Roote and install Android 2.2 A.K.A (froyo) - Desire General

Hi DUDES!! ; D
I have spent over a week now, getting tried to get to the froyo on my HTC Desire but it fails me yet ..
I really do not know what to do .. .. Have heard here and many others have got froyo on their HTC Desire but how!? : /
Have tried these things ..
geekword.net
This website I understood, but I could not figure out how to install Rom, I have renamed the zip folder to update.zip and put it on my sd card but it keeps saying "Installation aborted" ...
forum.xda-developers.com I went on the link called How To: Root the HTC Desire
theunlockr.com
Finally I found something that worked until I found out when I reached fake flashing so as recovery menu appeared as Nexus one, the menu came up but I could not go up and down the Tools menu. who stood at the bottom Not build seen? : S .. I have installed HTC sync driver and android-sdk_r06-windows, but sometimes pops up on screen where it says "driver not functioning properly, try windowsupdate" What `? I went in and investigated on my Device Manager and there I found out sometimes lacked the android 1.0 driver, but I've also been looking for but could not install it: S..
I am a huge problem!! ; /
My operating system on my computer is windows xp ..
Hope will help me, can simplehen not wait to get to the froyo on my HTC desire! ; D
Thank you for your time and help!
Sincerely. Jeff

eerm i think if you use fakeflash and put the rom on your sd card and rename the rom in update.zip, you overwrite the fakeflash?!
do not rename the rom. install fakeflash again and boot ur phone in recovery. install from zip an choose the rom

Have you tried this?
If it doesn't work, try this one. The zip package you'll download from there includes the drivers you're gonna need (from what I can remember, can't check right now - I'm at work).
Good luck!

[Q] Confused and Overwhelmed. After some Clarity!

Hello!
I recently purchased a HTC Desire HD through a carrier in Australia after being a nokia dumbphone owner for my "connected life". I have done some reading into the Custom ROM scene and I am loving the potential benefits and modifications that are possible with them, however being new to Android, new to Smartphones and new to Custom Roms I am to say the least a little confused.
I decided this carrier added bloatware just has to go and after a little reading I like the idea of LeeDrOiD HD v1.2.
I have attempted to follow the instructions in the Leedroid HD thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842802
Which tells me i Need to flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842819
Which in turn tells "You will need the ENG HBOOT installed on your device to flash this recovery!"
and of course I could not find any details on what ENG HBOOT is let alone how to install it.
How deep does the rabbit hole go Alice? The multiple tears are becoming confusing and complicated and I am wondering if this is just a LeeDroid thing, or are these steps necessary for all custom roms? Or just the Desire HD. I am fairly confident with the safety of replacing a rom but the more steps by more people are adding uncertainty in the safety of the whole procedure and of course raising the probability of an under informed and maybe slightly reckless newby to brick a perfectly acceptable phone.
Is anyone able to reccomend a resource to better acquaint a Newby with this new territory? Is thier a more comprehensive guide to installing LeeDroid or "Rom-ing" an android phone.
Hi,
Give me a few minutes to pull together a few guides for you.
This Guide with Video is very helpful at performing all the little tasks that allow you to flash custom ROMs.
In short the ENG HBOOT allows the flashing of an unsigned recovery "Clockwork Mod", which then allows you to flash custom ROMs. Flashing the ENG HBOOT is a one time process, once you have done it there is no need to do it again.
Just a few questions,
1). Do you have a Stock HTC Unbranded & Unlocked ROM or a Carrier Branded ROM?
2). Have you rooted you DHD yet?
This is the way I personally went about the whole process, its a guide that zexbig posted and can be found HERE
Summary:
1) Download Paul's Visionary+ tool (I have used version r12) (google removed this app from market) so You will have to download it from Paul's website.
This tools enables root and removes new HTC protection.
2) Install engineering version of HBOOT to get S-Off (HTC bootloader, something like BIOS for Your PC)
This step is optional and it's not required in order to flash custom ROM's on Your DHD but gives You more freedom with Your device.
3) Install custom recovery image (recovery is special program which is invoked from HBOOT
in order to flash ROM onto Your device.
Detailed description:
1) Download Paul's Visionary+ tool
1.1) Click here to download http://android.modaco.com/content/ht...ne-click-root/ or download it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...3&d=1290501865
1.2) Install Visionary+ on Your DHD
1.3) Run it, enable "Set system r/w after root
1.4) Click "Temproot Now!" - Wait until it's finished
1.5) Click Attempt Permroot Now!
1.6) DHD automatically reboot's
To test that everything went fine download from market application "terminal emulator"
run it, type su
If You get after that sign # it mean's that everything went fine.
Time for next step!
2) Install engineering version of HBOOT to get S-Off
2.1) Download sfjuocekr DHD script for flashing HBOOT from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835746
2.2) Unzip it and copy it to Your SDCard (It's important that You have on Your SDCard root directory with name DHD and all files inside this directory.
(I have run into the strange problem for which I'm not sure is it problem with my PC or DHD, each time when I connected my DHD via USB cable my SDCard was automatically mounted as Disk Drive instead of just being in "Charge only" mode. I resolved this by removing back cover and ejecting SDCard and inserting it again while phone was operational, which is very unsafe thing to do!).
2.3) Run Terminal Emulator
2.4) Type su
2.5) Type "sh /sdcard/DHD/check
(Please be aware that You have to type "sh" in front of command)
2.6) If everything went OK type
sh /sdcard/DHD/backup
2.7) If this also went OK proceed with
sh /sdcard/DHD/hboot
This command will install engineering hboot which have S-Off turned off.
3) Install custom recovery image
3.1) Since ROM manager now officially support's Desire HD, we will use it to download and install custom clockwork image.
3.2) Run android market app on Your DHD and download and install ROM Manager app from market.
3.3) Download and install ROM manager.
3.4) Run ROM manager and select first option (Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery).
3.5) Wait until ROM Manager say's that installation went successfully (Current version of ClockWorkMod is 2.5.1.3)
3.6) After installation tap in Rom manager option Reboot into Recovery to test that everything went well.
3.7) DHD should reboot in clockwork recovery manager.

