what are the major differences between The Core Pocket Media Player(TCPMP) & core player,i know one is free & one is paid bt whts the major difference?
Supposedly CorePlayer has more features like youtube integration (useless IMO when we have a youtube app) and supports more file types.
For my purposes I have found that TCPMP is best because it plays anything I need it to play (flv's for the most part) and there's a beautiful fully working WVGA skin for it, while Coreplayer is stuck on QVGA graphics unless you find a WVGA skin that acutally works, which I really haven't. There's a GTX skin that kind of works.
But for flat functionality, CorePlayer is better because it has support for more file types. What those types are exactly I couldn't tell you because I haven't ran into one yet that TCPMP won't play.

but sir whn i play flv on tcpmp it doesnt work good,i mean thesound playes well bt the video goes on very slow
Core Player youtube looks sharper (if you set that up) than the regular player.
I like Core Player for must things but some higher quality files may need Windows Media player or HTC player since they use the hardware playback.
I have a nice Transformers file for example that Core player can barely play skipping all the time.
I still use it very often.

I have not experienced this but I supposed it depends on quality of the video, size, frame rate, etc... Usually I download videos from youtube to play with TCPMP and they work to perfection.
For a lot of WMV files, I found coreplayer to be faster. When drag across progress bar, the seek speed is much faster.

turning off sense helps the playback quality of higher quality videos in coreplayer.
try chaniging buffer speed

Howdy all. I have been doing some research and found out about an ATI issue that causes/ed problems. I am running VP3G 2.0.1H and have downloaded the TCPMP 0.72 RC1. Do i still need this ATI fix? I believe the ROM I am running does include this fix though.
I ask this because i already have *.avi of shows and movies and they all have a few minimal frame rate, somewhere around .5 i think, the audio plays fine but no video.
To add further confusion i followed MrVanx guide about encoding for the Hermes and made one of files that has a res of 608 and a size of 350MB into a res of 320 and a size of 214. After converting that and playing it on my phone it works pretty well, occasionally there are artifacts; how do i fix this?. Is that part of the old issues? Is the buffer under options>settings>buffering going to help with the occasional dropped frame? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The new version is quite amazing and handle the Imageon chip on every ROM I tried (with and without the sleuth's ati patch). There is also a huge speed improvement between Coreplayer and tcpmp. It allows me to watch with very few slowdowns films ripped in high quality (624x352, 23fps, ...). As I am to lazy to have those ripped in a mobile format, this situation suits me well.

CorePlayer constantly freezes up on me. I recommend the FREE DivX Player from DivX themselves.

I even try to watch my divx films on my pc straight over wifi, which still doesn't seem to work ideally. I wonder what the limitation is, is it just the bits/s or maybe the video chip simply can't process that much information/second.
I'm also too lazy to rip the films yet again into a mobile format, it should be able to handle it, and 802.11g should handle the bitrate over the air...
Well, I suppose I'll consider CorePlayer, but I loved TCPMP being free. Oh well.

Orb + DivX player = Streamable over wifi/internet without any converting.
I tried the TCPMP .81RC1 and the slowdown isn't as bad, doing a benchmark it is 773k/s instead of 100k/s but the video need 1.3MB/s so i think i am going to need to convert what i want to the smaller size. I might try out coreplayer if i get a chance.

you do that as fun_key pointed out, CorePlayer now completely supports ATI ImageON, which means absolutely no artifacts playing MPEG4/H263 videos. plus ATI ImageON can handle MUCH higher bitrates, which helps if you're a bad boy and download all of your stuff from the net.. you won't need any converting at all (unless you want to stream audio over A2DP)
So what i am hearing is that i need to buy Coreplayer. Guess that is what i will do then. Thanks a bunch
On the new Dopod rom released on Jul-12th,
(1) ATIFix.cab from Sleuth is still required. (Both TCPMP and CorePlayer).
if not, you will see the screen zigzag after stoping video.
TCPMP set video for IMAGEON not IMAGEON decoder to remove
random blocks on the video..
CorePlayer 1.1.1 tested with imageon acceleration set.
(2) If u use the camera, then go and watch video using TCPMP or Coreplayer
there is a Green zigzag. (BUG same like the other WM6 cooked rom).
Not sure if this can be resolved. If disabled IMAGEON completely, no issue with the using CAMERA then watching video using CorePlayer or TCPMP.
By default, Windows Media Player didnot enable IMAGEON accelerator.
I read many threads in the forum regarding video on the HD and after hours spent trailing through a post which is now locked I settled on SUPER encoding to flash FLV files... only problem is if I feed it a 1.4gb H264 file (which the HD cant play) it ends up at 2.6Gb I still run the stock SD card 8Gb.
Am I missing a setting? I really wanna sort the video out on my HD! but would like the movies to stay similar size to the original rip....

