Thanks alot going to try this later tonight Which ROM you using btw?

I spent two hours last night using both googles drivers and the drivers from HTC sync to no avail can ADB / Fastboot but doesn't recognise phone when in recovery so can't complete the root.

Zero problems on windows x64 7 ultimate, works fine.

I just installed HTC Sync (maybe Reboot needed)? Phone had no problems with it afterwards.
Just make sure you don't plug your phone into a front panel or something similar - try to avoid this. Plug it in on the back if possible.
And I'm using Amer Bravox V4.1 - really nice ROM imho, everything you need is included. Waiting for a good 2.2 ROM, the ones available are still too buggy for me.

Do you have HTC Sync, and the SDK installed?
Also once you complete step 1 of the rooting process you should now not need to use a PC. What rooting method were you using?
Edit: To the OP, just to confirm what others have said. I've rooted with no problems on Win7 64bit.

How to Unroot/go back to STOCK after installing Rooted versions of 1.47/2.05

Pretty sure most people know how to do this but for some who are having issues with drivers n such this might help, wouldn't hurt imo.. I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate (x86)
*** Reportedly Will not work with Official OTA 1.47/2.05 Updates, only Rooted updates, I have not personally tried. The Wizards @ the dev forums are working on a fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714157 ***
The steps below worked for me. I had the latest clockwork recovery,Damage Control DC 3.2.2.1 deodexed and The latest rooted ota updates installed (EVO_1.47.651.1_De-odex'd_Rooted.zip, 2.05.00.06.10 update.zip)
Download and install HTC Sync Update http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/ (if you already have it installed then click the repair option,
or better yet uninstall your current one even if it is the same one, reboot your computer and then install this one again, for good measure.)
1. I unplugged/plugged my phone into the computer a couple times, switched to htc sync mode when it asks what type of usb connection I wanted, to install more driver updates if any
and did 2 reboots on my computer to get all the drivers updated/installed and working as they should.
2. Turn off the phone, hold volume down and hold down power button to get to bootloader,
pressed Power button one more time to get to the menu where you can reboot bootloader,
rebooted bootloader once and twice BEFORE the unrooting process for good measure.
3. Download either one of the RUU Stock Roms, I would try RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253.exe and then RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_release_CL195459.exe if the first one fails.
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/
Alternate Link http://tinyurl.com/2fq4dzk
4. Plug your phone into your computer, make sure ALL Drivers installed properly if any, you may already have drivers installed, but double check, switch to HTC Sync mode
and let it install any drivers, then turn off your phone and start it in bootloader (Hold Volume Down +Power button) Reboot your computer also
to make sure everything has been properly installed.
5. Then you can finally double click (right click run as admin imo) the RUU.exe and start the unrooting process, good luck!
I try it and it don't work. I mean yet it detect my ota version but after I click update than for a while it said that my phone is not plug from the computer. I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64bit, eva x58 core i7-920
Thanks for the write-up, does this take the phone completely back to out-of-the-box stock?

Make sure your in HTC Sync mode or Disk Drive Mode on your phone, also try rebooting your computer & phone, plugging your phone into a different usb port, etc, have to tinker with it a bit.

do you have to have either 1.47 or 2.05 to use this method, or will the rooted supersonic 1.32.651.1 be able to do it?
because I installed htc sync, set the phone to HTC Sync, but the phone says it cant find it on my computer.

Yes it will work for that version, you only set HTC Sync mode up to install any missing drivers, then you switch back to disk drive mode if you want your computer to gain access to your phones SD card.

Thanks for the write-up it worked just like planned. And with so many people returning for some reason or another this is just what we need
Im returning one and buying another at bestbuy HEHE
so will this return the Evo to shipped stock rom IF i did the OTA update? and will i be able to root if i have the OTA update?
thanks
I had the .6 stock(not root)and OTA updated to 1.47,how can I go back to .6 stock,I ran the .6 RUU,but it said main version older and refused to downgrade, anyone knows how do I reload the .6 back?my EVO ever rooted.
As far as I've been able to find by SEARCHING the forums:
NO
Once you do the OTA update you can NOT go back or downgrade or uninstall it or whatever.
This method posted is for installing a ROOTED ota update. ie, it was hacked, and rooted prior to being installed. If you downloaded it from sprint on your phone and installed it, your are SOL for now.