-Visionary is now v14+, not 12 as posted.
If you have any problems, just let us know.
Quick Response thanks!
It is unfortunatly a Carrier Branded rom. Full of widgets that are just links to webpages. What is even worse is I bought my phone through a company who leases lines off the carrier so because I am technically not with the carrier I can't use their aps even if i wanted to.
I believe I have temp rooted it so far. I have downloaded VISIONary +
Epic.. Thank you kindly. I am in the process.
I don't understand why carriers have to ruin the whole "Android Experience" by bundling awful apps that nobody wants, otherwise they would of downloaded them themselves.
The last guide I posted is the one I used. Once you have followed all of the steps then your in a position to flash a custom ROM. If you are planning to overclock or underclock then you will also need to find a suitable "Kernel" to flash with your ROM. Most ROMs do come complete with a custom kernel but that may not be the best for your particular needs.
Once bit of advice. Always, always a backup of your ROM before you flash anything else.
Flashing custom ROMs is easy once the above steps are complete.
1). Download your chosen ROM.
1a). Optional Download your chosen Kernel.
2). Transfer ROM (+ Kernel) to your SD Card, place in the root of the card.
3). Boot into Recovery. Power off (Ensure HTC Fast Boot is disabled), Power on whilst holding VOL DOWN, using volume keys select Recovery, press power to enter.
4). Create Backup, backup and restore > backup.
5). Wipe All Data including cache
6). Install .zip from SD Card, Select the correct ROM zip and confirm.
7). Optional, repeat with Kernel, if necessary.
8). Reboot.
9). Bask in glory, you have conquered your smartphone.
Again, if you want more info feel free to ask. We all had to learn once, or twice.
For Clarification on HBOOT loading.
I do want to be viewing the Android device as a disk drive?
Secondly Do I create a folder on the SD card in the root directory called DHD and then drop the 3 files contained in the Zip file into that folder?
Example
Root Directory
>.data
>Alarms
>Android
>bugreports
>DCIM
>DHD --Newly created folder
>>DHD-dumb --dragged and dropped
>>DHD-smart --dragged and dropped
RTFM.txt --dragged and dropped
>downloads
etc..
Yes you do want to view it as a disk drive.
You are also correct with the folders.
SDCard/DHD/ - place files here -
Ok my description failed.
Instead of the folders listed above
">>DHD-dumb --dragged and dropped
>>DHD-smart --dragged and dropped
RTFM.txt --dragged and dropped"
should I be taking the contents of (smart or dumb?) and placing that in the DHD created directory?
obviously the commands in the terminal dont correspond to having the files in a sub folder. I appologise for you having to answer obvious questions however I am a little weary of bricking.
I'd rather you post a question and get it answered before you post a problem and have an expensive paperweight.
Take the "DHD-smart" folder from wherever you extracted it, place that on your SD Card, then rename that folder to just "DHD".
Excellent. All Is working as planned. I'm in the process of D/L ing Leedroid rom.
Thanks for your help again.
I'll post back once I have things up and rolling.
No problem at all.
Just remember to make a backup from within "Recovery", it will save you one day.
I appologise I forgot to Post back.
Everything is running sweetly now, absolutley no bugs with the Root or new LeeRoid rom.
Thanks again for your help.

