[freezes] wont go to recovery - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so i am running fresh's newest ROM.
have root and Nand.
using rom manager i try to reboot into recovery and it either doesnt do anything meaning it doesnt reboot or it does start the process but freezes at the htc evo4g screen....how can i fix this?
thanks in advance

no suggestions?

is this justa dump question cause the answer is so obvious....or does no one know what the problem is.
I rerooted and reacquired nand thinking that may fixx something..but it didnt
ive also tried from different roms to no avail. my root has been replaced by clockwork mod recovery if that changes the situation at all..and it is the most up to date one from from manager.

see if you can there by powering on the phone while holding volume down.

I would try going back to the Amon-Ra recovery. I would at least try it and see if you have the same issue. It narrows down the trouble shooting IMO

just wait
Yeah i have this problem too. Just about every time I reboot recovery it takes about 3-4 mins to boot into it.

Do you have any PC36IMG.zip files on the root of your SD?

I had the same problem! In another thread they recommend to re-flash the recovery image (the last step in root part two). It fixed the problem for me.

Still stuck, no solution in sight. Cant access recovery

Ive tried flashing both types of recovery, using a few different methods. Terminal on the phone itself. Bootloader. Through Windows I use the Simpleroot and that didnt work. I get a Build RA 1.8.0 in the RA build and black screen with the Clockwork. Then if i push buttons it restarts. I cant do anything. Im stuck. Sigh. Ive tried asking for help but no one seems to answer.
Have you tried installing Rom manager? You can flash clockwork through it then use it to install ra recovery over it. That is if your rooted already.

Sigh. I thought that would maybe work, it was going find (tried mac installation) and said Done. But the recovery screen came on and it was still blank/black. Nothing happens.
(3.2 was down, so when it is back up I can try that.)
3.2.1 didnt work, got an error, couldnt find misc folder. am i stuck here then. no more roms for me?
PHEW
God damn. Im so happy. Lol. I was able to download clockworks and flash it through the bootloader. I dont know why it wouldnt pick it up before. But now I have access again. Feels good to have control again. If you have problems with recovery, i would say getting PC36IMG.ZIP on the root and going to the bootloader will be best. I just have to get use to clockworks instead of RA!

Getting a infinite boot loop, how can i unroot before i take it to sprint?

anybody know how? i used unrevolved.
If you unroot by flashing the RUU you will have fixed your problem and thus won't need to go to Sprint.
If you can get into recovery, you can fix the bootloops.

Why are you giving false/unverified information? I got infinite boot loop on mine, flashed it with many different things, I finally unrooted it and used the latest RUU. Guess what? its still broken.

Same problem here. Did you find a fix?

Trying to recovery partially bricked phone

Okay, so a friend asks me to fix her Dinc... here's the story.
When I first got the dinc, it only powered up into FASTBOOT (HBOOT 0.92, Radio 2.15). The volume and power buttons don't work. She said it crashed when she FC a program to get more memory.
I tried to flash the phone using pb31img.zip on a newly formatted (fat32) sdcard. It scans the card and errors with older version.
Next I try to flash with RUU. That was successful and I can boot into the phone... in safe mode. In addition, if I shut down the phone and power up again, I get stuck in FASTBOOT and have to redo the RUU.
Okay, I figured with the phone booting into Froyo, all is not lost. I tried to use unrevoked to get root and poke around. That failed with error asking if firmware is too new.
I try to install z4root... that doesn't work either since safe mode seems to mean only default system programs work (I can install, but can't run). Probably why unrevoked failed also.
I'm starting to think it is a hardware issue since the RUU should have fixed everything.
Any ideas???
Thanks.

As I mentioned, none of the buttons in fastboot seems to work, so I can't reboot, just a battery pull. Interestingly, when I have the pb31img there, it scans and tells me its an older version, but then the buttons work... reboots back into fastboot.
I'm thinking of trying the revert to 2.1 and go from there... is it safe to flash over the latest Froyo RUU with 2.15 radio with the following?
RUU_IncredibleC_Verizon_WWE_1.22.605.2_Radio_1.00.03.04.06_hboot_0.79_release_161494_NoDriver_0514.exe

Can't get the fastboot to recognize any pb31img.zip file now... it only worked when I first got the dead phone. Now that I have flashed with RUU, the fastboot won't recognize the pb31img file.
I'm going to have to try to manually flash or root using adb... trying to get all the files now.

Any luck Woz?
Yes, Doug gave me a bunch of roms to flash. Nothing worked. The last step we did before I took a break was to get into recovery using adb. Then I wiped cache and data. That didn't seem to work. Flashed another rom using recovery. Nada.
I put the phone down for a few hours. Then I decided to crack it open to see if it was a refurb (cheap label makes me suspicious). Nothing unusual inside, I put it back together and powered on... the thing booted normally... everything worked.
Doug suspects it was the data/cache wipe, I don't know. I think it was the bug that got let out when I cracked it open.

What rom did you flash thru cwm2.x?
Edit; I think I missed that, you where just booting into cwm via 3 finger and it didn't boot into cwm?

Ok here are some vids, the first one is how to root without a pc and he also made how to use odin. Check those out and come back here if you have any questions. Your phone is recoverable, it just may take a bit of work.

I don't wanna sound like a noob here, I know how to use CWR, but in reference to fastboot, thats not the fastboot that makes the phone boot faster. But fastboot used in adb for back ups right?? HELP!!
I tried to flash the overclocked kernel and now Im stuck in a bootloop and can't load recovery or be recognized in fastboot usb. It seems like I may have bricked my phone any suggestions. PLEASE HELP
update - I fixed it lol almost thought my dinc 2 was a brick
I may be in the same situation and would like to know how you solved your problem.
I rooted successfully and was running the Gingersense rom with the stock kernel. I wanted to OC a kernel so I downloaded one that I think was intended to run with MIUI. I made a backup so I figured if the kernel didn't work I could always go back.
After installing the new kernel I went into a boot loop. I pulled the battery, got into recovery and tried to restore a backup, but now I freeze on the HTC screen. I've tried three different backups and none of them work -- all freeze on the HTC screen.
I am becoming desperate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried wiping everything (including /system under "mounts and storage") before restoring the backup? Or tried flashing a different rom? Probably happened because the kernels for AOSP roms and sense roms aren't interchangeable. I would think that restoring a backup would rewrite the boot partition though, which should fix it..
I wiped everything (did data wipe/factory resets as well as wiping everything individually, several times) and could never get any of my backups to work.
I finally copied CM7.1 beta onto the SD card and flashed that (after first having to scrounge to find a card reader and computer that would read an SDHC card) and that worked.
I tried restoring one of my previous backups over CM7.1 (with and without wiping) and went back to freezing on the HTC screen again on each one of them. Don't understand that, since everything was working fine when those backups were made.
Anyway, now I'm using CM7.1 and have a working phone again.
Thanks for your work on this. Much appreciated for helping to realize my dream of a fully-rooted Inc2.
/bow
Ihave the same issues with backup not restoring and getting the white screen. Might need a new SD card.
