Extract cabs from cooked rom - Windows Mobile Software Development

Hi every one and thanks for sparing time to check my post
If someone could direct me on how can i extract a slider or staus bar from a rom as a cab file i would be thankfull.
I tried looking, but, no use i could not find the answer.
I tried oskitchen, but, it only opens original roms, but, when i try to open any cooked rom, it says " cannot extract from IMGFS "
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

When it says "Can't extract files or build packages from IMGFS structure. Please make sure the ROM is not corrupted, that it's an original ROM update released by the manufacturer and not an user-generated ROM." don't click OK and leave the messagebox open, go in the kitchen Temp folder and search for *.cab files to find them.

The slider is where you can find the icons for home, messages,, facebook, footprints, settings, etc ( the bottom bar where you slide your finger )
the top bar is where the the connection, volume and battery indicator is shown

The taskbar icons are replaced using custom bitmaps and resource dlls some of which set trough registry entries while the manila slider instead is replaced with _manila files so the only thing you can do is finding files by hand and it's actually pretty messy to get them out of a cooked ROM. You can find out some of the file names by taking some cab to customize the taskbar and the slider and converting them to OEM with CAB2OEM so you'll have the destination file names to search in the dump folder of the ROM.
Another trick I can suggest is to sort the files in the ROM dump by date (both creation and last modified) because usually those files are obtained from CABs converted with CAB2OEM and could potentially have similar dates if those have not been stripped by the kitchen.

Thank you for your help
Really appreciate your time replying to my post
I will work on the suggestion.
Best regards

[TUT] How to change the Internet Globe Icon

Hi all,
I have had a couple of questions on how to change the globe on the internet tab from the globe to a pic of your choosing.
I have attached the files you need. All you need to do is Create 2 png pictures that are 512x256 and name them the same as in the files.
Once you have done this copy them onto your device, turn off touchflo and drop them along with the mainla file into your windows directory using total commander (or similar) and restart touchflo and hey presto your very own internet icon.
Have fun
works great!!
I made a nice Opera logo, maybe someone likes to use it.
Can't find a good screen capture program, just try it.
You have to copy all three files to the windows directory using total commander or other.
EDIT: found screen capture program, so now included
very nice
Hope to see a few more of these on here. People have been looking but no one has replied.

Hi... I like your internet glob. Can you make it into a cab file? I am very bad at this so far so would be great.
Thanks in advance
Hi , sorry to trouble you but could you or anyone please upload the stock 'Internet tab Globe' icon for me ? My operator decided to use its own logo for the Launch Browser icon and it looks quite terrible
Thanks in advance

Unfortunately this does not work on my German O2 stock rom.
They probably use another manila file for selecting the image on the internet tab.
I have to investigate further...
Here try this Cab File.
I finally solved it, thanks to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2861249
I have to edit a file in \Application Data\Manila which holds the information about banner and operator links.
Thanks anyway for the information in this thread
BTW: You can add a property Text to the Banner node to display a heading under the banner icon
Many thanks to David. I've customised my Internet globe.
I 'emptied' the Youtube text as well as picture reference fields in your attached XML. So nothing shows. Hmm, now I am wondering how I can incorporate another program icon to be exact ...
remove the globe
Thanks for the tutorial, but to me the globe is useless, i would like to start at the tab with only my favorites and no globe at all; so is it possible to fully remove the globe?
I dont know. It might be possible but due to way TF3D uses the Mainla files you would have to modify it in such a way that it doesn't know there should be anything there and that it going waaay above my head.
It's not as simple as deleting the file you might actually have to change the more progamming but i'm sure someone could help

You just need to delete the "Banner" node (i.e. everything between and including "<Banner [...] />", without the quotes.).

Just played around and found I could remove youtube icon. All I did was to delete the everything within <OperatorLinks>.
Dear friend, after i have copied the 2 png pictures to the manila file, turn off and restart the TFL3D, the globe ico remain unchange. Would you give me more detail on how to fix it. By the way, there are two files named InternetPortal and InternetPortal-zh-CN, anything i need to do about that? thanks.