[SOLVED] Problems on LeeDroid 2.3d

Hello,
I have an HTC Desire with last LeeDroid version 2.3d and last ROM Radio
Il like it, it's great, but
- I hate the BIOS bootanimation, it's very awful, hideous, I want to eject it from my phone, it's very annoying and I want to **** it when I see on the screen
but, but, it's not very simple to remove or change it
=> I've tried with adb and Root Explorer: it doesn't work at all, it's very frustrating: phone reboot when I try or do nothing at all!!
is there a way to fix that?
- Another problem: I hate the Contacts/Phone/Dialer from HTC included with the LeeDroid: awful too, and prefer the original Android Contacts/Phone. With LeeDroid, there is Android_Contacts provided, thanks, but:
how can I install it?? By Recovery? By .apk using adb or via the Phone?
- by recovery, that doesn't work!
- by install via adb or phone, it works, but when I want to use Phone for calling anybody, the app crash (force closing!) with a message about android.process.acore !!
It's very frustrating too, because there's no explanationat all.
And don't answer me, try a search, because, on this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703, there is almost 2000 pages (IMO: there's a great problem on this forum: arrangement's problem, so when you search an info, it's very hard to find it)
THANKS!
Take a look at this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935288&highlight=replace+bootanimation
One of the solutions must work.
Or at Android flasher
Only way to do change it if you are S-ON, is booting into recovery and change the files via adb (for the first post). Android Flasher requires S-OFF.
Changing the dialer : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12159471&postcount=19080
Just flash it from recovery.
Ok, for the Android Contacts, with the file you give me, it works, THANKS!!
but one question reminds: why with the file provided here, by the developer of LeeDroid release himself, it doesn't work ???
I haven't yet tested the botanimation
I'll try soon...
EDIT:
- my HTC Desire is S-ON, so I can't use Android Flasher
- the bootanimation.zip is on /system/customize/resource: the other solutions provided in your link can't work in this case (I've already tried to place the file in /data/app/local => didn't work!! And there's no system/sd/app/local directory on my Phone, can't be that)
I've tried to push file via adb in recovery:
C:\Users\Philouille>adb push C:\bootanimation.zip /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
1417 KB/s (3112989 bytes in 2.144s)
Click to collapse
Success??
Power down the Phone, boot and...
No luck, nothing change, I already have this bull**** of BIOS Boot Animation
Re-edit:
not tell yet, but when I was trying to overwrite the bootanimation with Root Explorer and r/w rights, the Phone directly reboot => no change
I also use LD 2.3d and i also tired to replace the BootAnim several times usig several methods...
Finally i s-ff'ed my phone and used Android Flasher and worked like a charm.
Also u can try a method i didnt try,go to the online Desire kitchen >http://uot.dakra.lt/
And cook a theme, select from the rom list your current rom and select only a bootanimation, once done, flash it from recovery
Thanks aca85, it works!!
but now I lost the Flyin Transition Animations after the flashing ...
ok, succeeded after reflashing Flyin Tranzition Animations file zip in recovery
Thanks!!
Glad to hear it
No prob.

[Q] Install OTA manually on Wildfire?

