Does anyone have a problem with their wifi locking up their xda iis? I have bought a linksys router and am getting frequent lockups when using wifi. I am using the shipped O2 rom, thanks
I have no problem at all with Netgear router. Try changing the connection speed setting in the router to the "b" mode only. Hopefully this can solve your problem.
No problems here either I'm afraid. I'm using a Draytek Vigor 2600VG at home and at work there are two of us with XDA IIs using a Linksys BEFDSR41W wireless router and no problems there either.
Sorry! :-(
Try a hard reset (gulp!) and see if you still have problems (Without anything else installed that might be inteferring) otherwise might be a faulty unit perhaps.

I second what xanth said, I had the problem where wifi would not turn on, so I hard reset and installed each software back individually the problem was Calligrapher 7.3 did not like being in Storage or Storage Card only in Main memory (go figure)

I use the XDA IIs on a variety of wireless networks and experience problems with an alarming regularity. The most annoying is the fact that the top bar seems to loose functionality, when using wireless!!
I will actually add that I do seem to have problem with the "range" of WiFi.
I need to do more testing, but it doesn't seem to be more than 20m or so before have communication issues/timing out :-( Will have to find out what our walls are made of!!!
I have problems connecting sometimes. I regularly use three routers, Draytek, Buffalo and Belkin. The only time that it locks up is when using skype. The skype problem is a known issue with no cure.

I am having a problem where my Siemens SX66 will loose connection to my Microsoft MN700 wireless AP on occasion. -It simply appears as if the Wifi radio shuts itself off.
Weird.....
Wifi has never worked for me. It simply doesn't work in the way nature intended.
The main problem (as far as I can tell) seems to be that it cannot get DNS or IP configuration settings from my router (Belkin 7630) automatically.
It can connect to my wireless network without any hassle, but that's about it. If I enter DNS and IP settings manually it works fine. But this is unworkable if you want to connect to another wireless network.
If I can't sort this out by next week I'm going to sell the unit on eBay. It's been nothing but a pain since I mistakenly bought it in December.
Wifi is a nightmare on this device! I'm going back to Nokia.
I am going to do a hard reset and test to see if i still get any freezes. Anyone know of any software i can use to backup my text messages?

Hi guys,
Haven't had too many issues with WiFi over here - standard O2 Asia ROM (with the BT 3500 update).
I'm running a Netgear WG602 @ home with 64bit WEP and a Dlink AP2100 @ work with WPA-PSK. No connectivity problems at either location, both DHCP. It does however take a few minutes to connect, but this is on the odd occasion.
The only frustrating thing with the WiFi is that I have to soft-reset often to turn Wi-Fi on - any ideas? Hopefully O2 will fix this in the next ROM. Other than that, I've had the Nokia 9500, P900/800 and this is by far the best device for the power user.
Just me 2c!
Cheers
cK
Wifi is on all the time on my device, sometimes when I switch the device on while within range of an AP it does not connect. Often switching wifi off and then onn again causes it to connect. If this does not work then I can often go into the network dialogue section, and see the network marked as 'availble' but not connected (why it sometimes does not auto connect I dont know). Tapping connect usually cures. If that does not work then I too need to soft reset.
I hope like you that they fix this cause its damned anoying. I will be interested to see what the Benq P50 is like when its released. I shall get one from expansys to test and ship it back within the 7 days.

As for those having problems with specific access points. It is not nessesarily the fault of the blue angel. It seems to me that none of the manufacturers of wireless kit understand the term 'standard' they all seem to have their own take on it, which is why kit from different manufacturers refuses to talk to each other. I am of the opinion that they do it in purpose to lock you into using their client cards with their AP's !!
Try it with some non Belkin kit and see what happens.
Nigel
Well i tried a hard reset and didnt install any apps and tried connecting to wifi again and still got a lockup and loss of connectivity. Im going to swap the router for another make and see what happens
Swapped my linksys router for a D-Link and so far no problems after 2 days. so looks like my problem was my router.