Nevermind, I did a bit more forum searching and found the right file to edit.
It is 27c65cbd_manila in \windows\ (for me anyway)

Rhodium start menu icons help

I'm using Dutty's 2.3 Xtreme ROM. The startmenu is based on the Rhodium roms (looks like the program tab, but with nicer icons ). However, the good-looking icons are only those that came with the rom, for example WMPlayer, settings, file explorer, etc. When you add a shortcut from lets say TomTom, it looks all crap with jagged edges. It's seems the iconholder upscales the icon or something so it's no longer at it's native resolution. I would like to be able to change the icon used for a certain shortcut myself to perhaps a higher resolution alternative.
It seems the used icon is controlled bij strings in HKLM\software\HTC\Manila. The string's name is the .exe used in the shortcut. It contains a file location to \windows\MPI_xxx.qct (\windows\MPI_wmplayer.qct, \windows\MPI_camera.qct, etc.). I know this, because when I change the path in lets say the wmplayer.exe string to that of the file explorer MPI file, the icon changes in the start menu. However, when I make a new string with a stringname for tomtom (tomtom navigator.exe) and make it's value the same as the fileexplorer, nothing happens...
So... help? I don't know what to try next due to my limited knowledge on the subject. Who can help me devise a way to use custom icons in the new startmenu?
You have to use the full path, not just the file name. Also, you have to use quotes.
For example: I wanted Resco File Explorer to use HTC's explorer icon, so I created a new string with the name:
"\Program Files\Resco Explorer\Explorer.exe" (quotes included)
And value:
\windows\MPI_fexplorer.qtc (no quotes here)

Yes... Thanks! Can I use it in WM 6.5? Just want to know because I dont want to do a hard reset when I fail.
I change my program icon directly in the program.exe file. this way both from startmenu and programs show the new icons. use resource hack to do it. you can also hack into the installation cab and change it there. so every time you change rom and reinstall, the new icon is there. just my way......need helpon that you can pm me

Are your iconbar icons in the same place as me ?
You've got a Dash, right? You should just be able to install the correct .cab file, then go into the Homescreen settings and choose the appropriate layout with the iconbar.
Which files are included in the .zip? I'm not sure which is the correct .cab for your phone...

Screen Fade When Slide (FIXED)

I use clear curtains and a clear glass slider, and it has always bugged me that when you move the slider, the screen fades everywhere but where the bottom curtain should be.... So I have come up with a fix....
In the zip file are manila files for Clear Top Curtain, Clear Bottom Curtain, Clear Glass Slider, plus my fade fix.
Installation instructions:
1. Turn TouchFLO 3D off (Settings/Today/Items)
2. Backup all *_manila files in \windows\ folder! You can skip this step, but don't complain afterwards!!
3. Copy all 4 *_manila files from "Nocky TF3D Fade Fix.zip" file to a temp location on your device such as Storage Card or My Documents
4. Use a file manager program like Resco Explorer or Total Commander to move the files from your temp location to the
device Windows folder (confirm overwrite of all files)
5. Turn TouchFlo 3D back on
6. Enjoy
Cheers....
Nocky
NOTE: THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO WORK ON SOME OF THE LATER VERSIONS OF MANILA.... PLEASE READ THREAD TO FOR MORE INFO AND ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR FILE BEFORE OVERWRITING WITH THIS ONE!!

Awesome! That always annoyed me as well... Does this also work with the new Manila? In landscape?
That has been bugging the hell out of me for a VERY long time! Nice find!
Is there any way of doing the reverse? So the screen doesn't fade at all?
Update: it does not work on manila v2 (Dutty 2.7 ROM).
Messes the screen, keeps Manila in constant halt etc. Had to delete 5c9aa261_manila and reboot TF3D to fix the issue.
Can you please explain what you did, I'd gladly try to solve this issue on newer Manila as well. Is it just a graphic hack, or requires editing the code as well?