I guess its buried deep under and that I will have to turn a lot of rocks to find a answer to this from the forum. I am getting random results on searching. Nothing on wildfire specifically.
I want to know how I can install an OTA update manually on Wildfire. I don't want root.
I have the OTA.xxx.zip file from "Shipped_ROMS" website and I want to do a manual install.
I have figured out this much. I have to rename the file something like "PG05IMG.zip"(for hTC Hero that is) and put in SD card. Start into HBoot by key combination.
And then ? (Should I got to "Recovery", what can I expect next ?)
What should I rename the zip file as ? (Very important)

Firstly make sure of that u don't want root anymore.
And are u asking the thing for htc hero or for wildfire. Im giving the process for wildfire. I dont know about this thing in hero.
First rename the OTA update zip file to "update.zip" and put it in the root of the memory card. Then reboot the phone into hboot menu and then select recovery. Then u will see a red triangle. Now press volume up + power key. Then u will go to the recovery menu. There u will have the option to install the sd card update.zip . just do it and then reboot the phone. Thats all.
NOTE: If u modify the contents of that zip file, then htc signature will be lost and installation will be cancelled with an error. And donot do the process with low battery.
edit: Told u that thinking ur phone was not a rooted one.

[Q] How to update Hboot to 1.01.0001 for AlphaRevX beta?

Hello all!
I Want to get S-OFF on my device. i Have Hboot 0.80.xxxx
I have a rootet phone with wildpuzzle 0.8. and Revovery 2.5.0.7

There are so many and i hope that somebody knows the right one

AlphaRev:
http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/ (hboot)
HTC Wildfire (buzz) 1.01.0001
You need the froyo ruu from shipped roms website with the filename " RUU_BUZZ_FROYO_HTC_WWE
and you also should make a gold card. And if the ruu gives any error, extract the Rom.zip from the windows temporary folder and rename it to PC49IMG.ZIP to be kept at the root of sdcard. Then reboot to hboot menu from where you can update that.
And CID errors mean that your gold card is not working.

WWE 2.22.405.1 will give you HBoot 1.01.0001
so this one: ?
RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe
and then i must make a goldcard and but the file renamed to => PC49IMG.ZIP
and boot to bootloader
to i need to rename the file? is this the right file? with the right hboot?
Make sure phone is set to Usb Debugging and Charge Only, then just run the exe and follow instructions on install, and that's it!

Yes, its the right file with the right HBoot. But I hope that you are referring to the extracted ROM.ZIP which must be renamed, not the EXE file itself. If not, just follow that post above.
Hello all,
my son has a wildfire with these specs :
- android 2.1
- baseband 13.45.55.24_3.35.15.31
- kernel 2.6.29-6fb59e13
- build 1.29.163.1 CL235700
and...
- HBOOT 0.80.0002
- Radio 3.35.15.31
- S-ON
He wants to try a cyanogen rom.
How can I do ?
I've done this : install root/recovery with unrevoked.
Root is OK but the recovery don't work : when i select an option, the screen become black and nothing happen...
So I think i've done a bad thing...
After reading many posts, i think the method could be this :
- flash an official froyo 2.2 rom to have the hboot 1.01.0001 (got a goldcard for that)
- s-off the phone with AlphaRev X
- install ClockWorkMod
- flash the cyanogen with ClockWorkMod
Right ?
But i also read that when flashing an official froyo 2.2, the root become impossible.
Somebody to help me ?

Cm7 needs cwm recovery 3.x or above. Download any 3.x or above recovery.img file and then use unrevoked to select custom recovery from file menu. Point to the downloaded img file. It gives you the required recovery for flashing cm7 rom.
And altrrnatively you can also flash a 3.0.0.6 recovery from the rom manager if you had a rooted phone presently. Open rom manager and select "all clockworkmod recoveries" at the bottom. Flash 3.0.0.6 recovery. Then reboot to recovery from the option in rom manager itself. Then you will get 3.x recovery for that instant. But I recommend to use unrevoked and flash a higher recovery because few people had problems with 3.0.0.6 recovery .
And you can also use alpharevx to s-off and then root. But better do it after knowing the uses of s-off. And if at all your phone is A3335 wildfire, I would strongly suggest not to update hboot. Because almost all the people who faced alpharevx "nand writing error due to bad blocks" are having A3335 wildfire. If at all you want to go with alpharevx, then check my sign for the links to process.