Yep treid that one too... the files always end up waaaaay bigger than the orginal... I tried a 4Gb BRrip with that and it came out almost the size of the flash card....
Then you selected the wrong bitrate.
Assuming your movie is 90 minutes long, then using the "HD" setting bitrate of 750kbit/s your movie will be (750*60*90)/8/1024 = 494 MB.
What you are stating is not possible, unless your movie is 10 hours long or you manually entered an insanely high bitrate, such as 7500kbit/s, which is completely useless and which the Touch HD can not handle anyway.
The tool is coded for simplicity. If you don't understand what anything does, then you just add the files, select the output dir and press "start". Experimenting around by setting random options which you do not fully understand obviously will result in spectacular failure most of the time. So I recommend you to try it again. If it doesn't work, then let me know and I will fix it.
All this said, if you rather not use my GUI, then you can get an acceptable result with SUPER by using iPhone profile. The quality will be worse, seeking might be broken and it might slow down sometimes, but other than that, it should work.
I used a Blue Ray rip.... 4.5Gig..... it ended up at almost 6Gig....
I used the HD GUI you made because it was so easy.... just remoting into my server to see how the next one I'm trying is getting on.....
Have you tried using WinFF ~ http://winff.org/html/
I used to use SUPER but changed to WinFF because:-
1. It is quicker.
2. File sizes are smaller.
3. It is very easy to use.
4. It supports a number of devices including Mobile Phones, iPod etc.

What settings on WinFF did you use to encode the video?
Ahhh... not got round to using that one yet... I was using the HD GUI made by projection, 4.5gb Blue ray rip source, 800x480 output.
Just wondered if someone could point me in the direction of a player that has enough grunt to play these rips? Core is Jerk'o'vision...

Dude, just skim along the TF3D menu to Photos and Videos.
If your video's in the default album it will appear as a thumbnail here if it isn't just use the Album button to browse to it.
Basically the HTC player they're on about i launched when you click on a thumbnail in the TF3D Photo's and Video's screen (or browse to an album location).

8GB micro SD cards are very cheap in Hong Kong - so I don't bother coverting files to mp4 or whatever that's compatible with HD. Instead, I just copy the whole seasons of TV series into HD and use it as PMP (my Archos 605 just died)
Getting Divx Mobile was easy enough (just have to register & download). But I noticed that it takes a while (lag) to skip. Also, when in full screen, it was grainy (pixexls) - not sure this is due to poor quality of original file (downloaded bt)...
Any other suggestions? I don't mind paying - but want the best video quality possible.
p.s. don't worry about battery life either: US$20 for a spare battery and I'm never far from a outlet (HK is just so tiny)

Like all the above posts....Coreplayer, the only app you need to view those common video formats.
I have found coreplayer to be very laggy myself....Media Player plays my HD files with no issues at all......I never could understand all the fuss
Coreplayer does not support grafic accelerator of HD. Native video player is better with suitable video properties.

I downloaded that Encoder - but it seemed like a tool for converting the formats (not a software installed on HTC to play movies) Correct me if I am wrong. So how does that help in anyway?? I am using core now (found a cab version with flash support - so it seemed convenient so far)
I'd like to try Encoder - I have seen many knowledgeable ppl talking about it so I must be missing something here... Why does converting help?? What does "native player is better" mean?? And how does Encoder make use of HTC hardware accelerators if it isnt even installed on HTC????

