SetCPU and "RAM Usage" only show 408MB of total memory (I'm using ShadowFrost kernel).
Where is the rest? Is it just reserved for the system and the gpu and it's not visible to the user?
Yes that is correct, the remainder of the RAM is reserved/used by the Android system and i would imagine that some of that is also utilised by the GPU.
Your total ram usage should only show 400 Mb, but because of the modified kernel hack, you get the extra 8 Mb

So i checked the phone's "components" within quadrant's system info and I saw that my phone has 230 mb free and ~220 mb inactive... So how do I activate those mb?
P.S: I have CM7 1.5

it means not currently in use not that it isnt working.
Then why when i use that widget from advanced task killer shows only 240mb free after killing all processes
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
advanced task killer only kills unwanted apps. You cant kill core system apps, the android system and the linux kernel can you? So that is what takes the rest of the ram
Ok thx

Hi every one. how could i turn the ram to original space. means 512mb?
My phone is rooted.
Is there anyway to do it?
No...the only usable ram is only 368mb the rest is the the system etc camera, gpu and more...

I'm not sure,but its impossible to get 512mb ram...most I can get is 220mb free ram =\

You can't get more RAM than 330MB or so, the rest is for the radio and possibly other system stuff. Why is it a problem though ? Typically (running 2.3 at least) there should be lots of free RAM.

I saw 512+ before as total ram

That's very interesting because I saw 512MB too but now I have 368MB. Don't remeber when was it probably before rooting and flashing. Is this correct that task manager reports only 368MB as total memory?
Now I have Virtuous Affinity 2.05 and HBOOT from virtuous page. Is this could be the reason?
I always get around 250mb ram rarely 310mb :O
If its the value in About Phone - Hardware Info, i think that can be set to show anything you want in the build.prop file. The most accurate method to check RAM value and free RAM is using "free" in Terminal Emulator.
As discussed, the 512MB is shared between the phone, radio and graphics
Hi our device has 576 mb ram but only 405 available. The question is if we can unlock this ram.

It's not a matter of unlocking.
The missing 171mb of RAM are allocated to video memory.

Hello frnds,
Is there any way to increase the available RAM on our phone, means we have got around 700mb available whereas its actual announced capacity is 1Gb,
In a latest Xperia, Xperia C, being the same 1GB, its showing around 900Mb..!
Don't ask why to bother about 200Mb, because it does matter a lot for me
Thanks in advance.. :good:
Try to use this app: RAM Expander

Dont do anything like ram expander. That works fine but decreses the life of sd card.

You need to do some reading on RAM. Unused RAM is wasted RAM.
As for why you're "missing" some of it, blame it on Android and the GPU.

Add some memory managment-init.d scripts then!
Anyone got a performance boost by using any of the swap creating apps out there? I tried a few apps but all of them eventually led to my device slow down and lag to no end!

Enabling KSM in options -> performance -> memory will greatly reduce your RAM usage. It's a light form of compression originally designed for virtual machines but it turned out to help a lot for low RAM devices and google recommends it for 512MB devices such as ours.
Thanks . Have another question which is that our device have 512MB of RAM but only 340 to 360MB RAM is displayed why ??

this is how it works. no worries about "lost" ram
Okay ! Thankx everyone
