My Desire seems to want me to really celebrate my friends birthdays!
I am syncing my contacts and calendar items from my PC. This includes all my contacts birthdays. I am using Outlook (2007) but no Exchange.
In many cases, I have between 5 and 10 duplicated birthday items in the calendar for the same person. However, when I look on the PC, there is only 1.
Looking on the phone under Calendar>Menu>Settings>More>Calendars, there are 3 calendars listed - My Calendar (no idea what that is?), one called my name (which appears to contain the items I have added on the phone) and PC Sync. The PC Sync is the one which generates the multiple entries, because if I untick this, all the multiple entries disappear.
I suspect the problem is to do with a combination of syncing and multiple calendars (although to my knowledge I only have one calendar on the PC).
Debating just removing the lot and starting again! Not ideal!
Any thoughts on how to rectify this problem?
Noone else?
I take it noone else is seeing this problem?
If I scrap syncing to Outlook Calendar, does Desire <-> Google Calendar work ok?

I don't have exchange at all but have found the google calender to be excellent so far. If you want more specific options for an event, you get more on the web page than in the android options. However, it's synced fine and works very well so far for me.
I'm sure that it's a simple options issue being the reason you're getting loads of birthday entries but I don't know how to help on that.
What I do like about the google calender is that I can select which calenders I want to show on my phone and which I don't. Also I have a little call tracker app that posts all my calls and missed calls in a separate calender online... works great.
what's that tracker app called? Sounds useful - in app store?
Mark One: I use CallTrak, pretty good ...
and you might also want "SMS Backup", the same for SMS ...
Thanks - looks great. Dumb question (android noob) - how do you set it up to sync with another calendar. I have created a new calendar on the same google account but it doesn't show up as an option in CallTrak - I can only see my main calendar or UK Holidays.
Thanks, M1
No worries - I didn't leave enough time (like half an hour!) for the new Gmail calendar I created to sync with the phone.
Now working as it should. Thanks.
I'm having problems synching multiple Google calendars to my phone...
Under "My Calendars" in Google calendar (when viewing Calendar Settings via the desktop) I have my own named calendar. Under "Other Calendars" I have my wife's calendar, "Contacts' birthdays and Events", "UK Holidays" and I've just added a Google calendar called "England" which contains the upcomming World Cup Fixtures.
Everything in my original four calendars syncs fine - and if I use the "Create New Calendar" button to add another calendar under "My Calendars" that too appears on the phone, but try as I might I can do nothing to make the "England" calendar appear.
I actually had a similar problem just after getting the phone - but then it was with the "Contacts' birthdays and Events" calendar which I'd just added. It seems to me that whatever calendars are there when the phone first syncs will appear just fine, but if you add any extra "Other Calendars" they never show up.
I fixed the previous issue by doing a full system reset and starting over. That was fine then, because I'd had the phone less than a day, so hadn't set much up, but I don't want to keep doing this every time I want to add another calendar!
I found another discussion on the Google forums with a link to a solution that involved the following...
Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications
com.android.providers.calendar -> clear data
Forced a Calendar Sync and got all my Calendars
Trouble is, that was for a HTC hero, and there doesn't appear to be a com.android.providers.calendar app on the Desire!
I have tried...
Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications
Calendar storage -> Clear data
...That did clear everything and force a re-sync, but still the "England" calendar does not appear.
I've also checked it's not listed on the phone's calendar app under Calendars, and I've tried the "Add calendars" option there too, but that does nothing.
Has anyone got any ideas how I can resove this? I realise I could copy all the events from another calendar to my own one, but I'd rather be able to sync things automatically.
Thanks,
Matt
I've seen a few similar issues posted on various boards, without any concrete solutions, so I'm guessing it may well be affecting others too - although admittedly, it's probably not a major issue, as how often do people chop and change their calendars?
Would someone be prepared to try adding another calendar (via their Desktop) and seeing if they can see it on their Desire? (i.e. From Google Calendar, select Other Calendar's, Add, Browse Interesting Calendars, then pick one to try - you can always remove it later.)
I also tried...
Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications
Calendar -> Clear data
...but this didn't help either.
My only other thought was that perhaps I'd hit a limit on the number of calendars, but I'd be surprised if that was the case already?
If I go into the calendars option on the phone I see...
My Calendar
<My named calendar>
Contact's birthdays and events
UK Holidays
<Wife's calendar>
PC Sync
If this is an issue for other people too, then perhaps it could be added to the "Flaws & annoyances with the HTC Desire..." thread.
Any assistance appreciated.
Instead of clearing the calendars data, look for 'Calendar Storage' and clear the data for that, followed by a reboot.