Yes, it is the right ruu.exe file .
Just make a gold card and run the ruu with phone connected in charge only mode. If you face Cid error then problem with goldcard. And for any errors, go with second way.
Do not connect phone to PC. On PC, click on start and type %temp% and enter. This opens the user temp folder of PC. Now open the ruu and donot go with process. And donot exit the ruu window too, just keep it aside. Now if you observe the temp folder, there will be 2 extra folders created with lengthy filename enclosed in {} brackets. If you explore these folders, you will find rom.zip . Copy the rom.zip to the root of your sdcard ( formatted with fat32 ). Then rename the rom.zip to pc49img.zip Then boot into hboot menu for updating it. And donot interrupt the process and make sure you have enough battery. Since the hboot and radio flashing in that are sensitive. Ofcourse, goldcard is needed here too, and Cid error mean goldcard not working.
[Don't know what things you need. But just thought of making clear. And I didn't mean renaming of ruu.exe to pc49img.zip].

Dear bharatgaddameedi,
first : THANK YOU !
This is why i love XDA : a great community with great members.
So, i'm going to read carrefully your complete guide (i don't know why i miss it !).
And after, if it don't work, i will ask questions !
Just a little one at this moment : you said if my phone is A3335 wildfire, don't update hboot. Where i can find this information ?
Because i thought that A3335 was just the wildfire code (mine has been produce in may 2010).
[EDIT] : for this question, it seems that this thread give me the answer.
Mine is like the first pic (A3333), so it's not an A3335 ! that's cool...
So i'm going to follow your guide because, i've installed the 3.0.0.6 recovery and, like the 2.5 version, black screen when i select something...
You can see under the battery of your wildfire whether it is A3333 or A3335. Just need to read the tiny letters. Pics of both will be same.
Edit: and I think you are using power button to select options in custom recovery. If so, you shouldn't use power button to select options in custom recovery. Instead you should use trackpad to select options and power button to go back to previous menu.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
You're right my friend !
I was using the power button to select options in custom recovery...
(because it's not my phone... mine is an LG O2X, and in the clockworkmod, i use the power button...)
I followed all your guide, and the wildfire is now S-ON, rooted and has a recent clockworkmod recovery (v4.0.0.5).
So, my son is going to choose the rom he want (cyanogen i think) and let's go to flash !
BIG THANK again Bharat for your support!
[EDIT] : Cyanogen nightly 128 has been flashed. Everything is going OK ! My son is happy ! Thanks again Bharat !

Creating ext partition on memory card depends on your need. It is not mandatory, but may be needed if you are out of phone memory. It gives you true apps2sd with the ability to move dalvik cache too. It moves every 3rd party app to the ext partition. After creating the ext partition you should flash the DTApps2sd from recovery to use the true apps2sd.
On the other hand, without creating ext partition, you can use the traditional android froyo + aps2sd which installs apps (almost all apps) on the android secure folder of memory card. It doesn't has the ability to move the cache. But you can move almost all the apps to sdcard. You need to use adb command "adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2". This command is not even needed for cm7 since cm7 has inbuilt option for this command.
And creating ext3/ext4 may depend on the speed (class) of memory card. Also moving dalvik cache to sdcard should be done with a better class sdcard.
And personally for me, partitioning with cwm recovery gave bootloops (after flashing DTApps2sd) for a memory card but got success with other card. Anyway I used "gparted live CD" to partition my memory card which was a bit headache at first but finally got success.

1. i dont need dsp manager (and some other apps) to get more ram free , how can i deinstall it? (unpack the download , delete files [apk] , install cyan 7) is this the right way?
2. What are some good config for tweaks under settings? vm heaps and cache and so on....
3. With the govenor Smartass i cant get under 420mhz (min clock) overclock works. With other govenor the min clock is fine down too 122mhz. Why not with smartass?
3. I have installed facebook app from the market (1.6.1) and the login and logoff of facebook need loooong time ~30sec. .After login off i get and error and app crashes but everything is ok after that?!?
I hope that somebody can help me or is this the problem with the RC1?
thanks everyone

1: You can do that, or use apps like Titanium Backup / Root Uninstaller to uninstall apps like DSP Manager
2. I keep VM Heap Size at 24MB, Rest all are at Stock. I would rather not mess with them.
3. When you use Smartass, and, your screen is on, it will automatically set the lowest clock value to 528MHz. When the screen is off, it reverts to the set lowest value. Thus, it conserves battery when needed, and provides extra power when needed. Thereby- smart.
3. Can't help you with Facebook, Sorry. Don't have that installed.