XDA IIi and wifi
I just bought one of these and can't get it connected. I have a netgear wg602 access point. When I finally figured out how to set the IP manually (the 02 xda tech support said it can't be done - maybe they're right ;-)
I now have it saying it's connected, with right IP address. My DNS and gateway are set up for the wireless adapter in network adapters. The signal is average. The XDA says wifi is connected. The access point even says it's authenticated and associated - same as my other stations.
Only problem is, internet explorer doesn't find any web pages - says "The page you are looking for cannot be found" (works fine through GPRS)
Also, terminal services times out trying to connect to an internal IP address (to eliminate DNS as a problem)
So, anyone know how I troubleshoot network problems - it looks like a TCP/IP issue? Can't find ping or arp etc. I've also tried an IP address that I know works on the network.
thanks for any help
Dave
Hi
For ping, ipconfig and stuff, head to http://www.cam.com/windowsce.html
I have had multiple issues trying to get wifi working reliably. It still fails now, but there are a few tricks to get it working again. Most of my wifi issues have been due to regular use of three AP's [email protected] and [email protected] along with GPRS and VPN.
To start with I suggest setting all the ****e in connections (internet and home network to 'My ISP' then goto your wifi setup, network adapters, and tell it that the wireless card connects to the internet. Now, tap ok, and goto tools, network cards, tap the active connection (it must already be connected) and ensure that its set to internet.
Next soft reset the thing, and wait for it to connect to yr wifi. Now, use the ipconfig tool and ping tool from the above site to check that all is OK. Check that its got the default gateway right and a sensible LAN IP.
I have found on occasion that I can be connected via wifi, but that the device is still trying to talk using an old IP allocated by gprs which means nothing to my lan! IPconfig will show if all is OK.
Whoever wrote the whole of the networking system (and its terrible gui's) on windows mobile wants shooting. I usually have 2 VPN profiles setup under my work network. If I leave it set to that, and use wifi from my lan to connect to the internet all is fine. However if I try and access a local server, the damned thing starts trying to connect a vpn (it aint inteligent enough to work out that the IP I asked it to connect to is local).
I have been trying to find a setting for all this networking rubbish that allows me to do *everything* without reconfiguring each time - to no avail.
Another thing to note is that you cant send/receive MMS messages while wifi is connected (more stupidity), it tries to connect to the MMS server using the wifi connection, and the telco blocks it cause it wants to charge you for sending MMS over GPRS. Only solution is to disconnect wifi, send MMS then reconnect wifi!!!
Nigel
No problems with WiFi for me
Hmm I'm using an O2 Asia Rom as well.. and my wifi manager seems to automatically create "settings" for each AP it detects and I seem to have no problems connecting at all... been using WiFi around my house since the first day i got it..
i am using a Linksys Wireless 802.11b router..
btw I am new here.. finally able to register!
How's everybody doing?
Cannot turn off IEEE 802.1x
Has anyone had problems unchecking the 'IEEE 802.1x netwrok access control' checkbox???
I uncheck it, but then when I go back to the screen (click on the connection | then select 802.1x tab at the bottom) it has checked itself again!
The XDA IIs does not save the setting - it just keeps re checking itself 02 help have been no use - they sent me an instruction manual and it even says in one of the step 'uncheck IEEE check box'
Im am using a netgear wirelesss router and have also tried on a d-link
Sugestions - is anyone else having this problem??
Guys,
I recently came across connectify app and installed it on my Windows 7 laptop. It installed just fine and created a WIFI Hotspot for me.
But when I try to connect to that WIFI Hotspot from my desire , it keeps saying "Obtaining IP Address from Connectify" and never connects. I am not sure what's wrong , something in my Desire or something with Connectify or if I need to fix some settings in my Win7 laptop ?
Can someone please advise.
FYI - Windows 7 is connected to a my workplace LAN and requires a proxy authentication if i need to access internet.
Thanks in advance;
Even I'm facing problems connecting to Connectify.
I suspect that IP address is not getting assigned since there are no DHCP servers running on the PC. That might be the first problem
Second thing is, even if I run a dhcp server (I'm yet to do it...) in my PC, I think the wifi and ethernet might be on the same or different network based on how the dhcp server is configured. But setting Default Gateway and DNS settings are whats getting me confused.
If I can find some Idle time, i can experiment and try it.. If anyone is already using it successfully, they can post on how to do it here.. will be very helpful.
My laptop is connected to my ADSL modem via ethernet cable, and I'm connecting the mobile to my Laptop's wifi (Via connectify which makes the WLAN in laptop appear as an Access point). This connectify should share the wired internet to my mobile via Wlan but i'm have not yet found how to set it up..
old post i know, but i wanted to chime in and let these people know that the latest beta fixes these problems. at least it now works for me on my eris

I have the same problem with Connectify 2.0.1.15550, what version are you using?
I found the 2.1 beta, all working now. Thanks.
I had the same problem with connectify and I sincerely suggest you to try Virtual Router. It's crappy but it works.
You can get it here:

Good luck!
I had the same issues and can confirm that virtual router works straight away!
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Turn off Windows Firewall...
... at least untill you get the IP.
About proxy, that's a whole other story. Still messing with Transproxy, but no success yet.
Hey. I tried Connectify put I got the 'obtaining IP address' problem.
So I tried Virtual Router ... but again I have having problems 'obtaining IP'.
I am trying to connect my Samsung Galaxy S to my Windows 7 Laptop.
Help me...
Thanks guys
bUmP
Connectify`s main usage is to share the wired broadband to the mobile using wifi in laptop as a hotspot. It should be fairly straightforward but needs to set some settings correctly. It would be great if someone for whom its working to post it setp-by-step. Will be really helpful.
And strangely there are no guides on the net on how to set it up exactly in wondows 7 and connectify homepage does not give any useful info.
I keep getting "obtaining IP address from..." on my Android device...
why is this?
Virtual Router or connectify don't work..
is it because android does not support Ad-Hoc?
I have running Froyo 2.2 though...
Any help?
Thanks
Hi,
I don't know if it's really the same problem here but I also had some issues with Windows 7, connectify and the devices I tried to connect.
After following the steps to create a wifi hotspot, I had to deactivate the windows firewall on the private networks (I specified to windows that the connectify network was a private network).
There should be a way to setup the correct permission in the firewall's permission table to make it work properly... Unfortunatly I haven't find it yet.
So it's a quick fix. Hope it will help you.
This will fix the Galaxy S's inability to connect / locate ad-hoc networks

You need this file for the Desire - search around XDA. You might have to download version 6 of the file.
When you download it, flash it from recovery.
Meanwhile, create an adhoc network on your laptop or wherever, configure the IP address (192.168.137.1 is the IP of the laptop - Windows, for some reason or another, doesn't like sharing on other IPs, though I haven't tried lately) and set your encryption to WEP.
Share your connection from LAN, and you're good to go. On the phone, the adhoc networks will be represented with an asterisk, like
(*)network
none of them work on win 7 64 bit - on win 7 32 bit I cen get IP, on 64 bit cant, whan assigned static IP by below at previous posts, I can connect, but internet does not work.

i came here from google as well. i had the obtaining ip address issue with connectify on win xp and zte blade with cyanogenmod (N142). thanks to this post, i solved the obtaining ip issue, and my phone managed to connect to connectify. apparently: my phone doesn't appear in clients tab in connectify, and my phone doesn't transfer any data traffic. so from the phone it looks like connected, but from connectify no.
edit: i found out that i succesfully connect to connectify with my smartphone only the first time i try (because it worked the very first time i used connectify and the first time i tried again after a complete reset of my phone). then, if i disconnect/reconnect, i find the "obtaining IP"/"no data traffic" issues. of course, resetting my phone each time i want to use my laptop's wifi isn't very handy..

same here, couldnt believe my luck when it worked first time with my HD2 and galaxy.

anyone throw some light on this???????
Hello folks,
since yesterday i have a strange Wifi Problem:
I'm running a WPA2 Wifi which runs perfectly till yesterday.
I was using it with the
desire for more then 2 weeks now.
I see myself "online" with the small Wifi Icon with full power wifi, i can ping and connect to other pc's and macs on my network but if i want to get to the outside behind my router, everything is dead.
I can see the connection request for google in my router for the desire, also i can see that the access is granted, but i get no answer. The router was not changed.
First i thought of a DNS Problem and pinged www google com (removed the dots because i am a new user) from a terminal.
No answer. I pinged the ip of www google com (removed the dots because i am a new user), still no answer.
On my PCs this worked.
i can ping anything in my network, even the router so this should not the problem, but when it gets outside the router no response.
I have searched the xda up and down and did't find something which could met my criteria.
I'm using Pays Rom 1.3 if someone want to ask.
I'm on static ip addresses and yes the desire and the router are on the same network and netmask
What did i change yesterday?
I switched to a new Simcard from the same provider. Had to type the login data for google and everything worked, i thought. Till i tried Wifi today.
If i use Edge there is no connection problem, but if i am at home i want to use wifi.
Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance!
Greetings da_druck
Problem Solved!
I tried different things like removing the wlan on my phone and adding it back up.
Adding a different dns-server, restarting the phone, etc.
This all doesn't solved the problem, and i thought it could be no problem with the router, as all the other pc's could connect to the net.
BUT i thought i should try to reboot the router itself, just to test everything and what shoud i say: Its working again. So it was no android problem.
Maybe the router was a bit upset for running for more then 6 weeks without reboot, i don't know. So this can be closed
Greetings

Hy. I bought my defy one week ago and I have noticed some inconsistencies with the WiFi function. I got it tot work on a public network in a restaurant on the first try. At home however everything seems so random : I got it to connect to WiFi 5-6 times eventhough I don't have a router but most of the times I get the : "connection detected" notification but no internet access ( when i select the network in the wifi settings it says the signal is excellent ).
My modem is a Huawei EchoLife HG520s, I am running windows 7 x32, my phone was not rooted and i didn't make a blur account.. that doesn't work either.
I would really appreciate your help.