Also tried multiple USB ports.

Thanks but sadly I've been through all the steps mentioned in all those links.
My USB is fine as I have been using it without issue.
I definitely cannot flash the .1 or .6 RUU.
I tried liquid jesus's method and it would not go either.
I'm stumped
Have u tried to flash the ruu as a zip?

Hi
recently, i decided it was time to wipe my computer clean and do a fresh install (you know, its like flashing roms, sometimes fresh is better) so i reinstall win 7 ultimate x64 and for the life of me, i cannot get adb to recognize my g2 with cm7 rc1... ive searched through several threads on installing the proper drivers, installed the most recent version of htc sync, latest android sdk, and nothing... its not such a big deal, but i would like to flash to the final of cm 7, but i dont like a lot of the fluff in cm7 (adw, etc) and find it easier to remove and change things around through adb.
thanks in advance
Did you use the installer to install the android sdk? I had issues as well with that one. Removed it and just extracted the .zip package, after that it worked fine.
This REALLY is a tricky one. In the past I've had luck installing both the HTC sync software, and PDANet. Between those two all the drivers seem to work for me in Win 7 64bit.
Why not just use a file manager like 7zip to remove/add the things you want prior to flashing. Or do you just like doing things the hard way?

Unless it's specifically a problem with Ultimate, there's no reason it won't work. I run Win 7 Home Premium x64 at home and the steps I said work for me.
I run 7 ultimate 64bit and adb works fine for me.
I used the pdanet drivers.
Flash with rom manager and then install zip from card..the adwmod zip that is..take it out for you

You could try another usb cord, and make sure everything is installed under admin, and the way I got my drivers I edit the driver file and added the info for G2 (saw it in tmobile forum) and also I have no problem with win 7 x64 aswell... and I agree I don't like all the extra puff and bluff oin cm7
well, i havent been able to get a wired adb to connect, but i have gotten it to work with wirelessadb and i am now rockin a modified cm 7 final

Rooting problem with UnRevoked...

Hey guys i need help with rooting me Incredible... Im using unrevoked 3.32 but after my phone reboots i get a "Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. yes. i have all of the drivers installed. i dont know why this is giving me so much trouble though. when i was with AT&T i had the Aria and i used unrevoked the 1st time with no problems but now its just pissin me off... lol
You either have bad drivers or your usb cord is faulty.
Make sure if you have HTC sync un install that .

The standard HTC drivers, or the modified HTC drivers from unrEVOked? And yeah, definitely dump Sync if you installed that.

i dont have anything installed other than the stock apps. i completely started from scratch to root.
Try a different USB port and/or cable. Also, If you're on a laptop make sure you're laptop is plugged in and you are using performance power settings. Kind of sounds like the port is going into sleep mode and the app can't pick it up because it sees the port shut off.

You have admin rights on the machine? When you download the Unrevoked exploit, unzip it and single click and right mouse button the executable, properties, unblock if blocked.
And, when running the unblocked executable, if Vista or Win7, right click and run as administrator.

My only suggestion is if you still aren't properly rooted, try running unrevoked on a Mac. I rooted my Inc using a friend's Mac as I did not have to install drivers and it worked well. Is this an option for you?
not really.i dont know anyone that has a mac.
I did root my girl's HTC Desire about a month ago, and I couldn't get Unrevoked to run at all, just stuck @ Waiting for device... I installed the modified USB drivers from Unrevoked before hand, and that didn't work. I also installed the HTC Sync drivers, and after I did that, things worked. I had to use a different tool to root her phone, but maybe this is the issue?
I have seen where you can install HTC Sync, then uninstall just the program and leave the drivers.
I am rooting my friend's DInc tonight after work, I'll make note of the steps I use (it's been awhile!), and post back.
EDIT: WOOHOO!!! SUCCESS!! I had to uninstall and reinstall HTC Sync then uninstall it again

[Q] Super-Frustrated Semi-Noob. Can't Root!