How to root a lenovo A690

Hi, I have a Lenovo A690 phone. I need to root it. A friend found me a A690_Rootkit. How do I use it ?
It consists of
SP_Flash_Tool_exe_v3.1224.01 folder
recover folder
driver(A690)
A690-rootBy9Sky.zip
Any help would be appreciated if anyone knows any instructions. Thanks
Good Luck for your A690
Hello Marculos,
I too bought this phone 1 month ago. The advantage is that it is quite cheap on chinese websites, and quite powerful (good rapid chipset, nice screen), , but the main drawback is that is isn't rooted, and only in chinese/english (US), and that it is full of chinese bloatware ... and misses Goggle PlayStore
However I managed to root it, install a nice CUSTOM ROM with root, install Goggle Play Store, move apps to an EXT2 partition on my SDCARD to save memory, remove bloatware (the most difficult was to know which program to remove, as most of them were written in chinese).
To root your phone (if you trust your friend that provided the zip to you), you will have to proceed carefully, as usual.
There are many forums that explain how to do it ; it is always the same operations, so I don't understand why you did not find one.
1 - follow the tutos to install the drivers (allowing your phone to connect to flashtool in the right protocole for flashing)
2 - follow the tutos on flashtool to install the CWM that should be in your 'revover' folder (follow tutos on CWM ; yours should be a 5.0.2.7 based one)
3 - follow the tutos to install your A690-rootBy9Sky.zip Custom Rom
4 - Enjoy
take care that your custom rom might be in chinese when you reboot ; you will have to select english language using the menus written in chinese letters !
Don"t forget that these operations might brick your phone if you perform a bad operation or forget something (even if the phone is a cheap one, that's always ennoying).
I can't help anymore.
Good Luck
I have also got the Lenovo A690 and have been searching the net for a way to route it, I think I need that zip and maybe a link to a how to.
would be great help as its driving me crazy over christmas weekend and its the only phone I have.
It's crazy the phone is like unusable as it has hundreds of apps preinstalled in chinese which I cant remove and there is not enough room to put any more on the phone even with an empty 8gb sd card in it aaaaahhhh
A690 CWM and Custom Rom
Hello dominiclodon,
You can easily find a custom ROM for the A690 by seaching 'needrom a690' on internet. You will have to register to the needrom website, which is currently the only one providing a custom ROM for this phone; and then download all the given files (the drivers, the flashtool, the revcovery (including the CWM-based 5.0.2.7) and the ROM (version 1.4a looks aliek android 2.3.6 and version 1.5a looks like andoid ICS).
Take care that the CWM-based is in chinese (menus are sorted in quite the same order as for an english version). Custom rom is also in chinese when flashed, but after that, you can change the "language" to English US.
The ROM includes root privileges (you will see the Superuser icon), and a RE (in chinese).
I personally removed all bloatware after having installed a browser like Root Browser, and moved most of the user apps on the EXT2 partition of my SD card thanks to Link2DS app. Then installed all useful stuff (AVG antivirus, LBE privacy firewall, a french language package, a Go keyboard (the olnly one installed in the ^hone was the chinese "Sogou" keyboard !).
Everything can be found on the numerous tutos in XDA or in the web.
Good luck

Thanks for the help. I have to say I find the instructions I have found as clear as mud ! I can see how to install the USB VCOM and MTK USB drivers. The PDF states that the firmware should have 3 folders apdb, modemdb and target_bin. I can't find these.
When you load the scatter loading file theer are a bunch of files that are needed in the target_bin folder which I can't find. Any ideas ?
rooting help
I have found a guide here too
http://test.zhaoxinpeng.com/viewjy.php?id=77b8dc7f27ec456174eab6b5
from what I can see you need to roughly:
Turn off phone
Connect to usb
Install downloaded USB drivers
Load the flash tool
Open MT675_Android_Scatter from recover folder
Untick or tick ? Preloader
Click download
Then boot the phone into recovery mode (power and volume +)
Then unsure !!