You are getting wifi signal at home but do not have a router? You mean a wifi router? If that's the case maybe you are picking up wifi signals from someone else's router and you cannot connect because you need to sign on? If you are having trouble getting on your own router, could you tell us what it is etc.?
You didn't set up a Blur account? Or you did and it doesn't work? Where are you located? If you tried to set it up and couldn't it may be because some markets (I hear) do not support Blur. For instance, there are some models of Defy that do not have Blur and that's probably why.
Sorry i should have made it clearer: i have not bought any kind of router but the modem i use could have a wifi router incorporate(i don't know if it does i lost its documentation).
I live in a house with no nearby sources of wifi and both networks (the one i use to connect to the internet from my pc and the wifi i find if i scan wth my phone have the same name)
I live in Romania and everytime i try to set up a Blur account and click the start button it cancels.

Is there any way you can temporarily disable your modem's wifi security just so you can get on to see if that works? Make sure to turn it back on after, this is just to see if that's the cause of the trouble.
Also about setting up a Blur account - did you try that at home, or at an open Wifi area (eg. the restaurant)? If it doesn't work at home then I guess it's worth trying it at the restaurant or any other place where you can get the connection to work.
Well the network i get here at home is 'open' and i get a connection everytime.. just no internet access on my phone and the computer doesn't seem to recognise the connection (happen exactly he same even on the times i had internet access)

exactly what happened to me. is not a router's problem but a DNSes problem.
you must enter the router and disable the "automatic DHCP". enter in the settings of the phone, wifi, advanced DNS settings automatically if not found. and it work.
P.S. after this if you have problems with your computer, right click the connection, and then do "problem solving". good luck ...

the only problem is that I can't seem to find a router in my devices.. i have a internet modem that might have a wi-fi router incorporated
How does the computer connect to the modem if it uses USB i'm not too sure what you can do but if it uses ethernet what I recommend you do is click on start, and type in "cmd" when this loads type "ipconfig /all" this will then bring up all the details of your connection. What you are looking for is the default gateway, this will be the address of your router. With this add "http" and the default gateway number into a browser, you should then be able to get into the routers config and then you can follows powertony84's guide.
Well i'm pretty sure the network I connect to with my phone is mine because i just changed its security level to WEP using bobdigby advice. But I got lost afterward.

Any idea what channel i should use? i got a tip to chage the channel but i don't know into which one
I don't use any router but I turn my laptop, which supports wifi, into a wifi hotspot so that my defy can use wifi within my apartment. It's wonderful!
At some points in your life, one of your Android devices connect to a wifi router, but can't connect to the internet. However, your computer, laptop or iPad will connect to that same wifi and use the internet just fine. I've looked everywhere on the internet for solutions, some of them are:
+ Turn off and on both modem and wifi router
+ Factory reset wifi router
+ Battery pull your phone, wait 30s and put it back
+ Reflash stock or custom ROM
+ Change DHCP IP setting to Static
+ Disable security (WEP, WPA) on wifi router
+ Check DNS server, gateway IP address for correctness
Fortunately, I stumbled upon this old thread last night -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371794
It helped fix the internet connection temporarily, turning off and on wifi on phone caused the issue to repeat.
In summary, he found out the correct MAC address for gateway was mismatched with the one on his phone. Even though the gateway IP address is correct (example: default gateway IP 192.168.1.1)
Upon further investigations, I found out my Wifi ROUTER has the same IP address with my MODEM (192.168.1.1) This IP conflict causes the phone to recognized the WIFI ROUTER's MAC address as the gateway's MAC address. This problem mostly occurs on Android phone, not computer (I'm no tech savvy so I have no idea why)
Simple fix: Go to wifi router setting page, change the IP address on wifi router to different number (other than default 192.168.1.1), and the problem should be fixed.
Please help spread the words to fellow Android lovers, I'm sure a lot of us have struggled with this problem
I'm one guy who is desperately looking for a solution to this.
Unfortunately the solution you gave didn't work.
Hi
i have a problem with wifi. it remains connected but loses internet access randomly. i found this solution:
"In the wifi networks, select the network you want and select ‘Forget network’
Turn off the wifi
kill all the apps with your task manager
Turn on the wifi again
Connect to the network
Check the internet connectivity
If still the problem exist, switch off the phone and redo the above steps"
it solves the problem, but it happens again after some minutes. actually, i also installed an app named "wifi fixer" which does the above process automatically. when the program is active, it turns the wifi off and on every 2-3 minutes. and the phone has internet access when the program tuns the wifi on.
any idea?

2 years after the last reply I am having the same problem. My wife and kids all have internet access on their phones, tablets, desktop and laptops all from the same modem router yet I am unable to use the internet on my Galaxy S2 mobile phone even though my phone says connected to Wi-Fi Network Netgear 06.
The Mac address solution provided isn't applicable to my situation as my Mac address on my mobile is different to my modem router Mac address.
Any other solution?
