Super user keeps force closing - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every once in a while, a triangle with an exclamation point shows up in the notification. I click on it, and I think its a su window opens, and it says
"android system
The listed applications are requesting permission to access the sid login credentials for (my account) from google. Do you wish to grant this permission?"
Then I can either allow or deny. Pressing either one results in a force close, and my home screen reloads. The triangle is still in the notification bar.
I'm pretty sure I'm fully rooted, and have nand. I used part of toasts method for partial root and thebiles guide for full root and nand. I've bEen able to create nand backups. I have clockwork recovery, and the rooted stock supersonic rom.
So what's the problem?

htc.launcher constantly crashes = phone useless

HTC desire, rooted, rom: payes 2.1 sense rom. used it for 5-6 months now with success.
previous to reboot: updated 4 apps (ES task mng, ES file exp, google transl, keepasdroid). network(edge) stopped working properly, so I though maybe a reboot would fix it.
after reboot:
"The application HTC Sense (process com.htc.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try agin [button: Force close]"
only thing I can do is click force close, which just brings the message up again.. essentially I can't do a thing.
I can boot into recovery. I know how to use some adb commands (no expert, but can read write-ups and do it).
Help!! what to do?
edit:
* I can access power off (so taking battery is not nessesary - event though I'v done that too)
* after updating the apps above, I used the phone many hours. so networking hang hasn't anything to do with that I think. but those updates might be causing problems at boot??
* I'v tried taking out memory card - but same result
ok, should have done a search before I posted.
found a solution at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723218
"If you are locked up in a loop where HTC Sense acts up and starts to force close, use the search key and type the first few letters for "Applications". You should be able to access the Applications settings menu. Go into "Manage applications". Go into "HTC Sense" and tap "Clear data". This will erase all your Scenes but it's better than doing a hard reset."

[Q] super user problem

Dears;
I rooted my phone, and as a first thing I installed Titanium back up that have been granted of root access.
I set under the application menu "allow unknow sources", and I also activated the dubug mode under the "development" tab.
Now i cannot access superuser app anymore as everytime i try "superuser stops unexpectedly"..
I then went on menu-application-manage-and on superuser I cleaned the data.
Once done that I can access superuser menu again (that of course is empty as I cleaned teh data), but as I start titanium (and it gets root access) I cannot access anymore the superuser app!
How can I fix this?
Any idea?
SOLVED
guys..
I figured it out..in the case anybody would have the same issue the solution is easy..go in superuser and under settings update the "SU Binary"..once updated the problem will not pop up again.
in the case you cannot open superuser as keep getting " unexpectedly stopped" go into Application in your phone menu, choose "superuser" and select " clear data"..once cleared you can access superuser again and do what above described..
Cheers
Update didn't work for me, what i did is update superuser from market then update su.

Sky Go workaround for HTC One X

Not sure if this common knowledge but I have managed to get Sky Go to install from the market and run on my HOX. So just thought I'd share.
DISCLAIMER:
I have used this workaround and it works on my rooted HTC One X with custom Viper ROM version 1.0.1. It should work on other ROMs but I cannot guarantee this on any device other than my own and therefore cannot accept any responsibility for any damage you cause to your device when applying this workaround. So do so at your own risk and if in doubt backup your ROM first!
You will need:
Device Spoofer - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.scheffsblend.devicespoof (unfortunately it's a paid app)
Temporary SU Remover - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mmiillkkaa.tempsuremove
Root Check Basic (Optional) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck
Run "Device Spoofer" and select "BACKUP DEVICE INFO".
Select the drop down menu that is filled with "EndeavorU" and select "HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715E".
Select "Spoof Device".
Reboot.
Run "Temporary SU Remover".
Select "Backup from system/xbin/su".
Optional: if you downloaded "Root Check Basic" run it and it should report your device as an HTC Sensation XE and if you select "Verify Root Access" it should inform you don't have root access (Dont worry this is easily restored with the "Temporary SU Remover" app) which are the two things we want to trick the "Play Store" and "Sky Go" app into thinking we have a supported unrooted Sensation XE.
Now go to "Play Store" and search for "Sky Go" which should now appear and be downloadable. So go ahead, download and install it.
Run "Sky Go", sign in and watch.
To re-root your phone and unspoof the device ID.
Run "Temporary SU Remover" and select "Restore to /system/xbin/su".
Run "Device Spoofer" and select "Restore Device Info".
Reboot.
You can now check the phone status with "Root Check Basic".
REMEMBER YOU MUST SPOOF AND TEMPORARILY UNROOT EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO WATCH SKY ON SKY GO.
Thanks for this information, will test it out now and report back on if it works for me. If it does, oh sweet joy.
Update Well I've tried this but sadly I still get the error message about not being capable of being used on a rooted phone although root checker is telling me that I don't have root access. I am guessing it's because of the ROM that i'm using, but this is a good point to start from, wonder if that older sky app that worked on rooted devices would work with this?
Please can you retry this time using app voodoo ota rootkeeper it's frew from.play if it works with that I'll root my hox
From what I've gathered Sky has spent alot of money beefing up the security on the newer version of this app to ensure that it doesn't run on any rooted device. Check any of the various "newer" threads about Skygo and you'll see that it's stated that it is pretty much (until someone really has a good go at it) un-hackable in it's current state.

