[REF] Installing Stock android calendar

Here is a quick tutorial for installing the stock android calendar. This method works for me hope it works for you . It backups your touchwiz calendar also, i'm not sure if you can reverse this process.. Do not use the calendar clock

1.) Must have root. Use root explorer or ADB to move TouchWizCalendar.apk & .odex, TouchWizCalendarProvider.apk & .odex, and InfoAlarm.apk & .odex to somewhere on your SD Card as backups. Reboot.
2.) Go into manage applications. Filter to all. Uninstall com.android.calendar.apk and com.android.provider.calendar.apk. Reboot again
3.) Copy Calendar.apk and calendarprovider.apk from this thread across to your SD card. Install both.
4.) If you want, use root explorer to move them from /data/app to /system/app but really not necessary. Reboot again, should sync by default but re-enable if you need to.

Can you test if its the same issue with stock calendar regarding setting default calendar?
In touchwiz calendar, when youre making a new appointment/task its defaulting on the builtin phone calendar memory but im using google calendar so i have to switch to google calendar setting everytime i make a new calendar task.

it doesnt have a local calendar so everything will be uploaded to your google calendar.
You can also select another google calendar when making an appointment if you have multiple calendars
and off course there is a widget which samsung doesnt have (except daily briefing)

I've got a problem with installing CalendarProvider.apk, i can't install it, theres just an error: "Anwendung nicht installiert".
In adp logcat I get:

Think you have to reboot first. forgot 1 reboot in the tutorial i think

Still doesn't work.
I'm using firmware I9000XWJM2.
Has anyone other got it to work?
I double-checked that the deleted files are gone.

Getting this Error on Step 2:

Yes, I have that button too. Isn't it nice? Just being there, hanging around on the screen. I call it my big blue "buddha" button.
BTW thanks for your mod. (maybe you should add again to the first strp that the apk files can be found in the system\apps dir)

Try with Titanium backup you can uninstall system apps with it.

Well, I went through /system/app and deleted a load of APKs (so now just have 1 page of apps in the app drawer, and then another 2 which I want to get rid of)
I can't find the APKs for these though

Thats a link to a rom cleaning script which lists many apps and the name of the .apk for that app,you may find what you need to know there.Just watch what you are deleting as could cause system problems

If the script doesn't work, you can use the package manager commands through terminal (or adb shell) to determine apk location.

Stock email app apk?

In my haste on my freshly rooted Nexus, I used Titanium Backup to uninstall some apps I don't use that I know I can get from the market if I ever wanted them, but I got a bit quick and uninstalled the stock Email app instead of freeze it (in case I ever wanted to use it). I did a factory reset but that doesn't bring it back so my question is, can anyone post the apk and tell me where to put it to get it back? I think the proper location is /system/app, is that correct? Thanks.

Yep, /system/app. There are two APKs with the Email icon: EmailGoogle.apk and ExchangeGoogle.apk. I've attached both as a ZIP.

OK so I'm still a bit new to this. I used root explorer to mount /system/app as r/w and changed the permissions on the EmailGoogle.apk to rwxr--r--. I already have ExchangeGoogle.apk. I have enabled "allow non-market apps" in my settings but I'm still getting "application not installed" when i try to install it. What am I missing? I used the RootToolkit to unlock and root my Galaxy Nexus, but I do have some experience using adb from the past with rooting my Droid. Do I need adb to install this?

You won't be able to install it, just use a root explorer (such as ES File Explorer) to manually copy the file to /system/app, it should then show up as installed.

Ah ok. I did a reboot and it's still not in my app drawer.

I wasn't thinking; you'll need the ODEX as well. I've attached both files, just copy them both into /system/app and let me know if that works.

Apps That Are Safe to Remove/Rename/Freeze in CM7 [Updated 2/16/12]

I haven't seen anything posted about this so I figured I'd post the list of apps that I have renamed or removed in CM7. Some are apps that the tablet won't ever use and some are apps that I personally won't be using. I'm sure there are more but these are the ones I've done so far. Please note: When you rename phone.apk you will get a message saying that phone has stopped working and it will not stop popping up, just hold down your power button to reboot and it won't come up again.

Just to pick your brain a bit: Are you simply editing the zip contents (seems safest) or are you actually extracting everything and then re-compressing it once you've removed the fluff?

You *can* keep SoundRecorder if you want to - and it makes sense ot include it in the ROM. True, the Kindle Fire doesn't have a built-in mic, but I have one of these mics and it works great. It just doesn't use the speakers if this mic is plugged in, since it's detected as a headset + mic.

Just curious, regarding Contacts.apk and Phone.apk...are the two interdependant or will Contacts work without Phone.
Seems to me that using Contacts synced to your G-Mail account would provide the e-mail addresses of your contacts (just ignore the phone numbers) for any e-mailing you might want to do from your Fire...

I just delete or rename them in the system/app folder using root explorer.

Your contacts should show up in your gmail automatically, at least they do for me.

As I recall from previous posts, renaming such apks like phone and telephony will cause FC's in the settings menu and possibly other areas.

The only temporary issue is when renaming phone it, causes it to force close, once you reboot it doesn't happen again. I've had them all renamed for a day or so and I've been through a lot of the settings and have not had an issue.

