I have an alarm app that can play music files stored on the phone.
In my old HTC EVO, I knew that Google Music was stored in a directory (something like android/data/com.google.android.music) but when I go to that directory on my new GNex, it's empty. I'm using ES File explorer to search for music, but can't seem to find any.
I am unrooted and very stock.
Q: which directory does Google Play Music store music in?
It's in a different location now

Yea, it used to be /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music but they moved it. Try looking in /data/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music
The downside is that all of your mp3s are numbered and not very easy to differentiate when browsing. Not such a big deal if you just want random plays from your offline music or only have a couple available offline but, it definitely sucks if you have a specific song in mind out of 25K offline songs.
Hope this helps!

I knew about the numbered mp3 issue. Just a random shuffle in the morning is usually good enough to get me out of bed.
I looked and didn't find
/data/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music
It just went to: /data - then "Empty folder"

I'm using ES File Manager. In the settings, I have "show hidden files." Is it possible it shows up as "empty folder" because I'm not rooted?
Try /data/user/com.google.android.music/cache/music. That's where mine is at least.
Use Offline Music Importer. It's an app, by Sapien...
Yes, Music importer works great

I think you might be in the internal memory or the sd card, still. You need to go all the way back to root. I haven't played around with ES File Manager but it is fairly easy to do in Solid Explorer. Just search Solid Explorer Beta2 by Krzysztof Głodowski in Google Play and you should find it.
Once you are in root, your data folder should have a lot more folders inside.

I downloaded Solid Explorer and tried to go to root /data. "Cannot browse to /data . An unknown error occurred."
As mentioned above - could this be because my device is not rooted?
Meanwhile, I think I'll try that Offline Music Importer.
Thanks for the help, folks.
Actually, Offline Music Importer can detect I have Google Music installed, but can't find any files. I know that there is offline music on my device, because I have clicked on the "on device only" button and I can see the songs.
I think you need to be rooted. not sure about apps that copy them for you like offline music or cloud sniper.

Yes, sorry, I should have mentioned that your device will need to be rooted in order to access it. I'm not sure of any other way to get to this location, sorry.
so I formatted my SD card and synced all my music to it again on my GS3. Most of the songs are in the right places, but several of them still come up under "unknown artist," which ruins albums. I tried editing the info on my computer, to no avail on some songs. Kies is not any good either. What is a good way to get my music onto my SD card in my GS3 exactly as the songs are sorted in iTunes?

That information is read from the ID3 tags. There are a bunch of Windows programs available that can write tags for audio files. My personal favorite is Tag&Rename. Search it in Google (can't post links). It's not freeware, but I believe the free version is fully functional.
have u tried using something like this, very cool i might add.

Hi all,
I recently upgraded to ARHD 13.0, my PC is running Windoze XP.
I've just installed WMP 11. I have HTC Sync installed and up to date, why oh bloody why can't I see my HOX as external storage in My Computer?!
All I want to do is put a new album on my HOX, I've tried doing it through Recovery and Mounting/Unmounting my storage, the album transfers over but i can't see it in any of my music players.
Thanks,
T-L-H

Well it's stupid, c'mon HTC sort it out!
so what you're saying is, make a folder called Mobile, put my music folder in there, it'll still get it all okay from there and won't duplicate anything? I can do this with ES file explorer? (Meh I've got Astro Manager, that'll do)
---
I've even tried installing the MTP files direct from Microsoft, still only brings up the HTC Sync Manager installer when I plug in my HOX, what a joke.

Basically yes mate, I deleted the old folder afterwards and haven't had any duplicates as far as I can see

Xp is eleven years old now dude. You really think htc should be directing valuable resources to supporting something that old? Especially when we have been waiting so long for jb?

also think they have done away with usb storage full stop. not sure how this mtp works but should do if you have the drivers installed. there is an option in the sync manager to transfer documents (zip files etc) that is greyed out for me as the drivers arent installed, let it install the sync manager ans see what happens report back if poss and il have a go at installing the drivers

Well as a lot of PC users are still using XP I don't see why not!
Besides I got the MTP Drivers directly from Microsoft, so...

No.
I've now installed the MTP Drivers directly from Microsoft, Installed WMP 11 for those drivers, Installed the HTC Sync Drivers and nothing.
I've tried your method too exocetdj, I created a Mobil folder and placed my Music Folder in there in my SD Card Folder.
The Stock Music App wouldn't pick up on the new album. I did the transfers using Astro file Manager.

Hi Fellas,
I hope you don´t mind if I jump in here? It seems you might know a bit about a problem I´m having.
Basically I make playlists with Astro, then after connecting my HOX to my pc or laptop for transferring files, it empties the playlists I have?
Any thoughts?
BTW I have XP too! lol

It could be mate but not sure, have you tried doing the same with the stock music app for a workaround? I have restored playlists through titanium over several roms without any issues
Also you mentioned you are on xp, have you managed to get the MTP crap to work?

Afraid not mate, when I´m running WMP and I connect a device, I can't hit the cancel button quick enough, can´t stand it lol
If you want I could test something though?
As for the playlists, I think what is happening is, the media gets scanned when the phones storage is connected (All my music) it sees the locations empty and rewrites the playlist as such?
I haven´t rooted yet, does titanium need root for backing up?

Yep Titanium needs Root to work but its a pretty good tool to use, saves having to go through the hassle of setting up homescreen and downloading apps again after flashing new rom etc

Make sure you have USB debugging turned off on your device.
I hope that I can get this issue sorted soon!
There's loads of new music I want to put onto my HOX!
Sod it!
Screw this, I'm just going to upload my music collection to Google Play Music, when at work or home I can just stream it over the Wifi.
I'll keep a few of my fave albums on my handset so I can have those whenever.
Hi there,
I've gone through the forums extensively, can't seem to find any help with this. I'm running Paranoid Android. Everywhere I look, I'm told that I should be able to find my pinned music from Google Play Music at Android/data/com.google.android.music/cache, but after pinning albums, I cannot find them there (using Root Explorer and Astro). I'm trying to set this up to move these files to my external sd card using a script a found here, but I can't do that until I figure out exactly where my music is being downloaded to! Anyways, if anyone has run into this problem and figured out the answer, their help would be greatly appreciated.
This whole business of figuring out the play music stuff is really quite disappointing - it should be easier to do things like download the music to your external card.
Thanks

Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to stop it?
I keep getting random unknown music tracks appearing in my playlist and to make it worse they do not show up on my file explorer so I cannot delete them from there. Is there a way to delete music from within the walkman app itself?
Has nobody any ideas about this. 100 views of my post and no replies!

Check if you're missing some tracks you placed on the device, if so, then most likely they are the ones and need to be properly tagged with Artist, Title, Album name, etc. iTag is a quite good app to do so. If that's not it, I can't help you any further.
