Connecting to non-broadcast wifi - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to connect to a wifi network that isnt broadcasted but cant. I dont see any option that allows me to do this.
Ideas? Options?

It's under wireless settings, wifi, add wifi network. Put in the ssid, security setting, and the password and you should be good to go.

wifi buddy makes everything a bit easier.

wifi problems?

i'm trying to connect to my home network. It see's it and connects to it... but then straight after it connects to it it totally disconnects and the wifi is turned off... what could be the probelm?
Did the problem persist after soft-reset? If yes, did u install any profiles manager (like phoneAlarm etc. which u can switch wifi on specific time) or did u changed any wifi settings using advanced config/hdtweak/similar apps?
I have an issue with wifi where when i use my works wifi it connects and then should i check IP it clearly shows the works network, however...
when at home and connect to my home wifi it still says connected however when i check my network IP the browser is clearly using the t-mobile 3G internet.
It's baffling to say the least. I've tried closing browser, changing order i open connections etc but to no avail.
Any thoughts?

wifi forgets wep encryption

I noticed when im out of range of my home wifi, or turn it of then on, the TP2 forgets my wep encryprtion password and i must input it each time.
Anyone notice this?
anyway to make sure it always connects to the wifi i specify and keeps my encryption code so i dont have to keep inputing it?
EDIT - Problem appears to be connecting temporarily vs creating an access point account under settings:
My wifi issue has been solved.
"It seems that i was just doing a wifi search and connecting to my router.
Instead, you need to go into settings, then wifi settings, and CREATE an access point by inputing all your SSID data, wep key etc etc...
once it has this it stores it and whenever your in the area it auto connects as it should.
it seems that this was a user error on my part and not the TP2 error.
prior to this i was just searching for my router and connecting... the tp2 never actually saved it and each time i was out of range or turned phone off., i would have to search again.
inputing the info via wifi settings and NOT searching and connecting solved this problem"
i'm not getting this problem mate... i've got a few keys to different wireless networks and it all works seemlesley.
hmmm...
if im the only one, maybe ill delete all the info try again..
yup, got the problem here, it usually happens to me with new phones before i start installing other stuff, don't know which program though to install to really make it stick. Right now most of my settings are not sticking, they revert back to stock after a soft reset or after a few hours unattended. annoying as hell.
yep, me also. It's happened when I haven't used WiFi for a while -I think
what happens when you put in the key in the wireless tab.
hardpress wifi in the comm manager and choose wireless
then you get the "old" menu where all settings for a network have to be filled.
had the problem of forgetting first but when inserted through this way its gone.
vinciente
i don't have that problem on mine.
BTW, i use WAP not WEP. it may make different ???
My old Touch HD did the same thing, the pro2 on the same network though seems fine...

How did you create a new access point and enter SSID, wep etc. as I can only add a new wireless network in the configure wireless networks settings screen?

Start menu, settings, connections tab, wifi icon, "wireless networks" button, then "add new" should be listed on top of all the networks seen.
click "add new" then follow prompts to enter network name, encryption type, etc etc...

[Q] Wifi randomly disconnecting

An issue I am having is:
I will connect my phone to wifi it will connect fine and tell me I am connected.
I could then later on go into the market and try download something I will have wifi bars but the item will pause download. I then come back out to check if my wifi is still connected and it will say authenticating but doesnt change so I then turn the wifi off and back on. It connects again this time when I go back into the market to download something it works fine.
Anyone else have this issue?
Hey guys still having this issue where my wifi looks like its connected but when i go to settings->wireless&networks-> wifi status will say authenticating with wifi.
It only happens me in my house with my router which is a zyxel router doesn't seem to happen in my parents house.
Is there anything I can do to stop this as its really annoying?

Try changing the authentication type of your router's settings. And if you use MAC security for your wifi, you can disable it.

Well it depends on your router but generally it's under Wireless->Security settings. Mine is with WPA-Personal authentication and TKIP algorithm.
Ok just to update this I have resolved the issue of my zyxel router by changing the security type from wpa-psk to wep.
Wep isnt as secure as wpa-psk but it suites consoles and portable devices better. Since I have changed I havnt been disconnected from the wireless.
I would say that your router has a problem with wpa authentication, I wouldn't recommend a wep authentication. If your wifi signal can be detected from the road where you live I could hack into it in about 10min and many other people plus there a custom antennas that can be made to detect signals and get better range etc.
I recommend you get a better router, something from netgear or belkin would do the job to keep your wifi safe and use wpa+wpa2 together with tkip+aes encryption.

[Q] cant connect to hiden work wifi

hi
Does anyone know what i can do to connect to a hidden network at work?
it is secured by wep and hidden. My iphone sees it and connect no probs. it seem to be affecting htc phones onyl, no matter what the rom is.
i cannot access the access point at all to check anything
It is some HTC foul up. Neither my wife's Desire or my DHD will see my Netgear WLAN when SSID is hidden. All other devices are fine.
Uhh did you try to just add the network (manually enter SSID, encryption, password)? This should work with hidden WiFi networks too.
Oh and on a side note. Hiding WiFi networks is completely useless in terms of security. Every moron who can use Google & download the right tool will be able to find it.
Try changing security on your router from WPA2-PSK to WPA-PSK. With my TP Link TL-WR1043ND router that worked.
Had the same problem connecting to my University's Wi-Fi, thankfully they made a guide how to do it on androids. Try following the steps here but editing for your network.
When Wifi is hidden it's hidden so it wouldn't be picked up by a average person thus you need to enter information manually, same as on PC. Though hidden networks are really not that hidden lol they just don't broadcast the SSID.

Can't connect to B/G/N Mixed Wi-Fi network

I just got a new laptop and I was dissapointed in the Wi-Fi speed. I checked the settings of my router and I discovered it's because it was in network mode B/G only. So I enabled the option B/G/N mixed and my laptop finally reached the speeds I had hoped for. But now my phone can't access internet. It connects to the Wi-Fi, but the icon in the top stays grey and it doesn't get internet access. How to fix this?

I'm almost sure the wifi network at work is running on B/G/N and my maguro connects just fine, no problem using whatever.
At home I don't have N yet; still, check gsmarena, you'll see that it's supported. (http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_nexus_i9250-4219.php)
Check your router settings. Try to only enable N, not mixed.

Both N and mixed are not working. When I use DHCP it won't retrieve an IP-adress and when I enter a static IP-adress it will connect to the network , but it won't connect to internet.