Ya i agree with you..if you are sure that the rooting procedure is meant for your device then go ahead
how to root
Here is how I rooted my Lenovo A690. THIS WILL WIPE EVERYTHING INCLUDING IN MY CASE THE IMEI. WARNING !!!
What you need:
MTKdroidTools_v229.exe - only needed if you wipe your IMEI
Full A690 Firmware - got mine off Pandawill forum.
Try this :
http://74.86.85.61/showthread.php?15487-ROM-Lenovo-A690_S012_121018-for-sku35508
or google below - this is the one I used
A690_SO13_12105.
Below all available from needrom. You will need to register
http://www.needrom.com/phone-roms/lenovo/a690/
USBVCom driver
SP Flash Tool - I used v3.1220.01
Recovery.img (in recovery zip)
A690 ROM in zip file. I used a690_s013_121207_v2.0_9sky
On a x86 Win 7 pc .. extract all downloaded stuff
1/ Connect phone to pc with usb cable. Do not switch on. When prompted for a driver install the USB V Com driver. Should show up in Ports.
(usb2ser_Win7.inf)
2/ You need to maybe change the checksum.ini in the folder with the full ROM in. Change CHECKSUM_SWITCH=1 to 0.
3/ Open SP Flash Tool.
4/ Open MT675_Android_scatter.txt from the full ROM folder, NOT the recover image.
PRELOADER
DSP_BL
UBOOT
BOOTIMG
RECOVERY
SEC_RO
LOGO
ANDROID
USRDATA
5/ This should load a bunch of files as above needed to flash the phone to the stock ROM.
6/ You will need to change the recovery.img to the one downloaded from needrom website. This will load the modified CWM recovery image needed to load the custom firmware. You may need to change the checksum value as above...
7/ Click "Download"
8/ Connect your phone. (Take out battery then reconnect)
9/ If all good you should see a nice green circle and the CWM recovery image should have been loaded together with stock ROM.
10/ Next, copy the custom rom you want to use to the root of the SD card on the phone and rename to update.zip
11/ Reboot the phone, press vol + plus power. You should now see CWM-based recovery
12/ Choose the second option ??/sdcard/update.zip.
13/ Press the bottom left button and the ROM should update.
14/ That should be it ! Mine booted in chinese only and took me a while to find the option to change to english.
15/ If you get invalid IMEI error then you need to recreate the IMEI values. I used the MTKdroidTools_v229.exe tool to reenter both IMEI (same for both). The IMEI is printed on the back of the phone. You can also set the IMEI from a terminal app on the phone.
I've go this error when rooting
BROM ERROR : S_FT_NEED_DOWNLOAD_ALL_FAIL (4050)
Need download all images!
Could you please tell me what's i'm missing?

I'm not sure if the stock rom can be rooted. I tried with all the tools out there superoneclick etc and couldnt get it to root with these tools.
I had no success just trying to replace the recovery.img so I replaced the entire rom (if rom is right terminoogy)
Did you use the rom downloaded from Pandawill link ? These files below are needed for full flash (replacing the standard recovery.img with the CWM recovery.img).
PRELOADER
DSP_BL
UBOOT
BOOTIMG
RECOVERY
SEC_RO
LOGO
ANDROID
USRDATA
Now its rooted Ive added a 16gb sd card and used link2sd with a 2nd partition for apps and I can install a ton more apps than before. I can't get a google account natively working either but doesnt bother me that much as just use 1Mobile Market for apps, and 3rd party email app.

Yes, I did use Pandawill's link to get recovery file then use flash tool to replace stock recovery.img. Then I got that error. I doubt that we can't root stock room by this way.

I had no joy just replacing the stock recovery.img. You need to replace the entire ROM from pandawill link (with new CWM recovery.img).
I replaced the entire ROM together with a new CWM recovery.img then loaded a custom ROM as an update.zip. This was the only way I could root the device. I'm not sure if its possible to root the stock ROM.