[Q] Reset screen lock code - no wipe

Hello,
I was given a Galaxy Wonder to repair, the problem is the kid who's phone it is, forgot the lock screen password/code nor did he have a google account on the device. And the best part, is he want's the data!
I would backup and flash the device, but adb commands requiring root privileges won't work directly - it complains that "adbd cannot run as root in production builds"...
I got ADB up and running and installed "su" (root privileges in shell).
I've tried many suggestions with changing and deleting entries in the "data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db" file on the device.
There are no more references left in the "system" or "secure" tables to any kind of "locking". According to many posts the lock screen should not be present after reboot or it should be anything random (or nothing).
Also, I've deleted the gesture and password files from /data/system/...
Nothing has worked to remove the screen lock. Please help.

Solved! Battery Drain On Note 2 after 4.3 update.

Alright folks, I think I have finally managed to solve the battery drain problem after the 4.3 update, thank God!
The bad news is that it cannot be done without your phone being rooted. So root the phone in the following manner: 1) Install "Kingo Android Root" to you PC. It will not root your phone without following the other steps.
2) Install "System App Remover" (the one by Jumobile) from play store. The app will be installed as a different name, as "Uninstall". I tried "All-in-One Toolbox" too but it coudn't find all the files listed below (namely KLMS Agent). So I had to install this one and try again.
2.1) Install "Root Checker Basic" from play store.
3) Go to Menu>Settings>More>App Manager>All and force stop the apps:
com.sec.enterprise.knox.attestation
com.sec.knox.eventsmanager
Security policy updates
KNOX
KNOX -- (Yes we have two of them! One is to install Knox interface other one is the one that is already running without installing the other one.)
Knox Notification Manager
KNOX Store
KLMS Agent
In total we have 8 files (or actually apps) to close. You may have 7 of them if you don't have Security Principle Update.
Some of these will not gonna allow you to force stop, never mind, just close the ones that you can.
4) (Now you have to be quick because somehow these apps restart themselves.) Connect your phone to your PC and run Kingo and click root then follow the instructions on your pc screen. Your note 2 will restart and will be rooted.
5) Disconnect your phone.
6) Run "Root Checker Basic" and click "verify root access" and see if you are rooted now. (You should be rooted.)
7) Install "SuperSU" from play store.
8) Run "uninstall" (which we obtain by installing "System App Remover" (the one by Jumobile)). SuperSU will ask for root permission for uninstall, approve it. Uninstall will provide you a list, choose all the apps listed above and uninstall them. KLMS Agent will not be in the list and you should use the search option of the app. If for any reason you don't see any other app in the list search and uninstall! YOU SHOULD DELETE ALL 8 FILES!
9) Restart your phone.
After you remove all the Knox bloatware and anything else you don't like, install Lucky Patcher.
This is usually used to remove licenses from pirated apps, But it also does something else which we will need to use:
It removes Google ads! And these are that keep our phones awake.
In the faulty 4.3 Samsung update apps with Google Ads always try to connect and sync thus keeping the phone awake.
In Lucky Patcher go into each app individually and choose "Remove Google ads".
Then choose "Patch to remove Google ads" and press "Apply". Rarely will you have 100% success but it doesn't matter.
Then repeat the process and this time press "Disable Ads Activities" and press each activity that is used for advertising (They are usually in orange colour).
One more useful step is to use Greenify to hibernate almost all processes except the ones that need to sync eg Dropbox.
My phone used to have 65-85 % wake time after the update. Now it's only 3% wakelock instead of the 65-85% that was before and the battery only went down to 98% from 100% in 2.5 hours! Battery life is even better than on 4.1.2.
If for some reason after a few days (or even hours) the problem returns, then it could well be an app that causes it, or a combination of apps. In my case it was Automatic Call Recorder by App.liqato (Appstar Solutions). an app that was working fine on 4.1.2 but not on 4.3. It was the last app to be installed, that's why I knew. I uninstalled it and batery life is back to normal after it had gone mad for a couple of hours. Notice that no wakelock app showed it as the culprit. I only knew because after I had done a factory reset I installed all my apps one by one and not from a backup and I forgot this one. I remembered a few days later and when I installed it the drain started.
