Ok, I know people are going to say to search. I did for hours....
I used the utility at htc-unlockers to try and free up my radio for us sim card use.
Something went wrong and now I am stuck on the red green blue screen and it says serial at the bottom and usb if im connected to usb.
I saw some other threads mentioning this but I have no idea what to do.
Some of the terms didnt make sense to me.
Can someone please give me a step by step what to do?
ok so it looks like everyone is saying i need to 'flash' a 'rom'
how do i do that, and which rom would you advise for a us cellular touch pro 2 needing to work on att and t mobile.
links would be great
I tried each of these except the verizon
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578659
and i got an error 290, couldnt be used on my device
Those are Radio ROMs. You need CDMA roms. Basically there are a couple steps you need to perform first.
I would suggest reading the following thread:
http://www.mobileunderground.info/showthread.php?t=3407&page=1
I did buy the thing from htc-unlock and i think I did it wrong because now I have that boot screen issue.
its a us cellular touch pro 2 win 6.5
can someone link me to the rom I need to get it back running?
ok i fixed it. i can post a walkthrough for idiots.
It would involve links to other sites, so i need an ok from a mod or whatever because i know how pissy these forums can be.
Ok so this will be my 7th android phone I am getting tomorrow.
I am getting it for sprints coverage increase over t-mobile.
Also for 4G
I am hoping to run cyanogen rom since thats what I had on my nexus and on my
MytouchSlide
Ok here are my q's
I keep seeing different ways to root. what is the advantage of one way over another? is there a large risk of bricking with the one click method? losing root?
i have heard something about a /s root? wtf does this mean. I have never heard of anything like this and I rooted all my phones myself up until this point.... Ive even rooted most of my friends phones.
4G I keep hearing people saying they lose 4G. How is this possible is their a way to NOT lose 4g? has anyone successfully flashed a rom without losing 4G?
I mean I would rather not root my phone than lose 4g but at the same time I really want a rooted phone.
since Cyanogen mod is pretty much useless to me what is another good rom?
how can I get to it without bricking or losing 4g?
So if someone could give me the rundown i would greatly appreciate it.
I am excited for the Evo but am hesitant based on what I have read...
ok. whatever u do, DONT try rooting using Unrevoked, one-click, 1.47 method. none of dat crap.
This is ur answer for rooting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
no automatic shz(maybe just some parts)
it works for any windows computer. just make sure u have adb set up on ur comp and ur good to go.
read the instructions and disclaimers.
make sure u have ur hboot drivers updated(theyre in the post but just go along)
cyanogenmod of course does not have 4G at this moment cuz they build their rom from ground up.
a good rom to use for like 4G and wifi tether and shz would be "Fresh"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743079
of course theres alot more roms out there for evo...u can take a look at mostly all of them here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Supersonic/ROMs
themes however are pretty hard to find. so i wont go there.
hboot is like the bootloader security program. if u notice, when u go to ur bootloader(holding power and volume down at the sametime) you'll see it says, Hboot 2.02 S-ON. my definition of that is,S=security-On. so obviously u wanna turn it off so u can get root, and that link i posted turns it off during the process. dats all there really is too it

Lol now you know as well as I do people don't actually read other threads. just the ones they post themselves lol.
So my questions are
I read there is a way to back up your 4g so if you ever **** yourself out of 4g you can restore.
Is this true?
I have heard alot of issues about a new camera... since mine will be purchased in 13 hours is their anything I have to worry about in regards to screwing the camera all up?
Also I had read not to use any other recovery other than the one that root tutorial includes.
is that true?
you had told me
"make sure u have ur hboot drivers updated(theyre in the post but just go along)"
is that hboot202-s_off-V71.zip?
How do i update them?
you had also said "ok. whatever u do, DONT try rooting using Unrevoked"
yet the tutprial you linked to says to
adb push root/unrevoked-forever.zip /sdcard/
adb push root/mtd-eng.img /sdcard/
adb push pc36img/PC36IMG-ENG.zip /sdcard/PC36IMG.zip
adb push pc36img/PC36IMG-MR.zip /sdcard/PC36IMG-MR.zip
adb push root/flash_image /data/local/
adb push root/rageagainstthecage /data/local/tmp
Is that an ok version of this unrevoked?
I miss my MTSlide lol. alas I am on a T-mobile employee plan (cause I am a T-mobile employee) and Am way past tired of being treated like someone who does NOT spend money on my line even though I pay 45 for 1 line. So I am switching To sprint tomorrow. I broke the screen on My mytouch Slide and they want me to pay a 130 dollar deductible on a phone with a 700 mhz processor ( only cause I OVER CLOCKED IT!)
sorry for so many questions. It just seems like I have found a lot of answers that contradict each other and I am not looking forward to a brick.

