does anyone knows why my evo is dumping these files on the root of my sd card? it'll be a string of them, where the hell is this coming from?

Hi,
I'm coming from a Blackberry device and I made the mistake of taking my SD card directly from my BB and putting it into my DI. I should have cleaned it up first. What I'm wondering is what is the folder structure on an Android 2.2 device supposed to look like? I want to get rid of extra folders that may have come from my BB, but I'm not sure which ones those are and I don't want to delete any folders that Android needs. Also, where is the correct place to put all of my sounds, ringtones, music, movies, etc. so that they will be seen by the phone? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
So I'm getting a bigger SD card and wondering how I can copy the files on my existing SD on to the new one? I could just drag and drop files onto my computer then on to the new card but was wondering if there is a better way to do this? Thanks!
What you mentioned is what I did, worked fine. Format the new one FAT32 before copying files to it.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Ok thanks. I figured that would be what I'd have to do but was curious to see if people had other methods. Just want to make sure my backups and everything will still work.
I would say safest bet is the dragging and dropping from your computer. You can try dropbox, I am not too sure how much space they give you, but if there is enough that could make it easier since there is a dropbox app.
Either way I would at least keep a copy on your computer to be safe.
I backup my SD pretty often to make sure I don't lose anything in case of an SD card going bad.
The easiest and cleanist way Is to create a folder on your desktop (I call my DInc SD) and drag and drop a copy of all your folders into that folder. Just like SMTOM said, you should format the new card to FAT32 if it isn't already.
you could also back up to dropbox using titanium (paid version) and restore using titanium
Newbie question, forgive me if it's dumb. I have a Galaxy Tab T310 that I just rooted because I wanted to be able to get around the SD card write issue. BUT, the real problem I have is that I want to simply copy movies from my desktop to the Tab via a USB cable but the Tab keeps erasing the files. It doesn't erase the directories I create on the SD, it just erases the files IN the directories and often the subdirectories. Sometimes it erases them as soon as I copy new files to the SD, sometimes when I reboot the phone. But it always erases them.
I'm assuming this is related to the Android security effort to "protect me," but I don't know how to keep it from happening. Will one of the root apps like SDFix keep this from happening? Again, I'm not talking about apps being able to write files to the SD, I'm just talking about me being able to write files to the SD using a cable and then KEEPING the files from being erased by the Tab. Thanks for the help!
Auto-delete files
Can anyone point me toward another forum where I might find an answer to this question? I thought this would be the best place but apparently I am the only person who has ever seen this problem. This makes me wonder whether there is another problem with the tablet....

You might try downloading an SD Card Fix app from the Play store. There are several of them. KK messed up the ability to copy to the Ext SD card.
If you're rooted, then download ES File explorer app. Run it and hit your menu button. Scroll down the menu and make sure Root Explorer is checked.
That's all I can think of that might help
Dumb Question Of The Day: I put a 64G mSD card into my Kit Kat 600. I don't know how to get data to it. I tried my file manager (ES File Explorer) but it tells me I can't copy to the card because of operating system limits. (I am trying to download videos etc from both Dropbox and Google drive). I thought it was only data created by apps that could not have a "save" directory on the external. What good is the card ?! I am clearly missing something here.
- I will not root yet. Any other help from you folks?
p.s. I can "see" the card with some system files on it.
Are you rooted?

No. Not rooted. I would like to avoid rooting for a while.
It's a work around not a true fix. http://youtu.be/tJHhrJfrYJw
We were on our first vacation with our 2 year old and I took a day's worth of photos and at least an hour or two or video. I didn't realize the HTC camera app was saving to the internal SD and I hit my limit. I thought it was as clear as using Root Explorer to move the entire DCIM folder from the "storage" folder to the "sdcard" folder under the funny looking numbered folder that eventually points to the SD. In the process, it asked if I wanted to replace the target DCIM folder, and I thought sure, why not?
Now, my internal storage is barren and my SD card does not show the images I attempted to move... I'm in shock and sadness and currently trying to run FonePaw on the internal storage to see if It can recover anything. So far, it's found only the stuff I deleted months ago. There is the possibility while manipulating folders that I overwrote SD to internal somehow but I'm not sure how that might have happened.
I'm reluctant to install anything such as DiskDigger or Undelete Recover to the phone as that might overwrite more of what I'm trying to recover. Does anyone have any idea what I could have done and how I might get out of this mess? *sigh* MANY many thanks in advance to anyone that might be able to help out. I'm in such a state of sadness at the moment *double sigh*
