. I wish I had not updated, and I am unable to go back (a nand restore would not do it.) Unless you feel a pressing need, you may be better off with the old version.
I got so frustrated, I switched my recovery to Amon_RA, which seems to work better for me at this point.

You do not need the new recovery for CM7 to work. You should also go to 3.0.0.8, there are problems with 3.0.0.5
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970032 for details.

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970032 on how to downgrade clockworkmod.
If your theme/extras developers have not upgraded their install scripts (like they have been warned to do for quite a few months) then this is the reason they do not work with the new CWM.
I followed the instructions but it still isn't working. I think the issue is ADB Shell can't mount the SDCARD. While in recovery, I can navigate to the SDCARD, but for some reason ADB Shell can't mount it. I tried all three methods as prescribed in the link. None work.

While you are booted in recovery I do not believe you can flash a new one. Boot to your ROM and try from there.
I figured it out. I ran the Unrevoked for Life patch and at that point it would let me update the Recovery image. Not sure if that was a prereq. or not. However, I am still experiencing issues. I am running CM7 with 3.0.0.8 Recovery. I am trying to update the nightly builds and it fails. Using Rom Manager to update my rom, it downloads the update. Reboots into Recovery and then says something about E:\ failure.
Well, I finally got the new recovery image but I can't update CM7 ROM's. It downloads the "Nightly Updates" but then says it can't mount E:\ when it reboots into recovery.
Hey guys, Sprint ended up changing something on my account and screwing up my evo so I couldn't access 3g. Long story short, I RUU'd to get it back to stock and was able to then get 3g data back. Now it still shows S-Off, but I can't boot into recovery and the clockwork mod rom manager won't work, because it says my phone still needs to be rerooted. I was thinking since when I boot into recovery it says S-Off, i'm already rooted and I just need the zip for clockwork mod recovery and I can then go in and flash roms to my hearts content.
Does anyone know where I can find the .zip for clockwork mod recovery?
You need to flash clockworkmod through the bootloader I wouldnt recommend clockworkmod and most people don't recommend it you can find it on clockworkmod.com under recovery images and look for the EVO
Edit:also you might have to flash a superuser zip to get root back
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I don't personally recommend clockworkmod to use as your recovery, but if you just need to have it, you should find it much easier to run the attached PC36IMG file from your SD card.
Also, you may need to flash (or install from SD card) through clockwork the attached superuser zip file to obtain your root permissions if you are going to continue to use stock ROM.
That works
Thank you Shorty Dogg - the pc36img.zip was exactly what i needed. I'm used to Amon Ra, but wanted to try out clockwork. Thanks again!
I would use amon RA or amon RA style supersonic recovery since u had cwm b4 I'd recommend RA style supersonic recovery 3.0.8 as it will allow you to use your cwm backups as well as RA backups and any backups you make in the future, plus it has capacitive buttons and touch screen working in recovery has a battery level option and etc check it out in development

Good luck cwm is garbage compared to RA on the evo it doesn't like to wipe properly alot of times, as well as it doesn't have the same wipe options as RA, atleast it didnt the last time I used it which has been a minute I ditched it for RA almost immediately

I successfully rooted my phone a few days ago using the Revolutionary method and flashed ClockworkMod Recovery without a problem. Then I flashed CyanogenMod 7.1.0 again without a problem. I noticed my gps has been having an issue detecting my location so I figured I should flash the nandroid for my stock rooted android 2.3.3 rom and see if the issue still exists. My main problem is that I can't boot into recovery. Apparently I have the latest version of Clockwork. I try to boot into recovery using different methods and I keep ending up at the white screen that says 'Revolutionary' in pink at the top with the 3 skateboarding androids at the bottom. I try to get to recovery from that screen also still with no success. It just reboots into that screen. I was thinking I may have to use the ruu to unroot my Evo (I rather find an alternative solution). How can I regain my ability to boot into recovery? Any help would be much appreciated...

If grab the pc36img for amon_ra, throw it in the root of your SD, using a card reader in a computer, get into hboot and let it install. Then try to get into recovery. F clockwork anyway.....90% of the peeps around here having problems are running that recovery

Turn off your phone, then when turning it on hold the volume rocker in the down position, you will then boot into hboot settings, hboot will automatically check for the update file(PC36IMG)after its done, scroll to recovery and enter that way,if you still cant get into recovery, you will need to download and reinstall the latest revolutionary root tool,i recommend using "TeamWin Recovery Project" i've never had a problem with it.

I installed a new recovery after i installed revolution, because i also had recovery issues. The version should be at the top of the recovery screen.I didnt like rom manager too much, for some reason it gives me problems.
They say that this version of Amon can be used to restore clockwork backups. I haven't tried it with clockwork myself because I avoids clockworkmod.
Thanks for the help everyone. Everything is gravy now. I'm happy with TWRP. I do have a question for making a backup. By default in TWRP, the 1st 3 boxes are checked up for when attempting to make a backup. Do any of you guys ever check the other boxes (Recovery, cache, .android_secure) and if so, why? Also, when you attempt to wipe before restoring, which items do you guys wipe? Any other tips or suggestions about this recovery would appreciated too.
I backup everything except cache.