lol its all good. what people mean by dont use Unrevoked, its actually a .exe program dat will do it all for you, but since the current version they have is not update with the securities and stuff, it wont work and will infact crash your 4G.
backing up ur 4G, uhh im not so sure about that, my advise, root it first then make a nandroid backup lol.
the camera version isnt so big but it just has to do with watever rom u have and i like i mentioned before, Fresh should be a good one to use(in the rooting process u acually flash over a rom called"Stock_Rooted) but it wont f k it up. But, if u do endup messing up ur camera, its because of the rom doesnt work with ur phone so just flash one dat does work and you'll be good.
in the Like A Boss method, yes u do use unrevoked-forever, its just a zip. not a program so its usable, u get?
the "hboot202-s_off-V71.zip" file is actually ALL the files u will need in rooting.\
the actual hboot drivers are found here.(even come with instructions, and yes, its from unrevpked aswell but its not the bad file everyone is warning u to stay away. lol)
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
once ur rooted, u will have Amen_ras recovery, but if u dl Rom Manager on ur phone and click Flash CLockworks Recovery, you'll be fine. although i dont kno how to get back to Amen_ras after flashing ClockworksMod lol

Ok... I had read somewhere that whatever you do do NOT flash any other recovery. that if you flash clockwork mod it will **** something crucial up.
I have been reading for hours now and am very frustrated with the clusterfuck of contradicting info. I appreciate you taking your time in answering my questions.
I am very nervous But I guess I will see what happens. your 4g is still working i assume?
Someone needs to make a Evo Bible Sticky and keep it updated to quell the great misinformation.
Perhaps once I get it down me and you could make one. or you could
Having this would be a great help. I certainly Will try and do it once I have my bearings for this new phone.

u got it. and yes. im sure about the camera issue too. flashing another recovery instead of the one it came with for rooting will fk it up. besides that, ur good.
and no i dont have 4G working. due to the fact im using CM6.1RC2 and he does not support 4G YET, but i love his work and feels grreat and everything on my phone is really easy to customize. im not so big on 4G anyway due to because i live in Sac Town, CA, and 4G isnt dat big here so its like on and off, so it just kills my battery qucker AND im always connected to my wifi. lol
one other important thing i should add to u before u do it by accident.
when ur rooting it, you'll come up to the point when ur done and have booted into the rom. it says to update ur PRL/PROFILE. on the phone, to get system updates u have to go to Settings>System Updates>and theres like 4 options. Update PRL, Update Profile, Update HTC Software, Update Firmware. ONLY! update PRL and PROFILE. dont update HTC SOFTWARE or else you'll lose partial root. lol. keep dat in mind cuz once u boot ur phone, a pop up might appear saying 3.30.somehitng and its 6mbs. update Yes, or Cancel. CANCEL DAT TART! lol
ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING! lol sorry its just dat it happened to me with 2 hones and i wanna keept u aware of these thigns.
on the Like a Boss method when rooting, wen u get to step 10...
>>>>>>10) You should still be in the boot loader at this point. Scroll down to recovery and press the power button. When you see the red triangle.<<<<<<
when u click on recovery, if it reboots and is stuck on the white HTC splash Screen for more than 15 seconds, just do a battery pull and get back to the bootloader and hit Recovery again. dont worry, everything u did wasnt a complete waste. and once u et to the red triangle with phone screen, resume with the guide.
youll see what im talking about when u get there.
Alright man imma do it... Im nervous lol. I got the 4g now
Successfully rooted and running frost rom ( Very close to Vanilla android or aosp i guess its called) Running well. I was wondering if you know how to get hulu running?
and can you explain to me what kernels I can flash?
With the new evos, only stock htc kernels work 100% atm, from my experience. I have tried a few others but they all stop the camera from working and some cause done graphic tearing. Until the new source comes out, I would stick with htc #10 or #17.

Sorry about the double post. i first posted this in the Q&A.....
So i am a iphone user moved to android. im trying to root my phone and just cannot seem to get it running.
I have download simple root .1
I click setp1, it does its thing, goes to the skating guys and i do what it says.
Next i do step 2, same thing. skating guys, i do what it says.
now when i click step 3 the phone reboots and on my phone i get a phone with a read ! and triangle over it. nothing happens after that......
reboot the phone nothing seems changed.... what am i doing wrong?
anyone have a more complete "walk through"?
Also, i am a little confused. some people are saying to put "roms" onto the phone. are the roms like the OS? how do i wipe the phone and put a new rom on?
i am looking to get 2.3 onto my phone and get free wifi hotspot tethering.
i am running windows 7 ult. 64.
also, any links where i can get apps that only rooted phones can get?
any help would be great. sorry for the noob questions
Root using Unrevoked. It is the easiest method by far. Once you have root and s-off, you can worry about flashing custom roms. I'm not sure what you mean by "simple root .1" so you may want to post a link to what you tried so we know where you stand.
Also, it'd be easier to help if you provide your phone info as far as which hardware version, what software is on it now, which hboot, etc. If this is all new to you, then read some more and get a better understanding of this before you mess up your phone.
Can you boot your phone normally or is it stuck somewhere?
Simple root it outdated, you can check out the following thread for info on how to root.