Greetings fellow GNex owners and enthusiasts!
I've been trying to root my Galaxy Nexus unsuccessfully for the past week.
Here's what I've done so far:
1. I Unlocked the bootloader as per Droid-Life's instructions using an old method with the cmd prompt. (The complete How-To guide on their website) I installed the SDK on a windows 7 64-bit machine and went ahead with the process. This worked fine.
(*Note: My Gnex is stuck on 4.0.2 and it won't pull an update. I've tried the method of clearing the data from the framework app and resetting the clock to 1969 multiple times without success. probably 10-15 times.)
2. Since that I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, rebooting, and then rebooting some more. I've tried every available "noob-proof" method out there and i can't get it to work.
Tried Galaxy Nexus Tooklit v5.6
With and without the included drivers. tons of reboots and re-tries. root always fails.
Wugfresh's Toolkit 1.3
with and without the included drivers. tons of reboots and re-tries. root always fails.
Manually pushing CWM Recovery and SU to the phone with cmd promt via other tutorials floating around the internet, etc. Pushing CWM Recovery fails. Can't even get the temporary flash going to install SU
NOTHING works.
Is it because I unlocked the bootloader manually using an older method first?? I'm pretty sure I've been following the various instructions with each method accurately.
Can someone shed some light on me? I don't necessarily want to mess with kernels and custom ROMs. I just want to be able to wirelessly tether like I could with my OG and D2.
Thanks in advance,
Thanassi
Check my sig and try my method?
Haha.
But I'm guessing driver error.
The simplest method for getting drivers is to download and install pdanet on your PC. Then simply try again.

I've had to root my phone 3 times and each time took 3 tries before it took. As mentioned before also make sure your drivers are good. And su files.

Because you need to tell Windows, that it should NOT always search Windows Update, for drivers. They're mostly crap, to be as nice, as I can...

Yes. You don't need the SDK, as a matter of fact
The Rundll32 part, is a fact, when installing the drivers...
It has the following effect:
You have installed ADB drivers (no Rundll32). You are flashing away, and all of a sudden. BANG! Everything stoppen. Phone's bricked... Why? Windows thought it is being smart, and installed new drivers, whilst you were working. However, with the RunDll32 command, you can tell Windows, that YOU want to install the drivers manually, and check manually. Of course, you can turn this off, if you want. No prob. but I personally recommend leaving it off
It's saved many phones' lives ^^
so you are having trouble with the adb or fastboot drivers? is so i had this problem too and sometimes even have to reinstall those drivers after flashing a rom.
i had to manually install the drivers using device manager, just select the android device and go to update driver. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software" then pick "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" then choose Google in that list.

adb shows no devices

Hey guys,
I recently upgraded my ROM to AHRD 12.0, and I noticed this morning that adb stopped working...
I tried to reinstall HTC Sync and also updated the SDK, but no success..
The device's MTP is being seen by my OS (windows 7) and I am able to access the file system, and HTC Sync Manager actually works. Still - no ADB.
Any advices?

Try going under device manager and looking for your device and make sure it's ensbled. Also make sure you have usb debugging enabled on your phone. Finally try updating your phones usb drivers. If that doesn't work it may have something to do with the new ROM you installed.

That's really bizarre that fastboot works, and adb doesn't. Make sure you have the latest version of adb installed and see if that fixes it.

Did you have this problem with adb not working before you installed AHRD 12.0?
What's the condition of the cable?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
The cable is in excellent condition - no tears and such - and it works for everything else (charging, MTP file transfers, fastboot)...
I remember it took me a while to get 'adb shell' when I just started ROMing, but it eventually worked all the same. I installed AHRD 12.0 when it came out a few days ago, but it certianly worked beforehand.

Try reverting to a previous version off AHRD and see if your able to use adb or not on the earlier version of AHRD. If you are able to use adb on a previous version of the AHRD ROM, then it's likely that for whatever reason on AHRD 12.0 adb might not be working. You can also try going to the ROM thread and seeing if anybody has had similar problems.

If you have cwm, try adb while in recovery. Cwm supports basic adb commands. If it works there, it's not pc or cable problem but rom problem.
