Maybe this is a stupid question but i can't seem to get it to work. Every time i try to send a picture mail (MMS) in between 1M & 2M it always converting the picture to a much smaller picture like 28k. I already tried to go to the settings and change it but it still won't work.
Can someone let me know what can i do about this.
Thanks

There is a file size limit for mms. The carriers set it, and there is no way to change it. I send pictures through my email if I know the person has a smartphone.
Whats so crazy is that I went to setting and changed the size limit to 2M but the picture that I will try to send will only be 1.80M. It will still convert it into like 28k or even smaller. So I am not understanding the whole purpose of setting the size limit, if its going to covert it to a much smaller size.

The size limitation isn't in the camera settings, it's built into the carriers MMS settings and you can't change it. Even if you have a 5m photo it'll down-convert it for MMS. The work-around is to email it or upload it to a share folder (like in Picasa) if you want the full size photo.
thanks guys for all Yall help

Is anyone having issue with the compression of images when sending via MMS? Whenever I send a picture taken by the camera, it compresses it so much it goes all blocky. I'm using the stock messaging app and the max MMS size is 300k, but it compresses the images down to about 90k. Any way around this?
Cheers
I've noticed this also. Would love to hear of a cure.
I think there's a workaround for the Evo 4g, would be good if we could get the same for the DHD.
I have a similar problem.
I have the HTC Desire on T-Mobile and it always compresses the pictures to about 25kb. I've tried Handcent but it hasn't made any different.
Is this a problem with T-mobile or Android?
no solution?
I have this issue too, since I made the Gingerbread update. (It wasn't there in FroYo)
I'm using a workaround with the application "Image Shrink Lite".
With this app, I'm able to select an image in the the phone, then share it to Image Shrink, and Image Shrink redirect the well compressed file to the mms application.
This way, I'm able to use XGA(1024x768) images in my MMS.
My setup is:
-XGA size
- Quality : 85%
The only bad thing is I have to go to the image gallery first, I can't do it directly from the MMS "add attachment" option.
But it also works from the camera application, and you also can do it from any email app!

I've always had this problem on every ROM i've ever used. the thing was i never really cared enough to ask anyone what the issue was lol. so maybe someone can help me out here.
i typically use sense roms and i have photos assigned to a lot of my contacts. these arent facebook or twitter pics sync'ed with the contact, just default photos i saved for them. i also use SMS Popup. some pics dont show up in the messaging app. some pics dont show up on the popup notification. anyone know the reason for this?
PS. the photos DO show up when i go to my list of contacts though.

Gonna take a real quick shot in the dark, so take it with a grain of salt. Any photos that show up in all places correctly, check their dimensions, file type, and size. My guess, and I heavily emphasize guess here, is that each place you're looking for these (the app, built in contact list, etc) has its certain requirements for pic size, dimensions and file type. If you examine the ones that are working in all places correctly, it might give some headway into figuring out what is wrong with the other ones. If none are working in all places, try taking one of the contact pics, go into windows paint, crop it to the size you would want to see, do a "save as..." and choose .jpg. Windows paint will strip out any additional layers and such that are weighing on the image and pretty much break it down to its most simple form and reduce the size. Then load up that modified pic and see if it works everywhere, if it does, rinse and repeat. If it doesn't work, well, it was worth a shot.
First off im of course using the Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile network.
The issue I am having, and would like to know if it's not an isolated incident, is that when receiving MMS messages, pictures are shrunken to a fraction of its size regardless who sent it.
The other problem is when uploading pictures taken from the GN to Google+, it shrinks it also. The odd part is that it only does it to pictures that originated from the Galaxy Nexus (screenshots and camera photos) but if its a photo that is from a different device, it posts full size.
If anyone is experiencing these issues, could you raise a voice. Maybe try and offer a fix.

I'm on T-Mobile as well and I too have noticed that when receiving MMS the pictures are tiny...
If you upload a picture to Google+, it will reduce the size down to 2048 px on it's longest edge. By doing this, it ensures that your pictures don't count towards your 1GB limit (any photos up to 2048 x 2048 don't count towards your storage).
I think it also compresses them down quite a bit - there is quite a size difference between the original on your phone and those on G+ (it can be around 1MB less on G+).
I was intending to use the instant upload as my "set and forget" backup for my photos, but after noticing this I don't think it's a very good idea

The thing is that when you upload a picture that hasn't been taken with the Galaxy Nexus, it's uploaded at normal resolution. The photos are put onto the web at full resolution.
So basically in order for me to post my GN photos at full resolution, I have to let it instant upload and then post it from the website.
even if you take a photo with the galaxy nexus, and MMS yourself. When you receive the photo its a little thumbnail and out of resolution. Im on t-mo

Do you mean when you actually share your pictures in a post?
If that's the case, then yeah I noticed that too. Uploading pictures to your albums (privately) will just resize them to 2048, if you actually share the picture (as in upload it as a post) then it shrinks them down even further. Which is odd, I agree.