My cousins calendar does not appear either.
Also, whats the difference between My Calendar, My Named Calendar and PC Sync?
Thanks Rusty, but I tried that the first time around with no luck.
Just to be sure, I just did so again and then immediately rebooted, but I still only get my original set of calendars back - no sign of the England world cup fixtures.

I think My Calendar is local to the phone (i.e. not synched to a Google account, so you won't see stuff in there if you look online), and <My Named Calendar> is the Google one.
PC Sync is presumably one used if your using HTC Sync or some other program to sync with a calendar stored locally on your own PC. (I don't use HTC Sync though, as I've no need for it.)
I've got 2 calendars showing on the phone, my one and the UK Holidays one I picked out from the interesting list a while ago.
Just tried adding Englands WC fixtures and it's not showing in the list, but working fine on the desktop. Forced it to sync up and it made no difference.
Thanks for trying this Rusty - it seems to confirm that this is an issue, and not just me...
As far as I can tell it seems to be a problem adding ANY additional calendars, as I also tried adding ones that had events today - just in case it was something to do with nothing being in the calendar for a few weeks ahead (as is the case with the World Cup Fixtures).
As mentioned in my original post, it looks like this problem may not be Desire specific, but it looks like we could do with a Desire specific solution/workaround, as the Hero one's not appropriate for us.
I may look into an alternative calendar app.
As far as I can see the built in one doesn't allow adding a new event and having it set to private?
It doesn't sync tasks either
I'm just worrying about having 3 different push connections (google for contacts, k-9 email for email and whatever calendar app for calendar) and its affect on battery life.
Had the same problem,it didnt sync right away, the next day it did though... weird.

I also read of possible delays syncing, and thought that may be the case here. I've had these extra calendar(s) on for several days now and despite reboots, clearing data and re-syncing, still nothing's appeared.
I'll keep an eye on mine for a couple of days and let you know it it appears.

Another issue I noticed was that events added before a certain date would not get synced. Simply opening an event on the pc and editing it, saving, then undoing the changes would get it synced. Luckily I only started using Google Calendar a couple months ago, so I didnt have that many events saved before this certain date and went through each one of them editing, saving then undoing the changes. Afterwards, all events synced ok.

I had a similar issue with some repeating events that began many months/years ago. In that case what I did was stop the repeating event then re-add them as new ones going forward. That wasn't such a pain as I only have about four of these for specific days, but at least there was an easy workaround!
A workaround for adding additional calendars that does not involve completely resetting everything on the phone would be nice.

Did you try to clear calendar storage to see if that fixes it?
Not sure if that did anything but while messing around I hit Menu > Add Calendars and they're all there available to sync.
My bad, first time android user is my excuse heh. Thanks

Are there any apps which will sync a non-HTC phone with Outlook. Note: This is not exchange, just a local copy of outlook, which is where my calendar and contacts are stored.
I do not wish to wash my contacts/calendar through GMAIL so I am wondering if an app exists.
I am currently on a HTC phone so I have access to HTC Sync which automatically sync's to a local copy of Outlook; something I suspect will not work if I move off of HTC.
Thanks!
that is a positively no
to an Exchange Server yes, to Office Outlook, no
you can install Outlook to Google Sync
Then Sync everything to your Gmail account
Odd
HTC gives that functionality for free with their phones, so it is clearly possible.
Would be a great app for a developer; no idea why it does not exist.

Probably because most people either sync it with Exchange or Google already. Tethered sync is a thing of the past.
With that said, nothing is stopping someone from developing it but I don't think that many people use that.
Email client should be synced with servers, not other clients. I never understand why people want to sync with outlook.

Ahhhhh but there is the issue. I am not seeking to sync an Email client.
I am seeing to sync a pim.
In other words, my calendar and contacts are all in outlook, and HTC phones come with a program to sync contacts and calendar with outlook. I an looking for that functionality in an app.

