How can I make my text message a ringtone? The only thing it do is vibrate when I receive a text message.
Settings, sounds and display, notification sound, and while in the notification select menu push the volume up button to turn up the notify volume, you have it set to vibrate/off.

open up your text message, den click on menu---->settings-----> under recieve and sent, there's the notification sound, click that and change to whatever ring tones you would like. if you like to use a ring tone manager, use "tone picker" which can be downloaded thru the market.
Search Rings Extended if you want something that uses your own music...

I can't seem to get a notification sound for incoming text, only vibrates. I've tried setting ringtone after ringtone for notification sounds with no success, can anyone help?
I have changed the message notification settings (Handcent and Messages) numerous times without any luck. I use Handcent as the default.
Have you checked your profile setting? Like if you'r eon silent, it won't ring. Or if you're using another app that'll override it.
Yes, I'm on "normal" in the sound profile settings. The phone rings fine, I get my sound alerts for email, voicemail etc and it is all correct. Notification sounds for incoming text is the only sound not working correctly, only vibrates on incoming text.

Hello,
I've changed my default ringtone for all incoming calls with a louder old phone type ringer. I've never changed sms tones before.
Can I have specific sms tones for specific incoming sources? Eg. all friends on one tone and a special one for my office? None of the tones are loud enough for my environment and I do get a lot of texts from the office and for whatever reason they insist on texting emergency requests instead of calling me.
Thanks
Download Zedge from the market then download notification tones and after you download them and hit the set button in the app you have the option to set that tone for whatever you want.

You can hook your phone up to your computer and put any sound you want into the "Notifications" folder. Those will then show up when you go to select them.
You can assign different apps to ring differently, and assign specific contacts a ringtone. Not sure about groups, though...

Thanks - I've installed Zedge, I then went to my phone system options, sound, default notification. If I select zedge, it says there are no tones. Is there a place to load it on my phone from my computer? I don't need any katy perry songs, just a really loud ring or buzzer. I put a custom sound in my internal storage notifications folder - I'd like to make that the default sound for only one sender of texts, everything else could have the default sound.

So you're saying when you go into Settings > Sounds > Default notification, no matter what you set it to your incoming notification is different? Even with stock sounds?
Have you gone into Messaging > Settings > Choose ringtone, and select "Default ringtone" from the scrolling list. Does it change? It should play the sound when you touch it.

Yes- no matter what sound I choose even stock sounds - I get a double chime - kind of like ding dong. I'm using full stock Verizon GN. No rooting.
I can change the default ringtone for phone calls.
I did also reboot after changing the default and I still get the ding dong type sound which is not the sound I set for it. The sound it makes is Pollux for incoming SMS messages but I've tried to set it to several others such as even vega or proxima but it always makes the Pollux sound.
I'm going through
- settings
- Sound
- default notification
Is there some place else I should be going to to change the sms incoming text sound?
Hi,
Is there a way where the S3 would vibrate for any incoming notifications (mails, texts, etc.) while I'm texting someone instead of the usual notification tone? I had an Iphone before and it does this. I'm hoping the S3 can have this feature or an app can make this happen. It is very annoying to be in the middle of a text and hear the notification tones several times.
Thanks

I don't think we have a future where phone recognizes when you text and just vibrates. I think that you can only set it to vibrate only or vibrate & sound. I don't know about the app. It doesn't bother me so I haven't searched for it.

There is an "Alert on Call" option in the call setting. This is same as what I'm asking except I want it in the text setting.
The topic pretty much says it all. I get notification sounds for all notifications. I would like it to sound for only a text message on my s9. If I turn off the sounds in apps, does that also turn off the pull-down notifications? Don't want to lose that option. How? Thanks.
Choose "Silent" for the sound for notifications from settings Sound & Vibration, and change the message notification sound from the messages app itself

Hey guys
This is a simple bug that bothers me .
I have set a different notification tone for my messages and different for normal notification.
But what ever I do , I am hearing the same notification sound of normal notification not the sms notification, when messages arrive !
Any idea ?
Click on incoming messages in app settings, then go to advanced and change the tone.
