Flashing Amon Recovery - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried Clockwork mod recovery and didn't really like it. How do I get back to Amon recovery?

Very impractical way but I unrooted and re-rooted, I downloaded Amon's and placed it in the folder for simple root and did that, didn't take long but still didn't have a backup.

I used the fastboot method. Doesn't get any easier than that

[HELP] How to adb in bootloader or recovery

ok, I did something kinda stupid, but there should be a way to fix it. I flashed amon ra recovery and then rebooted into recovery. I wiped everything, and was planning on flashing a rom. However, amon ra recovery expects the rom.zip file to be on the root. Also, amon ra won't work with the nand backups I made in clockwork. What can I do to flash a rom to get my phone back? I either need to be able to adb and copy a rom from my download folder to the root, or flash the clockwork mod recovery. However, I don't know where I need to be in order to adb. I type in adb shell in bootloader and it says device not found.
EDIT: Nevermind. I got it finally.

no recovery mode

My friend was trying to root his 2.2 a while back now he doesn't have the stock recovery mode. I dont know what he did too it. When i hld down to get into recovery mode and i scroll down and press power on recovery mode it boots up and has nothing shows up is there a way to fix that?
why dont you try and flash Amon recovery. You can also use simpleroot one click and flash a new recovery that way. Thats how I did it for the new 1.8 Amon.
Open up the simpleroot folder rename the Amon img to the same name as the Amon img in the simpleroot folder then Flash recovery
Try it

[Q] how to remove amonra recovery

So I don't want to unroot. I have amonra, clockwork, and rom manager. When I boot into recovery it goes straight to ra recovery, I have to flash the update.zip to get to clockwork. I would just like it to boot straight to clockwork or to remove ra
I installed rom manager the other day and updated to the latest version thinking that would overide ra when booting to recovery from rom manager, only for ra to come up saying 'bad' update.
I know this will more than likely be simple, I have done a few searches but not found much apart from unrooting.

you need to re run unrevoked and untick use custom recovery so it flashes clockwork or use custom and select a clockwork recovery of choice
its in the clockworkmod thread in the dev section and the amonRA thread
please read them
Hello!
You need to unrevoked again....Downolad unrevoked for your phone, BEFORE to plug your phone to your computer go in the up left corner and choose your recovery , wich can be amonra or clockwork mod, let computer do the job and voila! You are donne
Thanks you very much dudes. I was a total noob to all things root when I did mine and just followed steps from a mate. I couldn't remember how RA got on there. Cheers

Hey, so I hope you guys check this. I tried running the unrevoked again.
Only for it to seemingly get right to the end and attempt root (I thought it was just going to reflash and slap the clockwork in there) for it to say Error: failed to get root - Is your firmware too new?
Is there an easy way around this? Or is it the rom I am running??
I haveOxygen-20. RC6

You don't get 2 recoveries. If you 'fake flash' using ROM Manager it'll lose CWM instead of your normal recovery
You could try to S-OFF with AlphaRev iso (which will also update the recovery to CWM-AlphaRev 2.5.1.8 with dark blue color)
When you are S-OFF you can update the recovery with fastboot
If you don't want or cannot do all this, you could try to fake flash the CMW 3.2 recovery when you need it.
Fake flash means to load another recovery (3.2) while in recovery (2.5) by simply applying a zip file. You then have all the feature of the 3.2 recovery without permanently installing it.
1) put the zip with 3.2 recovery on your SD card (zip in thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1039954)
2) boot in recovery
3) apply the zip (like you would flash a rom, but it only loads the 3.2 recovery operating system without removing/deleting any file in your phone). You should notice the text color change and a few more options in the menu.
4) enjoy
Fake Flash is more or less what what Rom Manager is doing when you use it to reboot in recovery mode (but it only supports a restricted set of recovery versions that have been tuned to work with Rom Manager).
Another benefit of fake flash is that you can still use your old nandroid backups, as it it not recommended to restore with recovery X a backup made with recovery Y.

[Q]How have I ended up with Amon and Clockwork

I've been playing around with stuff today and wanted to install Amon so that I could create an EXT4 partition for InsertCoin Rom.
I had to use fastboot to push Amon v2.0.0 to the phone.
I then made my ext4 and installed a different ROM (oxygen) so that I could put Clockwork back in.
I downloaded clockwork and installed from the App.
Now when I turn phone on holding vol down I get Amon
but
If I go into Rom Manager and reboot into recovery I get Clockwork.
WTH?
Any idea why Amon isn't gone and how I can get it gone...?
ROM Manager (****, delete now) flashes CWM via a ZIP file copied to the SD card and is a fake-flash. It's the old method. As you've got AmonRA just use that now
Is there a link to the clockwork mod recovery img ? I can only find zips - are they flashable through fastboot?
Do you WANT CWM? I prefer AmonRA myself. As for links, check ROM development - they're all in there

Reflash your recovery. If you can boot into the rom, use ROM Manager to flash Amon Ra, or reflash Clockwork, whichever you prefer. If you're just stuck at the bootloader, and can't boot to the rom, then as long as you're still S off, you can reflash a PC36IMG of recovery. I'll attatch Amon Ra. V2.3. Put the file on main directory of your sd card, boot to the bootloader, and accept the update. Then you should be able to boot to recovery.
Thanks, but I was using clockwork 3005, had to flash to 3003

Clockwork often fails to flash properly for me. If you can boot up, just reflash Clockwork recovery and it will fix it. If you can't boot up, which sounds like your problem, just copy the file in the link in k2buckley's post above to the root of your sd card and let it flash from the bootloader, then boot up your phone and flash Clockwork again.