[Q] SIMPLE Sync with Outlook?
I don't store my contacts online, only in Outlook and on my phone. I used to use HTC Sync with my Desire HD.... hows the hell do I do this simple thing on the Nexus!? Searching seems to bring up that I should install some crappy Google tools (that I don't want) to sync to the net.
I tries Kies, as it's a Samsung, but predictably it didn't work.

Run an Exchange server?
MyPhoneExplorer might work, if the client runs on ICS. http://www.fjsoft.at/en/home.php
Look for the client in the market.
Why not use Moxier? Search Android Market.
I only know Moxier Mail and that's an exchange client. Can one of the Moxier products really sync directly with Outlook via USB or bt?
Hi,
I currently use HTC Desire and Im order Galaxy Nexus. I have all my Contacts, Calendars in outlook and I synch them with HTC Sync application(Both way: Phone->PC & PC->Phone). I need same functionality on my new Galaxy Nexus.
1.) Is there some free application which can do this?
2.) It can be some plugin for outlook 2007/2010 which automatic sync with google when I make some changes on PC or when I press sync button on phone(I don't have enabled automatic sync). Do exist something like this?
If exist something like I searching can someone post link to PC app(For phone I don't want any application because it will use google contacts, calendar, notes...)
Thanks for any help.

Hi,
Thanks for your help.
Im already try "Google Apps Sync" few weeks ago when Im try sync Nexus S(Which Im have on test and Im return it) with google...
Im try it again now but I still have same problem:
When I install it it ask me for google account and password. I write both but return me error:
Google Apps Sync is not enabled for your email account. Please ask your domain administrator to enable it.
Im look search for solution and find few but I don't want link any domain to Google Apps.
Im also try "Google Calendar Sync" and it work normaly.
I don't want sharing my personal and bussines data to Google but because I don't have other option I will do that but sharing data to some 3rd company like funambol is not option.
So now I must find solution for Contacts.
I am in the same boat as the OP, Nokia does it with PC suite, HTC does it with HTC Sync, Samsung does it with KIES, I have a Nexus one and have not been able to sync outlook with the nexus or outlook with Google, I Keep getting errors, my HTC Desire Z I just plug the cable to the phone and laptop it connects syncs everything is fine, all I want is to sync Contacts and Calendar, the only solution I found to sync with the Nexus one and it looks like I have to do the same with the Galaxy Nexus is to export Outlook files than import them with Google and sync from there, with contacts its no big problem once a week or month is fine but with Calendar to do this daily and sometimes a few times daily as schedule changes its a pain, why Google or any develop has never thought of making an app for easy sync is beyond me, if HTC Samsung Nokia and Apple can do it why not Google ?

Wait, you update your calendar several times a day and you want to manually sync it each time by connecting the phone to a computer? Even with things like HTC Sync that does it quickly, that doesn't sound like a good idea...
This is why Android supports Exchange ActiveSync, so Microsoft products users can get instant updates on their Android handsets. Users who need to manually sync their Microsoft products offline is such a corner case, I doubt they will ever provide a good solution for it. That was something that made sense back in the Pocket PC days when phone and PDA were separate things. But it doesn't make much sense in today's world of smartphones. What you need to do is just run an Exchange server.

I'm not sure if they support android 4.0 yet, but I have used it to sync palm desktop to android, outlook to android, and everything else in between. It isn't free, but if you really only need to do it once, you get a 14 day trial.

For calendar try "Google Calendar Sync" and set it both way and 120 minutes. It will sync outlook to google calendar every 120minutes. then you just click sync(if you don't have enabled auto sync) on phone and phone will sync calendar automaticly...
Only issue for me now is Contacts. Currently I have on Desire contacts synced by outlook and linked them to facebook that I have people images does Nexus support linking contacts?
Im long time ago try CompanionLink to sync contact's to HTC TyTn II with Android(If I remember right version 1.6) and it is fu*** all my contacts in outlook(remove international calling codes and some other things)... Also Im need to install some application on phone and sync take loooooong(It is pack all contacts, calendars on phone and transfer them by usb to pc, then pc analyze data and send back updates)...
If Im right this app from CompanionLink will be right for us:
http://www.companionlink.com/google/outlook/
All we need is sync Outlook to google. But this app cost 50USD. This is to much. Im spend €644 EUR(£530.27 GBP) for phone and now I must buy app to sync contacts? No way Cheaper HTC Desire(It cost £407 GPB) more than one and half year ago have Sync functionality with outlook included...