Yeah, have you heard of anyone working on a fix. It seems to be a T-Mobile thing cause there hasn't been any mention of this on the other GSM networks.

Yeah, I meant post, not upload. =p
But it's annoying. The G+ is something I can deal with though.
The MMS is what really annoys me though. I know I can use email to get around it, but I hate having to have two separate means of texting and receiving pictures. I like it all under one thing.
I have tmo and have this issue with mms as well. My images are small and blurry when received.
Is anyone outside of T-Mobile having these issues?
I seem to remember this happening with the Nexus S as well. It's on T-Mobile's end and they have to do something "flip a switch" if you will, to allow it to work properly.
mms is fine on at+t, but the google plus thing reeeeally bothers me and hasn't been updated.

Thank you guys for the help.
I guess I'll give T-Mobile a call and see what they can do about it.
I have the MMS issue also. Posted in the US TMo users thread and people ignored it so i thought i was the only one. I went nuts messing with APN settings etc but nothing worked.
It is a issue with T-Mobile. The same thing happens on other phones like the HTC Sensation Z710e vs. HTC Sensation 4G.
T-Mobile does not recognize the MMS UA String. I have to set my Sensation Z710e to a Sensation 4G MMA UA String in order to receive full size pictures.

how does one do this?
Edit a file inside a ROM under \system\customize\MNS\default.xml
This is for Sensation ROM, not sure if its the same path for Nexus ROM.
Don't use MMS but the Google+ tiny posting issue makes it completely useless.
It has to be addressed.

One thing I'm have an issue with is multiple contacts for one person on the GS3. I've tried combining the contacts and it works to a point. Here's what I like to do:
1. Combine my contacts and have them use the Facebook photo for the contact. How do I change it so it doesn't default to a pic I had setup as the Google contact?
2. Why do contacts keep getting so distorted after a wipe and reinstall?
3. How do I get the contact pics top take up the entire pic area when in call instead a small pic?
4. Is there a faster way to combine contacts?
Thanks for the help

First I think there's a rule about bumping your own threads within a certain timeframe... so might want to watch that
As to the questions:
1) When your in a contact, press MENU, then "Mark as Default", this will let you choose the default picture, call number,etc... if you're facebook account is linked to this contact that will be one of the pictures at the top. (Now if the pic's aren't being pulled from facebook, that's a whole other issue, and you'll need a 3rd party app to do that it seems)
2) Distorted?? What do you mean exactly? Pictures lowering resolution? or something else.
3)When I'm in a call the picture takes up the top half of the screen.. which is the pic area... are you saying some of your pics do NOT take up that entire half space? Or that you want the pic to take up the entire SCREEN? If it's the former, my guess is it has to do with your picture resolution... try using bigger pictures? (Mine are approx 452x604 resolution , originally used on my Evo 4G).
4) Faster.. nope Clicky Clicky Clicky. I did mine during an episode of America's got Talent. Also be warned, the stock ROM has a limit of combining 5 contacts as a maximum. Custom ROMs can override this, and if you're rooted, there is a file you can edit yourself to increase the amount you can join (No flashing needed, just one text file edit, the feature.xml file in system/etc)

1. Set as default worked great!
2. Pics have a really low resolution. Not sire if it has something to do with pics being possible restored from a back up or something??
3. I usually have to go in an reassign the pics in order for them to be larger. Again I think this has to do with them coming from a backup pic associated with the contact.
4. Yeah, I know. I'm gonna edit the XML file now.
Higher Resolution Pics
The resolution of the Facebook Contact pics suck. Anyway to bring the pics in a higher resolution?
Try this and you can link Facebook with contacts on your phone. It works good I use this. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ro.weednet.contactssync

The contacts sync great with the phone. Its just the pics are horrible. I'll check this out
Hi, I have just realised my P2 is doing something pretty funky to any pictures I send via MMS, it reduces them so much they are completely crap at the other end! An original 3MB photo at 4160*2340 is reduced to 84KB at 520*293. An original 795KB screen grab at 1080*1920 is reduced to 42KB at 270*480.
I cannot see anywhere that gives me the option to send full size, either as a default somewhere or at the time of sending.
Is this something that anybody has found a workaround for, please? Thanks.