Latest HTC devices have good video capabilities but 3rd party video players do not support this hardware (yet).
Album or Windows Media Player are meaned by native video player. But they have also some limitations naturally. You should have compatible frame rate and bitrate to get maximum performance.
So, the best way to see good video on Touch HD is to convert any video file with proper settings and watch it by album or Windows Media Player.
now i get it... tried it last night on SD setting. My 350MB file converted into 200MB file and played beautifully on Album.

i play movies with CorePlayer without converting them.
I just copy paste my 700Mb AVI/DivX (1h30 min) movie onto my memory card, and it plays perfectly : smooth playback, and clear picture.
So need to convert anything.
I use the basic settings from Coreplayer... Works out of the box !
Even with my old Kaiser, it was playing well after some tweaking.
+1 same here...no conversion needed. I play a 1 1/2 hours avi movie with coreplayer with the default setting directly from my microSD 16GB with no problem. Smooth running too. Btw, this is my first time watch a full movie on my TP2, usually i only watch a small clip/trailer movie.
Very impression performance too.
Hunt down the pocketnow.com TP2 review. In one of their videos in the review, they do some benchmarking and come up with their ideal resolution and bitrate. It may not be final for you, but it's bound to be useful info.
use built in player for mp4 format! it uses the hardware effectively! i dont think coreplayer can utilize the hardware optimally nevertheless it is a good video player for many formats.

The latest version of TCPMP plays a whole slew of formats. If you want a media player with alot of functionality, Kinoma Player (shareware) has many different functions. Not sure all the formats it plays.
There's Core Player, a branch of TCPMP that is a pretty smooth video player as well. Finally, DivX has an app for WinMo as well, so you could give that a try.
tcpmp and core player are the best on my opinion
i've looked up tcpmp on the web, and found a page about it on http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-tcpmp-v0-72rc1.html but it doesn't seem to be the right one.
when i instal the cab, the program says on startup "unexpected program error, send crash.txt to the developers......".
so it doesn't run on my pocket pc.
i tought i found the tcpmp website with http://coreplayer.com/ but it costs me 24 bucks.
the free version is very difficult to find.

i don't remember which one i downloaded... wnloaded about 5 of them from different sites.
i installed all of them (one at a time) to see which one worked best.
the one i've got is worked the best way... but like i said it's shocky... to say the least.

isn't the whole idea of mobile windows, the idea that you have a mobile version of windows?
and isn't windows also (largely) used for different kinds of media? e.g. video, music etc...

TBH I find it alot easier just converting movies and using the HTC player. The Videora TP2 converter does its job perfectly and I like having the movies in the HTC album. Easy access, smooth playback.

I have T-Mobile HTC TP2. Where is the HTC Player? I have a music player in Sense but have not seen a video player.

the video player is only pops up when you play a video file on the touch pro2...there isn't an icon, tab, or anything like that...
i can vouch that videora is an outstanding programing for converting video for use on the touch pro2...i have the metal gear solid 1,2 & 3 cut scenes on my device...!!!

looks pretty good... but the thing i'm looking for i versatility (i probably wrote it wrong...).
it has to be able to play avi, mpg, mpeg, wmv, mp4 and a lot more if possible.
is this player able to do that?
looks are not important, performance is!
till thus far, tcpmp isn't good enough (it.... plays..... movies...... like..... this...... ).

What movies are you trying to play , I dont think you ripped them right or if you got it from some websites , sometimes the copy isnt good. Dont just blame the media player.

You can access them from the HTC album tab just like your photos. That, or tap them from explorer.
EDIT: Granted they are in the MPEG-4 format you get from, for example, the Videora converter I linked.

i'm not to sure how good the quality of the file is.
all i know is, it's a 700 mb avi file that plays beautifully on my old laptop with VLC running on win xp.
now i'm trying to play that same file on the video player you linked, but the quality is awefull.
the audio stops and starts playing every few seconds, and the video just 1 frame a second (and every now and then, it skips a few frames to catch up with the audio).
i personally just think that nobody bothered to make a descent video player for win mobile. OR (and please forgive me for saying this), the phone simply sucks totally (mostly because it has win mobile on it....).