yes I do sync calendar a few times a day, not every day but few days a week I have to do it, (busy schedule with many people with to many bloody meetings lol) yes I do have a cable to sync like the old days of pocket PC (am I that old ?) Question ...
I thought of a possible solution but would love confirmation.
For purposes of at least a one time transition of the data from outlook (contacts / calendar) to GMAIL which would then be used on the Nexus, is there a way I can use my Droid Incredible as the middleman?
Since the data is already in the Incredible, is there a way to push it onto GMAIL, and then have the Nexus (if it ever comes out, and I don't get the Rezound instead of waiting for inifinity) pick it up?
Thanks
Hi there,
I'm using the CalDav app from the market in order to sync with my server, because the standard exchange implementation on the one x does not allow to sync multiple exchange servers from one account.
Ive also been using CalDav on my Galaxy S2 and everything worked as expected. Now with the One X I have nothing but trouble. I installed CalDav and configured it. My calendars were recognized and the appointments were synced from the server to the phone.
However when I add an appointment on the One X it won't get synced to the server, although the two sync mode is enabled.
That's the first bug which makes me think that I never should have bought a HTC device again.
Ok, apart from that. The HTC calendar does not allow to edit the calendar afterwards. Let's say I add an appointment to my "WORK" calendar. Then I realize that the appointment belongs to the "PRIVATE" calendar. So I click on edit and normally you should be able to change the calendar by clicking on the calender in the upper left corner. However on the One X nothing happens there.
So, you have to delete the appointment and make a new one, which I really dislike.
I've already installed the second update from HTC and such bugs are still there - I cannot believe it. I'm so angry I could cry
Do you have any idea about how to solve my problems?
Thanks a lot!
shared problems are half problems: I have the same frustration leaving WMo
Update my HOX to 4.1.1 two weeks ago. Found out one strange issue related to Exchange Activesync Calendar
If setup an all day event of D day (one PC with Outlook or on HOX), Although the event will show up correctly in the stock Calendar App (at the top column of day view, as 1st attached picture), but if you tap it and enter the detail view, the event will show up as from D day 0:00 to D+1 day 0:00. <--as "Test Exchange in attached picture"
Setup a All day event in Google Calendar will have no this problem. When tap and enter the detail view of event, it will still show as "All Day" (as "Test Google" in attached picture", instead of "D day 0:00 to D+1 day 0:00"
This problem will make Calendar related APPs behave strangely. Like Smooth Calendar will show this "All Day" event whole day, even it was setup to hide the "All day" from SC's view.
Anyone has same issue or a solution?
It's confirmed that it's not happened before upgrade to 4.1.1, my other phone (Desire) with Gingerbread has no this problem when sync to same Exchange server, neither.
Thanks!

Probably just the way the two companies handle their calendars.
Outlook may be based on time.
Whereas Google may look at them as days, unless a time is stated.

Thanks for the reply. However, before update to 41.1, everything is okay... All day event is represented same for both Exchange and Google...
Since it's broken through the system (different calendar app shows same result), I suspect it's in the underlying Activesync code in 4.1.1, not just the problem of Calendar app.

Is there any update on this? I've got exactly the same problem with some all day entries (typically birthdays or anniversaries) appearing as starting at 23:00 on the correct day and running until 23:00 on the following day. Phone was updated to JB a few months ago and I only added the Active sync account on Monday. It is definitely an Android based problem as other devices (iPad, BlackBerry) work fine.
Waiting in antici.................................pation of an update.
I have the same issue with HTC One and Asus Infiniti tab The only thing that seems to help for now is to open every such recurring all-day event in Outlook, open the series properties, change the event hours from 00:00-00:00 to 00:00-23:59 (duration 2879 mins), save it. Wait for the phone to sync, open the event in Outlook once again and change the event hours back from 00:00-23:59 to 00:00-00:00 (duration 1 day). Wait for the phone to sync, everything is OK then. Little tiresome workaround, but at least it works. What is interesting it is definitely Android issue, because all my devices with Android 4.1+ have the same issue. I think it is somehow related to time zone issues. The other trick is to remove problematic event and create it directly from the phone's calendar app.