Hey I'm new to the site so hope not to get shot down in flames for my ignorance (yes i did watch the sign up video).

I have downloaded the aahk-13012012 tool from this site and have read as much as i can on the subject, problem is I'm getting stuck on a few things i want to do some research before i take the plunge as i cant afford a new phone if i brick this one.
I have looked on this sight and i know im in the right place but its so vast Im getting the needle n haystack feeling. is there any one that can give me a breif explanation of a few of the terms such as "flashing rom or radio" I'm not dumn just new I realy want to root this baby but want to understand what im doing.
And mainl if it does go belly up is there a way to factory reset or recovery option. Thanks in advance.

First of all, let me say welcome to xda and hope you will not be disappointed by the people as there are many helpful folks around with some brainiacs (devs ) around.
Let me say that it can get really easy to very very complicated depending on what type of person you are lol.
Flashing custom roms is something that becomes a hobby (well at least for me) and you can choose one from various options, the one which suits YOU!
First off, you should think about giving some threads in general section a read, google around how to flash custom roms and get familiar with it as most of the methods require you a recovery setup known as ClockWorkMod (google it and read about it). Once you flash clockworkmod, you're pretty much secure from soft bricks and all those sort of problems because you can always access recovery and flash the rom again or clear cache or backup and restore which gets your phone working....
Once you're confident about ClockWorkMod and flashing roms. You should think about these steps and do them if you want to, as you mentioned "using the device to its full potential"
1. Use this tool to S-Off in order to unlock bootloader (in other words, you can flash custom roms freely).
2. Once you think you've done the steps properly, you should shutdown the device then once it's shut down properly. Hold volume down + power to access hboot and if on the top lines, it states s-off then it means you're ready for the next step.
3. This part requires you to flash clockworkmod by looking at this thread.
4. Once you're done with clockworkmod, you can access hboot again by that combination and use volume key to navigate to "recovery" then once you press power button on it, you'll be directed to Clockworkmod.
5. In clockworkmod, you can look for the downloaded zip from your sd card and flash it
Now custom roms, you have a variety to choose from. DO those steps and then you'll know more as you start moving in the direction.
Happy flashing

Hello everyone!
Im looking forward to being an active member over here as I have been on the S3 forums. This is my first HTC device and Im wondering a few things. My phone is due to be mailed my house tomorrow and im really excited.
A few questions...
1. I know that I need to read the S-off thread here... Is there any other required reading? this is my first HTC device. anything about HTC rooting and romming in general?
2. how does one "pull the battery" without being able to pull the battery? Is there a function that is similar in these non removable phones?
3. There was a way to backup our IMEI on the GS3. Is there a way with this device?
4. anything else I should know?
Ive dnoe some quick reading but didnt expect my phone in until monday so I hadnt jumped in too far. Ill do some more research for sure
1. You should take at look at the recovery threads. HTC uses fastboot so you'll need to take a quick look at how to install recovery via command prompt on your PC.
2. Holding the power button down, much like on a computer will force power off. Then you can reboot into recovery if necessary.
3. Not sure
4. This phone is awesome! Just moved over from the GS4.

I came from s3 as well, things with htc sound harder then they really are, but initially everything is done with adb.
I to asked about imei backup, but was told the stock ruu will fix it if lost. I'd still like a back up tho. :/
I don't think there's a way to back it up though.

After reading the s-off thread, check out this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417043
Some of it is outdated i.e. the unlock method, but it is crossed out, and you can download the "root files". I did not use it but if you grab it and unzip you will find all the drivers and executables you need after s-off to get started, whether using Mac Linux or PC, as well as the two alt. recoveries and superuser app.
You'll have to learn the key combos to get to recovery and fastboot. RUU is available but you need to s-off to use this one as it is. I would down load it from the development thread so that you have it handy if you need it. It is sort of like odin back to stock but without the GUI, all terminal or command line, but the commands are easy to find and we are here to help each other. Once rooted with a custom recovery, it is real similar to what you are used to.