That's exactly what I feared... Nocky, please tell us what you did!
Hey guys.... sorry, I'm new to this.... only had my Touch HD for three weeks.... Never had a HTC device before.... Never even knew what manila was until a couple of weeks ago.... Came over from the HP/ETEN darkside!!
harrispro - If you want to stop the background from fading when you slide, simply replace 43aedb65_manila with the one in the atached zip file.... (Using the usual steps.... Turn TF3D Off.... Move File.... Overwrite.... blah blah blah....).... This file is simply a clear qtc file to replace the opaque one that the mode9 file lays over the screen to fade it....
Rozenthal / MAMeingast - Many apologies, I am just playing and tweeking my stardard Telstra Australia ROM and did not realise that this would have such a bad reaction with "Cooked" Versions of manila and ROM's....
I will explain what I have done....
The four manila files in the original zip are:
1e29e8e7_manila - This is just a glassed version of the slider qtc graphic
18c460d8_manila - This is a clear version of the top curtain qtc graphic
1864da05_manila - This is a clear version of the bottom curtain qtc graphic
5c9aa261_manila - This is the main mode9 file that controls manila (along with several Lua scripts that I have not worked out yet). This is the file I modified so that it would tile the qtc graphic further down and fade the area originally covered by the bottom curtain.
If someone wants to attach a copy of 5c9aa261_manila from manila v2 I would happily have a go at modifying it so that it would work for you....
MAMeingast - I have not replied to your question posted in my Hide TF3D Icons thread yet.... That explanation will require a bit more time.... I will reply before the end of the week....

I'm afraid I'll have to curse you then... It didn't work! Actually, nothing changed!
I have no idea how Manila works - but maybe completely different files would have to be edited since Manila 3 supports landscape mode?
Ok ok.... We are not done yet....
1. Did you try it in both Landscape (Horizontal) & Portrait (Vertical) mode??
If you did not try Portrait (Vertical) can you please try and let me know if that works as there may just be another manila file that operates Landscape, and if so we can deal with that....
2. If step 1 still does not work, then I need you to back up your 43aedb65_manila then replace it with the one attached to this post....
Try it in both Landscape and Portrait mode to confirm for me that manila v3 uses the same qtc graphic to fade the screen as my version does....
I suspect that the manila file I have modified might operate Portrait mode, but there is probably another manila to run Landscape....
Our next option is a bigger step.... I will need you to zip up all your manila files and attach them so I can have a good poke around and see what is happening.... We will cross that bridge if step 1 & 2 confirm that we need to....
I guess if we get stuck I could contact whoever designed manila v3 and ask them the filenames for any mode9 manila that operates TF3D....
I want to solve this....
Cheers....

Great to hear you're resolved!
Will try your suggestions and report back!
Ok: The first file you offered doesn't change anything - neither in portrait nor in landscape.
The second file disables the fading effect in both portrait and landscape - so you're obviously on to something.
I'll zip and upload all the manila files in a few minutes!
For some reason I currently can't upload the zip file here (always get a 503 error).
I uploaded it here: http://www.thetouchhdsite.com/Manila Files.zip
I get an Object Not Found error when I try your link....
The reason you can not upload here is probably because the file size if too big (8mb restriction on .zip files)
You have a couple of options....
I really only need any manila file that ia a mode9 (you can use m9editor to identify these).... That should greatly reduce the number of files you need to zip and attach....
The other option is to zip the files up into two or three zip files and attach them in seperate posts....
Cheers....

The file is only 4.X MB big! And the link gets messed up here in the forum because of the space between "Manila" and "Files"! Try copying the whole link (not only the blue part, but including the "Files.zip" part) - it should work!
I'm going to try and upload the file again here in a sec...

Hi tsalta,
It would be great if you could send me the files "who remove the dots and (...) the Manila file that Remove the Calendar and Missed Calls and they are INVISIBLE but they are working" ([email protected])
I have the official WM 6.5 Rom (German) from HTC. How can I find out whether I'm using sense 2.1 or 2.5. Any idea if your files will work with this rom?
Thank you very much!!!

You need to go in SETTINGS then SYSTEM then will see Device Info and then click on Software Information you will see what Build of WIndows you use and WHat build of Manila if your Manila is 2.1.19.19xxxx for example this mean you are with Manila 2.1 Sense
Let me know if u are with 2.1 will give you the cabs if you are with 2.5 etc they will not work for you

Its very BUGGY
And when your clear the home screen the Calendar and Missed call tabs still work and u are able to click on them... i already do this befor a mounth i was searching to hide them and they to dont work.
Also the cabs there including the Slider invisible the clock and etc all together so if someone looking for Calendar and Missd call need to open the CAB via Wince Manager and extraxt only the files he need not a big deal but like i say they are still Active on home screen.
Anyway thanks for the info