Why rename when you simply evict? make up some extra space for yourself...
do it with adb... root explorer titanium, your fingers, out of /system/app/* and then their corpse cousins over in /data/data/* This is where I learned... http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barebones.

When Titanium got down to the last app =Wifi Calling App the phone would go nuts.. and I always had to hit the reboot at the specific time to get it to reboot (if I missed that time, then I had to do batt-pull) get into recovery do wipe cache and dalvik, then reboot recovery then fix permissions and boot back.. and all was well.
the point is when you take out the music and telephony, especially DSP Manager, anything that uses audio is tied to other parts of the framework -- but its always fixable with a reboot and fix permissions.

I always rename them and leave them for a few days before deleting them just to be sure things still play nicely.

Yes! Before flashing, open zip file and delete any apks that you don't need. Easiest way in my opinion.

Not trying to be an ass or anything but just removing the apk does not uninstall the app. The data will still be there and the device will sill think its installed (even tho you won't see the app in the app drawer) it shouldn't cause any issues but if your removing a bunch of stuff, might as well uninstall them correctly and reclaim the space they take up.
Titanium backup would probably be the easiest way to do it but what I prefer to do is put it all into a script. That way I can run it on whatever rom I install.
An example of how to uninstall the browser via command line...
rm/system/app/Browser.apk
pm uninstall com.android.browser
It should then say "seccess"
With system apps you need to remove the apk first then run the pm uninstall name.of.package command. Hope someone found this helpful
Edit: also, I wouldn't remove, uninstall or rename talk.apk because the market uses it in some way (can't remember for what exactly but it needs it)

None of the apk's I removed show up in "/data/app" or "/system/app". So IMO, they are gone. Even checking the "/cache/" and it's contents. No trace of them there either. (I do wipe "cache/dalvik-cache" after deleting apk's).

Well the apk is gone but the /data/data/package data is still there. Try "adb shell pm list packages" and see if any of your removed apk's package names are listed.

Question How to actually delete gmail app from system?

I'm looking for a way to actually delete/uninstall gmail from system.
I know you can do a command in adb to uninstall, but that just disables the app and leaves the files in the partition.
Looking for a way to actually delete the file, and when i install it through Play Store, it just installs like a regular app, not as system app.
I've been looking through files with MiX explorer. But I'm scared if i delete the file i find, that it bricks my phone after reboot.

I'm rooted and use debloater module in magisk to delete system apps. I like that I can save the list of apps I want to delete and just flash the module after each update to repeat the process.
Deleting an app folder shouldn't break anything, but if you ever have concerns just rename the folder instead of deleting. That way the system can't find it, but it's still there if you need it back.

Make sure usb debugging is active on phone in developer options, download fastboot tools connect phone to computer and select always allow usb debugging from this computer on text pop up on phone.
Open cmd line in fastboot tools dir and type
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.google.android.gm
Or try this

This is the command i was talking about. It doesn't delete the apk. After i run this and reinstall the app from play store, it is back into system app.

Why are you reinstalling it if you want to delete it?
Maybe look at systemize module to move it from system to data if that's what you are trying to do

That doesn't work.
It is only able to delete the updates. System apk remains.
According to the app it is located here:
/product/app/Gmail2/Gmail2.apk
I dunno if i can delete it, since this phone uses A/B partitions. Usually system apps are located in a different folder.

I'm trying to delete it to see if it fixes the notifications.
This phone is hunted with push notifications not receiving at all for this app.
Hoping that this would fix it.

Try a different email app hasn't been solved yet, lot of false claims around here. There is a thread on it.

I've read all those. No one has tried this yet.

I use alpha backup pro to delete gmail (and many other apps), which will permanently remove a system app (need root), however, if you want to do it the safe way, use de-bloater (playstore), which removes apps via magisk, i.e systemless, so you can revert if you f something up. cheers

Titanium Backup (root) can delete, freeze, and of course, backup system and user apps. Make a backup first, and look over the list of system apps, there are a lot there which are google-related. Freezing will do the same as pm disable....... Uninstall will remove it completely. Whether your device is A/B or not will not matter.
The nice thing about TB is you can see the actual (full) filenames of the packages, and any uninstall/freezes are easily reversible. There are probably other (google) notification service-type apps which are giving you the undesired notifications,

Not sure what you mean. Several of these apps do exactly that.
De-bloater Pro (from playstore) deletes the apk from /product (or /vendor, etc.) and moves it to its own folder in /data/adb/modules so that you can restore it later if you so choose (or if you accidentally delete the wrong thing and bootloop).
Debloater (magisk module for terminal) does the same thing. I use it to fully remove several system apps (Netflix, YouTube, YTMusic, etc.) in order to install non-system versions.

Well, the apps i tried all failed with an error it could not delete it.
I didn't try that one you mentioned, because you have to pay for it.
So i went and tried the debloater module, and you are right. It did delete it. Thank you!
Let's see if this makes any difference.

So far, so good.
I have been receiving notifications from Gmail since i deleted the system app and installed it from Play Store as a regular app
Let's see if this continues working.
